    Why did she not check for placement before giving the medication?

      she didn't check for placement and she didn't aspirate stomach contents, this is a pretty poor skills video.

    IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO USE THE SAME SYRINGE TO DILUTE AND MIX DIFFERENT DRUGS: WE HAVE DRUG-DRUG INTERACTIONS, WHICH WE CANNOT CONTROL!

    Do you need to keep head of bed elevated during and after giving meds by NG tube?

    • @jeffreyo8496
      @jeffreyo8496 2 роки тому +4

      Yes. Risk for aspiration is always possible with an NG tube. Same with a Peg tube. Unless it’s contraindicated for that patient, you should raise the head of the bed.

      I think the bed is up too high bc you can put them in fowlers and keep the bed in the lowest position.

    Why would you give so much fluid when giving meds? When giving meds is okay to mix them and flush them all together, most likely if there is a drug to drug interaction it is your job to know which meds are those, not just assume they all do. You will never get done giving meds 🤦🏻‍♀️ specially if have 2-3 patients in ICU. I’m sorry but this video is incorrect. You should be able to flush meds with the plunger because if not every time you let the hole uncovered air is getting in. You should fix this video.

      She is teaching this skill the way it is taught in nursing school. We learn specifically, for the purposes of our skill checks, that medications are not to be mixed prior to administration (yes, I know they all end up in the same place anyways), BUT she is teaching textbook. Additionally, we are taught that both the gravity method and the plunger are acceptable. It is based solely on facility policy and personal preference.

      Another reason you wouldn't give all the meds mixed together is if something were to happen and clog the NG tube while the meds are being administered there's no real way of knowing how much of each medicine the patient actually received. If you know exactly how much water was mixed with exactly which medication then you can at least get a close estimate based on how much fluid is left in the tube if they have to remove it.

      Lol never in 20 years has it become clogged while giving meds - you always make sure it isn’t clogged prior
      And never have I crushed them separately
      Med surg has modem than two - 3 patients who has time for that
      This is JUST nursing school

      @@meganklune3119we have patient ratio 4-5 on day shifts 5-6 nights. And a lot of ngt pts have like 10+ meds easily. there’s NO WAY i can dissolve all of them separately and flushing each of them with 10mL water between. And if they were to really concerns of drug interactions and not giving together, syringe should be replaced per each meds, imagine if you have 10+ meds to do that?
