As I am Dutch. I never realized such a simple thing as a bicycle can be life changing for some people. How unfair is this world, this economics. Where some people can earn so much they don't even know what to do with the money, while a bicycle can be life changing for others... :\
The Industrial Re-POLLUTION destroyed the SOCIAL VALUIES. The WEST was never civilised despite self-glorification & rewrite of history. Look at Africa to see how much they respected the cradle of Civilisation. Not understanding Dialectical & Historical Materialism is destructive.
Am I the only one wondering why people have to live miles away from a water source? Imagine Mom spending those three hours a day teaching the kids to be independent. Imagine Dad farming where he lives not walking hours a day. Becoming dependent upon industry for food, machines, and fuel to survive might not be the best option. Every step he took was on clay that can be transformed into housing. Into the roof he spent three years saving for. It can grow the food to eat and herbs for medicine. But that that's water. A lot of it. Water is the world's bottleneck. I think this presentation also missed an important point. If kids are in school until 25 and crippled by industry at 55, then each working adult is supporting themselves and two others. Realistically supporting six people because the wealthy, lazy, and disabled don't physically produce anything. The math is not as rosy as he is making it out to be.
But many of these countries headed toward lower birth rates still don't have the economy size to support their populations therefore the populations are attempting to leave their countries for opportunities.
But unfortunately wrong about the future. China is now thriving because they told people to stop having children. Take a look at population growth in Nigeria and you won't feel so inspired.
YES...!! These know it all "developed" nations meddling in other peoples' cultures.... they are so sure of themselves.... and look at the results in their own nations!!

It's not really about humans. Population and consumption of resources is about ecosystems and other species who have been overrun by humans.. we need a planet in balance to go forward with any optimism
3:25 this video is a myth. What took humanity so long to get to a billion mark? It is not that the population growth was slow, the death rate was high! People were born like dogs on the street, couples having multiple kids because there was no guarantee how many of them will survive to be an adult.. you say Industrial revolution helped us grow more, but you do not talk about the resources which helped us actually.. resources such as coal in the beginning but very importantly crude oil. Our growth has been ten folds in the last 200 hundred years owing to oil. We are bound to get doomed. You can keep thinking positive, upto you. Population decline is a myth. The planet will ONLY benefit from having less and less people.
The population is literally declining and humans make more than they consume. It is capitalism to blame for overconsumption and destruction of natural resources.
He got that part, but in any case he laid out the need for at least the high income countries start reducing their energy consumption big time voluntarily, if not we'll all be forced to do so since no other abundant energy source will be available...so yes, also a big decrease in population will need to happen for a variety of reasons. Dreaming of big combines for Africa with no more oil is delusional.
You're ignoring plummeting fertility rates around the world. Once they drop below maintenance level of 2.1, which has happened to plenty of countries already, then populations will reduce. Immigration help bolster the numbers but you can't rely on that for 100s of years. There is no evidence of fertility rates increasing rapidly, only decreasing. While prices of houses, high cost of living, contraception, abortions, females working same hours as men then populations will fall until we are slowly replaced by artificial humans. Inevitable.
Global literacy is at 80%, yes, but I'm guessing that a huge proportion of that is basic skills from primary education only. When children can no longer go to school after the first few years, that basic literacy may serve little purpose, and not really change anything. So is this literacy figure an indicator of progress and success ?
Ealier people faced wars frequently, so the population was under control. After the world war 2 no big wars. That also reason to increase the population
Just partly. Famines have caused much more casualties than wars. Note that wars and famines often coincide as they are created mostly be politics. Examples are the great Indian famine 1876-1878 caused by English rule, the Ukrainian Holodomor caused by Stalin, the Irish great hunger caused by British rule, the great Chinese famine of 1958-1962 caused by Mao Zedong...Than there is improved medical care (child vaccination). A functional democracy is the best solution against famines.
You are so wrong. I get that wars seem like a really important all impacting factor (and they are) but population was NOT kept in check largely by wars. It was kept in check by illness and by us all dying more often and younger. Basically medicine, hygiene, food security. Violence and wars deaths have fallen, but even during wars, most deaths were not due to violence but by all the disruption (famine, plague) that war caused as a side effects. We don’t talk about it cause it’s boring and battles, fighting, and atrocities are more interesting. Just cause it’s more interesting does not make it bigger or more important.

Nonsense. Mass migration to Europe and anglophone countries allows the high fertility countries to maintain high fertility and hand off the problems they have to somewhere else. There will be population crash thanks to the output of high fertility countries leading to overpopulation bringing down the global market in agricultural products which is supporting artificially high population levels in countries that are unsustainable otherwise. The big un-answered question is, given the population is 11 billion, what is the average income per person going to be? It certainly won't be $100. More likely $ 20 I would think. The world population would need to be lot lower than 11 billion to give every body a good standard of living.
If 1 in 5 children die in childbirth and are included in the length of life average as 0 years then people are not living longer the infant mortality pulls the average down and there is high standard deviation. It is likely that those that survived the first few years of life lived as long as they are living now with the exception of periods of large drought, famine and epidemics.
Population growth is expected to slow down soon, but it will become unevenly distributed. Wealthier, liberal Western countries, where people can afford to provide a higher quality of life for their children, are likely to have fewer children. In contrast, poorer regions of the world, particularly those with strong religious influences-such as parts of Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia-are expected to experience higher birth rates. This imbalance is likely to drive increased migration to Europe and North America. If not managed effectively, such migration could potentially impact the quality of life in these regions. Which to some extent can already be witnessed in some parts of Europe.
That graph at the end was somewhat misleading. China is the world's leader of GHG emissions. By region, Asia 55%; North America and Europe 28%. What does Professor Rosling really mean when he says "the richest" produce the highest carbon emissions? Is this per capita? Or total by country and region?
@@ayoadeyemi420 He didn't explain how the standard of living in the middle countries will improve if rich countries stop buying products from Asia. In fact, he advised that Africa use coal to produce electricity, arguing that carbon emissions from burning coal would be insignificant. @@tanler7953 rich countries cant stay rich taking so many people. that means less import buying power. job gives huge satisfaction to most people all over world. although that concept is not understood same everywhere, it is flexible notion. if people can have job and live life without car, they will do so. car assumption (for commute) is western notion. Although food deliveries by grocery stores is brilliant, reducing traffic jams and problems families have to pack kids in car and all that jazz going there during weekend same day everyone else goes.
The Earth had already been polluted for centuries by the highly developed industrial Western world before China went to industrial. Smearing China is not going to solve the problem. Pay for what you have already dirtied. Clean it up please, for humanity sake.
European white slaves and the poor in the UK died in their milllions from Cholera in the 1800s. Hard work in the Lancashire mills killed thousands. Its a very divided world. So why have the poorest pensioners in the UK had their heating allowance stopped.
Overpopulation is not a problem. Poverty is a well handled mismanage problem. Also, how are you going to have a longer quantity life but with a less quality life?
And where did modern medicine, universal education, democracy, technology come from? Western colonialism and mercantilism spreading western ideas. No way around it, folks. SO tired of the revisionist slop which throws the baby out with the bath water. Colonialism, especially British version, is a net gain for just about everyone. Think otherwise? The historic population counts CANNOT support the Old World construction that is even in existence today... @33:49 this guy would equate "middle class" in so called rich countries. He already has more than most would wish for. many kids, farm, job, income.*^ It is weird to then talk of literacy rate when in west more and more, there are land, farm owners who practically dont do anything themselves, all is done by hired migrant workforce. Basis is to have grow food, then go to school if that helps.
It's meaningless to increase the world population when reasons for young couples to not having children aren't being addressed. When the video mentioned that Japan and Korea are developed and rich countries, what isn't being mentioned was the numbers depressions in younger generation. The number of suicide, work life unbalance, low salary and etc. The list is pretty long. The cost of living are very demanding. Younger generation in Hong Kong and Japan can't afford to buy their own property. Getting married and having babies will cost a lot too. Even if the government give supports for married couples, it doesn't show much success. The younger generation have more knowledge and understand that there isn't any future in this type of economic system. The politicians in many countries are unfortunately bananas too (sorry for the rudeness). If you see the human population is hopeless (brainless), is there a meaning to give birth to a child so that they will face this chaotic population when they grow up? (You already know the answer, I know you knew it too) If you couldn't create a happy and meaningful life for 1 billions population, how would you make 11 billions population to have meaningful lives? (You know the answer obviously. Yes, I know)
We already resources of this world nothing changed only now have moving creatures, so if there growth you build up or downward , if less food farm more or create new plots
I despise those with the true ignorance these days. Not sure where they fit in those charts.... when presented with education, food, job opportunities, and a place to live they still decide to screw over their own communities. Not sure how this gets resolved in many inner cities in America.
While I am watch this I am getting lots of UA-cam ads about people in USA and other nations able to get desserts BY MAIL... Jesus!! The people in the audience will leave, and do nothing else than feel ok about the new info they got?? The problem is not that each person would be able to buy each person over there a bicycle, the problem is the NGOs you give the money to for THAT steal the money, or I hear only 10% of the money gets to the people... I rather someone connected me DIRECTLY to one of these families , and I will send them DIRECTLY $100 dollars for the bicycle or other items they might need... I will never trust an intermediary agency of any sort to do it properly. First some entity can become REPUTABLE not making money from it, just connecting me and people like me, which I know many, with people like these REAL people in need, but more likely an agency will connect you but years alter it comes out tehy were lying and the money you sent they had to share half of it with the agency, that kind of crap the agencies are known for.
The developed world is depopulating while the 3rd world is overpopulating. So, we have both. But the developed world can't feed the excess population of the 3rd world. They are pulling the life-boat underwater and no amount of explanation can help that.

Interesting presentation. However, the good professor's geographical knowledge is evidently quite poor. At 26:10, a digital map of the world is displayed. This map has Africa colored in blue, Europe colored in yellow and Asia colored in red. Incredibly though, continental Europe has miraculously expanded to include all lands from the far western coast of Spain along the Atlantic Ocean, to the far eastern provinces of Russia along the Bering Sea. Since when did continental Europe expand to include all of Russia? Since when did continental Asia shrink to less than half its current size? Quite bemusing geography indeed.

What a fantastic educator!
That graph at the end was somewhat misleading. China is the world's leader of GHG emissions. By region, Asia 55%; North America and Europe 28%. What does Professor Rosling really mean when he says "the richest" produce the highest carbon emissions? Is this per capita? Or total by country and region?
Per capita obviously. That's the reason for the symbols used such as bicycle vs aircraft.
@@ayoadeyemi420 He didn't explain how the standard of living in the middle countries will improve if rich countries stop buying products from Asia. In fact, he advised that Africa use coal to produce electricity, arguing that carbon emissions from burning coal would be insignificant. He didn't address the real question, which is auto vs bicycle, not airplane vs bicycle.
I saw news piece that in china, ebike/e-motorbike is most common vehicle. Most people I know use plane to go to vacation. Car however is daily item to move kids and various tasks.
Less of anything= more quality
Why is it so hard to understand
Excellent presentation. Perfectly delivered and explained. Bravo to this professor for his work.
So basically after Trump's MAGA Era, we'll go back outsourcing work to Asia and Africa at an exponential rate based on the past
yet they still want to migrate to magical west.
The United Nations have nothing to say about this topic or any other. Each country is sovereign.
Heath care workers didn’t bring down the birth rate. Basic economics did it.
Detective of Money Politics is following this very informative content and cheers from VK3GFS and 73s from Frank from Melbourne Australia 😊
How did he do these graphics??
Thanks , very informative 😊
Africa lacks the rain to support this population expansion.

What technology is he using to present?
Population crash is coming. Toxicity is also impacting fertility. Plastics and fossil fuels may sort climate and population out yet.

Everyone happy employed and with house
The latest data shows we will peak by mid century around 9 billion best case scenario so won't get even close to the 11 billion figure.
European white slaves and the poor in the UK died in their milllions from Cholera in the 1800s. Hard work in the Lancashire mills killed thousands. Its a very divided world. So why have the poorest pensioners in the UK had their heating allowance stopped.
Fantastic 🎉
Overpopulation is not a problem. Poverty is a well handled mismanage problem. Also, how are you going to have a longer quantity life but with a less quality life?
Overpopulation is certainly a very big problem
Land freshwater are not unlimited
And where did modern medicine, universal education, democracy, technology come from? Western colonialism and mercantilism spreading western ideas. No way around it, folks. SO tired of the revisionist slop which throws the baby out with the bath water. Colonialism, especially British version, is a net gain for just about everyone. Think otherwise? Russia and Britain fought the Great Game in Afghanistan for control of India--if one power hadn't done it, another would. And imagine the past 170-year history of India under--Russia.
Listen then justify things that are not okay just because it makes you feel okay. You don't need to do something not okay to yield okay results.
Great video but way too many ads in this video!!
1 billion population at year 1800... Then WHO BUILT EVERYTHING BEFORE 1800?
The rest? But tbf there wasn't that much compared with today since it was for the most part quite simple structures and infrastructure(if any)
500 years to build note dame 😮
@@blueeyedpunk If you look at the world population prior to 1800 you'll find that there was NO WAY that population were all stone masons which built EVERY cathedral, and stone building in the world, from the 1800's, 1700's, 1600's and so on... The historic population counts CANNOT support the Old World construction that is even in existence today... Much less the tens of thousands of stone structures that were destroyed during WWI and WWII which were ALL BUILT prior to 1800!
Sweet jesus said "let everything be built." 😮
Exactly! The aliens. No, not the illegal ones.
@33:49 this guy would equate "middle class" in so called rich countries. He already has more than most would wish for. many kids, farm, job, income.*^
It is weird to then talk of literacy rate when in west more and more, there are land, farm owners who practically dont do anything themselves, all is done by hired migrant workforce. Basis is to have grow food, then go to school if that helps.
Dr Hans Rosling...
(You already know the answer, I know you knew it too)
If you couldn't create a happy and meaningful life for 1 billions population, how would you make 11 billions population to have meaningful lives? (You know the answer obviously. Yes, I know)

This guy doesn't know what it coming. It is population decrease, rather sharp decrease that will come and cause terrible problems for many countries.
Where are your references? and who is funding this channel?
I despise those with the true ignorance these days. Not sure where they fit in those charts.... when presented with education, food, job opportunities, and a place to live they still decide to screw over their own communities. Not sure how this gets resolved in many inner cities in America.
Something is in control of the order posts are placed
Well, I assume now see that we are moving towards human extinction. Some countries are now experiencing negative population growth.

I think there’s a panic rn of too LITTLE children being born 😅
The developed world is depopulating while the 3rd world is overpopulating. So, we have both. But the developed world can't feed the excess population of the 3rd world. They are pulling the life-boat underwater and no amount of explanation can help that.
That girl in Bangladesh will never get married. She’s waiting till 25. Good luck.
Why do you say that?

Why would the British, or the Swedes, or anyone else, know the birth rate in Bangladesh, or of any other country. It's a useless question to try to prove a point.
🙈🙈🙈 are you clueless?
There is enough for everyone in the world at current trends , greedy capitalism never expected an economic system supporting that much.

I think you should come over to Meghalaya ,India. Villages here have 7/8 children per family, even until this day, the death rate per child is very minimal.
traffic jams are horrible in bigger cities as everyone from those villages go to city to find job. same everywhere in world.
you know the sad part of this have to be explained by a thinker to the modern people is like a kinder garden teacher so they can understand is a shame 😢
B S...let nature work it's magic, and stay the hell out of other countries' affairs. Can you also control the number of deaths?
For that you need active and strict border control everywhere. But hands down this is the most workable solution.
Philippines is so small but billions of people inside of it. Very slum country
Sickening really.
