I have a degree in robotics, so I feel like I have a smidge of authority when I say that your work, attention to detail and explanations are just perfect. You should feel immensely proud of what you achieved with this project, and I hope it brings you the attention and funding your talented self deserves.
Hire him so he won't rely on youtube income
As someone who does not want to build my own, I very much enjoyed the hypnotic assembly animations.
As someone who does want one I enjoyed the series as well
I don't know what I'll use it for.. But I know I want one
Will, I’ve been watching this project for 6 years, and I’m just blown away by the maturity of this hand you’re presenting here.
Do you remember your hand wired boards, and telepresence glove phase? This is just something else now!!!
I earnestly cannot wait to see what the community does to support this!
My only immediate suggestions would be if the servos don't have enough torque to cause damage then use a script to drive them to end travel and use the pot readback to calibrate the end positions, if the servos do have enough torque to cause damage then you'd either need to run them very slowly or the better solution would be to have current sensors on the servo to identify when it hits end travel before damage occurs. I'm not sure if you're already tapping into the pot readbacks but it's a good idea to do so anyway as you can use that to automatically detect some faults, and it's a good practice to recalibrate occasionally to account for slip and wear. Im not sure if it's necessary but I've seen designs where the tendons had slack lines bridged with springs to create a bit of give in the joints for gripping delicate objects, rather than that you could also use a spring gear like assembly between the servo and the pully head (i.e. there would be a spring and hardstop between the servo and pully to allow some give if not at the end of the travel).
You just squeezed tons of arduous effort into a simple 15 minutes video. Bravo! This had to be a massive project!
Instruction unclear, chopped off my arm and can't replace now
Have you considered adding an option for patterns where you keep the hand on a constant livestream so that coders can test their written arduino code on it and see the results? That way, people who have a CS background can get involved in the project without having to go through the insane amount of construction.
As someone whose hands are starting to fail this project couldn't have come at a better time, I'm really impressed with the wrist mechanism but don't like the fingers. Very inspiring, well done.
I'd Say that the wrist and thumb movements are the most accurate because most people can't usually figure out the thumb and the wrist is usually made the point of rotation of the hand instead of the bend, basically removing a lot of the functionality, The rotation comes from about a 3rd or half of the forearm. Good Job 👍
I found your channel years ago when working on a similar hand intended as a proof of concept for a prosthetic. It was very helpful at the time to use as inspiration and allowed me to get through some difficult problems with that project.
It is very nice to see your hand finally open to the world, I think you did such and amazing job and you are a very big inspiration, not only for the incredible results but for the determination you show to work on it. I hope there is much more to come.
Wow Will! UA-cam is not worthy of this level of quality. Seriously, incredible work. The project itself, and the work you put into the video. I'd love to make one, but this is WAY over my head. Still very fun and inspiring to watch you do it, and I am sure elements of what I learned from it will help solve issues with my own projects by expanding my knowledge.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I did a similar project with an InMoov arm! Wow is this one MUCH more complex and detailed. The sheer amount of effort you put into this project is evident and commendable. Thanks for the video and the great animations!
I have been watching your channel for some time now. I am glad to see the progress you have made in building something truly outstanding.
Very nice. I’ve been watching your videos for a while. This is great stuff. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us.
I will attempt this on the holidays! Thanks for all your hard work
Yo sick love to see someone actually support the community building their own like this.
Will, it's so cool. I'm very glad that you are still working on this Holy hand!
Amazing material! I'm looking forward to seeing more!
congrats bro for reaching 100k subscribers I have been interested in robotics and was working on my own robotics hand, I needed some inspiration and stumbled upon your channel. I saw how talented you were and subscribed!
IVE BEEN WAITING!! Thank you so much for sharing your incredible work and development witht the community! Truly a service!!
Amazing work! Your work is a huge inspiration and omg! As an engineer and a blender user myself, I kinda understand the work that went into those blender exploded view animations, the time it takes to deal with stupid CAD to STLs, origin points, etc… and i can only imagine the shear number of revisions, failures, decisions, roadblocks… just, hands down, one of the most impressive projects by an individual creator!
I've started a similar (yet more simplified) project for my study and it's really inspiring and motivating to see how this amazing model is designed and functions! Thank you so much for sharing and good luck
I like the way you visualized everything so that it depicts exactly how everything is put together 👍
As someone who is following the hand, this kind of semi conclusion makes perfect sense.. May be someone with more resources can build upon to take it to next version
Wonderful work and thanks for sharing!
8:17 In Blender, there are different quaternion and Euler presets you can select when rotating parts for animations. Press the N key, or bring up your side bar. In the Transform sub panel, under rotation there should be a drop down menu. This should adjust and help your Blender animations.
Absolutely incredible work. Thank you for being such a gem to society. I am excited to build this and adapt it to my Centaur robot project.
Thank you so much for all that great content!! That attention is well deserved! 😊
Stuff like this always makes me want to get into robotics 😯
Have been waiting and rooting for this Projekt for years now 🎉 i love it ❤
I've been following this project for years. I may finally be in a position to build one of these when the semester ends and I start working I will definitely get on this
You are an angel. Thank you for uploading this video.
THANK YOU FOR SPECIFYING THE SCREWS.
It will prevent some people getting screwed :)
Watching this before I could ever think of losing my hand. It look so amazing!
Dude this looks sick!
Amazing work!!!
Hey Will ! It was amazing seeing your progress all those years and the hard work you put into your projects, videos and your job. I wanted to build this so I had to ask which wires and connector are you using for the potentiometer ?
Thank you!
Hat down!! no words needed
Welcome back Will
Excellent!
that thing's a beaut
The hand design looks really cool i might print it and not do the electronics for decoration.
INCREDIBLE
It’s probably the most articulated animatronic version of a human hand I’ve seen. It would be cool to test it to its limits in terms of speed and weight bearing to try to enhance it. (Edited for spelling)
This looks inspiring! Can you please post renders or photos of your bionic hand?
Like the meme, This is beautiful SquarePants SpongeBob!!!
Awesome work you make me inspire more and more
Oh my glob… amazing :3
I can't wait till bionic hands are less complicated, customizable, and have the grip strength of a normal hand OR STRONGER!
The complexity isn't likely to get too much better until way stronger micro servo motors are made, but the human hand and wrist are some of the most complex parts of the human body mechanically speaking. This design could likely have near to or normal human strength if the right materials are used, the pulley system he has gives the ability to greatly adjust the strength without increasing the strain on the motors so much they burn out. I'm very happy to see someone working towards building a much more usable and accurate prosthetic though =D
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the Blessed Machine.
Welcome back Will 1:28
Be me: binging cosplay videos
UA-cam: "Build bionic hands!"
Me: Oh, scifi cosplay!
Reality: This Mo-Fo pulling a Tony Stark, in a shed, with janky supplies.
Hello. I think you will be able to do this: to get through the “uncanny valley” effect, I think it would be interesting to make a robotic face that would repeat a person’s physiognomy via video communication (Skype). Creating this would be a big step towards social robotization. And add AI-module will approve this
I am very curious about the 3D vedio tools!!!! it is so nice and smooth!
Duran Duran- INVISIBLE
from the moment i understood the weakness of my flesh......
do you think you'll use a finer print for the structure pieces? like the metacarpals and the knuckles?
Wow 🎉
So thats how Howard did it...
considered using light springs to straighten the fingers?
Interesting
Is there a chart of the different hand designs, similar to the humanoid ability chart maintained by Herbert Ong and Scott Walter?
finally
It would be great to have one for sign language translation
I would like to ask, but don't really expect an answer. I know that this whole project is an attempt to bring this as close to a biomimetic hand and wrist as possible, and to look as close to human as mechanically possible with our current tech capabilities. What are your thoughts on making something that is less human, still biomimetic, but more alien, such as the right arm of the orokin from Warframe?
❤
A little new to this chammel why do you use servo motors if you remove everything that makes them servo motors?
the title sounds like a meme aint no way its a full how to video 😮😮
now all we need is a way to control it as if it were my own hand... and a saw
After this, now I can sell the world.
couldn't each finger have one servo?
Oh hey, one more thing...I build a similar thing in Unity sending stuff to a Flask server and from there to serial...this would eliminate the need for the paid plugin! Hit me up if you need any info or the code!
So...after you're done building a hand, can you program it to build another hand?
May I ask which software you used to create the assembly animation?
GudJobb 🎉
Built a full Inmoov arm-shoulder about a week ago to use on a Jetson Orin Nano(which took me a full week until this morning to get flashing). I'm gonna have a shelf full of AI controlled android arms soon lol.
This is easily my favorite project to watch. Can't wait to see what people do with this one
You must have some Irish in ya. You've some Irish head on ya! 🙂
Yes.... I am a COG from today
It is not on github?
What is GitHub?
Will, I have an idea to add skin transduced pressure and feel sensors, if you are interested please contact me! ( i cant develop it alone)
What do you want the feel sensors to do that the pressure sensors can't do?
The discord invite wont work : (
There is a reason for being termed dis-cord.
soon someone will creat the world on GEN Z
Destroy it, before skynet finds it!. Lol
The first step to start is that you need money, Tons of money.
Do JLCPCB or any of their many competitors offer a more suitable server, which requires less adaptation?
Could they not offer a better design for this particular process?
3rd
Kenshi anyone..?
Dude grow up, you are not in the kids section any more, you are in the 100K adult club now. You need to get away from childish things like plastic printers and advance into 3D metal printing... :D :D :D
Disclaimer, a lot of you nerds don´t have any sense of humour so just to elaborate, this was a joke...
Thanks for clearing it up. Else I was going to build a titanium prosthetics embedded with space-age alloys, fire-resistant aerogel, exoskeleton that could lift such heavyweight champ, and robust reality grasping algorithms for those five digits.
*WHAT?!*
This is incredible. _New subscriber, fo sho!_
My hand is way better and more sophisticated than your hand.
Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.
