      This is a great example of knowing ones own strengths and weaknesses and the enemies strengths and weaknesses and how to turn a "loosing" or "lost fight" into a draw or level the odds to make you have the advantage. Soviets did this in ww2 vs germany, the soviets desided they would smash their line right onto the german line so that if the germans wanted to use artillery they would have to shell their own men.

They probably felt confident in destroying an old relic from a bygone era with their new, big and shiny machines. The AT-TE was also known to be extremely well armored, with the legs and underbelly being the exception. But all the hits it took were to the armor plates. My favorite is that the clones taking on the AT-ATs showed that they were playing with more firepower in the clone wars and the Empires walkers were all show. The CIS hover tanks would sometimes kill an AT-TE in one hit yet the AT-ATs couldn't even completely kill an aged and degrading AT-TE with blaster fire.

      @Brodrich Рік тому +8

      @@Kyle-gu3ge I will admit the ones from the battle of hoth had better shielding as in a later episode of rebels an AT-AT is disabled with a single rocket to the leg HOWEVER the armour is still worse than the clone walker as in episode 5 getting tripped is enough to disable the shields and then the speeders could blast through the armour in a few shots like it was made of paper. And we haven't seen these walkers show any less firepower than the ones in episode 5 so we can't say for sure in that regard. So better tech (shields) but worse armour than the clone walkers had. Also the AT-AT have almost always been more for intimidation than actual siege due to their high cost, low durability, low mobility, and being a REALLY big target. Only places they are good for is deep marshes/snow/water because they have the height to keep out of it but you might as well use a speeder at that point.

A mix of AT-AT, AT-PT and AT-ST, with some anti-air units was all that I needed, sometimes a few DarkTroopers Phase 2 added to the mix. • @asaschuemann9545
    @asaschuemann9545 Рік тому +6

    In regards to the ATTE's gun not penetrating the ATAT's armor, I figured it has to do with the nature of the gun itself. The gun is a mass driver, not a blaster cannon, meaning it usually fires a physical shell that is coated in plasma as it leaves the barrel. Given how old this one was, it had likely run out of shells a long time ago and was down to just firing plasma, which, as we know from Empire, "that armor's too strong for blasters". As for why the ATAT's own guns can damage the armor, firstly: they are newer and likely more powerful models than what that ATTE is packing, and second: despite Kanan and Zeb unloading on that other ATAT, it really only causes minor damage to the hull, a bit of spall and some melted plating but the vehicle really isn't crippled until that neck shot by Rex.

      Edit: something else worth noting is that AT-ATs are shielded. The immense punishment from the Ghost's four proton torpedoes might have been enough to permanently put its shields offline, allowing Kanan to cut through the exposed legs

    Ball turrets, more visibility on the cockpit windows, a rear gunner. Why do these AT-AT make the later ones look like downgrades?

    1)All Terrain Armored Transport (early rebellion against the Empire)
    2)All Terrain Armored Transport (Galactic Civil War)
    3)Elite AT-AT.
    4)First Order All Terrain Armored Transport. 4 different models Obviously these aren't the same as what we see in the movies on hoth The positions of the guns and the thickness of the legs are totally different

    Just looking at the walkers chasing Ezra and the others look like early versions of the All Terrain Armored Transports or they could be the same but of a different design I honestly don't know.

    I don't like how they put the firing sound of the AAT over the AT-TE, especially since each tank was on the opposite faction in the Clone Wars. Also why would you ever put the AAT cannon sound over a rocket launcher, of all things (7:40)

  • @RustyDust101

    Actually, the AT-AT is definitely the wrong acronym. It should be the NT-AT for No-Terrain-Attack-Tower. Because once it is deposited it would sink into the ground at the very first step, right up to its knee joints. Surface pressure, baby, is a real bitch, especially in anything walking.
    Us Germans found that out with the Maus tank which weighed around a mere 180 tons and had ultra wide tracks underneath a good 30% of is tank width. It was able to achieve a top speed of around 6km per hour on reinforced concrete. In ANY kind of softer terrain it quickly churned up the ground to become bogged down. An AT-AT is MUCH heavier and places its weight alternatively on different spots with each step which are all significantly smaller in comparison to the Maus' treads proportionately.
    So after the first step the 'walker' becomes a 'stander', ot in military terms, an immobile target deserving to be flanked as it has no ability to bring its firepower to bear on anything outside the front 90 degree arc. Make it the dumbest transport in history.

    Im honestly surprised the republic walker's cannon wasn't able to penetrate the atat's armor. Like yeah they are uparmored, but AT-TE cannons have damaged separatist crusiers in space, your telling me an imperal walker has more armor than a cruiser class starship 100x it's size?

    AT-ATs are certainly good, but DROPPING them from dozens of metres up?! Those things must weigh several tons, doing that would either make the walker topple, damage it severely, or both. They are literally designed as walking fortresses, you would have to deploy them carefully.
