Feel no pain is stupid. It would make more sense if it gave 5++ against attacks UNDER S5. Not feeling pain makes sense for ignoring a stab in your side from a guy with a sword, something that would have incapacitated a normal guy, but the fanatic doesn't feel the pain. But a giant reducing you to ketchup isn't something you can just shrug off.
It made sense when it was Blessing of the Lady because actual magic is interceding to prevent an unchivalrous (Much stronger than you) attack.

I agree. I miss the days of flagellants having the table where if they sacrifice models they get increasingly funny combat buffs. I know people like reliability (see discussion of steam tank rules change) but I loved the flavor of rolling a 3 on the flagellant martyr roll and getting rerolls to hit and wound alongside frenzy. They should go out in a blaze of glory!

They were actually called tuetugen guard and they were amazing miniatures
Helstrums and Helblasters are interesting timeline-wise I assume this means they specified their invention to be before Emperor Magnus' official recognition Imperial School of Engineering after 2304.
Also I'm pretty sure they will just re-release the pewter High Priest of Ulric on Barded Warhorse miniature
Best intro and outro music out there for a fantasy wargaming channel! Suits the name of the channel and fantasy as a genre, instead of the techno bullshit most channels seem to have.

the only wolf priest model on horse i can think of his the al ulric model from way back. If you want some reccomendations for characters look at last sword miniatures, magori miniatures and blackchapel miniatures. Good selection of engineers, wizards, warrior priests and captains! Edit: magori also has models for the teutonic knights on foot!
no there is a wolf priest model on horse that is not the al ulric model my understanding is that he was only a on foot model
What about using a converted chaos marauder as a priest if Ulrich.
For two handed cavalry there’s the knights of the white wolf. I still have some models in my collection…
Is anybody else a bit salty about no more steel faith and gunpowder or is it just me? Artillery is heavily nerfed, the battle prayers seem to be a bit meh, as do warrior priests and arch lectors in general and full plate armour isn´t exclusiv for Empire anymore ( along with Dwarfs and Chaos in 8th to be fair). The weapons choices for state troopers along with the new weapon rules seem to "limit" you to bring spears, which, I guess nearly all factions will have access to...and the regiment unit / detachment unit rule is available to every faction....
My problem with WAP was that all factions were a bit to similar (weapon and equipment choices, unit buffing characters... every faction had access to everything, no signature trait/quirk) and I´m afraid to see that in The Old World...
Sorry if I sound a bit cranky, maybe somebody can put me right here?!? so far the Empire, which never was a top tier faction, seems mediocre doesn´t it?!?
I mean dude there’s litteraly no data yet to suggest anything yet. there isnt to be any reason to believe empire will be a mediocre faction.
Hi! Happy to chime in ;) What people forget to mention when going through those books are a lists of allies. Imperial one is huge and there You can find things to replace those in your army rooster You find lacking. I for one will be fielding dwarf artillery park : Cannon and Organ Gun with a dwarf engineer, because it is better then Imperial ones. No other faction has such a wide acces to Detachment special Rule. You can go halberd still but You have to employ very wide formations 8+. Turkey wagoon is great to kill the magic in your infantry line and support them with occasional charge. Keep your mages on a pegasi and harass enemy from flanks and back with your spells. I am only salty about pistoliers and that the Greatswords are not heavy infantry ( i still believe that it is honest printing mistake LOL).
Disappointing to hear about the Helstorm, I just finished painting mine up. Still going to use it though, I'll just blame the machinations of Tzeentch when it inevitably misses
I have 2 of the mounted warrior priests of ulric and 2 on foot. all metal models. Love them.
The witch hunter is good, but one huge nurf is the dont have the rule "heroic killing blow" so back in the day you could kill a greater deamon flat out if you some how got with in 12 inches

They will probably re-release the Warior Priests of Ulric set (on barded warhorse and on foot), as well as the Knights of the White Wolf and the Grand Master pewter miniatures at some point honestly. You still have to kit-bash GW Empire Knights with the plastic kit
Empire was definitely somebody's favorite faction. Keeping their monstrous cavalry while warriors of chaos lost theirs, the steam tank going up to toughness 7, and the Hellblaster generating the same number of shots it did in 8th while TOW is sitting at 6th ed unit sizes are all big buffs compared to the downsizing most other armies got.
Yeah, mutant chicken riders look strange in the TOW timeline. It has something to do with the fact TOW has no daemons apart daemon prince
On the other hand, WoC knights are the monsters in their own right.
I’m sure chaos will get those models back in their arcane journal.

Canonically monster chickens don’t have much to do with how strong the winds of chaos are. They’ve lived in the old world for basically ever.
I am a bit disappointed that witch hunters cant be on demi Griffins, imagen the cool image of a witch hunter going full speed blasting 2 Pistols into combat followed by some Knights lances smashing into a block.... Like that would been cool......
I had a lot of success with my empire.
No knights, no cannon, no mortars, no hand gunners, no steam tank.
What's in the list??!!!
Lots of state troop infantry, detachments, independent free company units, lots of pistoliers, huntsmen, crossbows, volley gun
Hey guys just had a quick question about the veteran special rule. It says that cannons can take for an additional 10 points. Does one cannon with the special rule count towards your one unit of veteran per 1000 points?
No, as they are not State troopers ;)

Pretty great review folks. Hit on all the key points and glad to see that Empire is still capable of lots but their heart is still the state troops.
I do think Flagellants are pretty darn good. Any sort of shooting is going to tear them apart but you can say the same of any naked unbreakable units. The inbuilt ward save equivalent seems like a step to far to me, especially since it gets better against stronger attacks. Like I would think something like that for Slayers, but I still love the kit regardless so meh! That said, if someone is bringing multiple big blocks of them in any army that isn't themed around Sigmar, I'm going to start calling shenanigans. I didn't catch if they were special though so issue might deal with itself.
Demigriffs seem a bit much to me but not totally busted. Don't get me wrong, I do believe they should be good. But given that some other factions completely lost their monstrous cav, and they're going to be 2+ more or less all the time, they seam very strong. I think a lone character charging them or getting charged by a unit of 3 can deal with them, but they have to challenge. Amusingly, a Bret on a Pegasus with the challenge glove is a perfect answer to them, at least for the short term. dedicated AP Shooting will still kill them. Handguns/Crossbows will do it. Normal bows are going to do nothing though. Canons or bolt throwers too so there are answers to them. I wouldn't immediately go to Stone throwers or equivalents against them. To easy to miss. Doom diver will laugh though.
Oh, something I'm surprised never came up, maybe because it's been assumed with how step up works now:

Spearmen are going to be everywhere and for good reason too. I can't wait to see the blocks of hedgehogs just daring any dumb fool to fight them.
To me it feels like the Empire list needs to be strong as it seems to lack the cool flavour that pretty much all the other new lists got and the detachment system doesn't make them unique anymore. I love the Empire, well the 6th and 4th edition versions of it, but this new list feels a bit dull. I'll still play it, nothing wrong with it, just a bit dull.
This vid makes me want to bring my white wolf knights and teutogen guard models back out of the closet
I'm excited to finally get a chance to buy them, if they re-release them. I hope they'd do both the pewter and the plastic upgrade spruce tho.

What are the thoughts about knights with great weapons? I feel like with still great armor it’s a good way to collect wounds.
What strength is the mortor and special rules?
Strength 2 except under the center hole is 6.
Runefang scares Toughness 10 Dwarf.
Boo, empire using the weapons dwarfs gave them against them.
Interestingly runefangs always used to have the rule of no armour saves allowed which was canonical as they were made by alric the mad and his master rune is for no armour saves in the dwarf army book.
On the empire general sculpt the runefang always had the master dune of alric the mad carved into it as well (square spiral)
Did we lose Luminark and Celestial Hurricanum, I guess at this point in the timeline they weren't made yet.

Bet you a dollar GW will fix pistoliers when the book drops. They will either lose the impetuous or skirmisher rule
I don't understand how impetuous isn't a leadership check rather than a 50/50 d6 roll.
@@r.j.macready I like it being its own thing vs a ld check, because it would get automatically watered down or stupidly buffed on certain races. they could have done impetuous 4, impetuous 5, etc.
Without Supporting Attacks, I can't see any reason to use Halberds or Swords over Spears for State Troops. Am I missing something? (Also: Praise Algorithmo!)

As Empire players we must accept that free company will never be good I guess. It's so funny that they're more expensive than base state troops now. Makes no sense at all.

Why on earth are a Demigryphs attacks AP -2 !!! That’s more armour penetration than a dwarven handgun!
If I’m not mistaken they had effectively even more AP in 8th and it was fine.

@@lukefreeman4281 not OP, they were good, so limited in many balancing Systems but they couldn't do much against a lot of threats or the Big Deep Blocks. I never had problems dealing with them and I played a pure Goblins, considered not good by most. I think their greatest strength came in their ability to deal with elite infantry, especially heavy.
Hmmmm list with a Priest of Sigmar AND a mage with necromancy magic is cool? Feels like GW tried to make Empire a strong and ignore lore
How does this ignore lore? A necromancer would just be a hedgemage. Morr is a God of Death men in the empire worshiped/revered up till the endtimes
The lore of Necromancy in Old World is as much Shyish as it is the lore of Vampires. It makes sense to use Lore of Necromancy to approximate stuff that the Empire has access to, even if the sigmarites might be tetchy about it. The real eyebrow raiser is demonology.

That's a good point but it won't work on pistoliers still. What is gonna be ahead of your fast cavalry to do that? I guess you could have a unit of outriders to go in front of all your pistoliers but at that point just buy two units of outriders.
