Back in Whiskey Peak, Zoro said he doesn't sleep unless he feels safe about where he is. And here he's sleeping being lugged around by Sanji _in a warzone._ The trust these two idiots have in each other.
It's also a hilarious comedy scene. Up there with the "push the severely injured old man back into the ground" and "Chopper is Law's hat now" moments.

I'm one of those people, absolutely. Commentary heavy Merphy is the best Merphy. This section has so much to unpack and it easily consists of the most hype parts of Wano. RoofPiece is incredible. "How far will your ceiling go?" is one of my favorite moments. Sanji learning to ask for help for some reason really spoke to me as he's been the guy throughout the series to go on and try and solve issues on his own. The Robin segment really was great. There are so many great moments. I do love how it immediately doesn't start with Kaido vs Luffy like we typically do. Too many conquerors for one roof top, it seems. Zoro being carried around by Sanji is by far one of the best visual gags and I will die on that hill. Momo has quickly become one of my favorite characters but damn, Kaido really is up there as one of the worst anime fathers.
Edit: I'm super excited for Mephy to catch up but there's also this feeling of dread knowing we won't be getting these deep dives for a while with three chapter reviews.
I think we will be getting deep dives.. thematic ones. She said she wanted to do this.
Judge is still worst father to me in One Piece.
I love how it was not immediatly luffy vs kaido, but the yonko vs the worst generation
I mean, wg vs Big Mom is the less important fight so it had to come first
And I love them splitting up makes perfect sense... Big Mom was such a menace in that fight that it was literally impossible for them to take down Kaido while she is nuking them from above... Getting Big Mom out of the rooftop and leaving Kaido for Luffy was the only right move to make but they held their ground so well!!!
Nico Robin chapter is one of the most emotionally Cathartic chapter in the series.

Sanji asking for help is a great scene actually. Before whole cake he never once asked for help, and always had this martyr tendency.
All throughout the journey he tried and failed to sacrifice himself for the crew. Back in enies lobby he took a beating against kalifa and still didn't ask for help, thriller bark he tried to give his head for luffy but got knocked out by zoro, dressrosa he stopped doflamingo to let the ship escape, but ended up in the ship as well, then the whole marriage thing with big mom he tried even to be non-chalant about it in his letter, but still didn't work to prevent the crew to follow him.
Great observation haki there!
For sure it was the character development after Luffy forced him to ask for help at whole cake that made this scene so great for Sanji and how he has refused to do it throughout the series
He also was tactical being so loud, it made them aware they were watched by a network, hich cant be accidental.

You mentioned Ashura Doji being the voice of reason, with him telling the rest to not trust the fake Oden. However, when Ashura slices the fake Oden, notice how he only slices his cheek, just in case it actually was the real one. I loved that moment.

Black Maria’s wheel is called a Wanyudo, a type of Japanese Yokai. The legend behind it is actually really disturbing.
The Wanyudo was rolling down a street in a town when it meets the gaze of a woman. It tells the woman to look back at her son, when she does she notices that her son is gone. She looks back at the Wanyudo and sees it eating her son-limb by limb

I love your comment so much, my first thought when I read this scene was, this is the first time I remember (although I am only on my first read through) Sanji actually asking for help and after whole cake island it just hit different - especially thinking about how, time and time again, he's been willing to throw his life away in similar situations, not saying he has a death wish - in Enies Lobby he told Nami he didn't want to die but he would to avoid hitting a lady - but he didn't value his life as highly as he did other peoples. E.g., the Baratie when he said the best way to repay Zef was putting his life on the line to fight that guy (and Luffy told him the old man didn't save him to throw his life away and that's a terrible way to repay him), thriller bark when he said to Zoro 'what about your dream' and that Kuma should kill him like his dreams weren't as important and then WCI where he was ready to give up his future for the sake of his crew, and then die with his family instead of running away (I'm sure I'll pick up more on the re-read) but I appreciate how deep this part of him goes and how well Oda's written it so that this moment landed so well and was really satisfying
Brooke being a musician and having a crew of musicians plays a part in the way he handles situations like in jazz you support and give each band member a solo and keep the established rhythm going. I think that’s what Brooke is for to keep the rhythm of the fight going in favor of the straw hat crew
Yeah when she was talking about his role I was thinking: Of course, he is a musician. I really thought she would point it out at some moment.
Bringing up jazz reminded me that Brook's favorite instrument to play is the violin & the violin has an interesting history in jazz. Apparently, it was very uncommon to include a violinist & many claimed it unsuitable for jazz. Things changed.
This is something I never thought about even as someone who used to be a performing musician. Good catch, my guy
I always think to that scene when the Rumbar Pirates died and Brook is the last alive. He says, "why?! leaving only the accompaniment left?!" Brook can play solo, but he doesn't prefer to, he likes playing the accompaniment in a group band. It's his place to stand beside and offer a helping hand, just like how he was with Yorkie when the Rumbar Pirates were in their heyday.
I live for comments like this, my enjoyment of one piece is somehow increased again haha
You would not believe how divided the fanbase was when sanji called for help, but I completely agree that it’s a great character moment, respecting Robin to not only not need to be “something to protect” but someone who can hold her own.
Also, Robin hadn’t had a major fight since skypia, so this was nice to see

Divided on what? Sanji called her knowing it was a trap and called her knowing robin was going to win. What was the divide about? That's what happened, that was the intent. Robin makes it clear, that that was the intent, went as far as calling him worthy of being the "wings of the future king of pirates." What is the divide?

@@edwardnowakowski5990 if it's up for interpretation I can understand being frustrated with sanji, it was made very clear what the intent was. I don't appreciate when people purposely misinterpret the intent of an author. It's lame. I don't understand what the divide is. Sanji doesn't hit women, Black Maria needs to be taken down, sanji screams for robin, the whole crew of the strawhats understand the situation, like she says robin comes prepared and claps Black Maria. Sanji even later has an internal struggle because he thought he blacked out and hit a woman while he was in that suit. I mean. It's all there.
There is absolutely no denying he did that knowing robin wins that fight. Period

IMO the true mark of a die-hard One Piece addict is when you start re-experiencing old parts of the stories through other people while simultaneously caught up and how that experience of the same long-term story staggered in time gives depth to the current story as well as makes you appreciate the older parts more in retrospect. Welcome to the club :)
As a firm believer of Arthurs theory about One Piece, the fact that this literally is one of the best examples of how One Piece has connected so many people to enjoy it together simply makes me... "laugh" :)
That panel of zoro and Sanji performing a dual attack was amazing. They had not had such a panel since Fishman Island, ten years before.
I'm all in for Wano act 3 being one of the best streaks of chapters in the series.

That scene is SO GOOD... when they say that they can see Luffy becoming pirate king if they win. Completing each other's sentences and using two attacks at the same time are such anime cliches but they are so insanely cool 🤣

As a point of clarification, when Kaido said that Yamato was the child of "ogres", that was just the closest translation available in English. The term he actually used, "Oni" is a type of demon found in traditional Japanese folklore, often depicted wielding a kanabo, a type of wooden club with multiple regularly placed metallic protrusions, which is very reminiscent of Kaido's own club
There are so many great moments in these chapters. Who's Who and Jinbe exposition was number one for theory piece, but the amount of hype for Robin clutching Maria into oblivion was like no other.
With Tama, you've gotta remember that the current situation is the impossible. Her fruit only tames animals, not people. It's only working on smile users because they're mutants who bent the knee to Kaido & used their freedoms to destroy her home. So, consider it community service lol. It makes you think though, because she is domesticating them, which is how we have pets. Some owners are horrible, some are great.
Cruel people who thrive by taking away other people's freedom don't get to complain when someone else takes away theirs. It's as simple as that.

@@ajdoku865 i get your point to an extent, but Oda really played with fire with this, so i hope it gets addressed. I hope it's revealed that this power actually had a time limit and at a certain point they started following her on their own free will, rather than being tamed the whole time. It would be a horrible unintentional message to send imho if they stay tamed forever.
@@allhailtheking6039 I get it, in principle, and if it carries on after the arc ends fair enough. I doubt it because Tama is sweet and I suspect it plays into her ability (kinda like a reverse soul pocus).
Still it'd be one thing if they were innocent or unconnected victims, like the toys in dressrosa. We've watched these guys for 2 acts, being scum without consequences. Remember in Act 1, when batman tried to kill Otsuru or that panel where the mother was contemplating killing her baby. That's the people we're sudden defending on principle, as if this turn around isn't fair or just.
If nothing else, its a twist on the Momotaro folklore, and we should started considering if our pets are slaves.
@@ajdoku865 Nah it isn't to defend them, they deserve what is coming to them i see eye to eye with you on that 100%, it is not them the problem for me, but the slavery part being painted in a good light unintentionally by Oda just because it serves a good cause, like Tama is not a morally gray character who would make compromises for the greater good, like you said she is a sweet little girl and one of the kindest characters i'd argue, and that is exactly why i have a problem with it, because it looks like the message being sent is it is okay to make people basically slaves if it serves a good cause, and it rubs the wrong way when this comes from a morally pure character because it can be interpreted as the author agreeing to this notion.
Sanji calling out to Robin works on so many levels, not just from a character growth perspective, but also on a strategic level. By screaming out for Robin, he let’s all the Straw Hats know that Robin is being targeted and let’s them know that they’re being watched.
The trust Zoro has in Sanji to be comfortable sleeping with everything going on is wonderful.
Both Robin and Chopper embracing their old labels that they felt as a curse and flipping it into their own power to fight for the crew is so good
Brook is the most experienced member of the crew overall, second most equipped to deal with other Pirates of the New World other than Jimbei. Maybe not in strength, but he just understands so much of pirate politics.
I’m not sure if you noticed this but one of the samurai in the cave has an uncanny resemblance to Zoro. He’s also the one kawamatsu connects to Zoro when talking about why he let hiyori give Zoro enma.
Also the resemblance between ryuma the one who Zoro fought in thriller bark and Zoro. In appearance and both being one eyed samurai.
I was so looking forward to you reviewing black Maria vs Robin and was really curious how you were gonna take that whole scene with sanji calling out for help. A lot of people didn't take that scene too well but I absolutely loved it for what it was and what it meant.. it's so enjoyable watching your videos and I absolutely love commentary heavy merph lol

@@davidyang1548 there are those in the community who don’t care for character development and just watch for the fights and power-scaling. I think those people may be the ones who this scene did not vibe with. I agree that it really helped Sanji’s character development and growth here as well as Robin’s so as others have said, win/win.

Among all the gags that oda pulled off the "this is just how a dinosaur fight" is my absolute fave
Many fans felt that Sanji looked bad in chapter 1005 for asking Robin to help him. At the time, they were mostly concerned with how “lame” Oda had portrayed Sanji. They failed to recognize that this moment was the culmination of 300 chapters of patient character progression. The lesson Sanji had learned on Whole Cake Island was finally being exercised right before our eyes. No longer would he operate as the sacrificial lamb or failed martyr we had seen in the past. Without shame, he asked a member of his crew to put themselves in the line of fire for him - and a WOMAN no less.
On the other hand, Robin is a character that has time after time been treated as a damsel in distress. As a little girl she was saved by Jaguar D Saul, then spared by Aokiji on several occasions. In Alabasta, it was Luffy who rescued her from Crocodile (who betrayed her). In Enies Lobby, it’s the entire SH crew who come to her aid. Thriller Bark has Brook rescuing her from a zombie spider monkey (ironic). In Sabaody, as the second to last person left, she reaches out to Luffy in desperation against Kuma. During the timeskip she’s spared from imprisonment by the revolutionaries, finding refuge with Luffy's father and brother, no less. Even in Dressrosa, as she’s given the task of protecting Rebecca from Diamante, it is Kyros who fights on behalf of the two in the end.
Sanji asking Robin for help shows extreme growth, and retroactively injects Robin with a new sense of purpose/value that she’s seldom received throughout the series. It's a gesture that meant a tremendous amount considering Sanji is several times stronger than Robin to begin with.
As Shounen readers, we have an inherent value system that rewards characters for their physical accomplishments. So when Sanji is put into negative situations or is meant to look weak, we feel that Oda hates him or is “dropping the ball”. We fail to ask “Why does Oda keep putting Sanji into these unsavory scenarios?” Rarely does a writer like Oda do things without a reason. Underneath all the negativity was a compelling narrative of a character learning to love himself, as another character is given a chance to shine in the role of the savior for once.
Also speaking of Dressrosa, she reaches out to Usopp the same way she did on Sabaody before getting turned into a Toy by sugar.
She‘s never been in action scenes, but she always was my favorite Straw Hat because I just loved the way she addresses the other straw hats and how she translates normal names to luffy‘s stupid nicknames for him.
Obviously all the history dumps we get with her were also a main reason for me liking her so much. So when Sanji just thought „Ok, she wants Robin, I give her Robin because she can handle it herself“ I was so exited and Oda didn’t disappoint in the slightest.
When the chapter of her Demon Form dropped I couldn’t stop talking about it to my friends who don’t know anything about one piece because you had the feeling that you just read something you will never forget for the rest of your life.
Oda really knocked it out of the park with this one

Funny thing about Kaido's crew is that he's got a collection of losers. People that instead of choosing death with their ideals and dreams intact now serve him in a defeated state, physically and emotionally. Not the best type of people to surround yourself with...
I like Zoro’s “I stole it” line because it feels like he’s making a goofy joke considering he’s a pirate now. Especially with the grin he has when saying it
We all know Dinosaur hunt their prey like that. Oda is 100% correct for Ancient creatures Paleontology.
I LOVE the dynamic that Oda Sensei creates between the characters. It’s never boring and never gets old. And I soooo appreciate Luffy’s humility as well, which is something he’s never lost even after the time skip and becoming as strong as he has…it’s ingrained in him and I LOVE it!
This series always amazes me with its scope. One day im navigating complex politics related to the fall of a civilization. the other im learning about how dinosaurs hunted irl.
"Law is a team player but will always be grumpy about it" is honestly a pretty great summary of him.

Because we're heavily invested in it. I would assume it's part of your childhood as well (it is in my case). Been a fan of this manga/Anime for half of my life. I get the same feeling with Harry Potter and Pixar classics.
I Love how at the beginning of the story Merphy wasn´t to sure about the absurdist part of the story but know she totaly accepts and loves laser shooting and helicopter transforming dinosaur peopole without questioning it. xD

The fact that Zoro's king's haki was subtley introduced back in Enies Lobby and he is the first pirate other than Emperors to use Supreme Conquerer's is awesome. And Zoro unknowingly helping luffy with this is fascinating.
I don't think he's there first... Dracule is probably capable of the same. Mihawk probably didn't really teach him(otherwise Zorro wouldn't known what exactly he was doing) but Zorro probably picked it up instinctively after training with mihawk as long as he did. Afterall, mihawk is known to regularly spar with shanks

About the pill they gave to zoro, the consequences of taking it were mentioned; that the damage would be twice as worse once the effects wore off; more like a temporary physiologic painkiller than anything else. The pill being introduced in Zou is one of those plot points that I only believe it actually happened cuz everyone says so cuz I sure as hell dont remember it 🤣 right alongside the tamatebako box hahaha

With the side effects of the drug, what is the point in ever using it unless there’s an urgent need? Jack had left Zou and most of the citizens and warriors were still bandaged up regardless. So why use medicine that makes u feel WORSE afterwards when there’s no immediate need for the healing benefit?
@@mahmii0174 if you need people able to fight, you can gather one easily between the less injured, also when Nekomamushi get a shot from Chopper, he started to act like he was healed, Chopped yelled at him saying "this is not an instantaneous healing medicine, you still need to rest and avoid movement" then he proceed to chill.

I love the Demon form especially because of her backstory hating all the other kids because they bullied her for being a demon child. In the family of the straw hats it doesn't matter what you are you can do or be anything you want in order to support each other. It just reminds me of the same thing that chopper does where he hated being rejected as a monster but if it's for Luffy or his friends he'll gladly become one.
About Nami and Tama; Nami has shown to step up whenever kids get involved. She first did this in Punk Hazard, when they first met the giant kids, she was the one who decided they were going to take care of them, and she did the same thing now with Tama. I'm guessing this is because of what happened to her and when it happened to her. Also Tama's power only works on animals and smile users so I guess that's why Oda doesn't see it as a bad thing. I mean, it's like having a character with telepathic powers that uses them to de-escalate a fight vs a character with telepathic powers who uses them to make an entire town follow his will. Both are manipulating the will of others but ultimately one's doing it in a very particular moment for a very particular reason and the other's doing it for very evil reasons and for a while (and I know Tama's been controlling some of these guys for a while now, but I have to assume she'll leave them free once the fight's over).
I love how Brook's role in a lot of arcs is as a supporting role since he's the musician of the crew, and most of the time really good music will strengthen any scene from a film or show. Like the sign of a great soundtrack is that it supports the scene without drawing your attention from the moment it is attached to
Sanji being the best written character since zou. Abolsutely amazing writing from oda with his character.

This part of the story has brought out such a strange mix of reactions from the community. I remember people continually saying with each new chapter how, "this is the best chapter of the raid so far", or "this is the best chapter for [insert character] so far" over and over throughout the weeks, and yet people aren't connecting the dots that this is one of the best arcs of One Piece. Every damn chapter is just so densley packed full of goodness.
"One Piece is crazy good this week" is pretty much the most consistent sentence of my life at this point 🤣
@@adoniscreed4031 with the exclusion of kinemon, kanjuro, kiku ALL SURVIVING from Kaido. And the explanation in particular for kinemon surviving was absolute garbage. I wanna say Wano has always been hitting peak fiction, but there have been quite a few chapters that were just not good let alone great or amazing.
All emotional attachment to characters that “died” has gone out the window. To the point where IF there is an actual death, many of our first thoughts are going to be whether or not said character comes back. Tension in this arc has been way lower than it should be.
@@HazzyDevil We've seen people survive: without food for weeks, city destroying bombs exploding point blank, multiple lightning strikes, deadly poison (multiple times), execution style moves (Pound), skull shattering impacts, and so SO much more. What would posses you to think getting stabbed once is enough to kill someone in One Piece?

@@HazzyDevil I'm saying that this is entirely consistent with the story. If you want to stick with the sentiment of "nor do those justify themselves" that's fine. People's ridiculous durability in One Piece can throw some off, but don't act like it hasn't been consistent. Kiku, Kinemon, and Kajuro surviving is not surprising in the slightest.
Sanji asking for help to Robin is one of favorite Sanji moment.
Same it was an amazing moment for Sanji's character showing his growth after the events of whole cake island.
What I didn't like was that most of the fandom was calling him a coward for doing that.
@@cosmojames week to week reaction for the fandom have been kinda annoying for a while now. I was surprised to see so many people didn't like the Sanji moment and it went on until Robin herself said what Sanji did there was great a few chapters later.
@@nii9995 It seems to me that part of the fandom (which I believe is just a vocal minority) just mindlessly read One Piece. They keep waiting for the cliche shounen they got used to from watching isekais, even though they barely have any reason to expect anything like that. And they complain every single time.
That how high will your ceiling go moment is so big. One of the hypest things in all of OP... remember, Luffy is only fucking 19. And he's already able to fight on par with the strongest people in the world. In a world where it's pretty much unilaterally implied that strength just continues to increase with age, at least up to a certain point.
On the special pill that heals Zoro, I would just like to point out that similar plot devices and actual in-world items have been used before. It has a drawback that comes after it's used. The significant thing now is that we've never seen it used for Zoro. The only other time it's been used on a main character is Luffy with Ivankov's hormone boost. The other times have been the guardians of Alabasta that drank a special kind of water that made them strong but end up killing them. Then there's the pills that Hody took (which didn't kill him but it still greatly affected him afterwards). And then there's the Rumble Ball themselves that abuse of it has turned Chopper incapable of combat before and during this section of the arc as well.
Point is, it's rare but it does exist in the fringes of the setting and the use of that pill will for surely have consequences for Zoro.
If I remember correctly, "Nika" is an onomatopoeia for laughter, thing that made people think about a strong connection between Sun God Nika and Joyboy.

One Piece is often symbolic… maybe Tama and her “face cheeks” (amazing term, I love it so much) represents the ability of an innocent to soften the hearts of a nation, cultivate tenderness and protectiveness, and to consequently raise revolution against tyranny. When she garners the loyalty of Kaido’s army with her “face cheeks” (dango), Oda could be painting a picture of how innocence and childishness (literally her “baby fat”) sews doubt in the hearts of even the tyrant’s peons.

It wasn't we saw the minks suffering from injuries after 10 days from Jack yes they are recovering fast but fast as like days not minutes
And the mink doctor said we don't use it bcz it's dangerous it helps temporary then you will suffer more than before so if they use it in Zou it means that they will suffer more not recover fast

One of the reasons Luffy is connected to the Nika is because he brings the dawn. It's been a very common thing for in the series with Luffy bringing back the sun and clearing away the darkness
Ah dammit you read the viz translation. In the scanlations, they translated it as " one of the wings of the pirate king". I heard somewhere that the viz translator also agreed with this translation and realized his mistake. So sanji and zoro both are the wings of the future pirate king.
I love the little parts of Yamato's backstory we've gotten. The line "samurai do not get hungry" has been prevalent ever since we picked up Momo and Kinemon on Punk Hazard, and we've seen it used in many different scenarios.
Momo and Kinemon were too proud to accept food, and thats what lead to Momo eating his Devil Fruit. It was shown to be a hindrance and used mostly as a gag.
Now we see it again in Yamato's flashback, and its hoisted up as something to strive for a be proud of.
There's still a lot we don't have all the asnwers to in this arc. Suoer curious to see how you'll feel once you're caught up! Some incredible stuff is still ahead.

I want to talk about chapter 1007 a little bit, when Chopper cures the Ice Oni virus, and I won't defend it because normally I would agree with what Merphy said about it on the last video.
But I want to talk about my personal experience with this chapter and why I actually love it.
I'm from Brazil, and this chapter came out on March of 2021 and at that time the situation with the pandemic was really horrible here, with hundreds or even thousands of people dying every day.
Every time I looked up the news I felt more and more hopeless about everything and One Piece was my last refuge, where I could go and just forget everything for a minute.
So when this chapter came out and it was about Chopper healing the disease and saving everyone I couldn't hold back my tears. I just felt like there was hope for us too 😢
My headcanon is that Oda was aware of the situation in the world and specifically solved this situation without any consequence to send a message of hope, and that message did reach me 😁
I also love the 'help me robin' moment. It just adds so much to Sanji. He loves women obviously. And some of the ways he loves women are a bit much, for sure. But he also loves them as heroes. They are the source of everything good and happy and pure in his life, and though he does feel compelled to protect them, that is not necessarily because he views them as weak, but because he is following the example they have set. He is honoring what women have done for him. And his absolute lack of hesitation or conflictedness in calling out for Robin's help was at once surprising and completely consistent with his character. It recontextualizes all of Sanjis weird views of women. Like, I love that he must have been thinking 'Oh, you're going to let me have Robin come save me? Thanks! Because I know Robin and she will come and she will save me and she will wreck you. Such a convenient out you've given me'.
I'm not saying some things about Sanji aren't an issue when it comes to him and the ladies. But this moment showed there is so much complexity to those views and his character which has been shaped largely by women. And some of those views aren't an issue. Some are beautiful and more evolved than even we as readers who often dismiss Sanji as sexist or a perv, which there is that part of him, hold. I, like many, felt Sanji calling for Robin was not a good look, but then instantly got leveled by the realization that I was being the jerk, and I just got taught a lesson by one of the most notorious pervs in anime, a genre with many pervs. It's hard to pass judgment on Sanji as a whole but Oda, in one moment here, added so much complexity to Sanjis character without really technically changing anything about Sanji but just revealing something that was already there but wasn't so obvious. Just the depth in this moment. Oda, the guy can write.
The most underrated panel is Killer running on Kaido’s Dragon form and spinning his blades on his scales
I find the innocence of Yamato extremely endearing. It was first exhibited in chapter 986, where Oda showed how much she trusted her father to be loving to her, when she was shocked by the bombs on her wrist. And in her flashback chapter, as he throws her in the dungeon, she cannot believe it. Regardless of whether or not Kaido gets a sympathetic back story, Yamato is always going to be what she is, a girl without an ounce of cynicism. Had Vivi joined the crew in their journey, she would have been that character. I cannot help but feel Yamato would fill in her shoes quite well. Also, I have a feeling she and chopper would make good friends, being the innocent ones in the crew..

I feel quite sad for Yamato at that moment looking back, despite everything that happened to her, despite him choosing to stand against his father, there was still a part of her that wanted to believe in Kaidou, only for it once again to be proven what kind of man he is
I love that Oda changed one of his dinosaur design slightly to reflect recent discoveries, only to turn around and have a triceratops into a helicopter
i love your analysis of momo’s character. I feel like people tend to forget that when toki sent them into the future, in real time oden’s death is still very fresh in their minds.
There is some amazing subtext in the whole Sanji asking Robin to fight Black Maria indeed.
Not only does Sanji prove that he has learned his lesson about trusting a crewmate to cover for his weakness (and Robin, a woman, who will be put in danger in this fight, to boot) but he also implicitly shows that he doesn’t care what will happen to the (again) lady adversary, Black Maria, anymore, who just threatened his well-being in a surprisingly heinous way.
And he definitely knows Robin is not about to show any mercy in the ensuing fight. And he doesn’t care. I can’t stress this enough.
That’s a lot of character growth for him and truly one of my favourite moments in general.

Momo had one of the most impactful and emotional speeches I've ever seen in One Piece outside of maybe Usopp in Enies Lobby during this stretch of chapters. He continues to amaze me as a character.
The worst (best) thing about the "Tricerocopter" moment is that it is based off real batshit crazy theories about how dinosaurs lived. Stegosaurus using its plates to glide, Iguanodon only having a small opening in its mouth for its tongue to pull food like a tentacle, Sauropods having trunks, fire breathing Parasaurolophus.
That with conqueres haki is a technique that luffy learned while 1010 and Zoro awakened his conqueres Haki in the same chapter that’s what kaido meant Zoro in that one moment applied conqueres haki on his blade. Wich is the same thing that luffy does with kaido in the same chapter

The anime really helps with Hyogoro’s likeability especially with his interactions with and thoughts on Luffy, yakuza friends introduction & interactions, and his ties with Oden being fleshed out. The Anime fleshes out other key Wano characters, such as the Scabbards, Otama, Otoko, Onimaru, and Hirori. The Wano arc of the anime is just great in general.
The Pacing is horrendous
@@shahriarfahim5862 The Wano arc really has not had that flaw unlike when compared to past arcs. In fact it helped expand many important scenes that the manga glossed over or outright skipped.
In the Anime, I actually felt bad for Hyogoro losing his cute wife! That barely made it into the manga…..

Honestly the fact that Marco past his prime was just barely breaking a sweat against king and queen and yet Marco in his prime lost the payback war is pretty telling about how well blackbeard has kept his cards hidden

“Don’t underestimate Nico Robin” is just a crazy line and it gets better when you see the fight
It's so adorable to see Merphy react to laser dinosaur the same way Luffy and Chopper react to anything that a little kid would think is cool, like Franky transformations and ninjas, I almost can see the star in her eyes and I love it!!!
The fact that the Demon Aura 9 swords style might have always been Zoro using Conqueror's Haki subconsciously ever since Enies Lobby is incredible to me. Like if you go back to the Mr. 1 fight in Alabasta he clearly was tapping into Observation and probably also Armament.
Zoro might have actually used all 3 types of haki even before Luffy without even knowing.
Luffy is using conquerors haki in drum island and possibly earlier. If all the paneling is meant to be similar and the zoom in on a face staring directly at the reader is a conquerors moment, there's a chance Luffy uses it in chapter 1, when he yells at Shanks
Funny thing is to see anime fight between luffy and Zoro at whiskey peak……they’re were going so hard that there was friction in the air and smal lightening came out ……..

I dont think you're supposed to be specifically deeply invested in Hiyogorou. He is a representative for the samurai and freedom fighters and someone that Luffy befriended. Most of the emotional investment in him is that he is now one of our friends and a person who helped organize our revolution. That and the fact that he was a prisoner of war and would have died in prison if not for Luffy. Beyond that hes just a voice for the Samurai/Wano fighters.

I also hurt for Momo. I really think he hits differently than a lot of other One Piece characters. His arc has been fascinating. I feel like this increases the weight behind the theory that Momo will carry on with the Straw Hats. I think we will see some continued great growth from him as he learns his powers and he will be able to retain some of his childhood in the adventure with the very silly Straw Hats.

Besides Luffy, Sanji is the best written character in One Piece and you know he's Oda's favourite. He kept Sanji's backstory secret for 20+ years and dedicated an entire arc just for him. Oda who said he didn't want to write romance in OP ultimately gave Sanji a love interest. Sanji is also the person who saves the crews from BM not by fighting but with his culinary skill.

I feel like one of the major differences/parallels between the straw hats and the scabbards is how reliant the leader is on his subordinates. Oden was carrying the scabbards on his shoulders, figuratively, and literally at the end, but Luffy is a leader who has the humility to step down and let himself be carried, as you said at the beginning of the video.
