The gun is a BB gun. Bb's are little steel balls about 4.3 mm in size. It is air powered. - Keyster is rear end or buttocks of a person. - I think Marvin was saying very chic but did not know how to pronounce chic. - He put aftershave lotion on his face. It is alcohol based and stings. -
It's so incredibly wholesome to write that in, took the edge of what would've been a mildly vulgar comedy that would've pushed the limits of what was acceptable fare for children for that time. Balances it out a bit. Thank you John Hughes, for your directorial choices.
The movie within the movie that Kevin is watching is called "Angels with Filthy Souls," and it doesn't actually exist. They filmed that for this movie. I only know this because I've tried finding that movie to watch it, too. There is, however, a real movie called "Angels with Dirty Faces," (1938) starring James Cagney.
My grandmother watched this with me when I was a kid. She always laughed at people falling over, she couldn't help it, that was the funniest thing to her. She absolutely died watching this film she was laughing so much all the way through
One of my all time favorite childhood movies. I used to have it on tape and would watch it all the time when I was a kid. Also as a little kid I used to call Kevin “Home Alone”, that was his name for me for the longest time 😆
They said in a behind the scenes video, when he had the spider on his face, that they recorded the scream after the scene was done. That he didn’t actually scream when they filmed the scene because they didn’t wanna scare the spider.
I’m ashamed it took me a year to find you. Your spirit is amazing, and I’m in love! You make every viewer smile with your personality, and it helps that you are so easy on the eyes.
7:03 "Oh-hoo. Marshmallows with ice cream? Okay. This was literally me when I first started to live alone." Yeah. 😄 Me, too. I think _most_ people go through a little period of self-indulgence like this.
The difference between watching Home Alone as a child and watching it as an adult is most prevalent when you're watching him set up the sled at the top of the stairs. As a kid, you're like "That looks so fun! I wanna try!!!" And then your parents have to stop you. As an adult, you see that and all you can feel is concern. (I don't actually mean this. It's not when it's MOST prevalent. But it's definitely up there)
When this was released, my oldest son was the same age as "Kevin" As a matter of fact, he could have been his twin. Years of hearing the antics from this movie are a great memories.
Just to add in a detail. The cop after knocking on the door several times reports on the radio that there was no one home, and the house was secure. Um officer...... when Kevin went back inside screaming, he did not lock the door!
Well, that was a brilliant reaction from Home Alone by Dasha. Her reaction and the movie had me in stitches. A perfect start to the Christmas festivities! So, well done to her! :) Just want to say, have a fabulous Christmas, guys. And to Dasha....keep them coming! :)
"Angels with Even Filthier Souls" is what Kevin was watching. It's a fake classic movie created for the film. "Keister" is a very old timey way of saying ass. Hope you and everyone else here has a very Merry Christmas.
I loved your reaction with the burglars and the traps. Reminds me how most people reacted to this when it was released in 1990. This was a very popular movie where it was hard to get a ticket to see it in theaters for months. My dad finally was able to get me and my brother to a Sunday night showing at that time. You have to react to Home Alone 2. The traps are more clever and more dangerous, but still funny.
Last night my uncle came home to find money on the floor leading up to the kids' bedroom. My cousins who are 4 and 5 planned to lure any burglar to their room so they could beat him up. I thought about Home Alone when i heard the story,
The best I've been able to deduce it that "Mom" is a fashion designer and "Dad" in an investor, thus the money and the mannequins. OH! Mannequin (1987.) A ridiculous 80's romantic comedy. Must reaction.
Loved your reaction Dasha and this is definitely a Christmas classic. It would be great if you could watch Home Alone 2 as well. I think it's just as good, if not even better than the original
1:55 Yeah. When I was little, my mom commented that her younger brother's bedroom was a black hole, whatever goes in doesn't come out. I took it literally and didn't go in for years. I noticed that my mom and her brother go in and out, so I started wondering if it was true and decided to chance it. Came out fine.
The polka guy from the airport is John Candy, one of the funniest actors that ever lived. He is in another movie with the kid from this movie. It's called Uncle Buck and it's a classic.
An old family friend of mine was the special effects supervisor for this movie, and he kept a lot of the props that he built for it. So I got to hold the bicycle handlebars that Kevin uses to zip line from his house to his tree house. He (Bill Purcell) passed away years ago, but he actually had a small part in the movie. He was the cop who chased Kevin across the frozen pond after accidentally stealing the toothbrush. He actually fell and shattered his knee on the ice, but couldn't leave to go to the hospital until they got the shot...which took hours.
Keister means backside/butt. It’s an older style term, not used that much anymore. 7:30 It’s a fake movie. They only shot this one scene, specifically to be used in this film. 11:24 He put aftershave on his face, if I remember correctly. And it does have a slight burn to it. Fun fact: The kid that played Kevin is in his 40s now. He’s still acting, most recently seen on the TV series American Horror Story.
27:37 That scream is GREAT. 😂 That guy was in another movie I liked. Can't remember the name. But he pretended to be a Boy Scout leader and take the kids up a mountain called Pikes Peak. I haven't seen that movie in years. He also played in another great movie that I can't remember the name to. He was the oldest of 3 brothers, and they were on the road, bringing home a classic car for their dad's request.
This movie is told from Kevin's perspective, so his family weren't necessarily that mean to him, or even said those things literally , but that's how Kevin interpreted them. Like when he went downstairs and the furnace showed signs of life. The mother was in Ferris Bueller,s day off. 11:16 he put on aftershave, which would sting if you had any cuts on your face after shaving
Important lesson is this movie. The kid can only live as long as he figures out how easy it is when you have money. After the ice cream runs out or the detergent is gone them you realize that you need to work to survive. Great lesson
The last part of the movie is basically Wile E Coyote vs. Roadrunner brought to real life, with Christmas as the background setting. It's an absolute classic that has stood the test of time. And the bandits slipped on Micro Machines, not Legos. They were tiny little cars that were very popular from the mid 80's to the mid 90's.
That was great. You should definitely check out Home Alone 2: Lost in New York as well, one of the few comedy sequels that's just as good, better in my opinion, as the first.
The primary McCallister family has seven members: two parents, three boys, and two girls. The house in which they live is huge for just the seven of them. However, there are eight members in Uncle Frank’s family. In that way, the house is the perfect size for having all fifteen of them stay overnight.
I remember watching that as a kid. I loved that house. I knew a rich kid who had a house like that. The kid had a Nintendo in his Chevy Suburban. Had duplicates of all the video games...blew my mind. So when I watch the film it reminds me of my rich friend long ago. haha I never felt bad for Kevin. Now as an adult it's a different film and I connect more with the adults and Kevin's plight. Gotta love John Hughes films! You gotta see Uncle Buck now!
Fun fact: Buzz in this movie actually went on to achieve a PhD in Marine Biology. He is in fact Dr. Devin Ratray now. He also tours the US as a professional Elvis impersonator.
There is a doctor who reviewed all the injuries of this movie on UA-cam. Its a good watch but the end result was needless to say long term painful and likely fatal for a good number of these... Definitely one of the all time great holiday movies.
@@pearlofthedarkage I guess any of them would do, but the one I was thinking of I cant find at the moment (I think it was the ER trauma guy). Funny though there are a good 5-7 of them.
The 'French' airport helpdesk clerk at 11:10 is played by American actress Hope Davis. She most notably played Tony Stark's dead mother Maria in Captain America: Civil War.
Hi Dasha!! I just would like to say that I absolutely LOVE every single one of your reactions. You’re so kind, smart, funny, and beautiful😊😊keep doing what you’re doing and never stop being who you are!❤️
Great movie. Fun fact the actor who plays Kevin big brother is also his girlfriend they put a wig on him because they didn't want to offend a girl actress . The sequel is also great and a christmas movie. You should watch Its a Wonderful Life the ultimate Christmas movie.
Kevin has a BB gun, which fires little metal balls instead of bullets. They aren't fatal (except to small animals) but they can cause injuries. "Keester" is an old time expression for a rear end. People say that when they want to be even less vulgar than saying "butt". The polka player his mom met is played by John Candy, who was a very famous comedic actor. Sadly, this was one of his last movies.
7:00- it's a BB gun (the ancestor to airsoft guns, they shot lead copper or brass pellets depending on how long ago; the gun in "A Christmas Story" [when you get around to reacting to it] being a very old ~1950's style.)
11:25- aftershave (at least at the time, now it's all been replaced for moisturizers;) was like 70% alcohol. It stung like crap anywhere you'd gotten knicked by the blade, but it also stopped the bleeding too with a tiny corner of tissue paper held on a few seconds. The stuff today not bad (but it used to help clot better too.) I should probably mention that I just shaved my beard I'd been growing since November for Christmas Eve too (should surprise the hell out of my mom because last time she saw me it was almost 3 inches, and the time before that I had 3 ft of hair. She does it right back at me and it's become sort of a family tradition)
19:30- John Candy RIP he was in so many movies in his short career, and nearly ALL of them would be worth reactions to. Spaceballs is a classic, Canadian Bacon was pretty good, but there are a few like Stripes that aged poorly but the casting was great (Bill Murray and Harold Ramis from Ghostbusters are the stars but he's got a decent part too.)
The director of this film John Hughes also directed Ferris Bueller. I'm sure you would enjoy many of his other films, including The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
@@williamreid6255 You're quite right. However it was a John Hughes production and he also wrote the film. I forgot that he deputised the directing to Columbus. It's been 30 years since I last saw it.

'Uncle Buck' was made by the same people who did this. It starred John Candy (Polka guy) and a slightly younger 'Kevin'. One of my favorite comedies. Thank you for your reaction.

I have never seen you giggle so much in a reaction as when the crooks were trying to get past Kevin's traps. That was hilarious and adorable.

It's impossible to NOT laugh during those trap scenes. I've watched this movie and the second movie every December and I STILL laugh every time.
