I love hearing Dan talk about Harry. I loved them as a duo in the original show :)
“Talk down the occasional jumper.” Nice references to Bull and Roz right there when they were on the roof. Roz being scared about her diabetes and Bull grieving his friends who had passed away.
Such a good revival and Harry would be proud.
Harry's reaction to Dan's real name was hilarious!
You can tell that Abby still misses her father very much. With that said, she is blessed to have Dan by her side and her life. Although she is over Dan by position, Dan has become like a mentor to her. Not just that, I am sensing that Dan has slowly become a father figure to Abby. I feel like Dan is looking at Abby like the daughter he never got to have and knows that former collegue and best friend, Harry, would want him to look after her for him. I have no doubt that when the episode comes that Abby does get married, it will be Dan that will walk her down the Aisle in place of Harry.
This show reboot is only good because of the return of Dan.

probably helps that he's producer on it.
For anyone who watched the original show, we all know Dan was nothing but a big old softie. And Harry really brought out the best of all of them. Just like she does.
a sarcastic softie. Still remembering the time of the kid trying to convince him he was the father. and he actually tried. then got slightly less sarcasm when he found out he wasn't the father. after which the ep ended with him walking away with the kid wrapped around his leg

As others have mentioned, Dan's real name is a nod to the creator of the original show, Reinhold Weege. What a lot of people don't know is that loud gaffaw you heard during the funny moments of the original series was Reinhold Weege, himself. As much as I am fond of this new version, that laugh is something I miss.
It's the same with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Taxi, the really loud guffaw from the audience is James Burrows, one of the creators.

I do too. The good news is that a cable channel called Catchy TV (formerly Decades) is airing OG Night Court week nights 8pm CST.
It also airs on Laff during the day. Most programs will air on two or more stations.

Harry's been mentioned frequently. But still no mention of Christine, Mac, Roz or even Bull.
Only two of them are dead.
Harry was her father, those other people are just peope he worked with 30 years ago.

I'm enjoying the show so far. it's improving and I hope that continues. Don't forget, the first season of the original was pretty weak too but they gave the show time to work out the kinks back then. Hopefully the folks making the new show get that same chance.
It took a few seasons for the original to find its way. I've got them on DVD. One of my all-time faves.
I remember Reinhold .. one of the creators. I'm going to display my Geek side as I went and named a Monk D&D character Reinhold and his trusted travelling mule Weege back in college. Oh the fights thethe group into over the name. Nothing like walking in a tavern and the Chaotic Neutral Thief declaring "A round of drinks for my party including my good friend Reinhold .. and one for his Mule Weege out there as well" to have the DM's NPC's look him over like a slab of meat leading to interesting interactions. geek moment done....

I have to share this. My boy friend now my husband was watching Night Court the night we learned Dan's real name was Reinhold I made the comment that who'd name their kid Reinhold? My boy friend looked at me and informed me that was his dad's name and it was his middle name, 32 years later and we're still together Funny thing My husband's first name is Dan.
I have not seen this show yet, but from what I have seen with the various clips, it seems like it's a reboot done right.
If Dan's next line was not "Roller Coasters? You are 3 feet tall Abby!" they need new writers. Or the ones from the old show.

Is it ever explained on the show how Dan went from being the poster boy for #MeToo to....this? I know old Dan would NEVER be allowed today but there has to be an in-universe reason.
There is a reason: he got married and she really changed him. Plus, the show probably wants to downplay how Dan used to be so they don't end up with a riot in their parking lot.

Yeah, the show does need a little more character development, especially with Neil and Olivia.
I would really like to see Olivia engage in schemes to advance her career that comedically backfire on her.

Dan Fielding's real name is actually Reinhold Elmore, born on a pig farm in Louisiana, changed his name when he graduated Law School and moved to Manhattan. The name was taken from Night Court creator Reinhold Weedge.
Anyone who watched the old show, we find that out from the guy who put on bomb on Dan's wrist and threatened to kill him.

Bull, and Harry will be missed. May they rest in peace. I had to wait until the judge came on tv and out of the party. The big bang show has her relative on it. Her family comes to my Goodwill in North Atlanta, they all seem to have the same squeaky voice. Markie post is whom I have not heard from in a while. Maybe she should reprise her role. Like father, like daughter.

Reviving old shows is tough they did an ok job I guess but the balif just had to be black heavy set short hair that's just stupid and no imagination

The aliens returning Bull couldnt make this show good. There is no chemistry with any of the characters. Hire some extras and hold court now and then maybe? OG night court heard more cases in a night than these guys have done all series.
