As I said in a previous comment, Peggy was the one that was the best match for Andy. Her interaction with Opie was unlike any other love interest of Andy. Peggy tucked Opie in bed, cooked great dinners, walked hand in hand going fishing, became blood brothers and sang together on the porch and around the campfire, just to mention a few examples.
She seemed to have the most chemistry with Andy. Oh well. Thanks Bob! Great video! Take care and God bless!

Peggy was a favorite of mine on Andy. And if anyone hasn’t ever seen the movie Paper Moon, with Ryan O’Neil and Tatum O’Neil, try to watch it, it’s a well done movie.

He and Joanna Moore were long divorced before he was with Farrah. He has a son with actress Leigh Taylor-Young; named Patrick. I don't think he was raised by Ryan. Maybe that was for the best. As I've never heard of him being in trouble. Like Tatum, Griffen and Redmond. Patrick may have had problems. But I don't want to do a deep dive on him to find out. ✌️

Thanks Bob for this AGS F & T on Miss Peggy. She was the only one that had the chemistry with Andy that seemed right and got along with Barney and Thelma Lou and really liked Opie.

Joanna Moore left because she was pregnant and legally deaf. Her hearing was restored somewhat after leaving the show I heard. I liked her alot. To bad it didn't work out.
She left the show because she had an affair with Andy Griffith and he was married at the time so she had to leave.

Count me in. I liked Peggy too. I wish she would have stayed on. You didn't mention that she had a hearing issue and was totally deaf while filming her TAGS episodes. (It was later corrected with surgery.) That may have contributed to her not coming back.
I LOVED Ms. Peggy!!!! I also LOVED Ms. Ellie, but there was something SPECIAL about Peggy!!!! She could have left to have Tatum and come back. Oh well, "Ancient History," right?!

Interesting that Ms Moore enjoyed her brief time on the show. But for her pregnancy.. Peggy would have been Opie's maw.you're right Bob, There was no way for the show to have hidden her pregnancy. Joanna fit her jeans as they were designed. I was always afraid that Andy's wondering ways scared her off. Andy was handsome. But , he was No Ryan O'Neal! I definitely think she was the best choice for Andy. Most of the issues with Helen Crump was how she got written. At times she could be outright mean. Suppose she treated her students that way. Her teaching career would have ended long ago.
This could be similar to what happened with Elinor Donahue. It was nothing against the actress. A lot of stuff went on behind the scenes. Tatum definitely earned that Oscar. She and her father also did Nickelodeon with Burt Reynolds and Brian Keith. Jodie Foster played Tatum's role in a short-lived TV version of Paper Moon. We haven't seen much of Tatum in recent years. Family life appears to be the biggest reason.

Old lady crump who was so mean and stuck up. She even controlled Andy, got all upset over a female family friend but yet she was hanging out with others guys a few times. Just a cranky, not attractive woman. Morning attractive about her. The funny haircut as well
Upon retrospect with your videos, it is amazing the show was able to weather so many "false starts" with the female love interest opposite Andy. That is a lot of recast and start overs in a very short time period. Shows the strength of character development and writing in the remainder of the cast.

Another great video! I also heard that she had an alcohol problem that caused production hold up on the show, as another reason she did not remain on the cast.
As I say in the pass that Miss Peggy should be Andy wife They should work with Joanna Moore and not let her go I like two episodes The first one when Miss Peggy Opie and Andy seat on the porch singing is that the episode when Aunt Bee went to see someone and Miss Peggy fix meals for Opie and Andy
I always thought they showed the Peggy episodes in the wrong order. It seems that Opie's Rival should have been the first one. Because Opie sure didn't mind her being around when Aunt Bee left and it seems a little hard to believe he could be that upset about her when Andy had been out with her before even if she started intruding on father and son things he shouldn't have been that bratty because there again that episode was written as if Peggy was just introduced but again it was a little much for Opie to act that way when Andy had gone out with Peggy before.

I do believe that most diehard fans of TAGS were hoping Andy and Joanne would end up together but they didn't get along very well off set. The same went for Ely walker. The chemistry between them was just not there and he character wasn't developed enough to encourage her to stay with the show.
The movie Tarun and her dad appeared in together was called PAPER MOON. If ibrecall there was one other movie they appeared in together..
Tatum was so adorable. I wish she had stayed a 9 year old girl.
I am sure that the biggest fans of TAGS were not rooting for Andy and hellen to marry. The first episode if Mayberry RFD upset me deeply, as a huge fan of the original show. Thatcwas rather only episode Andy and Helen were in.

I only know of a very few fans who preferred Helen Crump. Peggy remains my choice for the next Mrs. Taylor. Many factors figured in how things turned out. Suppose Barney and Thelma Lou had stayed out of Andy's love life.
Peggy was BY FAR the best girlfriend of Andy. She's perfect. Beautiful and smart. Ellie was nice but just wasn't believable as his love interest. Helen was just a grump even though who we all know Andy was having an affair.
when i was much younger i really liked miss ellie the best of all of andy's potential girlfriends/girlfriends, but as i got older the age difference became simply w-a-y too obvious. i still like miss ellie i just don't think she was the best match for andy. miss ellie should have stayed around, but not as a romantic interest; at least not for andy. perhpas she could have been a recurring character who some times dated one of the supporting players. however, for MANY years now i have felt that nurse peggy was the absolute best and really ONLY perfect fit for andy taylor. she really projected warmth making her the best step-mom for opie. she just seemed so full of life and energy. she had a presence about her which went even beyond her own natural physical beauty. i never cared for helen crump. in fact i never found her attractive until i got older. i LOVE the actress julie adams and her character on TAGS, but honestly she seemed too ridgid and formal for andy. when sue ann langdon took over the role her approach to the character was totally different, but then she became more of an air head. ii am most definately team NURSE PEGGY. her son is on facebook. i have spoken with him a very few times. i have even sent youtube episodes of work she did for tv prior to peyton place to him and he and i have discussed what a truly great actress she was all the while also having a great deal of star power. thanks for this video.
Hate to sound a sour note but there is extensive proof that Tatum's parents were TERRIBLE to her at times. It is the truth.
