- Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication arranged and performed by Sangah Noona | RHCP Piano Cover
🤘 It’s been a long time to cover my favorite band Red Hot Chili Peppers! Here we go! ROCK ON!! 🤘
[Lyrics]
Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind's elation
And little girls from Sweden dream of silver screen quotation
And if you want these kind of dreams it's Californication
It's the edge of the world and all of western civilization
The sun may rise in the East at least it's settled in a final location
It's understood that Hollywood sells Californication
Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging
Celebrity skin is this your chin or is that war you're waging?

Dream of Californication
Dream of Californication
Dream of Californication
Marry me girl, be my fairy to the world, be my very own constellation
A teenage bride with a baby inside getting high on information
And buy me a star on the boulevard, it's Californication
Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement
And Cobain can you hear the spheres singing songs off Station To Station?
And Alderaan's not far away, it's Californication
Born and raised by those who praise, control of population
Everybody's been there and I don't mean on vacation

Dream of Californication
Dream of Californication
Dream of Californication
Dream of Californication
Destruction leads to a very rough road but it also breeds creation
And earthquakes are to a girl's guitar, they're just another good vibration
And tidal waves couldn't save the world from Californication
Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging
Sicker than the rest, there is no test but this is what you're craving?

Sangah's always worth a listen. She produces so many ideas and inventions in her covers. I find it amazing.
Aside from this perfectly executed cover, something I noticed that has nothing to do with the quality of the musical delivery, but is an interesting harbinger, is how several pianos are stacked up in the background.
I see two distinct things about the alternating-sized pianos, in no particular order, from Medium, to Smaller, to Larger, to Smaller, to Largest…a carefully planned variation which represents how Sangah controls the mood throughout her cover. She can switch back and forth at will, always with the most subtle transitions, and never predictable. Even so, like the straight line that the pianos form, she always has a vector, a direction, a vision. No matter which way the winds blow, she always brings her viewers along for the journey and safely lands them at the end of the song, which is always as impressive as the mosaic piano at the end of the line. It matters not how she ends the song, because she always ends with a Grand and colorful finish. Without her masterful control of the piano and arrangement, no amount of stacked pianos would mean anything. Your songs, Sangah, have indeed inspired my musical imagination! I do not feel that same thing with other grand artists. Thank you ! ! !
👏 👏 👏
You should be a journalist! 👍🏻😉🌷
Think this is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard!
Sangah ...Thanks to your music I take a break from all my problems...
This is officaly the most beautiful piano play i have ever heard in my life 😮❤️
I think when Bartolomeo Cristofori invented the piano over 300 years ago, he did so with the foreknowledge that someone like you would eventually come along who could use his invention to its fullest capabilities. If he were here now, watching and listening to you, he would smile, shake his head in wonder and say "Wow!". Just like the rest of us. Thank you Sangah another great post!!
Wow!!!!! You made the first comment Mark!! And that’s amazing compliments!! I really and always appreciate your encouragement Mark! 👍🏻😉💕❤️

wow! amazing
I am once again amazed at how I could enjoy a music piece I usually do not care for just because you are hitting the keys of your piano and creating vibrations that I otherweis did not hear or feel in the original. This only proves that we should always be opened to new paths in life. Thank you once again for leading me there.

Love it, Goddes of Improvisation, drop my hat Luv
you are so amazing its unreal
Te amo!

Good stuff
Sangah.
Complex as souls go,
no limits,
no light to bright to follow.
Simple as a human can be,
imagining free.
Lost in music, never lost.
Speak to me, speak louder.
Delicately play, only whisper.
Never use words.
Sangah Noona,
complex as a flower,
then simple as the universe.
A beautiful as a drop of stardust taps into her entire energy within.
Maybe stars can only stay believed into being if some of the dust shines back.
Sangah,
bright stardust....
you rock !
I love this performance.
Amaizing ;) My favorite cover of this song

Wow! You learned guitar with this song? F#m as a beginner?! Wow!! I quit guitar because of F. You are awesome Federico! 👍🏻😉💕😎
This is so beautiful! 😭♥️
Thank you my friend! ❤️👍🏻😉
Note: My previous wording misidentified the vamping as the chorus...I modified my post to clarify that I was talking about the underlying vamping melody, not the chorus/"Californication lyrics"
Wow…I was blown away by your playing. I’m not completely familiar with the original, but I think it’s a good test to guage how I feel about your song delivery. If I knew the original well, I would be able to pick out the things that you played verbatim, as well as the things that you put your own touch on, so this will be a good opportunity to give a complete, unbiased critique of how Sangah played a song with which I was not intimately familiar. Hypothetically speaking, then, my 1st critique will assume that you, Sangah, wrote the entire song. After my critique, I will go listen to the original RHCP song and study it…and then return here for a follow-on critique. I think I already know how that will turn out, but to be fair, I will not cheat and listen to the original before my follow-on critique.
So here goes…
Critique #1:
If I were to assume that Sangah wrote this entire song as an original, this is how I would critique it. VERY melodic intro with the most rudimentary vamping. VERY intricate fingerings. VERY consistent, and gradual increase of rhythm layers. VERY consistent increase of energy level. Even though the energy level continues to build throughout the song, Sangah always takes two energy-building steps forward, and one energy-removing step back, so as to allow the energy “pendulum” to swing back and forth throughout the entire song, while gradually building the overall song energy, yet still careful not to prematurely reach the song’s climax…love how she used finger fluttering (1:51-2:01) to help take yet another secret back street before merging back onto the main street. Another way she keeps the suspense building is by making continuous modifications to the rudimentary base melody/vamping. Even though her pendulum swings back and forth between that base melody/vamp and the “new melodies” (i.e., the new verses), she never allows the underlying melody to become stale by always making slight changes to it…not too much to lose sight of the base melody, but still enough to know that the song is continuing to “grow” in energy. The energy growth is not a simple linear increase in energy, but rather a mixture of macro increases and micro increases and decreases in energy to maintain that two-energy steps forward, and one-energy step back throughout the entire song. I have no idea how in the WORLD Sangah could ever memorize such a complex and unique energy pattern without notation. Your mind is unbelievable, Sangah, and your heart is even MORE impressive!!!! And your fingers….oh my…everything your fingers touch turn to Gold! 😊
There are only so many different things you can do on a piano to exploit every possible musical parameter, and you have found all of them, and then some!
You have used every possible resource available to get every single sound out of that piano, and when you run out of sounds, you will invent some type of creative way of combining those individual sounds to make an entire new sound of its own! If average people can assemble a jigsaw puzzle in only one possible way, you are able to assemble that same jigsaw puzzle in twenty different ways, and still make the pieces fit perfectly! I REALLY DO NOT KNOW HOW you can do this and make it seem so simple, Sangah! I know it is very complex, but you make it look simple!! This song has got to be on my top three list of yours. And you have at least fifty that are in my “top 3” list, don’t you know!!! I need to calm down now, so I will stop critiquing! 😊 😃 😊
Serio, eu nem dei play mas ja fui dando o like por que eu sei que ta perfeito 👏👏👏
Love music😍😍
Thank you Enzo! Have a great weekend! 👍🏻😉💕

Ahhh. Brilliant my dear. This sounds like it belongs in a movie's OST. Like a Drama Mystery?
UA-cam sometimes has great recommendations.
Particularly last year when they recommended one of your earlier (2016?) RHCP renditions. Been hooked to you since.
#KeepGoing.
Wow...! That’s how we started!! I’m glad you clicked the suggested video! 👍🏻😉💕

👍🏻😉💕😜🌹
I don’t listen to the RHCP religiously, so while I do recognize some of their songs, I don’t recognize all of them.
I said I would give two critiques, one without being familiar with the RHCP song Californication, and the second after having listened to the RHCP’s original song and becoming familiar with it.
After first listening to Sangah’s piano cover of this song, I pretended that it was a song that she wrote herself before giving my critique just to see how my impressions may, or may not change between my two critiques. Everything she did was
amazingly brilliant (see my 1st Critique).
Critique #2:
(made after having listened to the original RHCP song)
It’s a simple critique, and is not like the 1st Critique, in which I shared my detailed observances of Sangah’s SUPER DYNAMIC (aka AWESOME) talent in performance and arranging.
By listening to the cover song first, then the original, and then the cover again, I have discovered something about the difficulty of doing a superb cover that Composers/Arrangers/Performers/Artists such as Sangah already know, and it
would be interesting to hear from her the types of things that go through her mind when setting out to cover a song…you know, the things that are important, in her mind. I know that she must consider many different things before releasing her cover since everything, and I mean EVERYTHING must be top notch before she will release it.
There are many musicians who perform covers, but not all of those musicians are true musical artists. Yes, of course, everyone is an artist, but I mean not all of them are of the high caliber that Sangah is. Anyone can cover a song, but very few can do a song cover justice by adhering to the DNA of both, the original talent AND the cover talent. Remember that “cover talent” is much more than just being able to emulate an original song verbatim. That, I believe is a huge challenge, but only the first step. Some cover artists never even reach that first step, which is why their limited talent only allows them to struggle through the song, perhaps playing some, but not all of the original riffs correctly. Not Sangah, though. She can play verbatim any song that she sets her mind to play, but then she raises the bar even higher. She then adds things that the original artist did not use…not because she is not able to clone the original song perfectly, but because that would be too easy for her!
(Can you say B-O-R-I-N-G?? Haha!)
She is always challenging herself by raising the bar, and you can tell…any of us who have been following her can tell…anyone who has bought her album online can tell…heck, even the Red Hot Chili Peppers could tell when they paid her a huge compliment back in September (??) of 2018 for a cover she did of one of their songs. I could never, nor would even want to put words into Sangah’s mouth, but after watching her cover, studying the original song, and then watching her cover again, and again, I believe that one of the biggest challenges for a cover artist is to know how and when to move back and forth between the original song DNA and the cover DNA.
If Sangah were to play covers like the original, verbatim, some people would like it, but many would not. If she played her covers
without demonstrating that she can emulate the original anytime she chooses to, that also would not be appealing to most people. Instead, she does both, giving her listeners the beautiful sounds that we grew up loving about an original artist, but then
giving us oh so much more, and always returning to the original DNA again and again throughout the song to make sure we all get our money’s worth! Haha!
So, the bottom line of this 2nd critique is this:
a) Performing a song cover but not adding enough of your own “cover DNA” is just plain wrong…it’s boring, and mundane.
b) Performing a song cover and adding too much of your own “cover DNA” is equally wrong since it fails to spotlight the original artists work.
c) Finding the best balance between those two is a challenge that only the very best musical cover artists are capable of doing.
Well done, Sangah! You continue to amaze us with your brilliance! 😊 ❤️ 👍🏻 ❤️ 😉 ❤️ 👍🏻 ❤️ 😊
Thank you so much for your compliments! 😆
Please do more Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.
