i think they made the black goo in an attempt to try to create another Deacon to get more blood from it. the blood of the Deacon is what they drank out of the small cup to seed life on planets.
In one or the new Comics they go in full detail. In the directors cut, you get to see it before hand in Aliens. They show it to you just in a minor summary. So you understand what was happening.

you forgot to touch on the "other" release of Alien 3 that had the Xeno be born out of one of the Yak-like animals instead of the dog, and the retrieval of the EEV scene is also quite different. Plus, there is the missing scene where they trapped the Alien in the nuclear storage unit but one of the prisoners (I can't remember exactly who but I think it was - Golic) was so infatuate with it that he opened the vault and let it out. In my view, the other version was better than the theatrical release.
Prometheus's cut is a disaster. So many great scene cutted out. How many more scene there could be there which never leasked out? That movie will be the new Blade Runner(hopefully), once Scott decides which version he likes the most...
I think the reason behind the majority of the cut scenes in Prometheus is a religious one. Although I do feel, the Engineer dialogue mentioning that Jesus Christ was the engineers last chance to give humanity the opportunity to change their ways was a great idea. It could just be that maybe it was a little to sensitive or maybe touched a little to close to our own story of origin!? I mean, people have started religions over way less than that! 😂 (Starwars, Avatar) … to name but a few! 🤷🏻♂️ & Ultimately, The movie itself paid a heavy price for the exclusions to the story! Who knows, where the franchise would now be headed if Scott did actually go along with that plot!? 🤔

The expanded version offers great filler which explains what was lost in the theatrical cut version of the film. The novels Aliens: Out of the Shadows and Alien: River of pain. The first novel explains Ripley's disappearance in space spanning the 57 years. The second novel explains the situation involving the colonists of Hadley's Hope and their attempt to survive. Both novels are available on audible through Amazon. In Alien three the "all male prison colony of x,y,y chromosomes inmates. It was believed that hose who had an extra y chromosome would develop into a violent criminal, after a while that explanation has since been debunked. The "Dog burster scene" and the Ox scene found in the theatrical version release offers the original idea however this doesn't explain the correct attributes which the Dog Alien or Runner species possesses. I agree the autopsy of Rebecca Jordan or Nute is unnecessary and too disturbing. I would want the junked parris location for the ending but would also accept a desert location as well, both locations explains how the human race becomes a consumer based economy. This would lead to the wastelands in the desert devoid of natural resources and the parris location of synthetic beauty involving the city and the garbage spread throughout what was once a beautiful landscape. In Prometheus the Engineer comes to the conclusion to wipe out the human race, after seeing the audacity of past actions and the newest offense from Charles Bishop Weyland. This man tries to act like God by creating David in his own image. The practical effects in Prometheus are great but the biggest issue in the production was the movie script for this film. The simplest explanation would be that the Engineers created the Human race to be an example of how a species could achieve harmony and peace throughout the world. No wars no global conflict just peace,love and understanding.
I know I am absolutely in the minority in this, but ALIEN is far superior to the sequel ALIENS. ALIENS is dated where the original is timeless. ALIENS is a shoot em up action film, where ALIEN is a slow burn horror film. James Cameron is vastly overrated.
It was the follow-up to Prometheus that ruined all of it for me. Alien and Aliens were brilliant. Prometheus was a promise that Covenant failed to provide. Sad end.
I don't like James Cameron's approach. He changed the mystery of the horror of the alien life form into a typical shoot 'em up, gung ho, action packed badda boom fest.
As much as I love JC's 'Aliens' I wish he'd kept the original smooth-domed Giger design, no queen, and the horrific creepy sexualised intelligence of the big chap. Turning them into 7ft termites lost all 'alienness' IMHO, and therefore a lot less scary. Alien should mean alien and not big bugs that could easily have evolved here on Earth.
Prometheus was the biggest movie disappointment I ever experienced. It got even worse when I got the DVD as a gift and found the deleted scene of the "zombie" guy coming back from the cave was way better than what they used in the movie. Zero confidence in Ridley Scott ever doing another good Alien movie.

The Newt autopsy scene shows just how bitter Ridley Scott was about the success of Aliens. Alien was an all-time classic but he single handedly killed the franchise and then curb stomped the corpse with his prequels.
There have never been two worse squealing/whining/terrible "actors" than the little girl playing newt and the little boy playing in "The Babadook". Both of those kids absolutely nearly ruined those movies due to their irrational, ear piercing squealing and squalling.
