I wanted to ask how you hedge against an examiner's subjective judgment when you have a nonservice-connected condition that affects METs like obesity. Won't they say obesity is causing the heart failure symptoms and not the 50% & 70% blockages, and the CTO in my RCA? How effective will my log of angina events and nitro be?
Great question. Some things you can do before you attend is to have all relevant medical records available from before and after service. Go to your appointment prepared to discuss the progression of your heart condition over time, even when your weight was relatively stable, if applicable. Having an expert medical opinion to support your claim for service connection of you heart condition is helpful. Symptom logs are a helpful tool. Noting angina attacks and nitro usage is important. And recording how your symptoms align with the known effect of you blockages is helpful, too. Do you have any service-connected conditions that contribute to obesity? This could be another thing to consider along your claims journey. We have a downloadable Heart Condition Symptom Log that includes the rating criteria for the cardiovascular system. You can access that at the following link: vadisabilitygroup.com/symptom-logs/ Hope this helps as you prepare for your exam.
