Your video inspired us to visit Madeira this month. Just back home after one week and we did all the 5 walks! We were so focused on the suggested walks, we skipped Funchal. Thank you so much!
One of the best videos I've ever seen from my beautiful Madeira Island. Video with fantastic images, very well explained, and showing many of the most stunning trails and hikes in our Pearl of the Atlantic! Thank you very much and congratulations for the excellent work! Wonderful!
I've seen this after I was on Madeira and I can only admit to Graca accordingly say thank you Trailwalkers for these beautiful impressions, explorattions and explanations. On Madeira is so much to see and to walk. I'm sure I'll come back to see more and to understand more.
My mum n dad were the traditional owners of maderia only to be sent to Australia for a new life were they could expand cos of the population now there both deceased worked hard for nothing n maderia are still breeding like flies
Planning on doing some of these hikes next year I found your video very informative and you captured some great views of maderia well done really looking forward to it.
Great video and some good pointers to cool hikes when I return next year. We will put Fanal on our list. my wife is a bit scared of heights but i might be able to persuade her to walk down that steep track to the village and return by cable car , if its not too open edged . Sao Laurenco looks awesome too. But your shoot on Pice Aeriro was amazing. Great job. I did it last year and its a huge challenge but so rewarding. . Your drone shots really showed me what I was walking through at the time. Also thanks for pointing out that Levada Nova might be too much (for my wife) . Ill do another one instead
Your video is great I like how you show maps and describe scenes. Your wife drinking coffee I suppose at that White House made me think they must have great coffee.
Thank you Lloyd! Yes, the coffee was one of the best we've ever had... but maybe it was because just reaching the white house in itself was such a relief :)

Thanks a lot for these videos!! I'm Looking forward to my first trip to Madeira in December! I am so excited!! I think this will not be the only trip to this wonderful island!!
@@markusrosehill the last segment of the two Christ's that exist, like two religions almost, combined with the music gave me a feeling of transcendence. Cheers to the narrow and hard way
those steps where you stop and look around at about 19:50 remind me of the steps that broke apart in lord of the rings when they had to jump across to the other side!
Madeira is truly wondrous, we are spending July and August there this year. Not sure I am up to those scary and steep hikes at my age but I did last month complete the GR223 Cami de Cavalls around Menorca, which if you haven't done, I would strongly recommend. Best time is now but no later than mid-May.
loved your video. just stumbled across your channel because i watch all things Portugal , and especially Madeira. Loved how your worked in " the narrow path " into your narration !! 😊 surely you are a Believer ? My name is Paul. this is my wife's login i'd. thanks again for the great video. i will watch the rest of your Portugal videos for sure !
Thank you Nelson! Yes, the Levada do Caldeirão Verde was my initial choice, but in the end I picked the other one for the main reason that it's a loop. It's much more fun than going the same route twice. And technically you get 2 levadas in one, them also being different. And the views are great + a very picturesque waterfall.
I had a local drive me to the cafe where the trail starts & then heads down a bit & then north towards Pico Ruivo. Once there & before climbing up to the peak itself there is (or was) something of a trail that took me west to Encumeada. It was quite a trek & took like they say about 6 hours. The trail to the ascent to Pico Ruivo is of moderate difficulty but once one heads west the trail to Encumeada, although not technically difficult it was (at least in 2002) not well marked & if the weather is not clear, a compass would be absolutely advisable. I ENDED at Encumeada rather than starting from there & shortly before getting there had a considerable amount of old & cracked steps down to negotiate. Being fatigued by this time I had to be very cautious in descending down to the highway at Encumeada. I then had to wait a couple hours for the bus to take me back to Porto Moniz, which was where I stayed during most of my 3 trips to Madeira. The natural swimming area there was a big reason for this. Fanal is also one of my favorite areas of the island but no buses will take you there as far as I remember. As for the Levadas I found one, relatively near Porto Moniz, that went into a tunnel that took more than 30 minutes to get through. Very slippery & a lantern or large flashlight is mandatory. Not for the faint of heart. I might mention that there is another very easy trail to Pico Ruivo heading west about 2-3 kilometers from a parking lot EAST of Pico Ruivo. It ends at a cafe below the trail up to the peak itself & once I approached the summit it was unfortunately too overcast below the peak to get any kind of a view. This happened another time when I had approached from the other trail from the south which ends where the western route to Encumeada begins. Its been 16 years since I was last in Madeira & I miss it very much but my ankles are no longer able to handle much of what they were able to deal with some 20 years ago but there is still much to see & do: natural swimming areas + a FADO bar for example!
Fantastic video!! Have been recently in Madeira and visited Fanal and Arieiro Peack and it was amazing to see your aerial/drone views from the same sites. You cause me a strong will to go back and do this hikings. The levadas are a bit to scary for me, but excellent to se your footage and the risk you face to get them done, very brave indeed!! Became your follower and looking foward to see your next adventure :-)
Thank you for showing the beauty of our island, if you ever come back to Madeira I strongly recommend 3 levadas: Caldeirão verde, Alecrim and 25 Fontes
Very emotional and gorgeous shots! We're probably going in mid-August (not the best time) mainly for landscape photography. Hopefully, we'll manage to get an interesting shot even if we are not that fit to do the most famous tracks but surely the coastal trail (Ponta de Sao Lourenco) seems doable and maybe some sections of the two walks to Pico Ariero e Pico Ruivo.
Beautiful island, loved to visit it again someday. Btw Madeira doesn't mean Forest it means Wood I guess someone got lost in translation and I bet I know why Madeira = Wood Madeiras = Woods Woods = Bosques (small forests) or Madeiras (several types or pieces of wood)

For transport to and from PR trails, does bus transport / routes cater well on Madeira? Or hiring a car, is better? Although it seems that one would also. Waste time finding best routes despite not being the shortest. Bus or car rent is best you think? Very nice informative footage!
