Yes. Because it isn't the government's job to fix it up and bail people out. I don't want my tax dollars going to that. The people there don't care. They are the ones who live there and accept it.

They say flint was paying 25 a hour in 1950 even in 2023 thats alot cant imagine how much it was in 1950 makes you wonder if the cities paying well now will end up like this
it’s almost like it ended up like this *because* they tried to pay everybody $25/hr in 1950 so all the small businesses who couldn’t afford to offer that wage failed, and all the big corporations who could afford to offer it got tired of paying it and moved
It actually looks nice and serene, with lush vegetation all around. Yes, many buildings have been abandoned, but so have the ones in Machu Picchu. Check out the Romani slums in Europe - this isn't even one hundredth as bad.
I have seen Flint in it's glory days. Many parts of Flint are still well kept neighborhoods. Like Mott Park, for example. The real blight and decline took hold when GM pulled out so many jobs and sent them to Mexico. So you end up with hundreds, even thousands, of people with no other skills other than working in the shop, or own businesses that depend on the workers. GM committed economic terrorism against Flint. Then, the government began to reward women to have children with no man in the home. Kids were not getting a solid education, or a proper upbringing. If you don't raise and parent your kids, the streets will gladly do it for you. Flint Community Schools was run by a bunch of crooks who did not invest in kids. Most people with a marketable skill left Flint and took their money with them. It breaks my heart to say it, but it's true.
I'd be so scared to live in the only decent house on a street full of dilapidated houses & empty lots....Sad this is happening in one of the richest countries in the world

Shut down regular production, for the Military during WW2 and instead built tanks and trucks and planes, and gave America affordable cars for decades. Once it was used up, it was forgotten and crapped on….
