No, a tank top is a tank top and a vest is a sleeveless jacket. Prime example of a vest is what the main character in Back to the Future wears in the first movie. The ones with Sona are the best.
I don't know where she is coming up with all these false things. In another video she said that in the UK only Jews get circumcized but that in America all men have to get circumcized at birth not only Jews. I think she is just making this stuff up as she goes.
American woman here. She said it in a weird way. In the UK, they call tank tops and wife beaters "vests". So she was clarifying with her son that when the dude mentioned that Conan was wearing a vest, it wasn't a tank top/wife beater.
Sry but u r mistaken Dana -- you were describing "wife beter t-shirts". In US a "vest" is a sleeveless coat or the under piece of a 3 Piece Suit... known to Brits as a "waistcoat"...

Sona is Conan's personal assistant. She is funny as hell. While an employee, the two seem to enjoy a sister / brother-type relationship on a deeper level. Please consider reactions of the two. Start with the "meeting with the Human Resources director"!

With extremely few exceptions interns in the US are unpaid. Some degrees offer co-op programs where this is some compensation and there are a very few companies that'll pay interns in an effort to try to retain them in positions after they graduate, but both examples are extremely rare.
G what are you on about a vest? Lol vest and tank tops are two different things in the states. I think you were maybe talking about sweater vest…? Haha that’s only one very specific type of vests.
A tank top is a sleeveless under shirt. They are also called "Wife Beaters" because of the whole stigma of shows like Cops. When they show a domestic violence call. The guy is usually wearing one and he had just got done beating down his wife, or girlfriend.
Yeah. Vest and tank top are not the same. A vest is usually a waistcoat, sweater (or jumper) vest, or a garment like a sleeveless coat. But I’ve never heard anyone call a tank top a vest. :-)
There are both paid and unpaid interns. An intern is usually a college kid working for someone that's in the field they want to go in for a career. The learning aspect is more important than pay.
Despite what is written by some, some interns are paid and some are not. For example, my senior year of college, I had to take a 4 credit hour internship. I had to get a safety related job and write a weekly journal on it and a final paper on the experience. Some of the jobs were unpaid, as I was taking it for college credit. Although some of the jobs wanted to groom someone to move into a higher safety management role and they paid anywhere for $8 and hour to $25K a year. This was in the mid 90’s. Many internships that are required for college are unpaid. It’s basically work experience in your field for 4-8 weeks part time during college. Medical interns are paid but not very much…they make the huge cash after their internships.
In tech, most interns are paid more than the US national median income. Some like Google or Facebook will pay certain interns 80k+ putting them in the top 10% income bracket as INTERNS. That's crazy
True. And also to be considered is the area of study. Nor to put too fine a point on it, but the "easier" degrees with the most people in it don't pay much or at all due to the competition to get into that situation. Cinema/Film studies, for example. On the other hand, fields that are more difficult with fewer students and fewer still capable students, usually get paid internships because, ad mentioned in other threads, the companies are actually looking for potential hires, and so pay the student to learn the job and then offer a full time position during the last year. That's why STEM, Business, and similarly degreed students typically have jobs long before they graduate. That's one way to figure out the ROI of the degree
The whole series of videos with Jordan Schlansky is worth seeing - starting with Conan busting him for coming in late, and spending some time on their Italian trip together. Also his travel videos, and ones featuring Sona.
Before moving to TBS, Conan ran a traditional "late night" show: interviews with 2 guests (1 if the guest was super-famous), and the skits he did run were more in the traditional style. But after the Tonight Show (NBC) fiasco, he was so grateful to the employees who moved with him to TBS that they just started appearing on the show, adding a whole new fresh element to the genre.
Unpaid internships are far more common than you'd think. And you're right, it's thought of as an opportunity to get in somewhere big. There is the other side of the coin on that with probationary periods vs internship. Where you're paid, but you could be fired within a certain period for any reason
Believe it or not, unpaid internships are somehow a legal common practice in the US. It’s wild, but sometimes you have to do it just to help build a resume
Gaynor got some bad information. A vest is just a vest in the U.S. just like the U.K. We do call a tanktop a wife beater over here. I think you guys might call it that too.
A tank top is a sleeveless undershirt. It's other name is a wifebeater. It got the wifebeater nickname from police shows. These shows always show men getting arrested wearing the shirt for beating their wives. A vest is a sleeveless jacket or a sleeveless jacket for a 3 piece suit.
There are some great clips of the king of late night shows, Johnny Carson "The Tonight Show". David Letterman and Craig Ferguson were also great shows. I worked in the film industry back in the 90's and 2000's and internships would be an opportunity and a stepping stone to working in production.
