THE CARPENTERS - Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Okay so, I have heard "The Carpenters" before. But I most certainly have NOT heard this song before. And it was a LOT longer than I expected. And very interesting. The lyrics clearly are applicable to the present too.
Also I like how they used footage from E.T The extraterrestial.
A very soothing song soundwise. I liked it.
Thank you to my Patrons who requested this one!

Karen.A perfect standalone voice to grab you and make you sit down and listen.
ABBAMAN.Karen and Richard we're brother and sister Duo who sold over a hundred million albums in the 70s this is a cover of the Canadian group klateau. Quite the departure from their middle of the road sound. The singer only sharted at number 32 in 1977. The song came from their album passage. It is a tremendous song in Richard did an amazing job with the production an arrangement now that it's been 40 years since Karen's passing I miss her every day she had a voice like no other an angel among Us then I can just see her singing today beyond our world God gave her a tremendous gift and she gave it to all of us to enjoy😊
Kinda prog-pop with Karen's voice.First heard this in the Carpenter's GH collection "1974-1978",i bought from London's HMV in the late '80s on cassete.Klateau's version i also find ok, kinda more phychedelic.
I bought this record when it was released and I absolutely loved that song. I had no idea who Klaatu was at the time but their version is great too. Karen was an American musical legend and a icon to me. Her brother Richard was her producer, keyboardist and co-singer. They scored huge AM radio hits and made survivor Richard quite wealthy. The DJ voice was of their guitarist Tony Peluso.
Thank you for reacting to this Carpenters masterpiece. When this first came out, we could not believe it. This song is WAY different than their other pop songs.
👽🛰️☝️Thank You for reacting to this (for me) Unforgettable song. Karen and her brother are musical Legends. And I have never watched E.T😂❤
As an au-pair girl in England in 1974, I listened to the Carpenters every day when I cleaned the house. Loved Caren's voice.
This song was released on September 9, 1977. I will always love her voice.
This was put on laser disc and sent into space. It's well beyond our solar system now. I'm not kidding.
You're bang on, GivenToe... The Carpenters released this in 1977, the same year as Star Wars. As ET wasn't released until the early 80s, I'm guessing this video is some kind of mash up. Either way, it's a totally bonkers song, and a strange choice of track for the Carpenters, who weren't usually so "out there". Love your reaction to this, GT. Thanks for sharing and good to see you back, my friend. Always good to see your name pop up in my notifications, but never thought I'd see this song attached. 👽🛸🎶
I think it’s fascinating how Richard took Klaatu’s version and made it orchestral, even gave it a USC marching band vibe. Richard really put it all together and made something forever memorable.
At that time in 1977, they hadn't had a Hit in 2 years. Richard was desperate to try anything new or different. He was constantly experimenting with their material & this was his latest creation. It was never a personal favorite of mine, but was amazing & unique. Karen was flawless as usual.
@@bruschmidt9943 That voice was always amazing.
❤️❤️
Karen Carpenter had a very unique and beautiful voice and it was a sad day when she passed😢 Loved their music and as always❤ your reaction💕
They're great - Richard an awesome musician and Karen's unique voice - and btw. she was an amazing drummer too. Love them and their music especially "Solitaire". Thanks for this. 🎶
During the time this song was released (late 1977), there was a huge UFO craze here in the United States back in the 70's as well as the Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind films.
Good evening Mylord
The carpenters...I haven't heard them for a long time.
If you telling me the singer has been dead that long that tells me how old I am...because I know that song😅😅😅
The singer has a really beautiful voice. Very dreamy. I like it somewhat dreamy...like beaming away. Whoever requested that...thank you....that was really nice I like❤
Karen was taken too soon! She struggled with her body image and suffered bulimia and anorexia....Finally taking it's toll.
Her voice is one of the most bueatiful ever heard and she could play the drums as well!
Together with her equally talented brother they produced the most wonderful catalogue!
What a great request! Thankyou!! Ciao bello!
This song by links all time and space and religion YES is the answer ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi David! I keep laughing at your expression 😆 I have so much fun with you. And I also like seeing your expression when you react to Tommy, I see admiration and pride in your friend ☺️😊 This singer had a wonderful voice, it's a shame she's no longer with us.💯😔
Thank you 🙏🏻😁❤️
Hi David
Amazing voice absolutely adore her unique voice style ❤
"Oh, it's the 70s!" lol
Oh my god ,thank you, this is my no 1 song ever ,only Abba the day before you came, comes near it, her voice is on parr with Abba girls, in fact, Abba went on the carpenter s tv show, brilliant reaction as always, you made my day David 🤗🤗x
So happy to hear it! 😍
.
🤘 🇸🇪. GIVENTOE 🇸🇪 🤘
🎉🎉
it's absolutely up there for one of my funeral songs! 💀😅 Sorry *edit because it means so much to me! First time I heard it I was about 9 and was transported to another existence 🤗💞
This song deserves a little explanation. In March 1953 an organization known as the "International Flying Saucer Bureau" sent a bulletin to all its members urging them to participate in an experiment termed "World Contact Day" whereby, at a predetermined date and time, they would attempt to collectively send out a telepathic message to visitors from outer space. The message began with the words..."Calling occupants of interplanetary craft!" The song was written by John Woloschuk and Terry Draper of the Canadian rock band Klaatu, originally released in 1976 on their first album. Most of the words come from the bulletin. I was 20 days short of 10 and my younger brother and I spent the whole day in 53 trying to communicate with occupants of a interplanetary craft.
PS The DJ was Tony Peluso who stared working with Carpenters on "Goodbye To Love" He played the fuzzy guitar on it. "Goodbye to Love" was the first Carpenters hit written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis with Peluso playing the fuzzy guitar and Karen singing like an angel (of course). It was the first power ballad.
Interesting! Thank you for the comment!
In the words of Monte Python, "and now for something COMPLETELY different." As soon as this hits betelgeuse, they're on their way.....
😂😂😂
The "E. T." excerpts were not part of the original music video. LOL It's okay; the song was presented in its entirety. The Carpenters is my second favorite group behind ABBA. Thanks to the Patron who requested this song, and thank you for reacting to it, David.
Thank you great Scott!
When will you react to Agnetha Faltskog A+
"Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" is a song by Canadian rock band Klaatu, originally released in 1976 on their first album. Sorry Carpenters …….. Klaatu is my fav version.
This is a song from my youth! 😄 Thank you so much for reacting to it.
Please, could you also check out a young man named Elliot James Reay? With his smooth voice he brings back the "old" songs.
In Dreams (Roy Orbison) is a beautiful cover. 😉
That would be great
1978 after
I think this coincided with 'Close encounters'?
When will you react to A+ by Agnetha
Not sure to be honest, tight schedule 😅😅😅
The Carpenters made dozens of songs that are much better. Hope you will review one of their great hits in the future. Karen Carpenter is one of a handful heavenly female voices of the seventies.
This was the last big hit the carpenters had in the UK. Video spoilt by an idiot putting clips of ET into it. The track was recorded in 1977.
Wouldn't this be a cool song to listen to with friends at Burning Man?
I would drive to the playa, but I don't I have no desire to cough up $1,500 to spend a week breathing dust. I can get some at the store down the street for a lot less🤑🤑
Maybe something heavier than pot. Happy 4/20+
😇Karen TOO SOON😭
I do not like American music in general. Carpenters are an exception. Karen's voice is probably the best and most unusual voice I have ever heard. This is one of my favorite Carpenters' songs.
Nice song but for my taste is too long, although is cozy and beautiful. Thank you bro!
I agree about being too long! 🙏🏻
You should have paused the song five or ten more times.
Why?
