The Fog is still one of Carpenter's most atmospheric and genuinely classic horror film. The opening will never be beat. An old salty sailor telling a story by the campfire about a classic seafaring legend.
The opening is EXACTLY the perfect example why Carpenter movies are so awesome! he distills down everything to it's core, so it can be done any better! This opening rocks and a lot of the other scenes also! Great movie! One of the best!
Agree. And my favorite. 😊
Who here has always fantasised about owning a lighthouse radio station? What a great job to have. Playing tunes and looking out across the sea in solitude. Yes please!
All sounds great until you see Fog rolling in.
Sounds like heaven to me
@@loulou7963 I agree with you lou lou
Longs as I got my books my colouring books and puzzles and my dogs and children it be heaven 💕
I would love that too.. If it gets foggy ill just play the titel melodi for "THE fog" 😄😉😱to calm My listeners
Imma say it, without irony or hesitation; _'The Fog' (1980)_ is, by far, my all-time favourite *John Carpenter* movie, of all time! 🖤🖤🖤
Agreed
With you on that one. 👍 😊
well I'm almost there with you on this one, but I do have to say mine is The Thing!
@@erikdiaz142 more than fair, hun; if everyone in the world all loved the exact same things, in the exact same way, oh my days what an incredibly _boring_ world this would be!
Don’t sweat it, *_'The Thing'_* is most people’s favourite *John Carpenter* movie, in my experience, usually closely followed by *_'Escape from New York'_* 😊
Saddens me that so few Halloween fans are aware of this gem.
I’m Aware and I have 3 copies on dvd and the remake
Yup
@@choicetaco44 The remake pales in comparison, no one can replicate Carpenter's magic.
I really enjoyed this story too. They don't play this movie often. I wish they did.
It is truly one of my all time fav movies
Janet Leigh from "Psycho" is Jamie lee Curtis mother. Both together in the Fog.
I was already a Carpenter fan but The Fog is one of my favourite movies. Thanks from London UK.
"The Fog"(1980) is the most atmospheric, and probably the scariest horror movie of all time!
Salem's lot would win that title IMO. "Throw away the cross! Face the Master. Your faith against his faith. Do you think you can do that holy man?"
I will check it out. i watched it years & years ago but recall the phone booths and the phones.
stunning views of the wide expanses of the Pacific Ocean.
I so agree!!
@@garysellars8914 😀Absolutely agree Salem's Lot 1979 🎥 is the scariest horror film ever made but there are people out there who feel The Exorcist is number 1 scariest.
John Carpenter is the greatest! I am so in awe of how he scores all his films, what a master.
After all these years it wasn't until my son started playing the keyboard, that he told me John scored all those famous themes.
He’s a true master and legend.
He has a CD out for many yrs of his movie scores
He got me into the horror genre as a kid I saw Halloween and the concept, story, mask, music I was in complete awe and obsessed before the movie even ended
The Thing remake with Kurt Russell kicks butt.
This is one of the top ten movies I watch every Halloween. Love it!!
I ALWAYS have to watch Phantasm every Halloween 🎃
@@sci-figuy6668 I love phantasm!! Saw it at a drive-in in '79.💖☺👍
Agreed!
Yep
Absolutely. 😊
I watched this movie at a friend's house at her insistence. It scared the bejesus out of me! I was so jumpy driving home late that night! I'll never forget this movie! LOL!!
That makes for a good story 🖤
For me it was Phantasm. Freaked me out.
The Entity 1982 is a real stopper! If your into scary movies and haven't seen it? warning it is scary!
I love The Fog. There's nothing better than 80s horror. Great job on the video!
There's just something about the ambiance and mood of late 70s/early 80s horror films. The cars, the wardrobe, the music, the cheap scares, and many of them feature masked or mostly unseen killers. Great stuff.
@@TravelinBand747 I agree completely
Absolutely
80s horror rules!!
@@TravelinBand747 yes the best!!
The film not only featured Jamie Lee Curtis, but her mother Janet Leigh who played Kathy Williams
Also, Jamie Lee Curtis starred on "Halloween" ... and her mom, Janet Leigh starred on "Psycho"...two very scary classic horror movies !!! 🎥
It also featured Nancy Loomis, who was also in Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis.
@@josefizquierdo6139 they are both in Halloween H20
@@josefizquierdo6139 wow only just realized the connection, thanks, Jamie lee certainly come from great acting stock 🫶
And don’t forget Charles Cyphers (“Dan The Weatherman”) , who played Nancy’s dad , the cop Sheriff Brackett , in Halloween @@moviegeek9540
I was waiting for this one , Thanks, expecting Vamp 1986 sometime.
Vamp scared me out of my skin!! 😮
Great documentary, never saw the movie 🎥 it before my time. I plan to go to Point Reyes Lighthouse, I live in the Los Angeles area and familiar with Sierra Madre community. Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed the Big Sur trip. Was on a trip 2.5 weeks ago, and completed the highest point of my Bucket List, by visiting the McWay Falls Beach ⛱. Glad to have found. The Doors were Awesome, and the Historical relevance is phenomenal. Didn't know of the location where Jim Morrison and his wife met, nor did know he wrote the song dedicated to the event of when they met. Awesome lineup of movie 🎥 to documentary and Historical locations. I would not have known, and that cross I have passed it a couple of times in my life Thanks for pointing out it's relevance. ⛰🏞⛰🙋👍🕍🏖⚓⛵🏝
Thanks my friend for these views. John Carpenter is the best director ever. Take care and will the fog be with you.
"Baby Ghoul" - I LOVE that! You guys are hilarious. Thanks for the insight into one of my favorite movies!
John Carpenter, along with George A Romero, were absolute masters of the Horror genre.Halloween,The Fog and the Thing were classics. He also scored the music for his movies.A master of making you JUMP, when you didn’t expect it.Loved his movies👍🤟💀
I absolutely love this visit to the Fog locations- whenever we head to Pt Reyes we are searching out these locations and have pics of the house on the water!
Thanks for doing this video. The Fog is an awesome movie that is very underrated. Neat seeing these places what they looked like back then and now. That view from the light house is amazing. Over 300 steps, might be ok going down but not much fun coming back up, 😁.
Nope going back up would not be fun 😂
This is so neat!! I met Adrienne Barbeau and Tom Atkins about 3 years ago. It was so neat to hear their stories of filming. But, the locations really put you there. The Fog was always one of my family's favorite horror movies. So thank you for sharing!!😄
Awesome. 😊
I remember watching the remake and thinking "Wow. You people learned NOTHING from watching the original".
It sucked. The original was the bom!!
No imagination anymore in Hollywood, just recycling stuff in a bad way.
Absolutely. Some things need to be left alone this was one of them.
Came for The Fog locations
Stayed for Jessica's acting.
oh man... 😅😅😂🤣🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
This is incredible. One of my favorite movies of time. I’m so jealous ❤️❤️
Thanks for taking us on this fabulous tour of "The Fog's" shooting locations. I absolutely adore John Carpenter's work, and especially "The Fog". I've actually explored all of these otherworldly locations around Point Reyes myself, and it was wonderful to see you capture and annotate them on video in such an engaging way. You guys rock! Horror cinema fans such as myself should consider ourselves fortunate to have documentary filmmakers such as yourselves producing such rich and engrossing content on our favourite motion pictures. You seem to have the rare gift of striking all the right notes of dark wonder that make this genre so very special.
I love The Fog from the 1980’s. I hated the remak
Me too
This is the first film I watch when its halloween and leading up to it this is one of favourite films even my kids love it now there grown up
Ive never seen em, I just tried to find the first one but it's not for free. Who the hell would pay money for a movie from 1980?
@@joejones9520 Just get it. It's worth it.
I never even watched the remake. I was intrigued when I heard that Carpenter was executive producer of it, then I heard the unanimously negative reviews, it then became clear that Carpenter was pretty much only involved in name only, and the fact that the trailer even looked terrible, and I was like "Nah."
Dude.. I started watching your videos yesterday, I just subscribed today. You’re awesome, love your stuff!!
Thank you Sean. Welcome
Especially your attention to details.
My favorite John Carpenter film.
Absolutely love The Fog. It's such a beautiful location where it was filmed also.
Great Job!!! I have seen a few sites covering the filming locations on THE FOG, but you actually go into detail on each major site seen in the movie, and love your then and now comparison shots. John Carpenter once owned a house up there in Point Reyes because of it's natural beauty. Jessica was brave to go out onto those rocks in that wind, kudos to her. Keep up the good work, and look forward to your next adventure.
Fantastic movie, and thank you so much for the location shots, where the lighthouse is, its just stunning,I live in the UK and know I will never get there myself so thanks for your hard work 👍happy Halloween 🎃💀🎃💀
Aww me too, I love this movie, not so much the remake, but this vid is brilliant, really enjoyed watching ❤️
You guys read my mind! I was going to suggest this after the Birds location vid. This is my favorite horror movie. Thank you so much for this!
Owow l loved that movie l see it a few te
I actually DID request it in the comments for The Birds. Then come on in a few days, and here it is!!! Sweet!!
Maybe we’re aliens and can read your minds while you sleep. *cue XFiles music* 👽👽🖤🖤
I knew this may be next after viewing the Birds..Great job!
Forward to possibly to The Howling,Salem's Lot,maybe Dead and Buried locations?..Hmmm?
Asked my wife to be my gf at the light tower; married my wife at the fog church in Sierra Madre. The Fog and I are one!! I serve the fog.👹👹👹
The opening shot of the beach being pounded by waves always looks the same every time i see it. strange how 40 years later it hasn't changed at all even though the beach is constantly pounded by waves and wind. So cool.
Great vid. John had a knack for "creep factor" in a movie. Anyone else would've turned it into a forgettable B horror movie, but John made a memorable gem out of it. On my first visit to California, the first thing that struck me is the eclectic feel of the place. The fauna and flora, homes, streets, buildings. It's all very unique. I love all the color and lushness. So much history too. It's no wonder celebrities make it home.
Another AWESOME video! The Fog is definitely one of the greatest 80's horror movie. Thanks for taking us along!
Wow, this is fantastic!.. seriously brilliant video guys. Much love from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪.. amazing to see these locations from a film that terrified me as a child, and locations that I’ll most likely never see in person 🙏☘️☘️☘️
HELLO DUBLIN! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
@@grimmlifemodjessica and hello from belfast Jessica and Michael. Danny
I met Adrienne Barbeau last year at a horror convention and she was so nice to my son and I. Talked a while, took pics, thanked us for coming. It was cool
OMG. NO. NO. NO. NO. I cannot believe this. I watched one of your recent videos the other day. As I was watching it, I was thinking to myself, I so wish and hope they do a video of the movie locations for THE FOG (the John Carpenter film..not the remake). I was going to put a comment suggesting you to do a video if ever you could in the future. I love the movie The Fog, and the locations. I just now check UA-cam and see a video for The Fog, and notice IT IS YOUR CHANNEL NAME. OMG. I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. I have not yet watched the video, but I wanted to comment asap. I cannot wait to watch the video. I so very much want to visit The Fog locations. You made my day. THANK YOU.
Your excitement makes what we do completely worth it. We have a lot of locations to tackle on a list and going for the ones closest first but really because we’re excited to go there too and to take you guys there. It means a lot to us to see you have the same love and passion for these places like we do. Much love and ghost hugs. 🎃🖤
I was there a few years ago and checked out all the filming locations of "The Fog"... simply a magical place !
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Being a Norcal girl I love all of these locations. My podcast series is based on the Northern California coastline and often times I think of scenes in The Fog when writing a story. Can't wait to see you on Creature Features this weekend. Thanks for a great video on a totally cool movie.
Thank you 🖤
As a movie buff I'm always on the lookout for great "then and now" film location vids. I have to say yours have been some of the best and I really appreciate the effort that goes into producing them. Also the addition of historical tid bits is really fascinating too. As I'm in Australia I really enjoy finding the locations via Google Earth when you have adequately described their locations (mind you 887 White Beach Lane has defeated me though). Can I also say your assistant is really cute and adds a certain style to your productions!. I look forward to seeing more filming locations in future.
Thank you so much Aussie Joe, this means the world to us. 887 White Beach Lane is the fictional address is the movie. Stevie Wayne is calling out her address over the air so someone can go and save her son.
It always cracked me up how Carpenter peppered Lovecraft references into The Fog when it's so clearly on the opposite coast. He's a great guy and one of my all-time favorite directors and storytellers. Great vid!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I like how John Carpenter said he fell in love with the area during filming and lived here for a number of years. Definitely pick up the special edition DVD of the Fog with all the extra videos, don't forget the pier/harbor at Bodega Bay where they filmed as well. Glad to see how many buildings have survived after all these years. 😊
I have always loved where that lighthouse is. I've always wanted to go there and see it.
I loved this movie as a kid! Awesome job as always!! 💀🎃🕸🖤
I just realized that I spent way too much time watching movies.
The Fog is still my favourite horror movie a timeless classic Halloween is a close second, but what a film so glad you did this one.I am from the UK so the chance of me ever seeing these locations is very slim. Its not just you visiting these locations its how its presented brilliant love it.
The Fog has it flaws but its a favorite film of mine. I'm amazed too that cross is still there 5:15 I drove by the house 7:30 about 20 years ago and it was really cool to see. Went to the lighthouse. It is windy there! Thanks for doing this.
This is my all time fav movie!!
I remember seeing this in a Drive Inn. Nice job on the video, esp. when the car pops up out of no where🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗 Great acting on the beach🤗🤗🤗 !!!
FANTASTIC MOVIE FROM THE JOHN CARPENTER COLLECTION,, ONE OF MY FAVOURITES,,, DAVE HERE FROM DUBLIN IRELAND 🇮🇪,,, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU 2 👍
Your channel has gotten so much better in the last few weeks!! Why you don’t have a show on a major network is beyond me. Love the channel keep up the excellent work.
What a surprise seeing your post for this video on Facebook today, after only watching this movie a week ago. My all-time favourite horror movie, thank you so much, I'm so jealous lol
Greetings from Germany!
I watched the movie again yesterday and, like John Carpenter, it's one of my favorite horror films. Seeing what the original locations are really like and where they are was really impressive. The cemetery also gave me goose bumps, despite the daylight. Thank you both very much for the trip! Greetings again from Germany (Berlin) and don't forget to "stay away from the fog!"
💀💀💀💀
Great job you two! Gorgeous locations! John Carpenter is the man! He is a total game changer of film making and film soundtracks. The Fog is a Classic. I try to watch it every year on the 21st of April!
I always like the movie The fog. I saw it when I was a kid. Thanks for doing the filming locations. This was a really cool video
Michael and Jessica - Superb content as always. I just love John C;s films....
Saw this movie on opening day. One of my all-time favorites growing up. When I found out I lived just under 2hrs from this location I went the very next day. I've walked the lighthouse stairs numerous times.
The kid that found the coin/piece of wood on the beach, is the same kid in "Halloween II", the one who had the razor blade in his mouth. Just thought I'd mention. Great video you did here. I Love Carpenter's films and "The Fog" is in my top three. 👍
I loved this movie!!! One of my absolute favorites...Couldn't wait to see your video on it. You guys have done an excellent job as always with all your videos..Thank you so very much for all that you do, and bringing these places to life for those of us who won't get the chance to go see them..You guys ROCK!!
Thanks again Grimmlife! I didnt know about the Doors connection, and I always learn something here . Great work as always ! : )
Your content has been off the chain lately!! This was another one!!:)
I just discovered you via Scott on tape(who I also just discovered while looking up Chester Benningtons funeral spot) now I am binging all your videos to catch up, love them ..I am afraid to fly but I want so much to see these places, thanks..
Hi , your editing and directing is the best ive seen in these type of , location , vlogs !! And beleive me i watch alot !! Really think you should be picked up for you directing and cinematography. ..well done , excellent ❤
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Agree. It’s impressive
Adrienne!Your pressence and voice are the Bright hope to this Amazing suspense film.😧
Yes it was!!
My next destination will be point Reyes , that’s beautiful. I miss Santa Cruz so much and this reminds me of it.
Couple GOALS. You’re such a gentleman to Jessica.
Really enjoyed this amazing video, as I'm a big The Fog fan. I first saw the film when I was around age 10 or 11, my brother aged around 8 or so, and we ended up watching it on TV, probably in 1985 time or thereabouts. I ended up being scared stiff and to this day, my mum says that she doesn't know how we ended up watching it, as she must have been in the other room that night😄..she'd be getting peace for a while, while we were being scared witless in the livingroom🙈. It now remains one of my all time favourite horror movies ! Brilliant seeing the locations again as have seen other videos on them, but really enjoyed this one. Thank you for making this so informative, well explained and fun ! 😃
So excited to watch this! You guys are incredible. You never fail to amaze me with such great content and interesting and fascinating content at that! Thank you both for all the hard work, love, and passion you put into these videos not only for yourselves but for other's to enjoy as well. Happy Halloween everyone! 🎃🧟♂️
Another great video with you guys. Always a pleasure to see your enthusiasm for the movies we all love.
aw thank you. I got chills when I was at the lighthouse. Its incredible what a fantastic awesome view.
I love The Fog. It has to be the most atmospheric horror film of the 80s. You did a great job and lined up some of those shots really accurately to compare with the movie!
Me and my wife love you're channel! Big move from Florida to California
Just want to say I absolutely love this channel. All the films you pick are also my favourites, and your love for them shines too.
Wow massive respect to you tracking down all the locations, to such an eerie incredible 80's classic film.
The Fog also has a fantastic soundtrack!
Love that purse Jess lol
You two are living my dream! Nevertheless, nice of you to take us along:-) Great channel!
Thank you for taking us with you, another great tour😀✌
Only recently found your channel!! I thought I really hope they do the Fog!! And you have! Fantastic!
So creepily ironic, in your shot of the Morrison house with the sign Love Street, the sign "Dead End" is directly below and behind it. Also, when at the brick wall with the loose brick, the words on the wall read "no barking" instead of no parking. Hilarious.
Awesome video!
Grimmlifers Rule Baby!
Happy Halloween indeed!
I love how Tom Atkins name was Nick Castle in the movie. Nick Castle of course played Michael Myers in Halloween and Tom Atkins would go on to star in Halloween 3.
I really liked H3! 💖😀👍
@Fuqutube agreed!!💖
Ha, nice catch. . I think that mercury station wagon Janet Lee was driving up the old church road was the same car used when Michael Myers escaped in the first Halloween. I could be mistaken.
H3 had killer atmosphere. If it was a stand alone movie it would have gotten more love.
Always good to see a new grimlife upload. It takes me 3 times longer to watch these because I'm constantly going forward and backward comparing the then and now differences since you line the shots up so well. I felt dumb that it took me so long to figure out why it said No Barking on the side of the building. You guys are the best.
I am watching this from Scotland, this is one of my most favourite films ever, Thank you so much and you have a great channel :-)
This video included cool information about one of my favorite bands AND one of my favorite horror movies. Thank you!!🤘
Moin, one of my favorite Horror movie-watched 1981 in cinema.

Another terrific video adventure about another of my all time favourite movies, I love it man!!!
Thanks so much for sharing.
This is an incredible video. Thank you so much. You did a great job. The FOG is one of my favorite movies
Awesome video, one of my favorite all time horror movies from John Carpenter. Thanks for taking me down memory lane of now a classic horror movie we watch every year especially in October. 🧟♂️✌
I love how you call Jessica "baby ghoul". Beautiful scenery! 🙋🏼
Thank you for taking the time to make your videos. I love to watch them.
I still tense up in a fog due to this movie lol
Great stuff guys I'll have to get into the fog now never seen it before 🌁😅
You're in for a treat. A rare movie that proves that gore is not necessary for an effective horror movie. Just avoid the 21st century remake!
thanks for taking me back to my childhood again with this video guys !! It is one of my favorite movies ... greetings from Argentina.
I remember this film coming out, I was about 17 years old. Loved it then and still do today. Guys your so lucky to have all the film locations in your country, love your work guys x , love to you both from England x
More beach locations!☀🌊 ❤ it!! The lighthouse location is so cool. I would have stood there all day taking pictures and enjoying the views. Safe travels. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Also my favorite 😍😍😍
I can't thank you enough for the joy your videos bring. Blessings , Sallyanne in the UK
Great video covering a brilliant film from John Carpenter which like most of his films just gets better as time goes on. Great locations - thank you.
So cool man! All the best from out here on land with the Kangaroos in Victoria Australia.
