Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.
About The Expanse Seasons 5:
In different parts of the Solar System, the crew of the Rocinante and their allies confront the sins of their past, while Marco Inaros unleashes an attack that will alter the future of Earth, Mars, the Belt, and the worlds beyond the Ring.

Naomi's message bleeding into the credits was just superb.
Agreed. Those end-credits were engrossing!
@@ranialian8537 i'm freaking out over here having to wait a week now. godamn this season has been deadly with the suspense!
The Naomi arc this season is wonderful. Her performances have been top-notch, and seeing the ways she's being twisted around and now used as bait is all the more haunting for it.
@@ZeZwede I'm right there with you!
I personally had chills as her manipulated message continued to play.
So glad you explained the marks. It makes perfect sense now, but I was a bit confused in the moment. But I'm also glad you presented it the way you did in the show. I appreciate that you appreciate the intelligence of your audience and don't dumb things down.
It's not boring, I could sit listening to this for hours. Truth be told I kinda wish they'd go back and cover off the earlier seasons with more of this..
Oh yeah, totally, a flashback to previous seasons would be great. I hope they do a ride through entire series at some point.
Agreed. Do it, guys!
Agreed!
They are! Subscribe to TY and that guy pod cast.
it's more interesting than the episode was
This is definitely not "boring as s**t" for the fans, Wes. Great stuff, gentlemen!
I agree! It was very interesting to know the authors and the main writers!
Agreed. I am slightly disappointed that they cut stuff out. I want more!
here here!!
I think that was even one of the best episodes ... Well all are great
This was such an amazing interview with James S. A. Corey, I would love more of this!
Without a doubt Dominique Tipper deservers an Emmy for her performance this season!!
Right behind Sonequa Martin Green for the "Michael Burnham Show" where 90% of that shows time centers on Michael. If time given to one character at the expense of all else means "Emmy!", then you badly damage the pace and "rest of the story", and Green would win over Tipper.
@@1chrisford ......We’re talking about The Expanse, why the hell are you talking about Discovery? You’re allowed to hate but don’t bring negativity like this into places where it doesn’t belong.
@@shamsham1229 What you call "negativity" more rational people call "criticism". And the point was writers always run the risk of making a protagonist so perfect in every way that they are no longer credible. The "Mary Sue" syndrome. Worse, once the writers , and the STD writers are the worst, fall so in love with a character they created that they talk producers into giving more and more airtime to their perfect creation, sucking the oxygen out of all other show elements and storylines.
So far, the Expanse has put more time into "The Mother and Child Reunion Drama and all Mom Naomis Personal Tribulations" Space Soap storyline - than the Belter War. The show is far better than STD and I believe they will avoid the STD trap, and have the show finally address the War at some length - but right now, they have given Naomi the Michael Burnham treatment the last two episodes....maybe Woke Politics plays a role, as writers at STD admit they do in character creation and development. But two episodes left, and the payoff cannot be "Forget the Belter War" Filip has learned to Love Her! Love Her! He is sorry he slapped his mom, the most awesome human in the universe!"
@@1chrisford Honestly, IMO, Drummer deserves an Emmy, not so much Dominique, not taking away from her performance this season, it is good, but Drummer and Peaches story arc is what is driving this season. Naomi is going to survive, plot armor ensures this, which means Alex and Bobbi, Holden and the Roci do as well. Drummer and Peaches, on the other hand, hold no such armor, as neither is crucial to the story after this season.
Holy @$#% THIS is the interview with the authors I've been hoping to see for years now! This was so great to see how The Expanse came into being from the very beginning before even the first book was published. Amazing interview!!!! I love seeing Ty and Dan interact to see how their personalities gel and gives us some insight into the energy they put in to writing the books.
You guys are never boring, could listen to you nerding on stuff for hours
Seconded, they barely talked about the episode and it was still fantastic. I'd love for Wes to take question submissions from fans and work some of them into the show. And keep doing this long after the season ends, we LOVE it!
i really loved how the show doesn't use exposition to explain what is going through Naomi's head as she is doing the mental mathematics and engineering in her head to figure out the air pressure, and what she is trying to do and how it all comes together in the end credits. It is an excellent mirror of how it plays out in the book and translates really well what could have just been her talking to no one simply for the sake of the viewer.
Talking just for the viewer would of ruined it for me. Not knowing made it that much more desperate in my mind.
@@meoff7602 Yeah I was trying to figuring out what she did, I'm not good at electronics, so I struggled, but it all came together in the end, and the titles just blew my mind.
Thank you!! People that whine dont get that a show is a visual medium. So her thinking has to be shown by her actions. Visual cues to show her ingenuity. But those people are clearly easily distracted or bored due to certain issues. Glad to see an intelligent comment on an expanse video.
The Expanse is the best hard scfi show in the world and at every step has had to fight forwards to earn the viewers trust ! The Expanse is the Trek for this century with so many stories still to be told !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want it to end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two degrees of separation from Trek!
It owes a lot to BSG and that was an attempt to remake Voyager an give it some bite.
The Orville was more in line with Trek and it's themes, then any of today's trek series. This is head and shoulders different from trek, and from BSG.
Another great episode of Ty and That Guy! Naomi’s struggle in this week’s episode was so amazing and smart. I love that they didn’t have her tell us what she was thinking. They never dumb it down and fans appreciate that. We know she is always the smartest person in the room and we don’t need to know all the science she is working with, we only need to know that SHE knows.
On Star Trek Discovery, the writers ensured every scene made viewers know Michael Burnham was the smartest person in any room. Even if she wasn't in the room, so her insignificant side kicks could whine things could be resolved, if only Michael Burnham appeared.
Two episodes left. We will know soon if the major focus on Naomi, with other clashes and story arcs save maybe Amos being diminished for "More Naomi!!" was a good call or not.
Tracy Metherell “We gotta talk about that ride! Next clue to the case!!
“We gotta talk about that ride! Next clue to the case!!
“We gotta talk about that ride! Next clue to the case!!
I also liked that her improvised radio microphone probably didn't work. All of that desperate effort for nothing.
I am a grown a woman who has never felt anything about a TV duo, but Amos and Clarissa are amazing together. I am only on book 3 of the book series, so not sure where the show is going, but I hope that duo continues.
When they first showed Clarissa in the show, all I could think was "I can't wait to see how it goes when they get to Peaches." They make a great pair in the books, and Nadine and Wes do an equally great job on the show.
It just gets better😊
These aftershows are really good, I always look forward to them. I can't say that about any other show.
still waiting for episode 9 aftershow
Did not figure out Naomi’s chicken scratches on the wall. Learned something.
Cool I'll watch just to find that out.
Same here. I thought she was just keeping track of her progress in case she passed out or did not remember which wires she had already tested.
@@wabba67 I too assumed that she was tracking her progress with whatever it was that she was doing. Not sure I buy that the airlock doors work, but the pumps don't, but I guess a good airlock pump _is_ the sort of thing you strip from a junked ship...
Same here. I like it though, they are leaving things for us to figure it out.
@@CharalamposKoundourakis For sure, it's interesting to see that much screen time taken up by activity that's largely unexplained.
Who got that "..in control" message? I think my mind blew at the end. And we are totally not bored
Yes, my head exploded when I finally understood what she had been working at for so long and so hard. I screamed, “ha! Naomi is such a badass!”
Ty and Wes you guys are doing something great here! There is something about a shared experience that is missing in this day and age due to streaming platforms. Granted it fits out lives better but you do miss out on that "water cooler chat" the next day. Glad to have this aftershow to come and watch each week. Thanks for doing it!
Someone mentioned in an earlier comment this is probably one reason review/react content is so popular. I've been trying to get my family to watch this show, but not much luck so far.
Even tho Wes and Amos are totally different, they both seem like people you'd like to have a beer with.
I think we are lucky he brought him to where it is now. It would have been easy to have another actor play him as a thug, then fall short when the nuances of his personality came through
@@Batmack Absolutely... he is That Guy ;-)
ha, i think Wes' warmth bleeds into Amos' psycho. I love Amos' character and would def want him in my corner, but I don't think I'd want to sit and have a beer with him because one wrong word and he'd kill me lol
That would a scary beer.
I love Wes Chatham's passion and enthusiasm for his work and for Ty and Dan. Great episode gentlemen.
Naomi is a fierce survivor. I have made this comment before. But regarding this conversation. Wow. Wes is asking all of the right questions. Great to meet the guys that got The Expanse off of the ground. I want this game. I need to research that. Very good video. And well done guys. Thank you.
You guys are awesome. Thanks for being so active in the community and creating awesome content! Cheers!
Years ago, an independent bookstore owner in Half Moon Bay who knew what I liked handed me Leviathan Wakes, in hardback because it was pretty new, saying, "Here, buy this! You'll like it!" He was so right. Love all the books (novellas included), love them on Audible also, and love the show. Every book, every season, just gets better and better. I'm really enjoying these aftershows too. Thanks for all the joy.
I love watching and listening to Ty, Wes and Daniel. Thank you for this series, through the books and now the TV show. It is such an amazing story that seems so prescient. Looking forward to the rest of Season 5 and book 9, Leviathan Falls.
So, book 9 is titled Leviathan Falls? How perfect!
The thing with Naomi and the airlock. Is so amazing when I watched the episode yesterday I guess most people don't get it. I read the books and I almost forgot about it. That shows the love of detail they have. That's so amazing. Usually stuff like that such technical details are never taken into account in most sci-fi books and even less in TV or movies. That makes the expanse so f*ing special
Was Cara Gee still pregnant during that yell? Looks labor inducing. Wow, man she gave everything there. Emotions that came from the gut. I feel that scene.
She filmed the whole season pregnant... until the 7th month, I think
She had quite a tummy :D
Thats why she always wear something like a straps, often some gear, bags, etc. They are masking her fat belly :)
Yeah, kinda hope she didn't know the Mary Clayton Gimme Shelter story
Really hope you get Nadine Nicole on the aftershow. Would be great to hear her thoughts too.
There are two episodes left so I hope he gets Nadine and Frankie
Good shout 👏🏻
@@lewhensilvar3521
Perhaps Wes thinks that might be a tad self indulgent.
The acting in this episode was so beautiful. Cara Gee, Olunike Adeliyi as Karal and specially Dominique Tipper were the standouts. 👏👏👏
Naomi has nuclear strenght willpower, many people would give up in her situation

Not bored at all, the more of "The Expanse" content I can get the better!
having the actors on... and talking about their different scenes is also highly enjoyable... getting to watch/listen to “that guy” talking with the authors... was a pleasure
🥰
Can we give Dominique Tipper all of the awards for her performances in 507 and 508? Just absolutely brilliant, tearjerking, and gutwrenching. Absolutely incredible
What makes The Expanse so good is the
Writers
Actors
Directors
Everyone involved in the Production
and the most important this is that all of them gel together to create what they call the perfect storm !
Ty's explanation using Tequila was ON POINT!
That was far away from "boring". I didn't even realised the video was going to end. I was very curious about your writing process.

I adore the show but oh how I love the books too. What a treat this was! Thank you for letting us meet the creators!
I really like you guys chatting so candidly and honestly about the shadow and other stuff. Excellent!
Who else was like wtf is naomi doing most of the episode then at the end u r like OHHH YOU ARE IN CONTROL I GET IT!
That's what I like. In many shows you are waiting for the characters to catch up to a solution the audience has already figured out. This was the opposite.
It's one of those things that's a lot easier to do in the books, where they were able to explain what Naomi's doing by going through the systems she's trying to access and what they do and how she wants to use them. I think they did a fantastic job of getting the gist of what was happening across visually without exposition or narration and it becomes clear by the end of the episode.
@@lorcannagle Yes I agree. Sometimes it is really hard to translate a rich tapestry of words into something visual, however they did it as well as I think they could have, even given the differences between the show and books.
Exactly! That was me!
Every episode of this has been different and every one has been informative and fun. Every one has been worth watching for fans of the series. Thank you.
One thing I like about this series about women is that they are not put forward just to be women but rather because in exceptional situations they are too. The cast for that is just out of this world (Shohreh Aghdashloo is just a simply outstanding actress).
Hearing their writing process was great, I was a bit curious before how that split worked. Lots of insight into book marketing too, and yep can confirm the bright pink lettering against the blue background was genius!

Ty uses a Tequila analogy but ends it by referring to the "good stuff" as Scotch 😂
He probably doesn't like Tequila...
Scotch is an acquired taste, like The Expanse. Tequila is like average Sci-fi, The Expanse is not your average Sci-fi.

I'm a huge fan of the TV series and was surprised to find this aftershow only last week. Now I will joyously dive into past aftershows. But THIS episode is absolutely wonderful, not really for how it relates to this week's 5x08 show (which I have to watch again sober to fully understand), but how it ties together how these creators got here! Thank y'all!!
Why, why, why, are these episodes only 10 minutes long? I know they're longer, but somehow, I get so caught up and it only seems like 10 minutes.
lol
If they release whole season at once, it would be more inclusive to watch. Now, it is torture and why, just to discuss every single episode :) they screwed watching experience for me :(
@@DMX-du9mn You could always wait 10 weeks and then binge it ;) But I know it's nearly impossible to resist once an episode gets out! I'm sorry weekly releases ruin it for you. It's the other way around for me. S4 went by in a flash because I binged the entire thing in one sitting. I'd rather have Prime space it out for me so that the season lasts longer! Though the wait between episodes is indeed ruthless.

Loving it, it's not boring at all....look forward to this as much as the episode itself.
I could listen to them for 3 hours in a row.
Look I love listening to the actors, but this episode with Ty AND Daniel was the best. Love to see the chemistry between the two people who made The Expanse happen, as well as their influences and processes. And thank you to Wes for being our Everyman - asking all the questions that we fans would ask if we had the chance. Also for being so knowledgeable ....
Wes & Ty, thank you so much for bringing this side of the show to the fan's! I can't get enough of the background insight and character development conversations. Thank you!!!!!
Wes, Ty and Daniel - I find your discussions fascinating, perhaps as much as the show itself, thanks for putting these episodes out as its an amazing look behind the scenes.
The fate of naomi is killing me. I need more episodes! Is she gonna die in there? She might. God know's she'll sacrifice herself before letting Alex or Holden get blown up during a rescue attempt.

OMG these episodes are NUTS!. keep up the good work!!!
Loving this show man. This was probably favourite yet. Great having the creators on!
Wes, that was such an interesting interview with Ty and Daniel. I am the same age as those guys and it was fun watching them talk about the tv when they were kids. The Expanse series has me so Hooked that I started reading the books a few months back. I am currently reading Babylon's Ashes here during the 5th season.
Hey, you know something I love about the Expanse? You know how in Star Trek (not the original Star Trek) there could be a huge emergency but the characters weirdly have time to discuss there feelings ad nauseam... like they just stop what they are doing because some character is confused about how someone else is on the rag? Yeah, the Expanse doesn't do that.
Congrats to all for making the best/coolest Science fiction TV series ever.
That "shared experience" is why i love watching youtube reactors so much and i always engage with them.

I was always that RPG guy who saw a movie or TV show and thought it would make a great game. When I heard that The Expanse started as a game, I knew I would love it. One of these days, I would love to see the original "Game Notes" that Ty started with at the convention. That would be a real treasure.
I love hearing authors talk about how books sell these days. The more I hear, the more I understand, the more I figure out what I have to do to get my book seen. Thanks Ty and Dan (and Wes for hosting).
I am so thankful that I had the chance to watch these guys casually discuss, that was so wholesome

Ty is right the show is an advertisement for the books. I got into the Expanse books because of the show. The same thing for Hunger Games, and The Divergent series.
Not Twilight? 😏😉
@@marrenby bleep NO!!!!
@@golfr-kg9ss 😂😂😂🤪
Expanse is quality. Hunger Games is a cheap rip off .. the original and best is Battle Royale. Divergent kind of fell off the rails by the 3rd book and movie. Let's not even start with the Maze Runner or the Giver. You are wise to avoid Twilight, the writing quality on that was similar to a hack Mills and Boon romance book. All these just made me realize how good the writing is in The Expanse and Harry Potter.
@@Stormy77 Twilight was aimed at a different audience, much like the Harry Potter books, they were targeted for adolescents, The Expanse is targeted to a mature audience, the themes are more complex, convoluted, and does not break down things to simplistic good and evil. It explores cause and effect to a greater degree, and Human values, norms, and motivations. actually, twilight, harry potter, maze runner, hunger games, divergent all were adolescent reading, and very simplistic in the themes. Thomas Covenant they are not.
It is a pleasure to know the little insight from the writers. Thanks
