2024 Solar Eclipse Old Greenville Rec. Area, Lake Wappapello
We headed to Old Greenville Rec. Area on Lake Wappapellpo / St. Francic River to watch the total solar eclipse. The campground was very nice and clean with large sites and the walking/biking trails were great. You could go from the campground right into town. Lots of history here from the old town site to the Trail of Tears.
The bad part about this trip was we had to cut it short and get our 13 year old traveling buddy to the vet. This was Rango's Last Ride. We will miss him on our other adventures.

Big Sky Montana Hiking - Snowshoeing - Cross Country Sking

Big Sky Montana is a great place for some winter adventures like hiking to a frozen waterfall, snowshoeing in Yellowstone National Park, or cross country sking on a golf course. There are many trails in the area. The hard part is picking which one to hike on. Here are a few that we would hike again. Ousel Falls Trail, Uplands Trail, South Fork Loop Trail, Specimen Creek Trail.

We took a ride down to Arkansas to visit Crater of Diamonds State Park to see if we could find any diamonds. The campground was beautiful, hiking was great, but no luck finding a diamond. If you go hunting diamonds, be prepared to get dirty. About an hour away is Hot Springs National Park. This park is part of the old Historic Bath House Row in Hot Springs Arkansas. Wonderful video. Been going there since mid 60s. Still go once a year with wife. Even went when Lake Delton was emptied. Got to walk on it. Dennis Port is beautiful year round! The bayside of Dennis is nice also...but a little too spread out and honky tonk (especially the beaches...usually left trashy in the summer). So Dennis Port on the ocean side is definitely the better call. Great call on The Oyster Company (I was there last week!) and Sailing Cow (a little dumpy, but good breakfast and great location...right on the beach). Thanks for posting this!

    I first visited Ha Ha Tonka in 1969 July, October, and January 1970. Working on a term paper of historical places in Missouri. I interviewed 18 members of the Osage Indian tribe. The white man misspell Ha Ha Tonka. According the tribe elders I interviewed it is one word, meaning laughing waters. The owner at that time was a restate company in Florida. The castle is half of what is was back in the late 1960's. Vandals (partying high kids had there way with the water tower and castle).

      Wow. Great info. I also first visited HHT in the early 70s, before it became a state park and before the water tower burned. We drove over the natural bridge to get to the castle area. I’m as impressed with it now as I was then. I hate that you can no longer clamber around on the ruins, but I certainly understand why.

    Hey guys, nice video and thanks for posting. We are heading there in a couple of weeks. I have a couple of questions if you could answer for me, please? I have the Arkansas fishing guide and it is confusing with catch and release areas, the times of the catch and release, the types of baits, hooks and so on that a person can use. I'm really confused. Are you permitted to keep the trout you catch provided they are within the limits and size? We will be fishing from the shore, since our campsite shows we will be staying right next to the river? What about bait and lures? What's the deal with that? Then I read the hooks need to be barbless and then I read they don't. None of it makes sense! Do we need to just use artificial lures or can we use worms or whatever? Thanks and nice, clear video!!

    • @midwestcoasttravelers
      @midwestcoasttravelers 2 роки тому

      There is a catch and release area below the dam. From the campground down you can keep legal fish. If they are running water it is harder to fish from the bank but you can. White rooster tails work good. Or you can try an olive wooly on a spinner is one of my favorites. If they are not running water, it is perfect for fly fishing or light spinners.

      @@midwestcoasttravelers We'll probably only fish from the shore. We have a reserved RV site on the river. I'm looking now at buying some rooster tails. Thanks for the tips on what lures to use. Like I said, reading the Arkansas fishing rules and regulations book, you have to be a rocket scientist to understand it. They contradict themselves on what type of hooks, where you have to release the fish, etc. The map of the park looks like it's all catch and release, but then I've talked to people like you and have said you can keep the trout. Gosh, they didn't put that much thought into splitting the atom!!!!

    • @midwestcoasttravelers
      @midwestcoasttravelers 2 роки тому

      @@garyp9906 fishing from shore you might want to try around where the spring comes into the river. And down river from there is also good. You can also fish up around the store and marina.
