  • Hike along with the Midwest Coast Travelers, Steve & Cindy, as they tour one of their favorite State Parks in Missouri, Ha Ha Tonka. From old castle ruins to Missouri's 12th largest spring. Miles of great hiking trails and many things to see and do. Ha Ha Tonka is located in Central Missouri on beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. So you can even come by boat or by car to this park. There is two boat docks and a kayak launch ramp for easy access to paddle around the cove. This is one State Park you do not want to miss.

I first visited Ha Ha Tonka in 1969 July, October, and January 1970. Working on a term paper of historical places in Missouri. I interviewed 18 members of the Osage Indian tribe. The white man misspell Ha Ha Tonka. According the tribe elders I interviewed it is one word, meaning laughing waters. The owner at that time was a restate company in Florida. The castle is half of what is was back in the late 1960's. Vandals (partying high kids had there way with the water tower and castle).

Wow. Great info. I also first visited HHT in the early 70s, before it became a state park and before the water tower burned. We drove over the natural bridge to get to the castle area. I’m as impressed with it now as I was then. I hate that you can no longer clamber around on the ruins, but I certainly understand why.
