    I didn't know the science of blooming phals but I'm actually doing it, by accident, what this video educated to do in my home and my mini phaleonopsis is blooming!
    BTW I've been watching your vids for years. Since the beginning of your of UA-cam carrier. Because of your vids on semi hydroponic I've decided to switch from my bark setup to leca. So thank you for detailed exploits in semi hydro.
    I'm disabled and I end up in the hospital often. I've been worried because my friends don't know how to take care of my orchids. So there's always a chance I could lose them. Switching to self watering and semi hydroponics will relieve the stress I feel when I have to leave them, and relieve my mind. I've thought long and hard about this and I think it'll be the best thing I can do for my babies. So thank you again!

    I enjoy all your programs. I am very interested how long do you keep the Phalaenopsis at the reduced temperature for reblooming?

    Most of my phals have started spiking since the natural temperature drop in my climate. This was a really informative video, thanks!

    I went to Home Depo today and they had normal size orchids and minis , I really wanted to buy some as they had a few I have never seen before , but as soon as I started picking through them I noticed they all had a light webbing on them , I dropped what I was doing and walked away and took my coat off in hopes I don't bring the spider mites home, the coat went straight into the washer with hot water.....I am very paranoid when it comes to plant bugs , my bonsai have been dealing with it for almost 2 years and I am hopeful I ALMOST HAVE IT UNDER CONTROLE NOW , I don't want my orchids to get it so I moved my bonsai plants to the garage and into the basement during summer and winter to help save all my other plants, spider mites are a nightmare.

    Dani - I have 7 Phalaenopsis Orchids and none of them spike. I water and fertilize but do not produce. I do have many roots and so they are healthy but can’t get spikes. Would really like to send you a photo of their living environment and would like to get you opinion.

    My Phals grow well here in Cambodia... I grow it in my room. They keeps growing and producing roots and leaves everyday, it seems like I don’t have to care much about the temperature here (28-30 daytime and 22-26 at night) just open the window and make the room ventilated.

    Every Phal that bloomed this summer (all of them) is growing a new spike or even two 😁 super happy. I didn't do anything special to them like cool down but they started doing it in September when the sun is low and hits them full on (which doesn't happen in summer)

    Excellent, thank you, I'm in a cold and humid environment and my phals are not super happy but it's the best I do atm. It's mostly been 16 degrees inside for the last week or so

    How long do they have to be in the temperature drop for a spike to appear? And do I keep it warmer when I see the spike? I have been putting mine in a north facing window with the window open over night for at least 12 hours. The temperature does drop almost 20 degrees Fahrenheit from day time temperatures. But one already has a fowering spike and a new spike on the way. What do I do with that one? Thanks for your help and sorry for all the questions.

    Dani, could I make a request? For we growers in the US, it’s a pain to constantly convert Celsius to Fahrenheit. Would it be possible to post the temp in Fahrenheit whenever you refer to temperatures in your videos? It gives me a headache to estimate 9/5 + 32 every time you give a temp. As always, I love your videos. Just a suggestion.

    @missorchidgirl GREAT VIDEO! NEVER FAIL! Hi I Pray you & family are doing well. I noticed you have your orchids in a variety of pots, do they have ventilation holes all over? I took mine out of the plastic pots and used clay pots but the pot didn't have holes, I would drain them after watering but the moss & sponge like thing that came in the pots retained water & root rot was the result, I'm going to repot them after cutting & treatment.

      She uses plastic pots with ventilation slits most of the time. She puts these pots inside decorative pots.

    I'm in Las Vegas and I notice my phalaenopsis need to have about a twenty degree drop in temperature before they get a flower spike. I also grow mine in the kitchen near the windows to get that drop in temperature. My stepmother who is from the Philippines says that her orchids have always bloomed after a drop in temperature.

    That is the most adorable orchid (is that a Phal?) at the very beginning of this video… I must have one! If you don’t mind, could you please tell me what that adorable orchid was? P.S. I love, love, L❤️VE your new Lechuza self-watering pots, I’m going to order some from Amazon myself. Oh, and L❤️VE your channel; my orchids have never looked better than I’ve ever managed to get in the years that I’ve grown them. Thank you so much for all of your help!

    Hi Danny is there any significance if phals produce long slender leaf instead of wider leaves in the same plant,without any stress,does that mean the plant is not getting what it needs,is there any relation to light exposure

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 років тому

      Hi, yes in my experience it is stress related. I have had it happen in a poor maintenance case (not enough water/feeding) and lower than ideal light. So it is one of the two, or a combination. Check feeding regimen and see if light could be improved, under the IKEA desk lamps they grow normal now, but I have them in big pots with self watering.

    Hey Danny, I purchased a denphals about 2-3 Weeks ago and I noticed that the new canes that grew when I purchased it kinda stop growing. And then, the bulbs are shriveled, even though I water it enough (the medium stays moist for about a week), and the root system aren't actually bad when I repotted it.
    I don't really know what's going on, because I've grown my other orchids (mostly normal phals and dend. Nobile) without any problem.
    Then I noticed another thing, the leaves are yellowing and falling, and they're the newer leaves from newer canes! I don't really know what's going on, if it's actually a pest or what. I can send you pictures of my denphals if you want. Can you help? Thanks!!

    All of my 80+ phals are in spike, some with 2-5 spikes, and my temperature never goes below 70f-21c... and that includes hybrids, species, minis, standards...You just never know.

    Hi Dani! I have a Q.
    My ICU orchid is growing a new leaf, it had only one root that is about 2 cm long, all the rest were lost to root rot, I have it in some sphagnum moss, and the leaves are floppy but hanging on.So I think it’s going to recover, but now! 3 weeks later It’s growing a new leaf! Why isn’t it focusing it energy on new roots?
    This is a mini phal btw, :)
    Thank you! :)

    Hi Danny, I live in the Southeast US and our temps basically go from high to low 80's during day time/high 60's low 70's night to low 60s day/ low 50's high 40 at night...Are the low 50s high 40s at night TOO cold that it will not spike? Or do we aim to achieve 64 degrees or below that will help cause flower spike initiation? Thanks! :-D

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 років тому

      Hey Ryan, I'm in the Seattle area and temps here went from summer to fall-ish overnight. We're even getting freezing temps at night. My Phals are spiking right now but definitely stalled from the fast transition. And by spiking, I mean I just now now saw them poking up their tiny heads. 😆 I hope that helps.

    I have my orchids on both eastern and western windows, I live in Poland. Right now all 4 phalenopsis are producing new flower spikes - some have even 2. They also have older flower spikes, which produce new spikes, so in some cases I will have 4 flowering spikes at once. It seems to me they never stop blooming, though some are with me for 7 or more years. Also the ludisia orchid is producing 3 flower spikes. Actually in general 8 out of 10 various orchids are blooming now and I have always some 18 degrees in the night and sun for some 10 hours per day, if it's not raining, so I'd agree the temperature is the key here.
