I dated a woman with a disabled child many years ago. You’d be surprised how often a car would park too close to the van for us to get her daughter out or how often a handicapped entrance would be blocked. It was one of the most infuriating things I’ve ever experienced but you have to keep your cool so as not to embarrass the child.
The best possible solution is to pick up the phone, call the cops and have them towed away at their expense
Yep. We have a child in a wheelchair and have to deal with people parking in the striped area and people parking in the handicap spots who do not have the handicap Parker. It’s usually lazy people running in “real fast.” 😒
The feeling of having to suppress valid anger is awful. I'm sorry you had to endure that. Just wanted to say I applaud your focus on remaining calm. It's just as crucial as it is hard, really.
My dad embarrassed the hell out of us kids as soon he was behind the wheel. It set a poor and disheartening example of conflict resolution and how to manage your emotions. He also projected his own issues onto his opponents:
Dad: _I have my children here with me, aren't you ashamed?_
Children: _Why yes we are, thanks for asking._

There are very handy magnetic bumper stickers for these sweet souls. Oh, yeah. It goes a long way toward cooling that anger off.
I am so furious at that 911 operator who hanged up thousands of calls, like, HOW MANY PEOPLE DIED BECAUSE “SHE JUST DIDN’T WANT TO TALK”??????
Right, I used to be in emergency services and the main reason I left was because of how awful the majority of the people in that field are. I also had to call 911 one time when I woke up one morning and my boyfriend had not come home from work. I asked them to drive along his path and make sure he hadn't been in an accident. The operator completely blew me off and basically said he probably just left me. I had to call a friend at 6am to drive me around and he had been in an accident. He was ok but I was so sick about it.
I found videos in yt about an operator who hang up because a distraught girl whose friend was shot and dying said "He´s still f*cking breath, what should I do?" to the operator after the operator asked for the fourth time if the victim was still breathing. The operator then went "I´m not going to be cussed, you can deal with this yourself" and hang up on her. Long short story, the friend dies, the operator was fired and somehow got accepted into another emergency service years later. When one of the higher ups in his new job found out, he immediately fired him again and he went ballistic. I think he sued his new work place for the emotional stress from the media coverage. -_-
Another operator also hang up on a guy whose mother was dying because she `didn´t like his attitude´. Fact is, he was polite and not even yelling. Just raising his voice so it can be heard between his sobs! He only curse once after the operator reprimanded him for his attitude, and she hung up on him. The worst thing? The shitty operator wasn´t even fired 😡🤬🤬
These stories make me sick. These are literally the first people you call in an emergency! Go work somewhere else if you're not invested jesus christ
Same with Samaritans. Worked with one of the coldest responders who took the phrase "We are just there to listen"???????SMH
Did you hear about the little girl that called 911 from her kidnapper’s house? The operator called her a liar & hung up on her. She called back a couple of times, & the operator threatened to send the police to arrest her. Poor little girl gave up, & the kidnapper killed her.
I don’t remember how her body was discovered, but during the investigation they found out about the 911 calls. Her parents had to listen to the 911 recording in court. It was awful.
That laundry story... OOF! When my male cousin was in university, his mother, who had always done his laundry, was hospitalized with cancer. His younger sister (high school age) took over doing the laundry and accidentally put a red item in with the whites. My male cousin was shocked to find whenever he complained about this to his university friends or our side of the family, the universal response was "Why was your sister doing your laundry?" Incidentally, my aunt's dying wish was for my female cousin to stay at home and take care of her brother and father. My female cousin went along with this while her mother was alive, then after she'd passed away tapped instructions for how to do laundry to their machine and attended university in another country.
I actually never separated clothes with color and prioritize doing more at once to save power. So far it worked just fine. Either way I dont think your cousin should have been obligated to take care of her brother and father unless they are actually disabled or really sick. Especially your father being an adult (I dont know what age everyone else is and that may matter). They instead should be taught basic skills and then care for themself

Good on her. There is no reason why an adult cant do their own housekeeping. Anyone over 14 should. I am glad she is living her life and not being held back for nonsense reasons.
my first year of college, my roommate was from a very wealthy family. her mom would come each season to rotate out her designer clothing, and would drive an hour every friday to pick up her dirty clothes and have them cleaned, returning on sunday with clean clothes and some kind of baked good. I was going out to do laundry myself, being the laundry in our dorm was mere feet from our room, and my roommate said, "oh, I've never used a washer or dryer before. I don't know how." And I said, "well, you're 18. You are gonna learn today!" I walked her through step by step, and after she said something to the effect of, " Thanks for showing me, but I'm just going to let my mom keep doing it."
I watched one of my co-workers (back when I worked retail) deal with an "entitled hot-chick" in the most epic way. She was trying to get a discount on her order and thought if she just bat her eyes and giggled that he would do anything she said. At one point she gave him her best flirting look and said "Come on, you can lower that price for meeeeeeee". By coworker just gave her his best deadpan look and said "Honey, you're not that hot" and just went back to ringing her order. The look on her face was priceless.

Even though I've actually been taught to do similiar things from my mom, she probably had as well, it's your choice to do it or not.
Women (like men) are taught behaviour that sometimes isn't ... great.

My daughter went to Texas A&M. One time while visiting her there, a young man approached me by the laundry room. He said " excuse me ma'am, could you please show me how to sort my clothes to wash?", of course I did! He was so polite.
My sister went to a fairly swanky college with a lot of absurdly wealthy international students. My mom helped her move up and ended up holding a “how to take care of yourself” boot camp including laundry, simple meals, budgeting, and washing dishes.
It was almost sad how grateful the kids were to be shown basic life skills for the first time ever. Hell, one guy didn’t even know how to pump gas. It was unreal.
I'd have helped too because he was so polite but I'd have to admit I don't sort my clothes...or towels... I do them all together. 🤭 My husband can't tell the difference and it saves me time. I know it sounds like pure chaos to most people though. 😁
A man might be able to pull a car motor out of a car and repair the 1001 pieces blindfolded//but a washing machine is a different machine and the process is SOMETHING they just don't know. Sorting, I never do but then everything is permanent press and none of it is RED. Most of the colored stuff has been washed at least twice, so there is very little chance of color run.
. When a guy asks, it is because they just don't know how them machines work with what soaps and when to use bleach and when NOT to.
. Same story in the kitchen...with baking. Or how to make a gravy. We never had to do it from scratch. Men do not like to admit they are lost in the kitchen. One does tire of sandwiches.
@@fleetwoodmacncheese4159- Honestly same. The only real distinctions are being careful with garments known to bleed pigment-keep them from the white clothing-and separate any items that are delicate fabric for a cold wash and gentler cycle. Lots of cloths and towels end up with the undies and socks just because it’s easier. 😂
@@Rikrobat I stopped sorting years ago as well. I think somewhere around the 90s the detergent people changed their formulas so that we no longer needed to use chlorine bleach for our whites, and there were likely changes made around the same time in clothing dyes. I haven't seen any colors 'run' in decades.
Here’s my question: How did that 911 operator keep a job long enough to ignore thousands? I feel like after a couple of ignored calls, at the most more than 10, she should have been caught and held accountable. The people in charge of her should also been held accountable.
I was wondering the same. Maybe it happened over the course of a long time, so it seemed like she was working most of the time but an hour or so a day she’s just cancel calls which would probably rake up quickly

They were probably aware she would play the black/woman card until it was so big an issue they couldn't ignore it any longer.
I was thinking the same thing. How no one noticed that she just kept ignoring the calls? Don’t they keep statistics from calls?
As a former 911 operator she must e worked a very busy station like NYC, DC, or the like… I took 100-200 calls a day (12hr shift) and we were a moderately busy station granted I was fire/ems and everything went thru the sheriffs office first (police, fire, or medical) he must’ve just flown under the radar but the fact it was never picked up in when there’s SO much QA (weekly) and shift meetings (at least in my city)… she’s lucky if she’s not receiving felony charges and prison time.
I grew up in a house with five women: mum, grandma and an aunt, plus my two sisters. It was the 70s and 80s, so I never lifted a finger to do any chores at home. Everything was taken care for by the women in my family -they were very, very traditionalists. Mind that I was always trying to learn how to cook, though. I loved the smells, textures, colors, tastes of food and wanted to know how to prepare those dishes, but my grandma said that kitchens weren't places for boys. Then, when I finished college, I was recruited into the Navy (in Spain military service was mandatory until the 90s), but wasn't that difficult experience; after all in the Navy everything is regulated and besides making your own bed and taking care of your clothes and your job everything else is done for you by the guy who had the task assigned.
Then I married a wonderful girl that thought that house chores are a thing of both sexes, not just women. And here is the thing: I never had a problem to do any of the chores. You don't need a degree to make a washmachine function: you only need to know how to read the manual; and cooking, at least functional cooking, is about following the recipe... Now I am 52, widow, and with two adult sons and one daughter. There is no magic: just work and common sense. Entitlement only got you so far.
Wow, that is actually a really cool experience. Thanks for sharing! I've been free of such responsibilities because my parents think that my job as a child is a student and being 18 now, I suddenly found myself completely an idiot on chores and everyday life. The fact that you have such self-discipline is really amazing!
My husband and I are old-fashioned. I take care of cleaning the house and clothing, and the cooking and he takes care of the car, lawn/snow and repairs. Sometimes I need help and sometime he does. It all works well. We've been married over 30 years and still happy together. I love your story. Sorry for your loss, even if it's been a while. Those are great memories from your childhood and married life. Stay safe.

@@milton7763 Before we married we sat down in a restaurant for 5 hours and we discussed our "want" and "don't want", our expectations, etc., even to the point of making the bed or not and how do we cut our toasts. We had one fight, about ten years in, and that was it. It worked out for us. Even if it would bother, let's say my mother or his, if it doesn't bother us who cares? My children never blinked an eye because our bed is half made: one military style, the other all crumbled together. I think my husband can demand anything I promised that day such as tell him a week in advance before I'm going to cheat on him.
My kids didn’t break things but one of my daughter’s would open candy and say now you have to buy it. I would buy it and eat it in front of her in the car. She stopped after a few times! 😂

Like David, when I worked at Starbucks one of our partners (an employee) got hit in the head with one of the magnetic signage boards that hang behind the counters with the menus on them and he fell on the floor. He happened to fall in front of the cold beverage station and some woman had the audacity to throw a fit that we couldn't make her frappuccino because one of our employees was being seen by EMTs in front of the blenders.........
Aww that poor woman! She just wanted a Frappuccino! Because there is a shocking lack of Starbucks locations in the United States... this tortured soul probably had to drive upwards of 3 city blocks to find another one! 🙄🤣
@@hellowendy1029 😂😂😂😂 at first I thought you were sympathizing with her for real 😂😂 but really tho, the next Starbucks wasn't too far away & frappucchinos don't even have that much coffee in them, so I promise you will be OK without one ma'am. But you don't even have to go without, you just have to be patient for 5, maybe 10 minutes while he is helped up off the floor by EMTs...

My eldest once broke a squishy ball with weird gunge in the middle of it in the shop before we bought it, it made a huge mess and the lady serving noticed him flapping (he has Autism) & decided she would tell him he must just be super strong and not to worry as stuff like that happens all the time. She then cleared it up and when we offered to pay for it, she said not to be silly and wished us a lovely day. ❤
As much as there are bad people in this world there’s a good one.

I once visited my childhood street and the surrounding area… I decided to go and take a photo of the church where I was christened, and where my grandparents are buried in the graveyard next to it. A Karen came screaming out of her front door about 20/25 feet away, yelling I wasn’t allowed to be there, that I’m not allowed to take photos of the church because it’s “her” church… she thought that because she lived on the same street, she owned the church! I tried to explain I was originally from the area myself, and was paying one last visit to my grandparents before I moved away, and just wanted a few photos of it and the church as keepsakes, and she continued to yell at me and told me she was going to call police on me for taking a photo of a church that played a few parts in my life. Now I can’t even enjoy the photos because I only remember her, and not the peaceful day I had planned there. Imagine being entitled to your local church.

@@cm3753 abusing children should be an instant life sentence in my books! I know, she looked almost proud of herself...
The truth is far less scandalous. The mother had taken her child to hospital with a 'suspicious injury' and the police were called. The staff at the hospital called the police yet could give no real justification for accusing the mother other than her being a bit common and short tempered. Despite having nothing but the flimsiest of evidence, her aggressive tone and history of assaulting an adult previously made the authorities decide to take the child into protective custody.
The child had been sitting on the mother's lap during the discussion and when the police officer demanded the child, the mother stood up, thrust the child towards the officer and for the briefest time the child was unsupported in 'mid air' as the mother stormed off. The police officer caught the child (30lbs so not a 'baby') but snapped her head back as she did so and trapped a nerve. This was because she had a pre-existing condition which the sharp action revealed. This required surgery.
This mother was an aggressive, socially awkward person with a tragic history of being abused as a child. Her love of child services was quite soured after being put through 37 foster homes as a child. She was frustrated, has dyspraxia (which comes with poor coordination) and was being accused of abusing her child with no evidence and was having her child taken by those same child services.
The officer who 'caught' the child claims that she can no longer hug her own child because of the trauma and injury (her injury from the completely successful operation to free the nerve trapped due to a pre existing medical condition) and her own daughter can't sleep because of nightmares that a bad woman is going to stab her or her mom. Her child did not witness the 'attack'.
The mother was massively in the wrong, was charged with assault and sentenced, with the judge suspending the sentence because the mother still had full custody of both children, no charges had been brought for child abuse, and a custodial sentence would have required her children be put in the same child care system that abused and damaged the mother. She may be free, to care for her children, but she has a criminal record with all the complications that brings.
The tabloids deliberately made this bad event seem massively worse than it was. The police officers injuries were only tangentially linked to the incident given she essentially had a time bomb waiting to go off in her shoulder. As for the trauma being so great she can't bare to hug her own child and her child being emotionally scarred? Sounds like she is trying to get work related disability. Even an injured should means you just hug your child from the other side and there is no causation for not hugging your own child. As for the child having nightmares... what stories has she been told to be so traumatised?

@@AnonEyeMousegreat update to this story! Was this in the uk? I took my first child to hospital when she was little as she fell off the bed and they all but accused me of lying and hurting her. I would never go to hospital again unless routine care or life and death. They can’t wait to accuse parents and take children off them. Sensationalist headlines are disgusting, especially when they have real messed up stories they could be printing but certain officials would be done for. Sad.
Oh I wish a native French speaker would answer that “ad” and spend 30 minutes a day teaching them the wrong pronunciations and “slang.” Then post it on a UA-cam channel. I’d watch that.
This reminds me of a friend who moved from England to Wales in the UK.
She asked another friend in wales how to say ‘good morning’ in Welsh. She was saying good morning to people for about two months and wondered why she often had odd looks.
The friend had taught her how to say ‘Bloody Hell!’ lol
I actually do something similar on a weekly basis, but it's a language "tandem". This means the person practices my language and I practice theirs

I gave my son what I called "Bachelor Training" starting in his early teens. One of the tasks was doing his own laundry. One time when he was online, a friend was shocked that he had to go get his laundry and put it in the dryer. This was a guy in his late 20s still living with parents! LoL
Same. My son has been doing his laundry since he was 13 :) He also cooks dinner for the family every now and then (cooking was actually a class in his school). I also absolutely refuse to clean their rooms... I don't care how much it stinks in there, and how much it grosses me out. They are responsible for their own mess.
And this is the 21st century. I really never dreamed boys would still be raised in ignorance.
As a former Emergency/911 Dispatcher I hate that the only times you hear about them is in cases like these or if one helps a toddler deliver a baby!! Millions of 911 calls are made in the US Daily, people ALWAYS credit 1st Responders but forget that the FIRST First Responder is the person answering that initial call & is responsible for not only sending the proper resources/equipment but also the SAFETY of the crews responding whether it be Police, Fire Engines, Aircraft etc...
It's the same with everything that goes right. If the system works people move on and don't think about it. No one thinks about nurses until a pandemic. No one thinks about the weatherman until there is a hurricane. No one thinks about the cleaning staff even in a pandemic.

I'll pass on a tip I Always give people: If you are in an unfamiliar area, highway, city etc...PLEASE make mental notes as you go about exits, landmarks etc...You have no idea how many responses are delayed by people not knowing where they are & as we know from some tragic cases your mapping program may not always be correct. I got a call once from a lady in Napa reporting a fire, I asked her for a location & she said "Its on the side of a hill w/trees and rocks" Anyone ever been to the Napa Valley...Yeah...I rest my case. Be Safe y'all.
My youngest once broke a wine bottle at the store. He grabbed it from the cart. I waited for an employee to come because of the glass. I offered to pay but was told not to worry about it. That is the only time my boys broke anything in a store. Your children are your responsibility . If they brake something you should try to make it right.
I hope you have enough good sense (looks like you're heading in the right direction) to teach your children the correct spelling and usage of words i.e. break.

I have dated entirely too many guys who are seemingly completely helpless and cannot or will not do their own laundry, make their own food, rinse off a dish or scoop the leftover bits of food into the trash so they don't get stuck down the drain. NOW I have two small boys (3 & 6) and they help me with most of my cleaning (except when I clean with chemicals). I'm raising them to understand the importance of cleaning and being self-reliant while they are young so they grow up knowing it's normal instead of doing everything for them which would result in them learning to expect it for years to come. My precious little boys are such big helpers! All I have to say is "I need your help to do laundry" and at any given time, one or both of them will be there to help me sort the clean clothes or load the dirty clothes into the washer. My youngest loves to run around and collect all the dirty clothes and put them into a basket and my eldest is always asking me if he can do the dishes since we don't have a dishwasher. I let both of them turn on the washing machine and I show them which setting to choose, same with the dryer. My eldest just started his first year of school so I've been teaching him the importance of putting all his dirty clothes in one place so they get washed each week and then putting them in his dresser where he can find them. If he is unwilling to help me with his laundry, I demonstrate that laziness isn't a good choice and although I still make sure his clothes are clean, I'll leave them in the laundry basket and have him dig through it to find his school clothes. I explained to him that this is why it's important to finish your chores and put your clothes away where they belong so they're easy to find on school mornings. Until recently we had a miniature vacuum that actually worked and my 6-year-old loved to clean his room with it until it broke and we had to throw it away. They may not be very skilled yet in their ability to clean and sort but by starting them young and including them in these sorts of everyday chores, they will not only be good a them but it will become second nature and hopefully they will not be the helpless man-child in people's lives but helpful individuals capable of handling these things themselves. That being said, my husband was fully capable of taking care of everything himself before I came along and now he acts like the biggest child and can't/ won't cook, clean or handle any laundry... Our boys won't be like that if I can help it. 😊 I love all my children, including the man-child.

I saw a cafe in Bangkok and a sign outside said “we would like to learn! please come and speak English to us” but it was adorable instead of entitled. That first one I mean... hmmm
If I saw a request like this I'd (if I had time) probably accept bc they actually want to learn and it's hard to learn by yourselves on a App or something.
Went to a restaurant in taiwan where you make your own pizzas when they had a language exchange evening on. Was a good opportunity to meet locals and also learn some words in mandarin, win win. Although pretty much all the locals there seemed to speak pretty much perfect english and were probably there to just have a drink with foreigners and maybe help maintain their language skills rather than learn.
Yeah....that's a totally different thing though. Also, a really good way to get people in the cafe. Smart.
So so so many of the awful entitled would be acceptable if just rephrased more kindly

I once had a woman in my drive thru (I work at Tim Hortons for all my fellow Canadians lol) get angry at how long she had to wait for her coffee (she waited about 2 minutes) I was by myself running both storefront and drive thru with lineups in both. She got so angry she actually threw her coffee through the window and hit me in the leg.
EDIT: I got her plates and did call the police. From what I know nothing happened but she did get banned from all of the owners stores. (He owned every store in the city I live in😂😂)
For a Canadian, that can feel like a life sentence. 😅
I think Charlotte is a really good singer. Like when she was singing by her voice and not faking it, it was really beautiful.

This is where I am with the kid in store issue- as a mom of 2 boys MY kids MY problem MY responsibility if my kids are the type to break stuff they learn to respect what’s not theirs or if small enough to stay in the cart and I make sure they don’t grab anything. As a parent our children is OUR responsibility no one else’s!!!

I have a friend who is a part time professor and she gets people like this in her class all the freaking time! I’m just astounded at the audacity some of these people have. One person was trying to say they needed a support person to help them complete their final exam. Not as in a physical helper for an actual disability, but they wanted someone there to answer the questions for them! And then tried to say my friend was bigoted for refusing that “accommodation”. Another person got mad when they were caught plagiarizing on their final paper - “how was I supposed to know it’s bad to copy someone else?!?!l WTF!?!?

I came from the you break it you buy it generation. So I’ve done things like pay for stuff my friends broke or messed up before in stores. (As long as it’s not expensive, unless it’s my mistake) I’ve just been on the side where I lost work hours because of people stealing in the store so much and breaking things and not paying for them.

12:40 my sister & I were both extremely shy & quiet as children, VERY well behaved in public. the only time I ever broke something at a store was when I was around 4 & I was helping my mom put the items on the moving belt at checkout & the applesauce jar was too big/awkward to fit my hands around, & it was heavy (early 90s when things were still glass) and it slipped & dropped on the floor, immediately shattered and applesauce exploded into a puddle on the floor. I felt SO bad & was so embarrassed. I just remember sobbing so hard saying “I’m sorry” on repeat. The cashier was so sweet & no one was mad & I don’t think they made my mom pay for the broken one. The bagger went and got us a new one. I think in cases like that they shouldn’t have to pay, that’s just part of the price of doing business. But if your child is being a pill & purposely breaking items or throwing stuff around then ya, the parent is responsible for that cost.

That's so inappropriate! I have a two and a half year old boy and a 3 month old daughter. We love thrifting and antiquing, so we regularly have our littles around fragile things. We talk about how we're going to behave before we go on the store and we either carry them or the 2 year old has to hold our hand. We absolutely know that we have to pay for any damage done!

I read that article about the woman not paying for an item her kids break. She said in the article she’ll pay for it if it’s a small business, but if it’s a big business, let’s say Walmart, then she won’t pay for it. She also said she’ll be more careful when she shops with her kids to avoid breaking items.
Also, while working at the gas station, if a kid broke something, or bit into something they weren't supposed to, and the parent honestly asked to take responsibility and pay for it, i always just let them get off without an issue.
But i don't particularly have mercy on parents who try to hide it. If they dont understand what responsibility is, how can they teach their kids what it is?

@@adim1041 if it was in the US, it’s not insurance. It’s a deal with their suppliers and a tax break. Things that can expire can be “damaged” out: occasionally for a partial refund from the supplier, but usually just a tax break for unsold/unsellable goods. Broken or expired.

I broke a pint of grape tomatoes. It was like the plastic pint exploded and the little tomatoes rolled everywhere. I tried to chase them down and the staff got down on the ground to get them and told me not to worry about it. I tried to pay for it and they said its okay. I still feel bad for making staff crawl around on the ground and still worry its my fault there might be a tiny rotting tomato lodged somewhere in the store.
If my kid was so out of control, and I left them completely unsupervised, putting them in a situation where they are able to break something - yes, I'd feel it is not only my obligation but also my responsibility to pay for it. Your child, your responsibility. You and your child are not entitled to destroy other people's property whether it be intentional or accidental.

Either that or they reduce the number of full timers to save on benefits. This means less service for guests. My kid broke something the other day so i made them buy it.
My mother worked at a fabric and crafts store and made a display out of modelling clay the store was selling. A customer's child started trying to pick the display apart, so my mom told the kid to stop. The kid's mom became indignant at this, loudly proclaiming, "I will parent MY child!" My mom looked her in the eye and simply said, "get started." God, I love a good laconic comeback.

So many 911 operators save lives and then there’s this overly entitled person who is so self obsessed they won’t even do the job they’re paid for.... wow. I am sure this job must be extremely stressful so if you need a break say so, don’t hang up on people in emergencies. I’m just disgusted that this person has a job where people’s lives are on the line and in their hands.
My daughter is a 911 operator here in Canada. You must have a college degree , pass several tests when you apply and take quite a few courses as well. Plus upgrading courses. Even then it takes a long time to ever become full time. Everything they do is recorded and they are reviewed regularly. They have very strict rules about everything. It is not an easy job.
However I have heard of cases like this in the states before. From what I understand, and I do not know for sure, some states require no education or real training at all. Anyone can get the job. You can see where that could lead to problems.
If this woman got away with ignoring thousands of calls... there is a real problem with management and the functioning of the 911 call center as a whole. Her boss literally never paid enough attention to realize she was doing this for thousands of calls? There needs to be firings and a total housecleaning of that department.
Her mugshot alone showed she couldn't be bothered, even with being found guilty of it. That expression just screams disgust. Could be at herself for her own actions but I somehow doubt it.
@@dawne5139 Being from the states, I can confirm that there have been some really nasty cases concerning 911 operators, I even remember one from Detroit Michigan back in the 90s where a 6 year old girl had called to report her parents had been shot and the operator simply didnt believe the girl and hung up. Needless to say it was a tragic outcome for the little girl and the operator was found guilty of negligence.
About entitled customers... I used to work for a government info line a few years back. There were some really big wild fires that were consuming both US and Canada, and the air quality took a deep dive. It was rough, especially for people with pre existing conditions. This lady called the infol ine to ask "WHAT IS THE MAYOR DOING ABOUT THE AIR QUALITY..." It took everything I had to bite my tongue hard enough to not tell her that he's on the tallest building down town with a fan, trying to blow it away.
There’s been a few times my daughter has broken something at a store and I’ve always brought it to the front when I check out and explain what happened and always offered to pay for it but they’ve always been like “it’s okay things like this happen don’t worry about it.” I suppose I’ve been lucky. One time I went to the market and there was a lady and she had 3 kids they were kinda dirty and looked very cold. She said she was out of food cuz it's not the first yet and she doesn't get any money until then. She only wanted like 5 items. I got her about a weeks worth of food even though it was 4 days before the first. I noticed that two kids didn't have shoes. She said they out grew them so there was a cheap discount store next door so I told her I will get one pair for each child. The shoes run about $6-15 each no prob. It's in the middle of January and it's freaking cold. As I was paying for the shoes she came back with a huge cart full of clothes and I'm like no! It was a massive pile of clothes and I already spent $78 on her kids for food and shoes and she was pissed. I said only a sweater each and she was like no and I was like I'll give you a number to a place that gives clothes to needy people and she told me off in front of the store the manager kicked her out .

One of my kids broke something on accident one time while at a store. And he cried so hard because he knew that he did something he shouldn't. I would've and offered to pay for the item, but the manager wouldn't let me. I think he felt too bad for my son who was so upset by it. He did say he appreciated me offering though. I have 3 kids and that was the only breakage at a store.
When i was a kid my dad taught me this, “if you dont have the money for it, dont touch it.” Never did break anything thus never had to pay anything.
Store breakage is usually covered by store insurance. If it isn't you can only be liable for the price the store paid for the item, not the retail value.
Alot shops here in New Zealand have a u break it u pay for it but generally that only for really expensive items shop owners here are pretty lenient with kids knowing they not mean anything and accidents happen they just write it off under insurance

When my fiance and I decided to start looking for an engagement ring (a couple years after engagement), my fiance legit was under the strong impression that he'd need to spend an absolute ridiculous amount on a ring as that's what is 'required' of him. I had to explain to him that engagement rings were'nt even a thing until the diamond cartel munipulated the public to think that back in the 50's. I told him he has a budget of no more than $250 which is roughly one weeks rent which i think is pretty fair. We found the perfect ring at $140 and still had enough to get him an engagement ring (funny story, i'm the one that proposed first, he proposed when the ring finally arrived. He had planned to propose in the cinema in front of everyone, but i wanted a bottle of water when the previews we're still on so he went to buy one, but didn't get back till the movie started because the line was apparently very long. He proposed after the movie when we'd got back to the car. Deff no romance story, but it's a funny one so i can't hate).
I can't understand the entitlement and expectancy that people have of others, especially when a person expects someone to live up to someone else. The worst of it is the fact that nobody seems to have ever said 'no' to these people.

I think it completely depends on the store. If it’s at a small or independent shop any broken item most likely comes from the store bottom line. I used to would in an independently owned drug store/pharmacy. There was no insurance to cover broken things. Not sure if any of you looked the article up, but the lady continuously listed account after account where her “cute” kids broke or stole things. It was apparent she didn’t care. I think most of us consider it a minor problem because it’s not a regular occurrence. The author was completely indefensible though.

I’ve been in a situation where a driver parked over the lined area *as* I was lowering my ramp. I “tried” not to scratch her vehicle 🙄 . Actually, rather disappointed at how well I maneuvered around with minimal damage. She bopped back out to leave, saw her door wasn’t pristine and flashed me a dirty look. Was also disappointed she didn’t say a word to me - I was ready to bring it home.

I took the time to read the article where the woman says she won't pay for things in the store that her kids break... She actually thinks that it falls under the store's shrinkage policy. Shrinkage (from what I remember) covers small items that are stolen and damaged goods, but that doesn't mean that you can just let your kids break something and then "put it back on the shelf and get a new one" as she said she does. That's NUTS!
I once broke a bottle of olive oil that was placed at the end of the aisle(Christmas time); I was not charged even though I offered to pay for the damage. I did report the accident as soon as it happened, someone could have slipped. Usually i don't think stores will charge if its an accident, they do happen! Depends on the store.

About a week ago, at the store I work at, I was keeping an eye on this one kiddo, he’s come in alone, so I was expecting a Code Adam (missing child) alert in the mall. He picked up one of the stretchy dragons we have by the tail (wings or tails are actually great handles) and I was shocked when the tail popped off! Very fine sand goes everywhere, and this poor kid is just standing there, holding the tail. To my great surprise, he dug the body out of the box, looked at the price tag, and brought this deflated dragon up to the register, offering to pay for it.
We did not make him do so. Since I’d seen the tail pop off as he was only trying to pick it up! Had to dig out the store’s vacuum to get all the sand up, of course. This little guy was so distraught at what had happened, even though we told him it was fine, obviously a manufacturer error, it was not his fault in the least.

Here's one straight out of Los Altos, Cali, a pretty well-to-do town in Silicon Valley. My mother in-law lived in a retirement community that is in a neighborhood of pricey homes. The complex wanted to expand how many units it had and add a new extended care section - all on land they owned. When the plans went up in front of the Planning Commission one family, who lived across the street from the complex, stated that they did NOT want this expansion because they did NOT want their CHILDREN growing up around OLD PEOPLE. I kid you not. The expansion went through and I've no idea if the family moved or accepted the fact that people do get old. WTF?
But the parents compared to the children are old people. And what about the children grandparents??🙄

I laughed, but yeah, I get it, your parents do everything for you, you won't know how to do simple tasks.

I've worked in retail before, and if children accidentally break something, we wouldn't have the parents pay for it. stores and companies have insurance for things like that.
Managed retail for 24 years and no, insurance does not cover that (premiums would be astronomical). It is written off as the cost of doing business, just like loss from theft. Insurance covers major loss from things like fire, looting, or natural disasters.
A lot of local owned businesses in my areas have signs on door that state you are responsible for anything broken or damaged. I've never seen them go after actual accidents, but if not...
Where do you think they get the money to pay insurance for what they do cover, from raising prices to customers.

That A/H act was on another level, she was entitle and expecting the handouts to fund a ridiculous life style not asking for help with basic living, She and others like her with their entitlement and damn near brain atrophy of expectation, expect a champagne life at the cost of all those around them and the give nothing back to the community.
There are many, many people who for many reasons use welfare as a hand up and don’t expect it as a hand out and for some it’s their only way to survive.
Welfare also helps many to have the very basics to live by. It’s not something that is fun or something to brag about but the ability to feed yourself and or kids, get medication, have a roof over their heard while on hard times Is so important and what about those who physically cannot work due to disability by birth, disability/sickness that manifested later in life or those who were disabled for a time or for life while working or for those who have disabled children they need to care for so cannot work.
Should they all be left to go homeless or die or be euthanised (because too hard basket?)because they don’t deserve to have help for the basics to live with?
I truly hope you are never in a spot that requires you to need welfare or government handouts.
Also governments (pretty much all that I’ve heard of) have run great Champaign’s about dehumanising those who require help, by saying things like they are all druggies/lazy/waste of space/scammers wanting free money/ that many are on multiple accounts to get extra/ faked disabilities ect to make people feel ashamed for needing help and make others judge them negatively and feel like anyone on welfare/assistance are all bludgers/scamming the system, when in reality that is such a teeny tiny minority who do anything shady or illegal to get paid.

I was thinking the same thing when I was younger I was a call center employee and we would check daily how many calls someone hung up on 25 or more and the next day they get monitored all day if they hung up on a cx again they were let go it's called call avoidance
