Nice casting you made it look so easy going to try it out next time I go out fishing thank's for sharing your tips on tongariro roll cast big like from me my friend keep safe and tight line's 🎣from Ireland 👌👍
Mistifying to me. Not even clear which direction is downstream. Line is not visible enough to see what you are doing, moves are way too fast to follow. Perhaps some slow motion video would help. My best guess is that it is something like a Perry Poke.
Did you even watch the clip? 😅😅 There's two full sections of slow motion. Not slow enough for ya? But, we get it. It's a tough one to master online, much easier to get out on the river and have a go. What river are you heading to?
...and have a look at this article too. Kyle goes a bit more in depth with what is going on in the clip: www.manictackleproject.com/blogs/manic-fly-fishing-blog/how-to-master-the-tongariro-roll-cast
Someone tell me if I have broken this down correctly into the 4 stages....Assuming the fly is downstream and to the left of the camera......2:08 drag the rod tip from left to right (preparing to change direction) 2:13 rod tip back to the left and cast the fly upstream (to change direction) 2.20 dragging the rod tip in an s shape to (forming the d loop in the water itself) 2.28: Cast upstream with a single haul
@@RealMenReel for me the crucial thing to learn was 2:22 when he straightens everything out. What this does is it raises the leader, tippet, indicator, and fly to the surface of the water. At that crucial moment you need to complete the cast with the haul.
That cast is insane
Well worth learning!
The OGs of singlehand Spey. The tongariro is such a unique fishery

Insanely well done cast !
Watched a video of Herb throwing this cast years back. I've messed around with it and....yes, it is quite effective and not super difficult.
Full credit goes to herb for keeping this cast alive and relevant, and going out of his way to pass on his knowledge!
Great tutorial.
Cheers mate!
Thanks Kyle. Any specific Airflo line you would recommend?
Hi Craig, the new Airflo Tracker line will be ideal. Expected in NZ very soon.
Now if it only had a better name...🤔
Looks pretty similar to a single hand Perry Poke to me.
You're welcome to come try that cast on the Tongariro 😁
better off with full flex fibreglass, cane or older make of carbon rod.
What's your choice then?
