Man, it's like you just keep stacking lies on top of each other and when the house of cards falls apart, something's gotta give. Unfortunately, this guy took the craziest path out.
I found MrBallen podcast on my Audible but they started with episode 56 because he was just added. Now I can watch with you which I love to do and listen to him when I'm not able to watch tv or as a bedtime story! I hope you keep doing these MrBallen videos! Even other true crime would be aweome!
Jamal, if you think this one was crazy you need to check out his other story called Teen gets pushed into brutal Death Trap, that one is unbelievable and heartbreaking.
The video of Chandler going door to door, he had no cane that I could see and didn't seem to have any trouble standing there shifting weight from leg to leg while he waited for the door to open
This was considered "local" news in my area. Horrifying situation. I really feel bad for the brother, who lost his entire family over this. It makes me wonder, have I crossed paths with him? They say that psychopaths are more common that we realize. You never really know who you're standing next to. I also have to wonder how many red flags had he shown over the years that his family and friends brushed off because he was so good with his public persona.
My God, how sickeningly sad that Chandler killed his parents AND burnt them. I can't believe how horrific a man would do such a thing. He is just INSANE!!!!!
38:46 "Like, I felt like I was lied to." When I saw your reaction to the mention of the supposed accident that caused the injuries he claimed to have, I automatically thought, "This is gonna be awful when he finds out he's feeling bad for a lying sociopath."
I actually watched the Chandler Halderson trial live earlier this year when it happened. The channel didn't run a delay or scrub the footage so when the jury was shown the dad's dismembered torso it was also in the live video feed. Yikes. That was wild. Crazy to think this kid killed his parents, cut them up, then tried to burn their remains in a fireplace, then (when that didn't work) had to dispose of the bodies elsewhere. Glad this guy got life in prison (since WI doesn't have the DP).
That’s insane. I’ve disappointed basically everyone in my life at some point, in some way, but it was never intentionally; we all do. I’m sure it’ll happen again, it’s just part of being human. That is next level evil. I’d rather get on my knees and beg for forgiveness than murder my own family. Although that’s way way more than I’ve ever screwed up, still. Frickin psycho.
Seriously. I went to college, straight out of HS, for pre-med & barely passed... 1.2GPA. I tried for 1-1/2 yrs to get my average raised & it only went to a 2.2. Never, not once, did I think to take my failure out on anyone else. I stepped back, licked my wounds for a while, then regrouped, & moved on to 2 other professions. When I was 32, I went back to college & attained my AA, ASN, & BSN. I worked in my profession for 20 years until I was diagnosed with dementia. And Still, never, not once, did I think to take my situation out on anyone else. It's difficult to imagine what someone was thinking, in order to do something so heinous to someone else, especially their parents. Even if their parents had set unrealistically high goals for their kid(s), who does something like that? Mindblowing!
@Dee Dee I floated right through elementary and middle school without really ever doing homework. Basically straight A’s. Got to HS and just kept on not giving a damn, got like a 3.7 and went on to college. Didn’t work so well there, but I made it through eventually. If I could go back I’d smack younger me in the back of the head, but such is life. Hindsight is 20/20. I don’t need hindsight to know not to bullshit everyone around me that deeply and then kill them because I screwed up. Own it, just move on and do better next time.
I'm not finished with the video yet, but am I the only one who finds Chandler's question "How are you getting to the cabin" odd? And the parents' response of "some friends" equally odd? It was 2021 and most families that can be described like he's describing this family have at least one vehicle. Maybe I'm reading into it too much. Edit - Well damn! I didn't see that coming!
I agree with you. That vague... "we're going in a friend's car" was definitely weird especially if they were bringing tools, equipment, or even replacement windows with them to fix the ones that were broken. The chance that there would be a store near a cabin that carried windows would be slim to none, I would think. And how come none of the police called the neighbors, by the cabin, who notified the parents that their windows were broken?
You should watch his interrogation. To say he's a piece of work is a massive understatement. The best part of the interrogation video is when they handcuff him.
My dad grew up on a farm (my uncle now owns it) and I can't imagine living there. I have lived on the same property my whole life and it is near a decently busy road, so not having the sound of the road would feel weird and Idk if I'd be able to sleep. The idea of not having neighbors is definitely appealing, though.
One of the neighbors did notice it. He said he first noticed a strong smell of burning wood, but then it changed and smelled like someone barbecuing pork. He testified about this at the trial.
*A year and a half* ? What's the freaking rush?! 🤢 For some damn reason, I thought the Omar guy was a hitman of sorts. #whoopsie 😰 😅 I was literally cheering "life!", and then... 🙌
"The Flannel King" Love that nickname you gave him. I subscribed to his channel on you recommendation. But, I like watching along with ya. And I'm starting the vid now. So, I don't know what happened yet
Some ppl are pure evil. This whole tragedy could've been avoided. All Chandler had to do is take all that time and effort he used to deceive his parents brother and girlfriend. Take advantage of all the breaks his parents afforded him and his brother. Even if he wouldn't have been as successful it's still a lot better than rotting in jail for life.
When I first watched this one, I figured out fairly quickly that he was either faking or at least exaggerating the physical limitations. The accident doesn't match the injuries, and the injuries don't match the symptoms. His lies were pretty sloppy, too. A lie isn't believable if you are overly specific (specifically saying that a Daniel Spieth worked for the college), or if you are idiotically vague (his parents' "friends"), and claiming that stuff that only happens in movies and on TV happened only makes the lie less believable.
There's a lot more anger towards his parents than this story explains--I'm guessing jealousy of his brother and expectations for himself that he could not meet. Over achievers sometimes expect too much of others. A shy child lives a different life than an extrovert but, this child found a way to do horrific things to those who cared for him from birth... I am guessing a lack of empathy found in psychopaths. Can you imagine how his girlfriend must feel? His brother will feel a load of guilt for not seeing signs of trouble earlier and now he is alone. Horrible.
Falling down the stairs and actually suffering a neck injury as bad as he presented it would have made walking not an option. Also, if he had suffered a concussion and brain bleed as bad as he described, getting up right after the fall would be dangerous, and I am skeptical that anyone would drive themselves to the hospital with the extensive injuries he claimed to have.
I think he had a serious video game addiction. He wanted to sit in his room gaming instead of studying or working. So first he lied about college, and it snowballed from there. He had to make up more and more lies to cover up the earlier lies. The goal was to keep his parents off his back and avoid any responsibilities.
I don’t understand how the parents didn’t figure out he wasn’t going to school, since they would be paying the school directly. Where was their money going to? Did they give give the son the money and he was supposed to pay the school. We know he had no money most times to pay rent.
According to his transcript, which was shown in the trial, he went to classes in 2018 and actually passed a few of them. He also enrolled in classes in fall 2019 and fall 2020, but either withdrew from or failed them all. When his dad finally called the college himself, he was told that Chandler owed more than $2,000. My guess is that Chandler got his dad to give him the tuition money and told him he'd take care of the rest. Then he just didn't pay it and kept the money. Anyway, I think his parents trusted him too much.
I watch a lot of true crime shows, and Chandler getting the date of the parade wrong isn't even in the top ten stupidest mistakes I've heard of killers making that got them caught.
