If you haven’t watched the video make sure to watch it all the way through. I discuss how animal jam has changed as a game. How they use gambling and addictive techniques in their in game purchases to manipulate people. And at the very end, go over ways to help anyone who is currently struggling with gambling on animal jam.
This video is meant to be an awareness on animal jams highly addictive gambling in the game. And not shame anyone who does spend tons of money on the game, but instead help them. 💜
$9k is almost the amount we spent to remodel our kitchen.... good Lord
whales are pretty much the only things keeping a lot of these older mmos alive
I've probably spent like 500 dollars over 7 years on animal jam... I started the game at 7-8 years old and I didnt understand money's value, so I'd ask for sapphires for my birthday and membership.
I don't spend anything and I feel bad for my dad because until I got an allowance HE paid for it !!
I told him and he said "I know- but you were so little and it really wasn't that much because it was was worth seeing you be happy" HES SUCH A GREAT DUDE ;_;
2:44 btw one way to get a ton of sapphires without spending money (i have an aunt who plays animal jam and she went to college to learn about finances or something like that) and she has literally 1million sapphires the way she gets sapphires is just buying a ton of the popular pets like the cows, raccoons, lucky ducks, and snow gliders when they are on sale (35 sapphires) waiting a while for them to be worth more and shes only been playing since 2020
Honestly that's smart asf
I get sapphires by creating a new account and then completing the mini game rewards for sapphires and then buy some random rubbish item from my shop
I just buy and resell items and pets as worths fluctuate- xd
I'm an adult player with a job and stuff so every now and then I buy 15 wish coins, sell them for 900 saphs each in my shop and they all sell within 1-5 minutes. quick and easy way to have absolute thousands of saphs for no where near the price it would cost to buy a bunch of saph packs from the store
@@CleoDragoni normally do touch pool and a puppy’s tale when i do that
Honestly, I stopped playing because everything was so expensive
same
Me too. I lost interest because you could just buy items instead of trading, so it made trading less exciting for me. There are fewer items in the shop. It barely gets new items, and when it does, it's membership (bruh).
@@Tesseract_27That’s the reason I quit too, they made it a pay to win kind of game:(
same and because nobody wanna talk abt anything besides getting items and really weird stuff i didnt know what to say to them anymore and id just get ignored 😭
@@okurisuzume fr
3:31 omg !
The guest jammer changing colors and sleeping next to you is so cute 😭💜
Fr😭
I know I saw my screen recording afterwards and it was so sweet
It really is we don't deserve the sweetness of guest jammers :'3
Like I've encountered the sweetest guest jammers & ssgarrthhuaaw they are just so sweet 🥲
@BellaLasher fr 😭😭
They are prob js little kids exploring the game which is adorable💜💜
@The_Real_Colette
Just the other day I was just doing a mission the nocturnal one
& I was struggling with getting a moth
& One just came up to me & lied down & watched intrigued with what I was doing
🥺 Even though I missed the moth & it despawned so they were just watching me fail a moth
It was still adorable😭🩵
The developers really said “Let’s go gambling!”
..this is why we don’t encourage people to go gambling.
I really hate how Animal Jam doesn’t even have percentages for stuff like colors, size or effects. For some reason they’re there when using crafting crystals but not when getting fantasy pets, which is worse because crafting crystals are cheap most of the time so you don’t worry about spending REAL money on the game. Discounting MyShops and trading, the only way to get wish coins is through real money.
Also… the new rewish update. Ever since that update came out, mystic pets have pretty much doubled in price, leading to more people having to buy more wish coins. You sacrifice 5 pets for a single pet in HOPES that you get good colors or effects. Most of the time you are likely to get very bad colors, since 5 pets = 1 wish coin… except that INSTEAD of giving you a wish coin it straight up gives you the pet.
This also applies to party pots, which are even HIGHER in demand since they are not on shops any more. You have the chance to get a bowtie or forest, or you can get flip flops and carrot necklaces
Honestly, I think this game needs to be sued. It's ridiculous that Genshin Impact (a foreign company) has a lawsuit from the US government (which they deserve btw) but not animal jam which is arguably worse. Like I stopped paying Genshin a year ago, but from what I know of other games and my own experience, Genshin is somehow better than most games with gambling systems, and it isn't explicitly targeting kids the way animal jam is. Like it's very possible (probable even) that Genshin is being targeted because they're Chinese (the wrong reason to target them), but I think animal jam needs to be sued even more than most games due to it targeting young kids. Like genuinely AJ has the WORST gambling mechanics I have ever encountered and it targets YOUNG KIDS (granted I don't play a ton of games with gacha systems, but you get the point). Maybe what we need is a campaign to report AJHQ to the US government or something idk, but something needs to be done.
A lot of these games are trying to market to their older, long lasting player base, while making new players feel a crushing urge to keep up. they are not just marketing towards kids, but to nostalgic adults who have spent too many years playing this game to back out now.
What I find annoying is that you can’t buy diamonds for Classic anymore.
And unless you have membership that you bought ON MOBILE, you have a very very VERY low chance of getting diamonds on the non member spin.
Like it’s ridiculous because jammers are selling items in their shops for more than 200 Diamonds.
*It’s insanity*
Wait I didn’t know that, you can’t buy Diamonds on classic?! That’s insane
You literally can buy diamonds still?? Took me 10 seconds to check 😭
@@Kris-wy1lc I don’t go on classic much so I wasn’t gonna go check, thanks for clarifying lol
you CAN buy diamonds
however
I think you have to do it from the website instead of in game
so that's probably why you didn't know
I swear- underage gambling is illegal (at least in America) Animal Jam is trying to speedrun getting sued 🖐😭
dude i played animal jam classic back in 2017,,, even back then the classism/paywall was insane. i cannot image how toxic animal jam is WITH gambling
I also used to be very addictive to this game abt 2 years ago, hate to admit it but I’ve spent over 3k on the game and it’s scary how fast you can get sucked into everything
Tip: get your Dinos/mythicals from the explorer! The colors are already set in stone and you can conceptualize how many you are actually buying through the time and effort of searching you put in. It may be people’s “unwanted” animals, but if you really look, trust me, you’ll find a lot of really pretty ones 😅 I found my main avatar (a dragon) this way. I just wish that there was a way to sort them by feature/rarity in the explorer lol it would make things so much easier.
Just wanted to clarify I don’t agree with the gambling being added in the first place, and it is unfortunate that the my shop kinda relies on people gambling for animals and then not liking them 🫤 The my shop might just be a better option to help people get out of the direct-money-spending addiction
Yess! I found a really cute griffin from a my shop and it’s one of my favorites animals!
capitalism at it's finest
I'm a cookie run kingdom player (former animal jammer) and the gacha is gambling as well, you gamble for cookies (i'll admit, I was gambling in the crk gacha sometimes to get a cookie that I'm a HUGE simp for)
I think I know which cookie you're talking Abt... ( No offense)
@Spork_Dragonzzzz tell me >:3
Tbhh, I agree with you as well as a CRK player 🙏
How do yall simp for cookies
Are you referring to shadow milk 👁️
The wishing coins are literally gambling and we can get ugly pets 😢
The dinosaurs are fine, they might be ugly but dont have different features
Not gonna lie I just deleted Animaljam a day or two ago to step back and take a big break when my grandma received the bank statement in the mail. I didn’t go into major debt or anything, but I did go into some debt over this game. I’ve also been guilty of spending over $900. I need to step back, so that’s what I did. It’s addictive.
@@Sweet_toothrot good on you for taking a step back from animal jam. I know it’s very hard, but I’m proud to hear that.
i can understand how it would be hard for someone to just stop playing as well- i dont want to delete apps on my phone that i just spent like $5 on for some deal, i can imagine why someone would not want to just stop playing a game were they spent 9K. It would feel like a waste if they just stopped playing
moonkitti pfp :0
I've probably spent 400€ (410 USD) at most on animal jam from when I started playing it, but 9.000?!!?! Best wishes to this person recovering from their gambling addiction
I'm really glad you made this video. I'm currently trying to work on my spending habits (Especially with animal jam) and honestly I felt very alone and ashamed because I knew that I shouldn't spend so much money on the game, but it's difficult to stop. This christmas I got 60 dollars worth of steam gift cards and I spent it ALL on animal jam, and I felt horrible once I realized i used all of that up. And I don't even want to know how much I've spent from my own money. I am getting better at controlling myself when it comes to spending though and my heart goes out to the person mentioned in this video, I hope they are able to recover financially and mentally. I love this game but gosh... I wish I didn't spend so much money on it sometimes.
Ive probably spent like 500 dollars on it between now and 2015…… but thats like 10 years worth of playing and 500 is only enough to go to the grocery store like 3 times
i love your name lol, its unreleted to the topic but im sure you can guess why im replying
bro same but like an 8 year difference cuz i was young and got sapphires for my birthday a lot. i dont buy anything anymore, as the game has been declining in fun-ness :(
As someone with no membership, getting new animals is quite hard. So many things are locked behind a monthly paywall, it's insane. I have an item I cannot use because I don't have membership...
Honestly that’s just sad 😭😭
9,000 dollars is unreal amount…
Totally agree. Maybe someone won a lottery and wanted to do crazy things for fun? Not a good sign of that were the case.
i have only made one purchase in this game, the glacier superbox, and i was unimpressed
then they decided they didn't like the username "Thequackinator" and without providing an explaination, forced me to change it, so out of protest, i've never spent a penny on this game since.
it sucks because i love the game, and the artists who work on it are great, but WildWorks does not deserve to have this game, they've proven time and time again for a multitude reasons that at best, they're wrecklessly negligent. Their support is also utterly useless (as my above paragraph shows). I wish this game still had an educational focus, because even as an adult, i learned stuff from the loading screen "did you know" things
The period last year where party potions were being sold was clearly super unhealthy for the game and the community and i hope nothing like that happens again.
It honestly makes me feel good that I quit the game during the "Drama Llama" era because of how badly things have changed. Thank you for putting out this video; I had no idea things went even worse for Animal Jam.
And it's interesting to think that animal jams premium shop still exists if this is happening.. getting greedy, animal jam? Or just showing more of it
true. i spent about $12,000 on animaljam i got abt 7,000 back in taxes and spent most of it on animal jam and every paycheck (i usually get righly 1400 a paycheck, every time i soend 500 or more on wish coins.. oops
peobably more than 12000 actually...
After the whole Fer.Al chaos, Wildworks has really made their games one big cash grab.
I played AJ Classic when it came out in 2010, and played it all the way up till 2020.
I know it won’t mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but personally, after the whole Fer.Al thing, I think I’ll just stick to my nostalgia. No more gameplay for me.
You’re right about how addictive the gambling in the game is i spent like 100 dollars on coins after the griffins came out luckily i got a legendary darkside griffin eventually so i was able to quit buying more but i know not everyone can stop after they win something big
I had a friend multiple years ago that said they spent around 8k JUST on sapphires. (Obvi it could be more, it could be less idk them anymore..) but it’s insane the amount of money that people spend on this game. even just like 50 dollars imo I feel is a ton for the temporary dopamine you’ll get from pixelated things. Ajhq rly got people in a chokehold for this stuff atp, it’s so sad to see 😔☹️
I've played animal jam classic since 2012, and play wild since 2015, and I think i've spent about $110 USD on in game purchases. This is not including the money i've shelled out for membership over the years (but I don't feel like that counts because having a subscription to animal jam costs the same as a Netflix subscription, and people aren't adding up all the money they've spent on Netflix over the years). 2024 was the worst year for me, prior to 2024 I spent maybe $15 at the most from 2015-2023. I guess I justify it with reminding myself I am an adult with adult money and spending $10 on a superbox every once in awhile is not breaking the bank for me, and I am fortunate for that. $9,000 dollars in two months is not something I feel can be justified in any way shape or form.
im glad you made a video for this because I rarely see the ramp up in the gambling aspect of animal jam talked about and it’s INSANE. It’s so disappointing to see wildworks or whatever company that bought animal jam out pumping out all this paywalled nonsense which accumulate to some extra pixels and then they paywall features in the game that could’ve been free or obtainable through actually playing their game. I started animal jam in 2011 and joined play wild when it launched, It’s completely pay to win to now, nothing like animal jams in the 2010s and I can see why people are quitting, I honestly wish I did before they could’ve took my money 😭
im pretty new the to the animal jam community but ive always known about the gambling. i used to play animal jam when i was three but my parents got rid of animal jam for this reason. my mom just let me start playing it again a few days ago and the gambling has not changed🕶
I FORGOT THIS GAME EXISTED BRO
I am surpised to hear how much animal jam has changed. I have watched videos on the sidelines about all the bundles that cost real money, i could see myself if i was still into Animal jam, i probably would also be spending money on the bundles because i used to be obbessed with animal jam classic, and then they only had memberships, but i am sure if i played animal jam play wild i would be spending money on the bundles and be gambling.
Aaah🤗 the sweet old memories of 2018-2021 Animal jam pw🌿
Also, anyone agree with me?🌲 Okay, so it took months of remains because animal jam was working on the new crystal...um...place 👀, whatever, its the new territory where you can use wish-tokens, I feel as its disappointing that animal jam spent so much time on something that the only way someone can enjoy, is to buy wish tokens and become a ✨Unicorn✨
Or a ✨dragon or a griffin, what-not,
I miss the old aj, I have so many memories, I may quit, I'm almost to lvl 40 but Animal jam is getting on my nerves even though I love the game.
Thanks Leamon, for pointing this out, this needs more awareness.
*month's of reskins
NOT REMAINS!!🔥
FRRR
i’ve spent sooo much on this game throughout the decade i’ve played, i’m rlly grateful that you can get membership w play wild so i can reuse the money i spent 💀
If only this person was only attached to the game in a social way with friends than to gamble just like the game was intended before, but we all know what Animal Jam has become. The sad part is that this is the only way to give revenue at AJHQ.
Thank goodness someone said it. I was just about to talk about this. All of this. Even the non-gambling updates are weird because of the loss of the main concept artist and music designer. It's not Animal Jam anymore. It just isn't.
10 dollars a month on ajpw for membership
$120 spent a year.
If you play the game for 4 years, you spend 4,800 dollars.
Money could deffo be spent in more useful ways.
I get plenty for free just by staying active on membership each month.
That's 480 dollars not 4,800 dollars. I got scared for a sec 😭
I think ive spent a max of 120$ on aj over a span of 10 years
honestly, its crazy how they have gambling in a kids game. its almost too pay to win at this point.
I agree, gambling should be banned in kids games all together
Im playing animal jam for about 5 years. Just i can only say: not donation is hard right now in game. I just find how to avoid purchasing: buy mythical animals or something what i want to get in account if it costs real money buying in players shops. And only i want to say animal jam now is more greedy than Genshin impact, just because in Genshin we can get character with guaranty, or early. On animal jam how many pet tokens i pull to get normall pet zebra: a lot, but im not donating or how i will be saying in another game: im f2p. Animal jam for me still stay an interesting game but this is big problem for me and over players
Easier way to get saphires is just this:
Make a new acc
Play mini games on it, such as touch pool- the easy ones
Go into your main acc’s den
And buy things from your shop!
I found this helps, rather than spending loads of money on saphires :)
I saw that Reddit post right after it was posted and couldn't believe it! But then, after logging in, I was shocked to see how far the game had fallen, and how many features you had to pay to use --- not pay _sapphires_ to use, but _real_ money. I used to think the devs were money hungry back in 2016. Little did I know the depravity they'd sink to in order to pilfer every last dollar in some poor tween's pocket.
I've been open about having BPD in the community, but I have impulsive issues which include spending. I am so grateful my parents took over my funds and such, which may seem weird for a 20 year old but it helps so much. It is good to have people look after you when it comes to these things.
It’s really sad to know people are addicted to the game and spending so much money. I hope they can find other games with less of the gambling stuff. I love ur videos leamon!
Still way better than prodigy which for some awful reason its still used in schools. I remember my parents spending hours trying to cancel the membership, but they purposely made it so it was nearly impossible to cancel. That game is so sketchy and shouldnt be used in schools tbh. Almost everything had some form of paywall, and I don't think I really learned anything from that stupid game. I genuinely hate it so much because how well its doing and schools, plus its a rip-off of pokemon. Sorry for going on a rant about prodigy in a animal jam comment section, but I just need to tell someone it makes me so upset
Wow that game still exists? I haven't played that in like 7 years or something. I do kinda remember an annoying paywall problem, but honestly I'm kinda surprised it's still around. I never realized it was popular at all, i thought it was some cheap obscure random game not many people knew about.
Prodigy?? God, I loved Prodigy.
people still use the game in schools? that is surpising to hear i remember playing it a few years ago when i was in elementary school
but yeah, i remember how everything good was memebership. I didnt really care at first, but it was hard to do a lot without owning a membership
Its funny I remember playing it normally, and then my friend found a way to get us to lvl faster by making the lvl of the creatures higher and stuff even without membership we had fun XD
I recently logged into my old prodigy account from middle school and I remember membership was a thing but now there’s like three different tiers of membership called core plus and ultra and it will not let you forget in game because the ad for it pops up frequently! I know they need to make money but that method of advertising quickly becomes frustrating.
I honestly never took the time to really think about it, this was a real eye opener to me.
I've bought sapphires to buy the pet adoption tokens, I'd estimate around 200 tokens, (not even counting in the ones I bought from using the sapphires I got from selling my items) and it terrified me
I’ve been playing since 5th grade. I’m now 22 and even I get nauseous or grossed out when I think about how much money I’ve spent over the years on this game. I grew up on classic. I remember when playwild came out thinking it was a cute lil game but it would never outdo the original but seeing how they just pivot changed from the OG game that literally made Animal jam what it is to this day. Then all of a sudden it’s “oh playwild is animal jam” very disrespectful and desperate on there part honestly.
im glad Pokémon is my all time favourite, tho a cash grab it has no gambling system for money tho it can be a gamble without money for a pokemon with good stats and moveset :,) but you can still beat the game with bad stats as i don't do battles via enternet and focus on good stats as i still have my good strategy's like ash
I’ve spend like $8,000 on ajpw and Ajc but between 2012 and 2025 I only buy what I want !
I’ve been watching you since 2019 and you inspired me to log back into my old account. Thank u for serving informational content abt the game thru your videos :)
Back then if you told someone they would add dragons into animal jam you'd be a laughingstock
This is how I expanded and fixed Puppy In My Pocket series in my Puppy In My Pocket fanfiction series 💖🐾💛🐾🧡🐾
1) animal characters live in the same world as human characters
2) all of the animal characters are small and cute (all of the animal characters are the same size as each other (all of them are 31.75 cm tall), plus all of them have large anime eyes and human like facial expressiveness, the only thing that differentiates them is their animal species, as there are both well known species and lesser known species, plus there are more than just one member of the species)
3) all of the girl characters have the same extreme hourglass figure as each other and the exact same cup size as each (all of the girls have 35-25-35 bust-waist-hip ratio and the C cup size, the only things that differentiate them are hair colors, eye colors, skin colors, hairstyles and clothings)
4) all of the boy characters have the same body type as each other (all of the boys have 35-25-24 bust-waist-hip ratio and lean athletic build with medium sized defined muscles, the only things that differentiate them are hair colors, eye colors, skin colors, hairstyles and clothings)
5) all of the characters that are animalistic deities in the original versions of their stories are now just as humanoid as the other characters (the only things hinting at their animal inspiration are their hairstyles that look like attributes of animals they are based on, for example, Bastet has buns that look like cat ears and a braid that looks like a cat tail)

I hv spent like £200 ish on aj and its what helped me get rich. When I saw how much I had spent I stopped buying things in aj for real money. It was when the wish coins first came out in the shop. 💀
I feel like we all forget that this is also a KIDS game personally for me they seems to be taking advantage of their young players as well and it makes me dislike animal jam further because this is a company they know what they are doing
I miss it when animals were 150 sapphires, and new items like a rainbow raccoon tail wasn't MONEY. And they didn't have fantasy pets or dinosaurs, where kids could get stressed over getting it. The redesigns prove they are getting desperate.
Wildworks or (animal jam) has always gambled with their audience. They did it during their game Feral, by constantly having pay to play animals in game and a different form of membership. Of course they ended up scamming everyone and shutting the game down without telling the paying player base until it was too late.
I’m someone who has only ever spent 15 dollars on the game by accident, but I have a friends who has spend probably a couple hundred over the years, and she is someone who loves to give, and I am guilty of receiving many money costing items as we have been friends for years, hence how I have maybe 10 mythical animals, but recently I have been trying to trade and buy the items that cost real money instead.
This reminds me of this game called evony that my mom and her husband is addicted to, it’s also a pay to win game. If you think 9k is Bad imagine this, people will spend 50k in a month just to win a battle
I feel like if animal jam wasn't sort of niche, it'd get into some sort of legal trouble. Gambling is usually explicitly stated as an 18+ activity, and animal jam heavily markets itself as a kids game to the point where it's impossible to make your account and have it see you as an adult.
I have never paid money on animal jam, but I saved up to 100k sapphires and then spent them all on wishing coins, only to get 100 mostly bad unicorns (this was before the dragons and griffins came)
as someone that's struggling with mental health atm... yeah it's not good. AJ is the number one thing I feel the need to impulse buy from when I'm in my lowest moments recently. I had to take a break for a month or two because I knew as soon as I opened the game I'd be tempted to buy something again. I'm trying hard to not give in but I think I'm really susceptible to gambling addiction or something. i need to write myself a note or something that says DONT BUY THINGS ON AJ 😭
9000? i’ve only spent like 35 dollars
Honestly, I personally think the items are cool, but I wouldn’t buy them. I would probably just use my sapphires and buy any off the explorer. But wasting money that aren’t even fair prices are just getting out of hand for animal jam. The gambling techniques are getting really bad, as most of my buddies on animal jam have the items for money and said they bought it with actual money. I think animal jam should probably stop but I get they need money for the game… especially the wishing coins.. they’re so overpriced
My friend makes tons of sapphires by getting tins of phantom coins and using them to buy super saphire potions and then selling them for like 65 saphs each- I make them by selling masterpieces and commissions
I’ve truly lost interest in this game and I dislike by the fact the prices have increased 😔 I think I’ll be quitting this game soon .
I remember wasting sapphires on so many things I didn’t need like pet tokens
I used to play Classic Animal Jam when I was young. The memberships and Saphires or Gems as I recall were addicting enough. they would make you EAGER to get some, to have the best animals and the best items on the game and what not. It wasn't as ugly as it seems to be nowdays. I had quit the franchise a decade ago, around the same time the mobile game had come out, due to not being so happy with sudden changes, a new game wasn't needed in my eyes. I'm glad i'm not playing the game anymore. I'm happy I can always say Animal Jam was part of my childhood, and how it built a lot of my many interests, but its sad to see its become money greedy. They know what they are doing, obviously, its their intention to add harmful practices like this, like many more games across the internet.
This is out of control and ridiculous, seeing this beloved game just turn to greed like so many others.. You can buy a chocolate bar and it would be better for you than a virtual item.. Things like these are insane, I am so sick of fun games turning into addictions :c What is all this greed about
I think in all my time I’ve probably spent 150. I usually just grinded games like best dressed and the pipe game. I also gambled in buying the cheapest items I could and marked them up 10 percent. I guess I got suckered into gambling too….
Almost a year qutting AJ and haven't watched your content for a long time.. Geez, AJ changed alot when I quit. From a good game to a pay to win game.. I miss the 2022 era (The time I first played AJ)
Edit: Now I play roblox but
everytime I played an
animal sim game like
Feathers family, I got
flashbacks about AJ..
I'll admit I'm a sucker who bought the ark wolf I love it more then the normal one mainly cause the skull mark on it.
i used to be a classic player as a child and i cant believe this is what animal jam has turned into wtf
Well, I spent over 7000 sapphire. I’m really proud of it
i had to stop fully playing animal jam due to it starting to be addictive and ruining my mental heath. i still come back after a few months but im debating on fully stopping and moving all my stuff to my alt
3:46 - OVER 9000 (if you remember it)
I play Animal Jam for years, but I never see someone spend this much. I rarely spend in the game, but it’s still expensive.
Ok honestly I don’t agree, but your reasons are good! I’ve NEVER spent even a cent on animal jam, but I still have a bunch of trendy stuff (dragons, unicorns, etc.) but all I had to do is collect sapphires and go to appondale (forgot its name) and go to “my shop” and buy stuff (example: dragons minimum price is 90 sapphires) again it’s my opinion
This is why I prefer Xenoblade 2's gacha system over Animal Jam. Xenoblade requires only core crystals and even then you don't need to sacrifice real money to even roll the gacha to get a rare Blade because you can literally collect core crystals through your journey to do Blade summons. Only difference between Xenoblade 2 and Animal Jam is that Xenoblade is not marketed toward children (though I would be surprised if children are playing it...). Animal Jam used to be my favorite game but since I got my rare headdress scammed on AJ Classic like an idiot, I didn't think trying to get it back was worth it because of the increase in solids. Thus, I stopped playing. Now I am definitely gonna stop playing because of this gambling stuff to get rare items or pets. Awful.
I just think that them not having listed percentages or a pity rate for the gambling stuff is ridiculous, sigh...
I started playing Animal Jam again about 3 months ago (Fufiling Childhood dreams of being a spiked collar baddie) and bought 2 year membership on the website (WAY better deal than buying on the actual game!) for 120 and I still play and enjoy the game but I actually regret it so bad 💀
almost every month i just hope they can release an update to like fix this whole gambling pay to win gameplay like something similar to national geographic
I play genshin, pjsekai, and honkai star rail, so this honestly doesn’t surprise me at all. The pet gambling is more akin to a Gacha system, where you get something random instead of more money. I grew up playing Animal Jam and honestly, not including the gambling which is crazy for a game aimed at kids and young teens, it has always been bad, especially aj classic. Like you could not have anything without a membership and purchasing diamonds. Ajpw at least has options for non members. Like almost every item is nonmember. And even the purchase stuff (again not including the gambling/gacha that’s absolutely insane) is nowhere near as bad as other kids mmos I played as a kid. I played Star Stable online as a kid and you got a star coin allowance every week but it would take months to save up for a new horse when they were releasing a new breed with like 3-7 different colors every single month. And if you wanted to just buy the star coins for a new horse it cost $30, for a single horse. The gambling should be illegal, but the other in app purchases are actually pretty reasonable compared to classic and other mmos. Especially with declining player numbers and inflation I totally understand having items cost real money and the sapphire prices are really reasonable.
I have my limits and rules on in game purchases. For dinos/mythicals I have a limit of only two animals and nothing more. I plan it out first then once I have my two then Im satisfied. I would just work and get what I want out of it. I may of buy a few bundles in the past even when a box comes. I only bought two boxes that were the glacier and gummy but no eggs. So after gummy I did offer to get an egg since wasting money would not be great. After I got at least one I was satisfied and I had animal balance.
I spent over 100 dollars at this game. Honestly it’s terrible, it feels like they know their players will buy ANYTHING and so they just make crappy things to sell at the premium shop for a crazy price. Like in October, their skeleton fox was TERRIBLE. It’s like they didn’t even try to add anything cool to it unlike the darkside or lightside arctic wolfs but I bet they didn’t even care because they KNOW people will buy it. Also the bags being actual money was so disappointing.
I missed this game. I didn’t know so much changed in animal jam. I remember playing it for a while, but slowly getting bored of it, after I couldn’t do much without money since I was younger and didn’t have money.
I COMPLETELY AGREEE!!! its kind of concerning and scary how much people are spending on the game, and it feels super cash grabby.
hot take, animal jam has always been greedy even in it's classic years. they literally locked almost 80% of playable animals behind membership that you had to pay real money for, until recently. if exploitative mechanics like microtransactions in games were frequently heard of and was common business tactic in their prime years, i'm pretty sure the chances of them hopping onto the trend for bucks would've been pretty high.
tl:dr, i feel like the only reason animal jam didn't dabble into microtransactions previously, is simply because tactics like that weren't really heard of in childrens' games at the time of their golden years.
Im atill so mad i spend 150 sapphires like 5 years ago to buy the tiger and they made it free. What a fucking scam hel
me playing since 2013 ive not spent NEARLY that much...
tho i stopped playing since aroun 2024
Ajpw was way better back in the day, there was no premium shop and ajhq cared about players more (kinda but still better than now) when someone got scammed or hacked they acctually helped and now players can get banned for no reason and later ajhq wont even say why. Because players pay so much money on the game the owners only care about how much they get. I understand that they also need money to run the game but lets be honest, not THAT much money because it will only lead them to care more and more about it than the game and kids safety knowing how many hackers, scammers and even ped*s are in the game and they dont do anything about it
Someone spent 9k on this game... THATS AN AJ GAMBLING OBSESSION
I lost my membership for AJ this year. I play Classic more than Play Wild. I wish they’d update Classic more, but they seem to be too focused on PW. Rarity system is botched, money system is botched, and I’m really sad that it’s come to this this. I may not renew it this time around, but if I do I’m not gonna play it much. I just want it for my old animals so I can revisit. I’ve played since I was 8 and Classic feels way too empty. I’m tired of all the paywall stuff and gambling. I hated Super Boxes when they were added, thought it was something bad waiting to happen. Do an event or something if your fanbase is so invested in your game. Didn’t stop them before.
Edit: How tf did I get a blue one 😭 but I think if anything they need a major revival but find other way to make money. Bring back the toys! Bring back like those merch boxes! Not full your games with micro transactions to the brim
I am guilty of spending close to 500 in one month on sapphires, wish coins, bundles, and a membership q.q I am not proud.. 😔
9k???? my grandads life insurance was 6k 😭 cant imagine spending that much on ANIMAL JAM.
Every new feature is behind a paywall...
