@Edgelordゼロ Every single one of them, their psychology don't make much sense, they're just edgy for absolutely no reason and they stay that way for the whole time. I mean sure it's nice to be edgy and it can be kinda entertaining but it doesn't go further than having two personality traits there, and those can almost be summed up as "Is completly crazy/dumb" for half of the characters. That's fine though, it's written for teens, but calling it a classic is kinda meh in my opinion, if you define classic as something everyone should see.
@@neoparmar2169 as an anime only my reaction to CSM was exactly like that of the patchy the pirate meme: That's it? That's the peak fiction? That was just a moderately grimdark shonen! It looks fancy but if that's what's important it would just be another jjk for me to drop. The only thing of interest that happen in that entire season is pochita (literally just the kick the puppy trope) and makima going apeshit. Everything else left me stone faced. Just looking at the anime i have no clue what supposedly makes it so special. whereas dandadan already joined the ranks of the so stupid it's good gang next to flcl, ttgl and kill la kill.
@@Battle2104 Demon Slayer _is_ a very good shounen, no denying that. It's not just random, but you know, in terms of critical acclaim, it isn't super exceptional
@@hundvd_7 Honestly I'm unconvinced it would be that popular if the graphics weren't so good, the story has been really unsurprising at every turn so far, in my opinion !
36:48 I will not tolerate the Eightysix and Violet Evergarden slander, Grant. There are a lot of Eightysix and Violet Evergarden fans on Reddit. Some of them are former US soilders of the War on Terror who love watching anime. I vividly remember when Eightysix came out, a lot of mainstream anime fans dismissed it as "Racism bad" anime, "political agenda" anime. Meanwhile former military veterans and someone like Edward Snowden appreciate its depiction of combat PTSD, political and military aspects.
Yea, but I can understand his point, the light novel portrays much better those feelings you mention. The anime was pretty good but definitely not on the level of the original material
@@Cohow I disagree, the direction and the music alone are two reasons to watch the anime (and I've read the light novel). The two mediums are great to experience in general
I preferred reading 86 but man the anime was an amazing adaptation. Fav scene is probably the collection of videos taken from the robots camera which hit so damn hard.
Frieren getting FMAB treatment is not good for the show itself. If it keeps getting FMAB treatment, it will get a lot of unnecessary backlash in the future even though the show is still pretty good.
Can we stop reading "top 100 favorite anime" as "top 100 best of all time" please... People aren't trying to be objective here, they just vote for shit they enjoyed. I could watch a timeless classic, recognize that's it's objectively good, but still rate it lower than some goofy seasonal if that's what stuck with me the most.
Frieren is one of the rare shows that had its quality exceed the massive hype for the show, but also has an anime adaptation which fully embodied the spirit of its manga (and then maybe doubled that)
@@GrowingDownUnderyour account is you rage baiting for interactions dawg lol. Your personal tastes dictate that it’s mid but objectively, it’s very good. Frieren would not be my #1 for sure but absolutely deserves to be on this list
Nah i'm pretty happy with that number 1 pick. Frieren has blew me away in a way that no other show has even come close to and I love it so much it almost feels like it was made for me personally. Like it's not even been out a year and i've rewatched it several times
Out of Urobuchi's three famous works, I thought Madoka Magica would be the lowest, given its genre. I expected his work on Psycho-Pass S1 and Fate/Zero to rank higher.
Sonny Boy is one of the shows a lot of ppl love, but I just don't get why. I dropped it after 3 episodes. Anyway, from shows that didn't make the list, I'd recommend these: Nodame Cantabile Space Brothers Great Teacher Onizuka Overlord Dungeon Meshi Trigun Beck Initial D Planetes Lovely Complex Detroit Metal City Bakuman Ore Monogatari Prison School Beastars All of those easily deserve top 100 imo.
@@Sukenus i feel that way about re zero, and ive watched the first 2 seasons. Guess everyone has their own preferences 🤷♂️ Also BEASTARS is soo good!! I wish the final season would release soon
I kind of like that FMAB is #9. It is one of the most cohesive and well put animes out there with a perfect ending. But still, I never seem to hear that it is someone's absolute favorite. It's in everyone's top 10 lists but not the favorite. Checks out. Thanks for the video Garnt, was good.
A lot of what you mentioned are classics that are not necessarily in "The Best" list of people, as well as not specific enough (Which Macross? Which Gundam?)
Out of that list I'd only consider Card Captor Sakura which personally I consider the peak of traditional magical girl anime, and Ranma 1/2 which is a timeless gag manga. Macross as a franchise has too little peaks and too many drops. Gundam is hit or miss. Rurouni Kenshin is... good I guess, but it falls to the damn pits after the Shishio arc, so much that I consider anything after that arc to be filler. Also notice how the whole list is devoid of episodic/enemy-of-the-week format anime save for maybe Champloo and Bebop, so Sailor Moon and Trigun are on an uphill battle I guess.
@@zeroyuki92 Even so, the lack of a single gundam is laughable. Gundam Unicorn, Gundam Origins, and Zeta gundam? Gundam is one of the most influential mecha shows of all time, and not even one listed there is sad.
As always not a single Gundam show. Could maybe have had Utena. Sad that Garnt didn't say a lot about Monster. Honestly the list made me realize that we don't really talk about some of these shows like we used to. Now it's always about the hot new thing. I feel like people don't realize how few ''100 anime'' actually is. Even placing 100 is pretty high because there are more out there. there are so many peak anime the list would explode way beyond 100. So most of these shows being here is just popular peak so to speak or a show that is well known for being good and so automatically in consideration for some minds. Just look at Garnt and how biased he is in considering something being peak, sometimes but not always being aware of the nostalgia. That's all of us.
Modoka Magica is one of those shows that if you havent seen, you will not understand why its so high. It just seems like some cutesy magical girls show. But, uh... yeah about that....
@@merlyworm hunterxhunter is one of those shows that before I saw I would never understand why it was so highly rated... and then after watching a handful of episodes I _still_ don't get why everyone rates it so highly. Whereas Madoka is obvious after ep 3 (technically still not obvious why its good, but at least obvious that it is nog just bog-standard shounen). ps: and yes, I am and will always assert that nearly all mahou shoujo shows are actually just shounen shows (but after madoka often deconstructions of the genre) running a different skin on their gun than usual. Like comparing the s1 finale of sailor moon to the finale of most high-stakes arcs of shounen shows, will show they are nearly identical "nakama powah"-brings-tears-to-eye shows.
Summed up Code Geass perfectly, I always say it has so many issues if you actually think about it but that ending is just the best anime ending of all time and that solo carries it. The ending of code geass is unparalleled in anime and I’ll never forget it
Lol code geass isn't the best ending... wouldn't even put it above Banana fish, gungrave, 91 days, devilman crybaby, cowboy bebop, mob psycho 100, basilisk, terror in resonance, etc...
@@balladbay2037I would not go that fair, One Piece is probably unmatched in terms of world building, Naruto falls somewhere in between. Bleach is definitely below HxH imo. The bleach manga mostly has the same structural problems as the anime imo.
As much as I like that manga/anime, I don't think it deserved being higher than some other romance stuff it beat. And am really confused as to why it placed so high when some other "romance but actually f-ed up" shows didn't even show up in the list (like Kuzu no honkai. The ED Heikousen is a banger too; And koi to use was pretty messed up too iirc - though I would agree it might not match the others). As in, unsure how high I would place it myself, but wherever I would place it, it would not drift _too_ far apart from kuzu. Honestly, there is plenty in this top100 list that I don't agree with _at all._ Particularly with some shows not even placing in it at all (how could SAO not show up at all? Or danmachi? Or ngnl? or [insert pretty much any great show that was of the harem genre but wasn't haruhi]? And looking at magical girls stuff, I am happy symphogear made the list, but sad it lacked stuff like nanoha or yuki yuuna)
@feha92 bloom into you isn't a "romance but actually f-ed up", it's a straight diabetic story with minor character drama. I don't know where you got that impression maybe you're confusing it with citrus? I absolutely do think it is one of the best romance ever made and absolutely deserves to be here if not way higher.
@@pougetguillaume4632 I thought bloom into you was that manga/anime about a girl who thinks she might be aromantic, and has another girl confess to her and they start dating as she hopes it might make her actually experience love? As in, a romance story, but actually f-ed up (much like the "we are dating because our respective crushes are dating eachother, and the female crush is a teacher that only likes guys who someone else likes" show, and the "government assigns us our romantic partner, but I will make a mess by also dating the person I actually like"). As for citrus, was that not that yuri step-sibling manga where one character is an absolute asshole? I dropped it after only a couple chapters iirc, on account of that character being such an asshole.
@feha92 that's the gist of it yeah. Which is even weirder because i don't see how it could possibly compare to shows about the governement assigning partners or love triangles. Bloom into you is very vanilla unlike some of the other ones you mentioned
and why exactly the story should be finished to be good? let alone the fact that there are a lot anime that aren't finished yet in a shape of anime, some finished in manga(but this is not a manga top, remind you), some aren't finished even in manga. like Made in Abyss is not finished in anime adaptation, Berserk is not finished by any means, Hunter X Hunter, Mushoku Tensei is not finished in anime, One Punch Man, JJK not in anime, One Piece, Chainsaw Man, MHA... those all are not finished as anime or even in manga, but all that bothers you is Frieren being number 1. this anime is just THAT good it doesn't need to be finished to be on top. i may be not watched every anime in the world, but i watched plenty of them, i haven't seen a single one that maintain its quality throught the whole season. Frieren is one of very few anime that can make you sit for a while to process all you saw in the episode. EP3 and 4 was like that, EP10, EP21, 23, 25-26, and even last two letf things to think about.
@@Circle9ru It doesn't have to be finished to be good. But the ending of a story is like two-thirds of how good it is (for most stories. Some are exceptions, such as eternal stories like one-piece, pokemon, and the like, as for those they are never meant to end as it is actually many many stories masquerading as one). So for a show that isn't finished to beat a finished show, it needs to be, like, thrice as good or something. And then we see such an unfinished show in the #1 spot? _that_ is why it was considered such a reddit moment.
I don't think they collectively decided it's the best, it's just so likable and flawless it's on most people's top 10 and floats higher than things like cowboy bebop or mob psycho that may more people's #1 pick but just doesn't appeal as wide and shows up on less lists.
Violet Evergarden clears the entire list. That anime changed my life, and watching it twice, once as a teenager and now as an adult with a family, it hits different. Bonus points, it's the prettiest anime of all time as well. Vinland Saga is a close second Steins Gate third AOT fourth (that ending made it slip down 2 ranks) Rainbow fifth.
Gits in any capacity missing out floored me. Gun to my head if I had to suggest a "great" anime to someone I dont know id be suggesting something from that series. Rumiko Takahashi missing out also hurt but recency vias almost certainly would get Ranma in now.
42:12 I don't think bocchi is to high , that show was a cultural hit when it aired , it managed to compete with one of the most hyped shows ever chainsaw man while bocchi didn't have previous hype at all
People are so afraid of the recency bias label they are afraid to call out modern classics. Most of the stuff I loved as a teenager only gets more proven with time. If it's popular now it will only get more popular with time
@@terr7892 Bocchi the rock gave me hope that anime was wholesome (first thing I ever watched), I proceeded to watch nagatoro and eromanga sensei after that
@@thaihungphan7255 I disagree, I have yet to hear an argument about why it shouldn't be. Every argument I've heard usually shows people didn't get the show. (Which is strange since the themes of the show aren't actually hidden.)
@@dpolaristar4634 Well the themes is just too forces, I mean I don't want to be remind of racist every 5 minutes. The themes not just aren't hidden but the shows just keep shove it in my throat. I still think FMAB is the greatest anime of all time. and let me repeat myself. best ANIME of all time. not best STORY of all time. a manga or light novel doesn't have stuff like osts, colors, animation, voice acting, opening/endings, pacing, sound effects, etc. and I think FMAB does all of this in general better than any other anime. definitely some who do certain aspects better, but FMAB is solid on like all of these fronts, INCLUDING the story aspect, which has multiple sub-aspects to it as well like character designs, lore, world building, power system, politics, action, emotional depth, morality, etc.
Was so happy to steins gate on there, literally my favorite anime, was sad not see Parasyte on here. My top 3 are Steins gate, Code geass & Samurai champloo
the biggest offense in this top 100 is the lack of any ghost in the shell, i get not putting arise, cus its mid, but cmon, Stand Alone Complex has to be the most complicated piece of political science fiction ever made, i'm talking about the entirety of fiction, shit is just peak, maybe i'm exaggerating a bit, but ghost in the shell SAC is that good
@@kamikaze5528 The problem with Gundam is that not many people are putting Gundam as their favorite show, and for the people that do... They most likely will disagree on WHICH Gundam to put as their favorites
My personal mentions for top 100 would include in no particular order: ReLife, Daily life of highschool boys, Akame ga kill, Nisekoi, Great teacher Onizuka,Kyoukai no Kanata, Parasyte maxim, Hotarubi no Mori e, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Durarara,Darling in the FranXX(fight me if you disagree!!!!),Overlord
If anyone is surprised that Stines Gate is #2 when voted by Reddit REDDIT you missed 2010s internet anime culture you had to be there when guys would drink Dr Pepper because of this show and call it the nectar of the gods
Making "predictions" about this list, I figured that with s3 slime was either gonna be off the list, but close, or in the 90s or 80s. It's the best selling ln so I did expect it to make it, but I think with the pacing problems of s3 people were gonna lay off on it a bit, especially with the "big 3" of Isekai all getting new content this year and all of them being great.
@Airs1000 the meetings were actually interesting to me, because it synergizes with the world building and it'll affect alot and there'll be more exciting storyline with that, they just don't see the bigger picture, they all just want a brain dead anime who's all about fights and great characters, but lacks proper execution and story telling, looking at JJK.
@@Rkanegaming-e yeah I agree with you, I love slime, one of the very few shows where I've read ahead. But unfortunately I can say that the manga of that first arc in s3 was way better than the anime. I can't say about ln, though I plan to read that after I finish reading mushoku tensei
8:51 Nah it's not only one, I've seen alot of photos on reddit of weaboos back 10 years ago during season 2 with their Sisters, Mikoto Misaka, Kuroko Shirai, Saten Ruiko, Uiharu Kazari dakimakuras. Maybe some other characters too I've forgotten but they're the only ones I mostly remember cause some are in FilthyFranks videos.
@@szilardenyedi2855 how is it around ds ,aot has great story ,complex and unique characters ,great ost ,great plot twists other than ending its great and a good contender one of the best anime
I agree Death Note's final season is messy, but the first season carries so hard. It's just such a unique and interesting story. I think I'd put in my top 10. My top 1 is Code Geass and my top 2 is Attack on Titan. OPM and Mob would also be top 10.
Of all the thing you can accuse reddit recency bias is not one of them. If you think that list is biased just wait until you see literally any other list on any other website.
When railgun popped up I knew the comment section would flip.glad to see I was right “W” followed by “WTF” followed by “TRASHHHHH” followed by “PEAKKKKK”😂
@@bipolarbroccoliI feel you. I really liked railgun but dropped index after a few episodes. I really don't care about the magic side of the power system and Misaka is just a way more interesting character than toume. Not to mention that her application of her ability is probably the most badass power I have seen in anime.
@@bipolarbroccoli Railgun is way better, because the author had improved a lot in-between when they started writing index, and when they started writing railgun. So yes, railgun is a "spin-off", but it is probably better to look at it as a "story in the same universe". There is a reason that the male lead's scenes are often some of the weaker ones. It is the same thing as when danmachi's author later on wrote the spin-off danmachi sword oratoria. And easily bested the parent work. Basically, spin-offs are usually bad because they are either written by some other writer, or because while it is the original writer it's written as a way to further monetize the IP and not because the writer actually has a story in that universe they want to write, or at least the time to fully commit to making the cashgrab into a real and proper story that can stand alone by its own merits.
Frieten is one of the most consistently brilliant anime of the last decade in basically all respects, but it's not 1 yet. Come on. Talking anime only, how can a story at most 1/5 completed be better than other great anime like FMAB, Steins Gate, AOT, which have a full story? Not saying an incomplete story can't be good (Berserk manga would be the prime example), but Frieren anime is nowhere near Berserk manga in terms of storytelling, characters and themes. It might reach it when it gets close to finishing, or finishes - but for now the two can't be compared, as one is of a much higher quality. But its severe incompleteness means anyone putting it at 1 is afflicted with recency bias to the extreme.
As a massive chainsaw man fan, I’m not sure I’d even have the anime on the list. We just started getting to the good stuff right at the end of the season. The Reze arc onwards is really what makes it special
Almost 15 years on and Steins Gate is still always battling it out in the top three. That says something. I shared your outrage over Perfect Blue but at least happy to see Girls on Tour make the cut. Such a unique story. Never found it to be CGDCT. Bit too sad and philosophical for that. Was hoping to see my fave high-school romance get an honourable mention. Tomo-chan is a Girl really impressed me with its attempt to subvert some of the tropes. Its also one of the only animes that I would recommend the dubbed version. American voice actors are a bit better at channelling a rage filled, violent, hair triggered, tomboy in love.
Sg actually got the most votes for #1 spot, but frieren got more votes of "favourite" anime, so it edged out (i myself gave frieren and sg both a fav vote, but #1 spot vote went to sg, obviously) I heckin love frieren, it deserves attention (which im sure it will get even more after becoming the #1 in reddits list this time haha)
Akira and Nausicaa were not even on the list, Railgun was way too far down. There was no Ranma, no Sailor Moon... it's all one bit bias for recent shows.
Hearing him say Monogatari shouldn't be in the top 10...when he hasn't come even close to the the most recent stuff, which is easily the best anime moments of all time
I’m curious if he’s going to change his mind and say that Re Zero deserves the top 20 placement now that he’s really liking season 3 as well. Personally, if Re Zero season 3 adapts the source material that I think it’s going to, then it’ll easily be in the top 10/even top 5 of all time imo
34:20 Prisma Illya is literally the cutest and funniest anime that has ever been made It's obviously excluded from this list because it would be #1 too hard
Can someone explain to me the hype behind Frieren? Don't get me wrong, it was a really good show with all kinds of different well rounded characters and an interesting plot, like a definite 7-8. However putting it above all these other banger shows just seems so.....weird to me. Like it's just another fantasy adventure show with magic and demons. Maybe my expectations were set really high but I genuinely don't see how everyone thinks this is the new peak anime
I was looking for comment like that so I wouldn't be alone in that statment. Like did I enjoy Frieren? Hell yeah! Do I think it's new gen FMA:B? Absolutely not. But maybe next seasons will make it better. For now I would totally agree with you. The show is 7/8 at max (again even though I enjoyed it)
The hype comes most from the themes of regret and grief, the journey that the characters are leaving knowing better from each other and understanding their feelings, the battles that are incredible (they got better in later arcs), the lessons of not waisting our life that is the only one that we have and to live the best life we can before death comes. It's really great and solid, it's easily the modern classic of today.
here, in my honest opinion. as a person that watch anime since decade ago or more. Did you ever watch anime, to much that you get bored, not only bored because of anime is that bad, but bored because you watch anime for far to long. so, this is my take on frieren, as a person who watch to many anime, frieren give a fresh air in anime for me, i was bored of power fantasy anime, its all just a copy of a copy of another anime... but frieren take a this genre, a power fantasy anime (a fantasy where the main character is overpower) into different level, different feeling. it take the path where other anime didn't go to, and it take the path subtlety. Where most anime is focus on fighting and power, frieren take the mundane task as their main story its a small thing, like just talking to your fellow party, camping or helping villager on your adventure Frieren focus on this thing, while most anime focus on the Grand epic fight. my example? remember Aura the Guillotine fight? Most anime will make this fight epic and will take multiple episode, but no, it just a simple counter and kill aura in less than an episode.... True, some exception can be made, like fren fight with the demon or the last arc where they have frist class mage arc, but even in that arc, frieren take a role model instead, becoming a guide for lawine and kanne. And the last 1st mage exam is one of my favorite, alot of anime will make this the Grand, the final moment but frieren? no, instead it serie who talk to every mage one by one and decide who pass and who not. if you take this anime to the very foundation of it , this anime should not work, the final mage exam is dumb, where the hype? All the episode is just doing a mundane thing, a random thing like helping a herbalist in the woods should not work, its all boring and dumb, i get it But i think, that excactly why i love this anime, this anime is so dumb on anime stand point, it should not work, it just a basic mundane thing, but i think that what make this anime beautiful... A fresh take on anime genre where the story is the journey, not the destination
To be honest, I found Fern and Starks glazing in the Season just purely cringe. Like Fern being "parallel" to Frieren in that one scene where she floating, I found that just absolutely cringe to all hell. Like she has 0 struggles in anything shes doing. Stark does have struggles though and I think he is by far more better written character then Fern is. I think Fern is like one the weakest written characters in Frieren, just absolutely no struggles I was seeing and always making her out to be some kind of inate chosen one where all the famous people look at her like in shock n awe how POWERFUL SHE IS! That's like one of the many things I really did not like Frieren.
I haven't seen it yet but could it be that people who like RPG and D&D etc, find a deeper connection with it, more relatable?? Its on my list but so are a lot of other shows that came out years ago...
@@alexprus7953 season 1 and 2 have the best writing but season 1 DESPERATELY needs a remake because that animation sucks! How can you say "every anime in the top 20 should be a classic" and then agree with Mushoku Tensei, Frieren and Made In Abyss being there? There are ton of classics that deserved a place in the top 100: Gundam, Lupin III, Doraemon, Pokemon, The Rose of Versailles, Akira, Nausicaa, Rocky Joe, Hokuto no Ken, Macross, Captain Tsubasa, Urusei Yatsura, Grave of the Fireflies and probably a lot more
i mean most of the show you mention are either a kid show or have dated pretty poorly. But I agree shows like akira, nausicaa and ashita no joe (my favorite sports manga of all time) should be on list. Also gundam have too many parts to judge it as a whole because how different they are to each other but I was hope to see Char's counterattack on the list as well
made in abyss is a classic. And so is mushoku tensei (the novel). And your list is not a list of classics. It is a list of old stuff (that also happen to be classics - I think. Don't recognize all of them.).
@@feha92 "your list is not a list of classics. It is a list of old stuff (that also happen to be classics) " dude you just contradicted yourself directly
@@hurrdurr7861 Not at all. This is the same kind of thing as "not all that's black is crows, and not all that's crow is black": if you are listing things that are black _and just so happens to only pick ones that are crows,_ you are still not listing crows. And that can be seen in how your choices has a very strong bias (you only ever picked black crows, no white ones etc.), and it is obvious that what you did was list everything black you saw while in a crow-café. And some of the things you listed are only crows when you squint, like that "statue of a black crow" and the "3-year-old toddler's drawing of a black crow", but there were several white crows in the room that had ribbons attached certifying them as "crow'iest crow of the year" that you didn't pick. Does it help if I explicitly added the words "is not a [representative] list of classics" and "that also happens to be classic [albeit extremely low on the ranking of how much something is considered a classic]"
The only way Frieren ends badly is if they get to the end of the continent and it's just a rock with a quote from Himmel that says "The real Himmel was the friends we made along the way".

Idk, personally I really think it's a poor show with badly written characters, so nothing's set in stone y'know ^^'
@Edgelordゼロ Every single one of them, their psychology don't make much sense, they're just edgy for absolutely no reason and they stay that way for the whole time.

Where is Sailor Moon, Vampire Hunter D, Ranma 1/2, Macroos, Samurai X, Magic Knight Rayearth, Sakura Card Captors, Tri-Gun, Gundam Series.
SAO constantly getting asked for was pretty funny ngl

Fair take about Monster honestly. It's definitely a great show, but it's a given that it will not fare too well in a popularity contest.
Out of everything....Modoka Magica being 1 above HxH gave me feelings I didn't know i had. Never even thought about comparing the two lol
Modoka Magica is one of those shows that if you havent seen, you will not understand why its so high. It just seems like some cutesy magical girls show. But, uh... yeah about that....

ps: and yes, I am and will always assert that nearly all mahou shoujo shows are actually just shounen shows (but after madoka often deconstructions of the genre) running a different skin on their gun than usual. Like comparing the s1 finale of sailor moon to the finale of most high-stakes arcs of shounen shows, will show they are nearly identical "nakama powah"-brings-tears-to-eye shows.

While Frieren is amazing, putting an unfinished show on first place is such a reddit moment
and why exactly the story should be finished to be good? let alone the fact that there are a lot anime that aren't finished yet in a shape of anime, some finished in manga(but this is not a manga top, remind you), some aren't finished even in manga. like Made in Abyss is not finished in anime adaptation, Berserk is not finished by any means, Hunter X Hunter, Mushoku Tensei is not finished in anime, One Punch Man, JJK not in anime, One Piece, Chainsaw Man, MHA... those all are not finished as anime or even in manga, but all that bothers you is Frieren being number 1. this anime is just THAT good it doesn't need to be finished to be on top. i may be not watched every anime in the world, but i watched plenty of them, i haven't seen a single one that maintain its quality throught the whole season.
You say it's a reddit moment but Frieren's #1 on almost all anime sites (afaik)
I don't think they collectively decided it's the best, it's just so likable and flawless it's on most people's top 10 and floats higher than things like cowboy bebop or mob psycho that may more people's #1 pick but just doesn't appeal as wide and shows up on less lists.

As a person who’s reading Frieren’s manga, the story is somehow improved over time.
thats insane they manage to make it even better
Haha I only read manga and was confused why that was top 10 let alone top 1, maybe I need to watch it ^^
I still think FMAB is the greatest anime of all time. and let me repeat myself. best ANIME of all time. not best STORY of all time. a manga or light novel doesn't have stuff like osts, colors, animation, voice acting, opening/endings, pacing, sound effects, etc. and I think FMAB does all of this in general better than any other anime. definitely some who do certain aspects better, but FMAB is solid on like all of these fronts, INCLUDING the story aspect, which has multiple sub-aspects to it as well like character designs, lore, world building, power system, politics, action, emotional depth, morality, etc.
It really has. Next seasons gunna be so great...

as someone who hated Slime before I still don't know why it's super low, probably because of the butt hurt they got over those meetings episodes.

The amount of recency bias is atrocious. A lot of anime from early 2000 and even good anime from 2020-2023 were missing.

When railgun popped up I knew the comment section would flip.glad to see I was right
“W” followed by “WTF” followed by “TRASHHHHH” followed by “PEAKKKKK”😂
tbh, i really really enjoyed railgun. went on to index and didnt really liked it
i was like "railgun is the spin off right?"
21:14 I was eating but I look up and saw one thing and I heard words that shouldn’t have been spoken.
Yep, i can imagine how much of a boost it will get after the reze movie+ season 2, where the real "peak fiction" comments come from
Ergo proxy should be there imo
Natsume yuujinchou should have been here. So peak
36:00 There's no way you didnt prewatch, the timing on that was insane haha
Chainsaw Man was so high because a large percentage of fans gave up on MAPPA and read the manga, which has been unbelievably good.
If they keep the same quality it will eventually earn its place and more
No Sword Art Online?! The healing has begun!
No Kaiji? No GTO? What the fuck.
Sg actually got the most votes for #1 spot, but frieren got more votes of "favourite" anime, so it edged out (i myself gave frieren and sg both a fav vote, but #1 spot vote went to sg, obviously)
I heckin love frieren, it deserves attention (which im sure it will get even more after becoming the #1 in reddits list this time haha)

Where most anime is focus on fighting and power, frieren take the mundane task as their main story
its a small thing, like just talking to your fellow party, camping or helping villager on your adventure
Frieren focus on this thing, while most anime focus on the Grand epic fight.
my example? remember Aura the Guillotine fight? Most anime will make this fight epic and will take multiple episode, but no, it just a simple counter and kill aura in less than an episode....
True, some exception can be made, like fren fight with the demon or the last arc where they have frist class mage arc, but even in that arc, frieren take a role model instead, becoming a guide for lawine and kanne.
And the last 1st mage exam is one of my favorite, alot of anime will make this the Grand, the final moment
but frieren? no, instead it serie who talk to every mage one by one and decide who pass and who not.
if you take this anime to the very foundation of it , this anime should not work, the final mage exam is dumb, where the hype? All the episode is just doing a mundane thing, a random thing like helping a herbalist in the woods should not work, its all boring and dumb, i get it
But i think, that excactly why i love this anime, this anime is so dumb on anime stand point, it should not work, it just a basic mundane thing, but i think that what make this anime beautiful...
Its on my list but so are a lot of other shows that came out years ago...
am i losing my mind? i feel like i've already seen this video

How can you say "every anime in the top 20 should be a classic" and then agree with Mushoku Tensei, Frieren and Made In Abyss being there?
There are ton of classics that deserved a place in the top 100: Gundam, Lupin III, Doraemon, Pokemon, The Rose of Versailles, Akira, Nausicaa, Rocky Joe, Hokuto no Ken, Macross, Captain Tsubasa, Urusei Yatsura, Grave of the Fireflies and probably a lot more
Captain Tsubasa mention!!!!! I thought it was only everyone else in the world expect America who knew about this show!!!!
i mean most of the show you mention are either a kid show or have dated pretty poorly.
YuYu Hakusho should have been much higher and why the HELL was Inuyasha not on the list?!?!?!?!
