The girl that never was and carry you home are also heartbreaking, especially when you realise many of James songs, like Monsters, are based on real life tragedy. I would also add No bravery to the list of must see videos as it includes real video footage recorded when James was serving in the Bosnian war. Very sobering. James is a master of the sad song.
James wanted this to be 100% real and authentic. This was the first time he'd sung it to his dad, who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and was not expected to survive, although they did eventually find a donor and he made it. Both James and his dad are former officers in the British military. First time I heard this was 3 days after my Dad passed away and it broke me I lost my Dad 4 years ago this August after he fell and hit his head sadly he didn't survive it caused a bleed on his brain I sadly never had the chance to tell him I loved him and that hurts but i know he is at peace now.
My dad also fell and hit his head and passed away, no one found him for 8 hours. When I heard this song as someone whose childhood was nothing but listening to James Blunt, it broke me. This song still makes me tear up after 2 years after his passing.
The phrase “ I’m not your son, your not my father, we’re just two grown men saying goodbye” was a saying his father told him as he was shipped off to war. This is a 1 take live version of the first time he sang it to his father. I can’t imagine how difficult the song was to sing two verses and choruses while his father was sitting there next to him with the camera focused in so as to not show his father sitting next to him the whole time. That took some serious stones to accomplish in my not so humble opinion. I’ve written songs for people that have died for their families and all of them except one heard the songs before they passed, trust me when say, it’s very difficult to make it through a song like this and stay clean and sing as clearly as he did. Blunt is a monster good song writer and artist.
In 1975 my father was there for my first breath, he helped clean me and cloth me, then carried me into my first home. In 2023, I was there for my fathers last breath, I helped clean him and cloth him and carried him out of his last home. I miss you pops (RBA)
I had longer with my parents though it was just as sad when they passed, my mother was in hospital when I got the call "get here now", I spent two weeks up in Scotland and then had to go home to earn money, she died two days later. That hurts, it still hurts two years later. My father was dying of cancer and we got him a bagpipe band to come to the cottage, I can remember my mum , not quite shouting at him, but, saying Eddy , Eddy get up there is something you must see, he was a few weeks from death and had no clue what was going on, it was very sad to see.
This song has so much meaning for me. I took my father into my home when he turned 90 and was on his last two months of life on Hospice. I actually did fold his clothes and get them ready for him each day and night. I left the light on for him. I hugged him every single night and told him how much I loved him. Although emotionally sad, it truly was awesome to spend those last two months of his life together....and yes we came full circle and I was taking care of him and making sure he wasn't afraid of what was just around the corner. I still cry when I hear this song. Thanks for sharing.
What the title Monsters means. James is refering to when he was just a young kid and his farther would tell him that he would chase the monsters away so james could go to sleep and feel safe, without worring about the monsters in his bedoom. Now it is James's responsibility to tell his farther, it is okay to close your eyes and he (James) will chase the monsters away.
My brother just had a massive heart attack about two weeks ago and he died instantly. My father died a few years ago and we had a love hate relationship, but as he was dying i knelt and talked a while to him even though he couldn't respond. He held onto my hand so hard though and at that moment nothing mattered but how much we loved each other. I wish i could have made him prouder, but something in the way he squeezed my hand and pulled it to his chest made me feel he had forgiven everything and i could feel his love so strong. Maybe in some ways he was proud of me. Thank you for this beautiful video.
Imagine how you'd feel if you didn't already know the song from a cover. Discovering this song for the first time with the original and this video is devastating. 😭
He only did one take one time no edit straight up what you see is what you get. What's amazing is the total story james was a British officer an his dad is a Colonel his senior officer. So he's not just paying respects to his father but respect as his senior officer.
Captain Blount saying goodbye to Colonel Blount, fortunately prematurely. In an interview James said it was shot five times, only twice with his father.
This was just one take and his vocals were live with a backing track. The Music Company wanted to autotune it because they thought his emotions messed with the vocals but he insisted on it staying as it was.
Hello, nice to see you! At the beginning of time we were together and we spoke the original language. Old place names are witnesses of this (there are few of them left). We are the last speakers of the original language. Greetings from Estonia! I am sending you an old song!
Background. James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, almost as if it's a touching farewell to his father"....the studio also wanted to do retakes because he was legit crying and he told them to stick it
I couldn’t cry when the other guy sang it knowing the personal level in which James sang it. His sister wrote the song. Jame’s father at that time was dying. So the tears were real. For me, to use that as a cover song, is insulting. That’s just my opinion. James writes a lot of stuff from his experience. If you listen to The Girl That Never Was you’ll hear what I mean.
Hello, it's a pleasure to see you!~It turns out that we are a little bit related (Sulewesi (melted water) sea. House(he doesn't give me matches-more than you think! Place names(we can understand them)!I'm sending you a song from Flowers!Greetings From Estonia!
James Blunt told his father that he would only be able to shoot this video in one take, so he wasn't to muck things up! You can see James nodding to his arm to remind his father to put his hand there. He shot it in one go, at the end everyone in the room was in tears apart from his father, who said, "Why are you all crying? I'm still here!"
At 16-years-old I gave my father an ultimatum between the drugs and me. I thought it would help him get clean. I didn't really understand much of anything, I was a kid. At 19-years-old I came home on leave from my deployment to Iraq and I saw him walking on the side of the road, I had not spoken with him since the day I gave him the ultimatum, at that time I felt he had chosen the drugs over me, so I did not stop and speak with him that day. One night not long after I got home from Iraq, I got word that he had been rushed to the hospital, when I got to the hospital, he was already unresponsive and never regained consciousness before dying a few hours later. Some decisions you don't realize are forever and you never get one second back.
As a man always told men do not cry suck it up if I did cry my dad would of told me you want to cry I will give you something to cry about use the belt you are a young man and men do not cry and everything is fine never show emotions or feelings
My father died from suicide over 20 years ago, one Sunday morning.. I never got to say goodbye, and Im losing the memory of his voice.. Tell people you love them every day.. This makes me bawl my eyes out every time.. And Im a 52 year old man..
I feel for you. I lost my father to suicide when I was 22, It's been 38 years since The anger, the guilt and pain have long since gone, and only sadness remains. I never really got to know him and wish I had. This song along with Peter Gabriel's Don't give up, Cat Steven's Father and Son and Mike and the Mechanis Living Years, still bring tears to my eyes
Fyi: This was live, it was not fake, and it was done in one take (b/c he did not want to redo it) ..l. ua-cam.com/video/Py2db2s4gR0/v-deo.htmlsi=9jwxiZk7Nwdb2Bzf
it was his dad , he was going to die, needed a transplant. james was a soldier and when he served he had his guitar strapped to the side of his tank, his dad got a transplant, but james must have so much more to sing because im sure he must have more from the war he was in.
Once they finished the video, there wasn’t a dry eye in the studio…and it was said, his father said to everyone.. ‘why are you all crying , I’m still here’.. 😂🙏🏽
What should we react to next from James Blunt?

Thank you. He just released a New song titled: the girl that never was a couple months ago..

you can still tell him you love him
Found a donor because of this song !
My dad also fell and hit his head and passed away, no one found him for 8 hours. When I heard this song as someone whose childhood was nothing but listening to James Blunt, it broke me. This song still makes me tear up after 2 years after his passing.
It was done Live in one take. No autotune, just straight from the heart first time. Amazing.!
Anyone who listens to that and dont cry isnt human !
Beautiful !
Good reaction !
👍👍👍💕🇸🇪😎

James Blunt just released another tear jerker, "The Girl that never Was"

As mentioned below, "The Girl That Never Was" will break your heart. Master of emotion!!💔

It was done in all one take..apparently the whole film crew were bawling their eyes out
2 songs always make me cry, this one and the title Hurt by Johnny Cash. I'm 62 and I'm not ashamed of my tears 🥺
You can always tell the men who were raised by great fathers by their reaction to this song!…
that was done in 1 take m8...much respect!

Love you guys ❤

I have heard this song many times and crying every time, if you don't cry you don't have a heart ♥
A great reaction from two great humans!
Greetings from the UK.
This was just one take and his vocals were live with a backing track. The Music Company wanted to autotune it because they thought his emotions messed with the vocals but he insisted on it staying as it was.
This song has wrecked many a reactor not to mention millions of people who have seen this video.
Every time I heard this song I cry like a baby It is a beautiful song ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Don’t feel bad man, I’ve heard this song dozens of times and I’m a blubbering mess every single time.

This is a one-take, raw, emotional performance. Also, James Blunt refused to let it be auto-tuned.
It was live in his home studio. Done in one take. First time James had ever sung it in front of his father and almost anyone in fact.
Lulú eres hermosa, bonita reacción, saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱

I was literally just thinking about James Blunt like an hour ago
That's his dad with him. Thank God he found a kidney so he could live. ❤
James Blunts sister wrote a poem about her dad being ill and james put it to music , thankfully dad survived after a transplant
Hopefully you react to more James Blunt. His song “The girl that never was” is heartbreaking
For me it’s the moment where Jame’s dad grabs his harm and rubs his ram with his thumb. Gets me every time
Do you proofread before hitting send?
Sugarland: Stay ...please listen to that
I am,sung by Stan Walker...not a sad song, but beautiful none the less.He is from New Zealand and is of Maori descent (native New Zealander)as am I.

His song "the girl that never was" is a lot sadder, not as catchy but just as emotional. It's allergy season, damn pollen messes all of guys up
Even the toughest of us get taken down by a little pollen!
Live, one take, 100% real
Fyi: This was live, it was not fake, and it was done in one take (b/c he did not want to redo it) ..l. ua-cam.com/video/Py2db2s4gR0/v-deo.htmlsi=9jwxiZk7Nwdb2Bzf
This video was shot in one shoot, because it was to emotional for James.. no takes just a one time thing.
No wonder it hits you right in the feels.
He recorded that video in one continuous take. He purposely wanted to do it that way. ❤
One take Blunt lol
Monsters makes perfect sense, James is taking on the baton from his Dad, “to chase the monsters away”.
I did not have a great relation with my father and not have have any contact with him for since i was a kid, but this song hit me hard.
This song is called Monster, must be because you can instantly tell a monster from a human being based on how much they cry 😭
Great reaction
My best friend Duncan who was in the hospital which I had no idea I find out he was taken off life support I will see you again soon my brother
One take, and from what I've heard just about everyone in the room was crying except his dad.
"The girl that never was" by James is almost as heart breaking... really recommend that you give that one a try
wait, was there a song playing?
React to his song the girl that never was
My Grandpop died 10 years ago when I was out of the country.
❤❤❤
I love James and as he says himself I've got another miserable song. Yea he's joking but he's good at them
Nice reaction guys
it was his dad , he was going to die, needed a transplant. james was a soldier and when he served he had his guitar strapped to the side of his tank, his dad got a transplant, but james must have so much more to sing because im sure he must have more from the war he was in.

"the girl that never was"
This song was written by James sister .after james recorded it his father received a donor for an incurable disease from a fan.❤🎉
Would recommend “No Bravery” with the official video as well.
That was done in a single take, and live
Jonah Lomus, Funeral Haka. Is on the same Emotional level!
IT WAS LIVE
One take is all it needed
He made the video for his dad's kidney and he got it!
When James made this video, He thought he was going to lose his father. But soon after he got a kidney transplant and is doing well
This song is amazing, you end up crying even tho you are strong ;;;
Where are u from? U are just as US?
It was 1 take, he didn’t want it changed
This only took one take believe it or not
No crying challenge? This song is mainly for that, because sometimes, crying actually helps...
💯
Done in one take
Next song: THE GIRL THAT NEVER WAS by James Blunt.
Crying doesn't mean you're not strong. If I'm wrong, I am the weakest of them all. I refuse to believe that ;).
Please react to no bravery official video james blunt
Please turn your heating up,❤
No , Monster is the perfect name for this song because it will absolutely wreck you.
😎💙👍
The video was done in one take, with no autotune.
Mr Pumpkin
If you don't cry when you hear this, you might be a psychopath.
Please explain why someone who doesn’t cry, is better dealing with their emotions ?. Crying is GOOD, real men cry !!
Mate you are one LUCKY dude if the gorgeous lady is your girlfriend, kudos to you fella
