Disability benefits are the last thing I'm concerned about (as a disabled vet). Making cuts to Disabled Veterans is political suicide for elected officials. With that said, it's important to remind them that we are watching and paying attention to what they are doing.
Theoretically cuts could be made elsewhere within the VA that could benefit the vets. Cuts costs, streamline the process, outsource if it means lower costs. Which anyone who has had a C&P exam with one of the many contractors, knows the benefits
It’s not political suicide. All you needed to do was read Project 2025 and understand Republicans relationship with the Heritage Foundation. Republicans won all three branches of government. We voted for this. Personally I would be disappointed if campaign promises were not adhered to.
It is only political suicide IF it is an unpopular decision. The overall climate has changed and the general public isn't exactly happy when they keep hearing stories about some veteran who worked in supply and never deployed getting 100% VA compensation for life. Once the narrative is changed, it will be a popular decision to cut benefits.
@@AMZ19252As a 20-year combat vet with many injuries, I prefer treatment at the VA for most things. The comfort of being seen with my peers gives me a sense of comfort and pride I never get in the private sector. If you aren't a combat vet, you wouldn't understand.
Agreed, but they still need Congress to enact many of their desired changes. With the pick of Thune as Senate Majority Leader, they're already pushing back against Trump. That's a good sign. Congress still wants to maintain its power. So they will likely push back against Trump if they think something could cost them their positions

The top 1% in this country pay over 40% of all federal taxes. While 40% of Americans pay no federal taxes. You really should get your news from some other places than CNN.
No, we can't because that would make all the of Veterans that voted for him look stupid. Just like all the Federal employees that voted for him look stupid. Funny thing is the Federal government is the largest employer of Veterans. But of well we gotta "own the libs" somehow.
Thank you for your good, sensible, level-headed advice. It’s a great relief and very much needed amidst all the worrisome noise that’s going on about this topic lately. I think it also helps to remember that veterans and the VA have always received broad bipartisan support, and congressional support of both veterans and current military service members tends to go hand in hand, since national defense has always been, and will continue to be, so vital to all Americans.
The VA has not received bipartisan support. Republicans actively vote against the interests of veterans. You should check out their voting record when you get a chance instead of just listening to their BS propaganda machines.
I didn’t agree with everything Harris said, but damn it, I had enough sense to not vote against my own interests. Spot on analysis. Most if not all substantive VBA (benefit) modifications require congressional action. With all 435 congressional and 32 senatorial seats up for election/reelection in less than two years, I would not expect sweeping changes to benefits. However, I would expect changes to delivery of health care via VHA. And all for the better like expanding the community care program and partnering with local medical groups and hospitals. I'm a veteran and 100% SC P&T. The VA is incredibly bloated and abused by many veterans. I did 26 years with four combat deployments. I watch YT videos where a two year army veteran with no deployments is coaching new recruits on how to get max VA benefits. That has to stop as well as the for-profit centers that get paid for getting veterans disability compensation. The VA is also overly staffed (except for healthcare) many of which work from home. While I don't see the new administration making drastic changes to the VA I do see some long overdue budget cuts. Lots of low hanging fruit to prune.
Really! I'm a veteran 100% P & T with SMC S. Service in the military, is service! Whether you are a grunt, or piloting drones from Nevada. When you rent a car, and damage it, you are expected to compensate the rental company. Veteran disability compensation is a earned benefit, not a handout! Besides, the VA does all it can to delay, deny, and hope veterans die before their claims are adjudicated.
I’m also a veteran. Only 4 years Marine infantry and deployed twice. I agree the system is abused but you need to remember what got the VA to the point where it is. Those people aren’t even a dent in the wasted money for the governments budget.
Don’t complain about other Vets, that’s how they divide us. Don’t fall for their tactics! Because if we fight among ourselves then they will surely win and take away benefits that will affect all of us.
