She grew up listening to that kind of music, singing along to her dads old records which just happened to be all the greats of that genre. So she automatically trained herself to sing In that way. Tony Bennett is a big fan of hers - I don't think a singer could get higher accolades! They did a few tunes together and of course they're pretty spectacular. I think you'll like Rehab - sad thing is, it's a true story.
You should give ‘Me and Mr Jones’ a listen. It has Amy’s beautiful soulful voice with a very doo wop like backing...in fact the whole Back To Black album is outstanding.

I'm a huge Amy fan. But I only listen to songs from her early album "Frank", and her covers (like Valerie). Some of my favourites are "What is it about men", "Stronger than Me", and "I heard love is blind". Frank was a happy/cheeky/sassy album, and Amy was happy and healthy when writing, recording and performing those songs. After the first album, it was all downhill because she's started dating Blake. She thought they were soulmates, and had his name tattooed on her chest. He got her into heroin, dumped her for his ex, went to jail for assault. Amy channeled all this pain into her next cd: Back to Black. The songs laid bare her depression, loneliness, heartache and substance issues. Back to Black was popular in the US. Amy's managers forced her to perform her big hits like Rehab and Back to Black overseas. Amy didn't want to sing them for the crowds, but she's too sad (or substance affected) to perform. When performing these later songs, you can clearly see her sorrow while performing, or her tweaking/fidgeting.
