- Every now and again, I’m playing Battlefield, and I’ll be kind of grumpy. Sometimes this is because there are features in the game that I kind of wish didn’t exist. But I knew I couldn’t be alone in this, so I asked the Battlefield 4 community over at Reddit what their least favorite things are. Specifically, if you could delete one thing from Battlefield, what would it be?

Grenades/rockets disappearing when you die is by far the most frustrating thing that somehow still exist

Remove friendly soldier collision and add it to enemy so you don't get enemy's running through you and shooting you in the back and when your teammate gets you killed by standing in the door way

there have been so many times a funny guy will be sitting in the doorway of a room i went in to briefly take cover, only for them to just bunker down in the doorway, trapping me, as they shoot their unsuppressed weapon and 10 enemies in the area start coming to turn our room into a meat box and i run into him knifing, pleading for him to let me through... then i see 4 grenade indicators and a respawn screen.
Totally disagree about the AC130, i feel like it could be a really awesome thing in the game if it wasnt linked to commander. I never really got the feeling that it was OP at all
I'd say get rid of thermal on tanks and scout heli mid air repairs
midair repair is veeeery slow
getting rid of thermal on tanks in this game would make them too underpowered. it's not like in 2042 where they don't have thermal but have more defensive countermeasures to protect themselves.
I know this was about deleting but I want better rush maps. It seems like all the maps are made for conquest. It is almost impossible to win as an attacker on some wide open maps with no cover, unless you have an op team

Flashbang. Flashbang is easily spammed and has absolutely no counter. I don't like being debilitated by things I can't counter.
Better yet, let's add a sweet new perk: Sunglasses. Now you can see on snowy maps, are less effected by flashbangs and look like a cool ass dude.

Delete single player? No, please do not do that. The reason that the single player sucks is because DICE and EA can't write a fucking military story very well. Just get guys that know what they're doing you've got a good storyline, that or just bring back Bad Company.

I agree on everything _but_ removing the Singleplayer. I mean all it needs is a little polishing- It even helped me understand the ropes of BF4’s timeline
I hate how the maps play for infantry in BF4. We need more maps like seine crossing and grand bazzar. Map where knowing if someone has LoS on me isn't incredibly complicated. Also have DICE/EA run servers on PC. I HATE the High ticket/fast vehicle spawn servers that always get seeded to the top. I love that on ps4 you can just hop on a EA server and play the game it was meant to be played.

Silencers on belt-fed LMGs. Get rid of them forever. I can understand them being on mag-fed ones, but I just cannot accept the fact that a PKP or M60 can be truly silenced.
The game calls them silencers and the patent for the first one literally says, "silencer".

The anti air should not be able to fire from spawn. Simply disable it's weapons until it passes through to the playable zone for the enemy.
that or decrease its cannon and missile damage range. the range that active radar missiles have is insane.
Make all the commander assets be on the map and destroyable, like many were in BF2. So if there is no commander you can ignore them, if there is one you can strip their best ablilities away if you need too.

I agree 100%. The game needs to loose some weight, its become fat with all these stupid gameplay mechanics/accessories/features that only really sound good on paper but is bad from a gameplay perspective. You forgot to mention the crappy suppression system that for some ungodly reason now effects our weapon stats outside the effective range of what ever gun you're using, I don't know who at DICE still wants this feature in but it needs to go IMO.

Exactly....they removed most of the mechanic during the early days of CTE, now the added recoil is back and not only that they brought in the BF3 suppression system that adds spread to your weapon? It's literally the BF3 system and vanilla BF4 system combined, yeah it only effects you outside of the effective range but still it's bullshit IMO.

Smoke nades would be useful then and work as they were intended to, to conceal your movement, not to work as cheap way of getting kills.
I don't mind them staying on the vehicles though, maybe do some tweaks to it... .

Ya but there is flir in hardline also. How about just remove flir and irnv from bf games. Im in the military and no one would ever use those scopes in real life situations anyway I dont know which dumbass dice employee came up with the idea. It used to have faster missiles but slightly shorter lock on range than the IGLA
But now the stinger has a even slower rocket speed and an even shorter range to lock on.

Mike Hunt The problem is without APS, the tanks would be eaten alive by Jets. For some reason DICE added jets to maps that don't have MAA, so the jets can absolutely rampage with hardly any threats.
I'd personally delete thermal optics and FLIR on hardcore mode. It's ridiculous being hidden in bushes or in good cover but because my shoelace is visible to a tank with thermal optics from a mile away I get killed. It's a giant cheat scope and takes all skill away from the game play especially on hardcore. I'd also reduce the bullet hits needed to kill on hardcore. It's annoying as hell to strafe someone with a rifle, hit them 4 times but they survive, get a med kit and now they and their team mates know where you now are!
Scout helicopter is counterable if: You are a confident Engineer with the rocket launcher of your choice, or a confident vehicle driver, even a LAV can take out a heli
No mention of IRNV scopes?
They are the worst thing about battlefield right now. No smoke cover, no foliage cover, instant spotting in any conditions. Nothing else in the game is nearly as bad as IRNV.

(very late) definitely remove the MBT LAW rocket. it's the cheapest way to engage a ground vehicle I mean come on, the rocket literally follows you unless blocked by a building or something. yes I know that even guided rockets follow you but at least you can counter them. with the law rocket, the only counter is to deploy ir smoke which replaces the APS system making you even more vulnerable to AT fire. law rockets are just like the auto engaging air to air missiles (forgot what they were called), and even though it's draw back is only doing 10-15 damage per rocket, it doesn't help when there's a whole squad of enemy engineers using them.
and yes I understand the annoyance of the APS system, in a way it's actually a balance. I mean reactive armor isn't like it was in bf3, in bf3 if a rocket hit the reactive armor it would take off the armor panel and protect you, resulting in you not taking any damage. in bf4 reactive armor doesn't do that anymore, it only increases the damage you take by half a rocket. tanks in bf3 could take several shells even without reactive armor thanks to bf3s damage system. tanks in bf4 take way less rockets to kill.
another thing that needs a buff is shotguns. shotguns are meant to be overpowered close quarters weapons. in bf4 I shot a guy point blank and it only brought him down to 75 health I had a full choke on the muzzle and was aimed center mass at him
I'm pretty sure you mean the active radar missiles, these work the same as the MBT LAW. These things in general should go, including staff shell on MBT and smart missiles on AH.
You're wrong on the reactive armor in BF4 though, it doesn't cut the damage in half, but increase the amount of damage someone needs to apply on you in 1 hit to score a mobility hit/kill.
For shotguns, run the M870 MCS, it's a maneater.
Tanks play perfectly; what needs to be deleted are thermal sights on guns.
In insurgency, spotting does not give you a little mark above the enemy's head that follows them around. Instead, it marks where that enemy was when you pressed the spot button. And since it only works when you're looking almost directly at the enemy, it doesn't cause spam like in BF2. Maybe the next battlefield title could use a system like that.

I know this video is fairly old by now but youtubes algorithm insisted on throwing on my time-line so I'll leave my recent thoughts on the topic of 3D spotting and ways of recycling it.
After witnessing later titles that removed 3D spotting, I feel one of the better ways is to make it so that 3D spotting can only be performed by specific gadgets rather than just pointing at a player and pin-pointing their exact location. Instead players should be able to "ping" a location, it doesn't give an exact location of an enemy (or group of enemies) but advises the team that "hey, enemies are this way or in this location". An example of what gadgets should've been able to perform 3D spotting is the PLD (Thermal Bino's) and the MAV. It could even be given as a more powerful variant for the Commander if it was recycled.
I'm very impressed. This is a well thought out video with sound reasoning. Kudos. Was hoping to hear some negative remarks about flashbangs.

Active protection and sniper vapor trail. Without the vapor trail, sniping was so much more fun in BF3
spawn protection should only be active when spawning on a flag or in deployment. as you can't exactly chose where you spawn when you spawn on a flag.
Vehicle mobility hits are in my opinion the most frustrating feature in this game. Like what happens at 7:32. You get hit by only one missile. You only take 19 damage yet you lose control of your jet and smash into the ground uncontrollably! That is stupid!!! Same goes for tanks and helis. In a tank you get hit by one tank shot and have to sit there unable to move while the other tank gets to easily land 3 more shots on you before you can even attempt to escape. It's also very very random. Sometimes it happens sometimes not.
its not random just aim, tanks weak spot is rear and side tracks , and well then dont get hit by a rocket you lose youre rear flaps that are near engine
Delete jets, delete lock-on weapons, delete everything you deleted plus a couple things you recycled.
Singleplayer doesn't bother you in any way if you only play multiplayer. So it can stay there for people who play it.
Xoaa I don't have anything against singleplayer, but the argument was made that time and resources required to make a singleplayer campaign detracts from multiplayer. We'll certainly see if that holds true for Battlefront, which doesn't have a singleplayer per-se.
If I could remove something from battlefield it would be the brightness on your character every one can see you no matter if it's night time or you have a grass camo on and your IN THE GRASS BF3 rocked that
I actually think contrast of players took a step down in BF4 compared to BF3. Might have something to do with the fact that a global blue filter isn't being applied.

What would I delete? probably the IRNV scopes, smoke shouldn't be able to be used as a 1 way window, but as a gadget that allows you to move without being seen. the fact people can spam smoke grenades, then camp behind it and have the ability to see anyone behind it is ridiculous, even if you can counter it with flares.
I think a lot of people forget that simply stepping to their side a tad bit initiates an auto knife that can't be blocked when he is still facing straight. the counter can be broken , if Initiating a knife from the front, if the one being attacked hits the counter too early, THIS enables the attacker to get an insta-knife.

I was hoping he would say that. Why have two AA on the same map it just makes no sense. The one in your spawn and the mobile one.
Put the spawn beacon on a cool down time before you can place it down, just like a UCAV or a Motor for the support class. It just seems that it is spammed and abused just like the UCAV and Motor was.
DELETE PREMIUM BULLSHIT! Every "DLC" on PREMIUM are actually the main content and EA cut it for "DLC"...
DLC/Expansion is supposed to be a post release content, not something you can announce before the main game even released!

This is years after this game came out, and I just got to the section about the spotting mechanic, as a visually impaired player for the first two years of the games released before going blind, that spotting mechanic was one of the only ways I could play that game at longer distances, I absolutely loved that feature, have ever since bad company 2.
After playing Hardcore for so long, hitmarkers are very strange to me. I don't really think they're necessary at all.
Hey there. The only thing I'd keep from your list is the scout helicopter. it only takes a well aimed rpg to get rid. perhaps a longer spawn time instead? I'd get rid of Airburst, MGL, M320. Lastly give 1 grenade per life with no acceptions.

3D spotting. What about if the person spotted is only spotted by the player who spotted him in the first place. The team can't see him on the map unless they actually spot him.
ROOF! those god damn roof campers... it's so frustrating to be shot from roofs where you can only reach by chopper, or you just have one dumb elevator. It's ridiculous that you can even cap flags on some of those roofs. Shanghai, lancang, flood zone, dawn breaker... many maps are heavily ruined by this mechanic IMO. Yeah you have many ways to counter them, counter snipe, UCAV, XM25, maybe mortar... but it's usually pointless because they can easily spawn back from radio beacon or squad member. it's exhausting, not fun at all. they need to remove the MAA, or at least nerf the missile reload speed to match the countermeasure reload speed for the stealth jet.

I don't think being on the receiving end of a IFV going 50 mph sounds appealing.
Have heavy slow tanks, and slower maneuvering Attack Helicopters. Remove IFV, Light Helicopters, & Jets. I think jets should be used as a "perk" like asset to a team rather than a metal death bird circling around the map.

especially if better spawning algorithms around flags are implemented so u dont get a player to spawn right in ur face
If I could, I would remove or completely overhaul semi automatic shotguns. They should have half as much power as pump action shotguns. I rarely see pump action shotguns since semi automatic ones are simply better.

It's sad but true. Shire you get more damage per pellet with the pump action shotgun but you can just as easily spam a semi auto.

Imo leave in passive spotting, and 3D spotting shouldn't 2D spot... Your marked in 3D, but unless someone is looking at you you can't be tracked in 2D unless you fire.

headshot bonus from sniper rifles only count towards your score if your team wins... if your team loses and you got 3 headshots over 1000m you only get the standard 300 points for them, if it wins you get your 3000 points headshot bonus

What do you think about making the attack jets cannons way more powerful but have the cannon only fire 25 round burst. So the receiver does have reaction time to go for cover but the attack jet is more powerful
Maybe. Right now DICE achieves a similar effect by essentially forcing the jet into doing two passes on a target if they don't land a JDAM.
I agree with the list, spawn protection is a pain to deal with and should go away and 3D spotting needs to either needs to be tweaked or it has to abandon ship.
I love comander mode, if your team doesn't have one then just become comander to even the plain field

Dmr's were actually worth something in BF4 and we're actually good but in BF4 you never hit shit with them so that's why there is so much spam firing with them.

I pretty much agree with the entire list. I'm not sold on not including a single player mode though. I do think that it's still a good incentive for a lot of people to buy the game. It's one of those biased thing people say if they don't care for it. One of my friends was a top tier Starcraft player and when SC2 came out he argued that a single player was a waste of time and that gamers were only interested in the multiplayer. When HoTS expansion came out blizzard said in a interview that about 50% of players never touched the multiplayer and only played through the single player campaign. Even in games like Titanfall, Evolved and Battlefront you see the lack of single player come up as a reason not to invest into those games.
+FatUberUddersOfChaos Battlefield did fairly well without campaign for some time, the problem lies that in BF4 the campaign was really shitty.

The Combat Spawn disable should also get an improvement. Its good but I can still spawn and get killed or get spawned on when killing someone.
jonhygatinho Spawn protection when it's a static spawn might be okay -- but I think it's hiding the fact that the spawn system kinda sucks.
The tip feture i want removed is that on console (Xbone for this example) the arming button is in a horrible location, it makes it impossible to aim and shot while arming an MCOM

am i the only one who LOVES couner-knifing?imagine you have a 10 kill streak and in bf3 some guy could just end you with a frontal slash if u have low hp (wich you should have if u just went rambo and killed 5 or 6 guys) while in bf4 when someone wants to back-knife you and u accidentaly turn around in most cases for them it will be rip in pepperoni (however this can also happen to you too,wich is why i would advise to only knife campers or distracted players because the chance for them to turn around and rip u is fairly minimal)

Spot fuckin on, damn don't think you missed anything.. I don't mind the Scout helicopters but you shouldn't be able to repair it while you're riding it. The attack heli doesn't get that benefit so they shouldn't either. Land it safely, get out and repair it.
the way to knife someone in the front is you press the melee button again and you will get the kill.
i noticed one thing i want tweaked a few days ago. I want there to be a value to vehicles. I think the vehicles respawn way too quickly for how powerful they are. I was playing engineer and took out 2 enemy tanks on golmud railway just to have the battle of kursk break out 2 minutes later when they hopped back in their shiny new tanks and rolled into A and B 4 tanks deep. Then you have the guys that go 70-0 in a chopper and the only penalty to taking them out is them grabbing a snack while waiting 2 minutes to jump back in to a chopper and go on another rampage.

they should remove cq maps like locker and instead just add more variation in regular maps. like for example, the villages on golmud being expanded so there is more combat in/around the houses, and maybe less of the house being temporary because they all always end up in ruins

Single Player... don't delete it. I was out of gaming for 20 years and decided to get back with BF4 which was my first FPS game. I love it and have over 1000 hrs playing. I played the single player for a long time just learning the PS4 controller, player movement, aiming, etc. That made it much less frustrating and I still go back to the single player occasionally for grins. My experience is prob unique but it gave me a chance to learn the game before I got shredded in the multiplayer.
Scout Heli... WAAY OP with a good pilot and repairs. Just get rid of repairs in the air. Land and repair like Hardline.
I'm curious to see if Battlefront's "cooperative mode" is a fair compensation for the game having no singleplayer.

i think the ac130 is salvagable if they they make it like the bomber in than i does a single run and has to recharge instead of being in the sky 24/7 and do not make it a commander resource make it like in bf3 where you have to cap a certain flag to use it.
xlinkkai saintsrow2 in BF4, you needed the central flag of a map and a commander. the first is easier than the latter
yeah but if your team doesn't have a commander than no ac130 for you. I hink the best implementation is to have a trailer that calls it in just like the bomber in china rising.
i think the AC-130 is not a tank in the sky, but just as useful as a lvl.1 recon. both could be replaced by a more viable option

I've actually got a list of every time I've been facing directly at someone, and in many cases my crosshair was right on their face when i started to knife, and it didn't give me the option to Counterattack.

Good points. I would remove snipers from the game.
When you have ten recon players or more "pretending" to help their team by sniping people across the map, you can pretty much say "game over man". They never run anything but C4 and spawn beacon, so they absolutely help no one by sitting on a mountain top.
MrTampon don't remove snipers. Instead, remove their option to backmap snipe by getting rid of the Hunter and Ballistic Scopes.
