David, I had a 87 which was the last year of the square body first year for TBI in trucks. I found that the gasket for the TBI to the intake manifold had a small crack in it and caused my high idle just thought I’d let you know

Old trucks are the best. I picked up a 1987 Dodge Ram D150 3 years ago thinking it would be a stopgap until I could get a newer truck. After replacing the suspension, brakes, fixing oil leaks, fixing the interior... it's now going nowhere. My neighbor has been trying to buy it for a few years now and I have to keep politely telling him no! :-)

That engine has a 4bbl intake with a 2bbl tbi. There’s a spacer between the TB and the intake. Gaskets on top and bottom of the spacer. The spacer has coolant flowing through it so mind the coolant hoses to and from it. Check power steering pressure switch as well as AC switch. They also increase idle when in use by way of the IAC. You can also spray around the intake with starter fluid or something else safe to use and see if the idle changes to locate where a vacuum leak may be.

I travel a fair amount, reside in Denver, go to Boulder often enough.
