This man deserve, best tour guide in Maderia ,no doubt about this. So much info about Maderia. Thanks man, wishin you loads of work for you.....all year around.
You made a good point about the difficulty when renting a car if the trail is not a loop around. Are taxis readily available? I have heard mixed reviews about this.
Really good advices! I´m planning a trip to Madeira soon. I already made a txt document with your equipment suggestions (06:00). Greetings from lovely Coimbra. 🙂
I am liking these different videos with all these tips. Very informative, what else can I say? Well done Jeff. PS: you seem to make me hungry everytime I watch your vlogs... wonder why 2🤔
Hi there , love your videos and vibe, I am also from Sunward park, SA, moved to Ponta do Sol. What is the name of that restaurant where you had the Francesinha .
Hey Natalia! That’s awesome :)) that restaurant is in lugar de baixo in front of the Brazilian place. Churrascaria de lugar de baixo maybe? It’s the big one before the tunnel 🤣 hope that helps?
Overall rather safe if you are sensible. Tons of trails for every taste. Lots of info easy to find before you go on adventure. So please be careful if you decide to explore on your own or following a GPS. Do not wander off the path, unless you are 200% certain to be able to find your way back. The island might look tiny but it's high mountains, deep valleys and forests, also some criss-cross trails with no signs, crazy differences in height, temperature, and fog. It's very easy to get lost in certain parts. Not everywhere is full of tourists or locals to help you get back to civilization. It might be worth it to take that tour guide instead of going off on your own, depending on what it is. And do not ignore warnings.
I seen everything in Madeira levadas people with trainers and sandals , flip flops , high heels, men and women caring their babies in their backs ,pushchairs with babies , small children age 3 or 4 doing the levadas , dogs in a lead and people in bicycle in narrow footpath near from the edged and people more concerned taking selfies in the cliffs and small footpath edged . And next no under why accidents happen ? And despite living in Sintra vila I still see the same thing were also I think that certain people lost complete their minds.
I'm from Madeira. Some levadas... you can get away with flip-flops. At least the locals get away. But even the locals know that for this levada and that trail, you change those flip-flops for something that will not risk your life. Baby buggy's? Doable in some levadas, just get ready to carry that thing on some spots or even having to turn back.
Don’t run your hands along the wires, broken wires can go right through your fingers or hands. Don’t use poles the Levadas are often too narrow and I have seen poles go into missing parts of the path and the walker lose their balance and nearly go over the age. Be careful with backpacks it’s easy to turn hit the rock face with the backpack and get pushed over the edge. Be careful when turning round it’s easy to lose your balance due to nerves, tiredness etc and in particular this affects older people. The Levadas are fantastic but treat them with great caution people die every year. Ladies please take tissues and a zip bag to put used tissues in it’s nasty to leave your used tissues on the Levadas.
Hi I think we must make a tradition to take one or more trash what we find on every hike (and of course dont leave new trash) I made this when i was in Madeira. we must hold it clean
Thank you Peter :) no, not an issue só to speak. No need for pills or anything. I guess you could say they’re still here with the occasional fly, bee or spider ;) Hope to see you guys in one of our Jeeps! Cheers !!
Nice video.. just a suggestion like in the next video instead of saying madewwwra you can speak good normal English and still saying Madeira in normal local dialect, go by example. amazing videos and tips, keep doing that.
Hey Fabio! I can try, I was brought up in an English speaking society, so madewwwra might slip out every now and then, but I know it grinds a lot of locals when people pronounce Madeira wrong. Might just do a whole video on it eheh ;) muito obrigado my friend, have a nice weekend ✌️
It was a disaster, especially on the west coast, we lost a lot of very old heathers, sad year for us indeed. Sad decade really. Lets all be grateful, careful and sustainable 🙏

That's awesome 😉! Thank you Teo! 🙏
How do you recommend managing water on long hiking trails? Can you drink from levada or streams? Or carry filter? Or better bring all water with you?
I don’t recommend drinking from streams, definately not levadas. Take water with you for each hike. Enjoy!
Hello, which map app do you recommend for discover hiking and trails?
I prefer to use the official sources, visit Madeira website and the others I mentioned towards the end of the video. Cheers ✌️
I am liking these different videos with all these tips. Very informative, what else can I say?
Well done Jeff.
PS: you seem to make me hungry everytime I watch your vlogs... wonder why 2🤔
Ahah yes I must admit I think we’ve been eating too much lately 😂
Is there a specific type of hiking shoes that you would recommend for hiking in Madeira?
I would recommend full hiking boots that offer ankle support, good grip and waterproof 🤠
Awesome video! Like😄👍👍 and sub! New friend. Thanks for the tour my friend.
A tour ✨ of seixal Chao da ribeira would be wonderful 😀
I’ll put it on the list !! :))

Hi! Yes I think so too, if everybody does the same, it would be much easier
Hi, great videos. My wife and I are hoping to be in Portugal and Madeira in September and October 2022. . Are biting insects like mosquitoes an issue?
Thank you Peter :) no, not an issue só to speak. No need for pills or anything. I guess you could say they’re still here with the occasional fly, bee or spider ;)
Hope to see you guys in one of our Jeeps! Cheers !!
my favorite guide is Nunooooo

@@Hittheroadmadeira thanks video ta brutal
Very good, however that francesinha... Um prego no bolo do caco would have been a better result 🤤 keep up the good work
Ahah sometimes a francesinha is the only thing on our minds 😂
These are all common do's and dont's which are not specifically for Madeira only, which this video is supposed to be. Hmm..
Im sorry you didn’t get what you needed from this video? What exactly were you looking for?
Rule #1: Don't do what I did @ 0:51
lol exactly 😂 well spotted!!
🤣✌️
i think we learnt not to start fires in Madeiras forests in 2016
It was a disaster, especially on the west coast, we lost a lot of very old heathers, sad year for us indeed. Sad decade really. Lets all be grateful, careful and sustainable 🙏
