I live on the East side of Flint. It’s pretty rough. Especially in my eyes since I didn’t grow up in Flint or live here til a few years ago. When I was a kid I thought going to Flint was going to the Genesee Valley Mall. LOL You actually passed my house on your 6th video of Flint (east side).
I do enjoy your videos but I had a few comments/corrections for you.
The Dort Financial Center (formerly Perani Arena and before that the IMA)….my daughter works there. They have hockey games, but many other things too. Concerts, MMA, boxing, gun and knife shows, RV shows, Comic-Con’s, basketball, etc. They also host graduations for local high schools without a big enough venue.
The Machine Shop on Dort Hwy isn’t a strip club. It’s a music venue. There are some pretty well known bands that play there.
There actually used to be MORE strip clubs on Dort Hwy but thankfully those places have mostly closed down. Now the big business is marijuana dispensaries. Honestly that’s way better than strip clubs.
The Rock on Dort Hwy used to be a church. I don’t think anything is there now though.
The Dort Mall is pretty weird but there are a couple of stores there and a restaurant too. There are some quirky items on display in the mall as well.
All in all Flint has some rough places but really isn’t the worst!! You just kinda know where not to go at night and/or when you are alone and you’re pretty good. LOL

When I was going to UM-F, I had a friend who lived in the Atherton Terrace area. I dropped her off at home a few times, and she always said, "Go back exactly as we came in, don't stop, don't look at anybody, just get out of here and I'll see you in class." This was back in the late 80's, and it was a scary place back then too. I think I white-knuckled it all the way home to Holly. As soon as I saw the buildings in the video, I knew exactly where that was. Not surprised it's a wasteland now.

I actually grew up in Burton and yeah I know this neighborhood well. Actually Dort highway has always been trashy but it wasn't as bad when I was a kid as it is in this video. Before Big lots moved across the street from Cortland center. It was located on Dort highway it was pretty nice. There was also when I was fairly Young serious surplus store was also in the dorma today the Dortmund well it's surprising if you can even get in the doors it's kind of a neat place to walk for a couple minutes cuz it is filled with a lot of antique signs and things of that sort. But I'm not even sure if there's one open store where you can buy anything.
Oh and the door event center which is actually changed its name a few times it was the IMA event center when I was a kid and then for the longest time it's been the Prani Center this is where I would go and see the Shriners circus in the winter.

But we decided to move to the Lapeer area idk I enjoy the country setting a lot more then where I grew up the metro Detroit area. It makes NO sense at all whatsoever how 2 once Beautiful city’s are now the armpits of the country. So much corruption in our political system. Decades and decades of this kind of corruption completely destroyed what was once the mecca of the United States of America. Great video as per usual. One thing I've always wondered is when you drive through some of these mostly empty neighborhoods where you have 4 or 5 boarded up or burnt out or abandoned houses for every one with a family living in them how many of the empty homes have squatters or temporarily homeless people staying in them? Most of the houses look pretty unstable or not fit for habitation, but there are some that aren't quite that bad. Makes me wonder if there is a back entrance or window that people use to access them? I also wonder how many of them are used to dump bodies lol.

That being said I’m not about to be rolling up on a house and going inside just because I think it’s empty. 😳 There have been several fires in vacant houses near where we live. The abandoned section eight housing project did not look that bad from the outside. I was surprised that there was glass in most of the windows. Your use of the "mean streets" hood music is a nice subtle polite way of letting people know the condition of the area without saying anything disrespectful. Parts of Flint look rough but overall, I think Detroit looks much worse than Flint. Growing up near the Red Zone in Detroit probably influenced me. You tell people the truth of how things are.

The Dort Financial Center used to be the IMA Auditorium and aside from being home to the Flint Generals Hockey Club, it did host many major concert events back in the 70s. It was used for Public Ice Skating, and more recently, multiple Beer & Wine tasting event and Auto and RV Shows. FYI - there was a Greta Van Fleet concert scheduled there a few months ago, but they cancelled it the day of the show! From the wording of the "apology" that GVF sent out, it was pretty clear their promoter hadn't done any investigation into whether the venue was suitable for such a large show.

I met a Michigander in Galveston that loved it THERE and had his youngest brother not passed we would probably STILL be there. Arriving in Flint I swore it looked like a hurricane or tornado had ripped apart the CITY, sadly. The people are JUST like Galveston, Texas resilient and a lot stronger than most do not even realize because of the corruption STILL on going today. The money given for the water Crisis is unaccounted for and so many more fund's and grant's received are as well. Our water at THEIR "OFFICIAL" declaration of the water poisoned will be 9 YEAR'S in April and it is still not fixed. People are dying FROM CANCER in numbers I can still not grasp as I knew almost everyone that has died yet only moved here in 2011 and met delivering water, City Council Meetings, Camp Grounds where we stayed and did meal's for everyone, did interviews with foreign countries journalist asking about our experience and what we felt, did camp fires at night and as a group decided what we were going to do the next day too keep exposing and rallying TOGETHER for safe WATER 💦, and some of us organized events too get water, shoes, and other essentials to any one that asked without judgement. Rallied non stop and some of us even went to jail for nothing but them being able to shut down their town hall meeting held in a "church" I luckily was only man handled due to accidentally saying a curse word that wasn't planned just was passionate in my statement and the FACTS and it slipped out with an immediate apology yet her "mayor" body guard enjoyed bruising my arms by pushing me out of the area I was just at. The Sloan Museum next to it is cool too. The strip club block on Dort is wild. So many businesses, clubs closed/abandoned, covered in overgrowth. Downtown Flint is absolutely coming up & it's awesome to explore. So many shops, fantastic restaurants & bars (Soggy Bottoms, Waygu Wednesday is the place to be). The Flint Farmers Market is great. you can't just blame one entity. Sure, GM closing shop was a huge reason for the downturn, the question is: if they were making so much money WHY did they leave? It couldn't be that the union was demanding too much, could it? Workers were living pretty large on their wages, but it was never enough. They decided to go someplace where labor was cheaper. Manufacturing businesses won't go there because of the union reputation. Then there's the local government. What have they done to attract business to the city? What happens to all of the grant money they get for certain projects? They got millions to tear down that apartment complex, yet it's still standing, they got millions to fix the water problem, yet it isn't fixed. Instead of finding someone to blame, how about looking for a solution. My point is not to trash the union, they were a great idea, and did a lot for the workers. but they got too big for their own good, just like any organization when it gets too big, it becomes corrupt, they quit looking out for the workers long ago.

Flint Michigan was the first city in the world to show teachers a week of appreciation. Do some research into teacher appreciation week you are there exploiting flint 22:46 for profit. @@kelliemishmish I’m a delivery driver in the area, kings lane is definitely a place I avoid when I can. Definitely feel a little uneasy when I go and I actually just did a delivery there last night. I’ve only lived here a couple years so it’s interesting to know what it was like before

@@Nik.No.K it was getting sketchy when we moved there, 1998-2000 lol but they had a security guard. We used to walk to the 7 11 at night no problems. I mean, there was bad stuff when i was a kid too, i was riding my bike and saw a guy get pulled out of his car at fenton and atherton and get beat up. It's like... things were crappy back then, but compared to now it was better. Not in a nostalgia way, just the businesses were there, it was a little cleaner. Not as much blight. Idk. You still paid attention to what was going on around you lol stranger danger!

To me, Flint is more DEPRESSING than the overall " Decline of Civilization " areas of Detroit.
I never lived in Flint, but have been a resident of Southeastern Michigan ( Detroit all of 50 yearsexcept 6 between. Wyoming,MI, Inkster and Mt.Clemens.) and saying Detroit. I am talking Grand River un the west, Kelly rd. in the east to 8 mile in the north all the way to the river. That is my Detroit.
Ask a person where they come from and they reply "Detroit"! Then you ask, " But where?" and they say Schoener and 11 mile. You tell them oh. You mean Warren! Then they realize you know
    exactly where the city is.
Folks like living in a made-up reality.
Am I a wealthy business guy retired?, or am I legally blind, living on disability struggling month to month?
Well be honest, you are the guy on disability.
Besides, my experiences make me beyond wealthy or rich.😉💯

Machine Shop is a rock n roll club on Dort Highway. I can hear the music from my house.
Several strip clubs nearby, if you like that kind of thing. I do.
Born and raised in Flint, l can honestly tell you, it's a good place to be FROM.
