GTI Gaming my e92 has navigation but it’s pretty bad 😂 I’m just saying this phone holder is better than holding your phone in one and and the wheel with your other hand. I’d rather glance down for a split second than have one of my hands occupied and be much more distracted.

Get one soon! There’s plenty of repos out there right now because of Covid-19 unfortunately but it’s better news for car buyers. If buying used, I recommend u take at least 6 months and about 2-3 grand to change out a few parts so u can have peace of mind and super reliability!! It’s sooooo much fun to drive especially once you’ve added a transmission and engine tune OMG!

if you have 450+ horsepower, the magnet dosen't hold. Also, its in the way of passengers' left knee, and sometimes 4th to 5th shifts will knock into the floorboard. I got rid of mine.
My solution is much like this , but instead of bolt on its adhesive the same as on the metal plate for the back of the phone which allows me to place it in the best place for me... next to the ash tray and gear shift. Easy to reach and see not obstructing air vents. Swivels the same as yours. Secure and strong never a problem. Was lucky to find one with a narrow enough base plate to fit there. Installed in 30 seconds!!!
I swear EVERYONE hates wood trim. on the e90, full black interior (even the headliner like on m sport cars) with wood trim is classy, imo, that’s what i’m rocking

If you want to take it one are farther, use a magnetic wireless charger, instead of the magnetic head that comes with it. Just hide the cord and run it to a fuse or the cigarette lighter line for power. That will keep everything clean and neat, with no wires showing. It works great! 🙂
Awesome video man! One tip, when you have the metal plate on your phone you can’t charge it wirelessly. So put the metal plate in your case so you can take it off when you need to charge wirelessly!
I did the same thing with a Scosche adhesive mount. Accomplishes the same look and placement with magnetic backing and you don't have to take apart the dash. This looks pretty slick though.
Little warning, if you're gonna stick a magnet on your phone, don't do this if you want wireless charging, it will stop it from working entirely, I'd say stick it to the inside of the case so you can remove your phone for wireless charging, that's what I did :) Hope this helps! x
Its a really cool idea to integrate the phone mount in the car design but... I rather have the phone higher up where if I put my GPS or music I can change it without looking at my phone too bad

To be dead honest i wanted an e90 3 series for a long time but was afraid to commit for reliability reasons and stumbling on your channel and watching your videos is literally what mentally gave me the justification to get one. Spent 2 months consistently looking for the right one for hours n hours every day. Ended up finding an ‘11 sport package 328 sedan that was overly taken care of with 80k miles, combox, nav, LED’s and aluminum dash!!! Pulled the trigger and i couldnt be happier.. i was never an in depth car person either and now its like i got a new girlfriend hahaha.
This is an alright set up all depends on the user preference, for me I hate to keep looking down instead of having it at my line of sight so I went with a QI cup holder charger and phone mount. Also use Android Auto/ Google Maps and it works great esp if you retro a Bluetooth connector to your aux and lighter port it plays through your car deck and the assistant works too Lol
cool video. i also prefer google maps. though, I think it's a bad idea to have the navigation that low on the dashboard. maybe you will find a mod to raise it up a bit

For now I think a normal holder in the vents is the best solution especially for like navigation and cops radar detection, music, etc. Dangerous to be looking that low. I do not want to look away. Instead I want to keep my eyes on the road as much as possible.

Nice little mod man. Spencer Berkes buddy Parker put one one like it in his e46 m3 recently. Just for future reference u can just put the metal peice between your case and the phone and it will stay in place without using the adhesive backing so its not actually stuck to your phone. Thats what ive always done...just a lil tricky lining it up while puting the case back on.

Have you seen the Spigen air vent phone mount things. Those are way more simpler, easier to install/take off and they sit higher up than the location you are using. I’ve been using those for quite some time and I can put it into whichever car I want to. I feel those are a better option than this, even though the block off some air from the vent.
I used the bracket on my F30, but replaced the magnet portion with the Pitaka Qi charger. So have the integrated look with the bracket but the function of the Qi wireless charging. Looks smooth.
I know this is a late post to be asking for advice on but I thought id give it a shot. Do you think the magnet in the phone mount would be "heavy duty" enough to hold a small tablet? I've been second guessing myself about getting one of these for my MHD tablet so I can have my engine parameters somewhere that's not on my lap haha. @Justin Buice
Be leery about all magnetic phone mounts, the magnet will destroy the magnetic sensor in your iPhone. Over time, the compass will start to malfunction on your cellphone.
Great video! I ordered one from Kies Motorsports, fit like a charm and is SO much better than cramming it in one of the center trays or using a cheapo AC mount!
Love the idea id buy this in a heart beat, only problem is these types of magnetic mounts do not allow your phone to wireless charge because of the magnet on back of phone..

I've got one that fits perfectly under the push start in my x6, outside so you don't have to do all that, idk about everybody else but I don't want to pull stuff out of place lol
Get an index card. Trace the two fastener holes. Bend it in two places to make a face that faces the driver. Use an angle grinder to rough out some steel sheet. Use a Dremel or careful angle grinding and filing to replicate the pattern. Drill your holes. Make the face hole big enough to receive a cap screw. Use a cap screw and bolt to fasten onto the plate. Get a 99 cent wooden cabinet handle from Menards. Drill through. Make the hole big enough to receive the cap screw. Glue. On the other side, bore it so it receives a magnet. Primer and paint the whole thing for 6 dollars of rattle can paint. I'd guess it would be 10 dollars if you already have an angle grinder, file, and drill.
I had the same thoughts replacing one of my washer sprayer covers a few years ago. BMW wanted $50+ for a little plastic square. I got a "Chinese" one on ebay for $5, sanded, painted and clear coated it myself. On my video, people complained that I spent more on supplies than had I just bought it from BMW lol. I suppose for a lot of people, the convenience of just being able to take something out of a box and install it is worth the price 😎
That's kinda neat. I usually open the ash tray lid and lay the phone horizontally there. Mine is an E91 non smoker version. About the nav question at least in our region (Eastern Europe) I would recommend trying HERE WeGo. It works quite well, it's free and supports offline maps. Cheers :)
Yes. It will prevent your phone from wireless charging unfortunately :-/. I have a similar mount but have put the magnet on the case. At night I take my phone from the case and lay it on the wireless charger. That works for me.

The one thing is will the phone stay in place while driving and hitting bumps and driving around ? That's something to think about. The magnet needs to hold really well in order to really be secure.

I bought 1 for my old phone on the CarThrottle website. Its magnetic, and supplied with a sticky back metal plate to stick to your phone exactly the same as this. Only difference is the base/mouth sticks to your dashboard. Think it was less than £10 I used that for like a year with my old iPhone 6 and it worked great. I have a bmw 325d (e9x) so I stuck it on the black plastic part on the top of the dash. When I wanted to remove it I pulled it off gently (it was stuck on VERY well) and didn't even leave a mark👍 Only reason I stopped using it was because I've got a Samsung galaxy s10 now and didn't want to mess up the wireless charging by sticking a magnetic right over the wireless charging coils on the back of the phone
Found it, £7.63 on amazon. Just type in "Mpow Magnetic Car Phone Holder" And its the 1 with the shiny ball in the middle with a plate either side. Hopefully that helps
WIth so many options, that mount is ridiculously low. I'm using a mount that fits in my cup holder so it's high enough and away from my shift lever. And I can still use a sunshield for my window.

If you have decent case you can stick the magnet on the case not on the phone, i have same system that goes between the vents and cost me 10$. Waze tells me 3 times before i need to make turn, atleast in Europe.
It's a cool mod, but so much trouble to mount a phone holder is ridiculous lol. I have the Getihu holder for my S20 Ultra which just slides in the air vents, Its handy, quick and doesn't need bolting on, and better.. its 30 bucks cheaper than this mount. Nonetheless cool mods for people who are in things like this. I just wish there was something like this as a Cup holder for my E81, since I have the iDrive system it removes the only logical and handy cup holder and now I can't fit anything larger than a coke can under my arm rest which sucks hell lol
Google owns waze. Biggest reasons to use waze include: it shows you police, construction, most importantly traffic and is more aggressive about avoiding traffic. Also, they have updated it to show you directions earlier on top than in previous versions. If you drive mostly city I recommend it.
He, pretty late but do you know if this will work if I mounted it other side to you did using the other screws ? As I am in England and we of course drive right hand side so would prefer to look across rather than down at it which would happen if I installed same side to you ?
The only thing google maps has over waze is it tells you which exit number on highways, rather than waze saying exit soon. But waze has cop notices which is infinitely more useful than exit numbers. Waze all day err day for me.
No need for all that trouble. There are similar products that stick to the silver trim. It doesnt Look as clean as this one but you have the advantage that your phone isnt placed so low, its safer if you use it as GPS device or anything else.

It’s too low, too far from line of sight when driving. There’s really no great mounting solution for interiors with the iDrive display.
So that means in a right hand drive the mount will be next to the driver?
I guess I would go for the vent mount. Just for safety sake..

this is true. messed up my battery. if you use the magnet, get a dual layer case so there's a layer between the magnet and the back of the phone.

It hasn't fallen off yet and the roads/ train tracks where I live are pretty bad.

Only reason I stopped using it was because I've got a Samsung galaxy s10 now and didn't want to mess up the wireless charging by sticking a magnetic right over the wireless charging coils on the back of the phone

WIth so many options, that mount is ridiculously low. I'm using a mount that fits in my cup holder so it's high enough and away from my shift lever. And I can still use a sunshield for my window.

I have almost the same magnetic phone mount, but for the vent works great and I think it's nicer if you have to look at the map and the road.
If you have decent case you can stick the magnet on the case not on the phone, i have same system that goes between the vents and cost me 10$. Waze tells me 3 times before i need to make turn, atleast in Europe.

Some cheaper options on Aliexpress. A magnetic vent clip for £4 or if you have F series you can get one that sits between the vents for £15
It's a cool mod, but so much trouble to mount a phone holder is ridiculous lol. I have the Getihu holder for my S20 Ultra which just slides in the air vents, Its handy, quick and doesn't need bolting on, and better.. its 30 bucks cheaper than this mount. Nonetheless cool mods for people who are in things like this. I just wish there was something like this as a Cup holder for my E81, since I have the iDrive system it removes the only logical and handy cup holder and now I can't fit anything larger than a coke can under my arm rest which sucks hell lol

How come this will not fit the E90 without navigation? It says so on the website. Does it lack the 2 screw holes? I have the E90 without navigation😕
Google owns waze. Biggest reasons to use waze include: it shows you police, construction, most importantly traffic and is more aggressive about avoiding traffic. Also, they have updated it to show you directions earlier on top than in previous versions.
If you drive mostly city I recommend it.

He, pretty late but do you know if this will work if I mounted it other side to you did using the other screws ? As I am in England and we of course drive right hand side so would prefer to look across rather than down at it which would happen if I installed same side to you ?

The only thing google maps has over waze is it tells you which exit number on highways, rather than waze saying exit soon. But waze has cop notices which is infinitely more useful than exit numbers. Waze all day err day for me.

Enzo Pianelli i use one with my F30 and can wireless charge still.
No need for all that trouble. There are similar products that stick to the silver trim. It doesnt Look as clean as this one but you have the advantage that your phone isnt placed so low, its safer if you use it as GPS device or anything else.
