"Salem's Lot" was the first REAL horror movie I have seen, and started me on the path to being a fan of the genre. Later that same year, I went with my mother to see "The Amitiville Horror" and there was no turning back.

The part where Danny sits up in the casket scared the living shit out of me when I was 8 and I'm 50 now. What scared me then is probably my favorite part of the movie. While not overly gory, the suspense and scare factors are top notch. I had nightmares of the aforementioned scene for almost 4 years. I couldn't get that scene out of my head. I was really pissed off with the 2004 version in that they didn't play out the whole scene. I hope that they do better in the 2022 version.

I'm very thankful and envious of folks like you who can go to these places and document how these places look today. It must be a real blast to be standing in these iconic locations where movie magic happened. I also enjoy the original version of Salem's Lot. It's got to do with the locations, the time period it was filmed in, the creepy Martsen House and one of the scariest vampires in movie history. Love it!

I was 14 when I saw the Salem’s Lot miniseries. It was the scariest program on television. And I loved every minute of it(except for the edited movie version when it came out). When I saw the book at a bookstore, I bought it and when I read it, I kept looking over my shoulder. It was the first time I ever discovered Stephen King.
I think the film Outbreak was also filmed in Ferndale, was it?
Seeing the town as it is, I guess a creature of the night would be proud to roam around the avenues and alleyways in town.
Great job and thank you for the update.
    Peace.

It's been over 40 years since this movie's release and it's still one of the most creepiest movies I've ever seen. I'm still creeped out over the music and everything about this movie. The 2004 remake with Rob Lowe doesn't come close in comparison to the original 1979 release. I still watch it to this day and it still creeps me out after over 40 years.

I actually have. Funny story, early last year, first weekend of January, I tried to visit the location but it was all locked down due to COVID. The only way to get on the property was to rent the space for a wedding or event. I still have the footage I shot leading up to my disappointment. They also shot View to a Kill and Phantasm there. I plan to try visiting that place again this year and I will tell the story. Oakland is really close to where I live so not much of a trek. Thank you for watching this video. Since this pandemic took hold a couple of lines from Salem's Lot keep playing in my mind:
"Susan...you've got to go back to Boston. There's a kind of plague in this town, people are dying, don't you understand what's happening?"
    "Do you?"
    and
"...they're breeding on one another, the vampires are creating vampires. It's a geometric progression, two times two times four times eight..."

Excellent video thank you! I'm a die hard Salem's Lot fan and they don't make movies like this anymore. Question I want to ask you. I have done numerous google searches looking for an answer with no luck. Regarding the Marsten House. Where was the interior of the Marsten House filmed? I know there is no way it was filmed in the inside of the house on the hill because it's way too small. The interior looked incredibly huge in the movie. Apparently it was attached to a basement as well. I would think the interior was filmed inside a large abandoned house or building. Just wanted to know if you know the answer to that question.
