The PS4 and Switch are just becoming more of a collector's pot o' gold with these Shoot Em Ups, as well as fighting-arcade games. I don't why but seeing those genred/style games just makes me smile so much enjoying going store to store and looking for games of those genres and collecting them. I feel like they don't get the attention they deserve
they don't. they barely sell a few hundred copies at release. and on steam it's even lower. it's not like the huge franchises which are guaranteed to sell hundreds of thousands of copies.
True that Reggie. It has some of my favorite art in any Cave game, done by joker jun. Such a detailed and vibrant aesthetic. I’m also pretty sure it was one of the first shmups to do the “flying character instead of a ship” thing
Love when you talk about these kinds of games. Been trying to get more knowledgeable and just better at playing these shoot em ups. They seem more easier to access now than ever before. Would love to see more ports of the obscure 90s arcade shoot em ups.
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve watched other shoot ‘em up recommendations videos and most of the games listed are for Switch and not for PS4. I’ve recently started to appreciate the brilliance of shoot ‘em ups (I started playing Nintendo in ‘88) and I’m looking for games to get. Great video, MJR. I am a big fan of shoot-em-ups and cute-em-ups too, since I played the original Space Invaders at my local café back in the early 80's. I was a little concerned that all these games were for the PS4 exclusively, but it's great to see that you can also get them for the PC as well. Two of my all time favourite shoot-em-ups (though, I don't know if it is technically categorized as that,) are Centipede and Millipede. But I also love playing Gradius and, I don't know if you ever played it but Blood Money on the Amiga was also an amazing shoot-em-up too. OK, it is slow I will grant you, but, sometimes it nice to have something slow paced. It also has some nice extra features, and has an amazing soundtrack as well. There are just so many good shoot-em-ups/cute-em-ups around and a lot of these you have here look amazing! As always, a really great Video MJR. Thank you! I have played some amazing games thanks to the recommendations from your videos. Especially through the pick-up's you do with Reggie and the Hidden Gems videos.
Shoot 'Em Up's are always a great way to kill some time, such a fun genre of games. Only one on the list I have picked at is Sine Mora EX, but have Caladrius Blaze in my library will have to download and give it a good soon. Another banger of a video MJR, thank you for that, and hope you are having a great day.
Just a quick mention that Sine Mora/Sine Mora Ex is developed by Digital Reality, a Hungarian company located in Budapest (my home country), so it's kinda cool that a popular shmup game is developed in a non Asian/American country :) (you can change the language in the game to English or Hungarian, that's why I know, I have the game on both PC and PS4).
Fireshark and tigerheli got ps4 remakes! Love me some toplan shooters! I was really surprised they have "in the hunt" "basically metal slug submarine" which is sweet! I wish they would remake some of the turbografx 16 shooters they had a load of awesome ones!
Great video man I suggest getting all th M2shottriggers releases you have a few here but I suggest getting the Aleste collection, Tiger. Heli collection, Fire Shark Collection, and especially all the Darius collections. Deathsmiles 1 & 2 is another great cave game but I think it’s a little better on the switch. Mushehimesama is getting a physical from limited run too so I can’t wait for that! Hopefully the other Live Wire Releases get physical versions too!
Haha, funny when I ran into you at Another Castle last week I mentioned I’d been playing a bunch of these games lately. What funny timing. I figure you had probably been working on this video since before then, but serendipity is a weird thing. Nice coverage of these games though, there’s a great selection of shmups on PS4 now and it just keeps better as M2 and several other devs keep pumping out new ones as well as really good remasters/collections. There are definitely a lot more shmups released in Japan or through Limited Run Games in the west, things like the entire Cotton series, Deathsmiles 1&2, Kyukyoku Tiger, Aleste Collection, and the list goes on and on. It’d be fun to sit and chat about all the massive collection of shmups that are still only available in Japan, physically or digitally
Great List HMJ but!…there’s also rtype final 2 for ps4 that’s a fairly good game so many ships to unlock even if some are the same as others still a good shooter up non the less and it came with a cool collectible edition
Prismatic Solid is a decent vertical Shmup, with trippy AF graphics. There are 6 different weapon types that are available to you all the time, and you cycle thru them. Also selecting them rotates the shields around you which are linked in to the power ups that you collect. Only complaint is it's a little short, but it is usually cheap to buy.
Personally, I'm a little disappointed that most of the new games don't offer anything different than NES classics like "Gradius", "1943 Midway" or "Insolated Warrior". This was not the case with "Galaga - Destination Earth" which rethought the gameplay of the classic game, offering different management styles within it. I love your channel, greetings Metal Jesus Rock!

Love it! This is exactly the video I wanted. Best, brother!
We do love a shmup. I have Sine Mora on switch, its awesome.
Man I wish I could have been able to save my PS4 box. ❤️
No Resogun! One of the best shmups on PS4.
Can’t get enough 🔥you’re the best!!
Pawarumi is "Neo-Aztec" and the gameplay basically is rock-paper-scissors ! Thanks for showcasing it :)
For anyone ok with digital copies, Caladrius Blaze and Sine Mora are on sale in the PSN store until early March.
Suzuhito Yasuda's artwork has always had me drooling over Caladrius Blaze, though I've never gotten around to actually getting it
This list just made me wish for an Eindhander sequel. I was really good at the first level of that game.
lol wasnt einhander demo on one of those Playstation 1 demo discs? with parappa the rapper and some other games, i think Ehrgeiz
Nice video, I love me some shemups….. hope you can make it to Ontario in a few weeks, So Cal Video Game Expo….. take care
Great List HMJ but!…there’s also rtype final 2 for ps4 that’s a fairly good game so many ships to unlock even if some are the same as others still a good shooter up non the less and it came with a cool collectible edition
I’ve always loved these arcade shooters .
Skyforce reloaded is one of my favorite shoot ‘em ups.
Yes! Thanks for sharing this ps4 is one of my favorites to collect for :)
Praise for Sine Mora we only get an Einhander every 20 years!
Prismatic Solid is a decent vertical Shmup, with trippy AF graphics. There are 6 different weapon types that are available to you all the time, and you cycle thru them. Also selecting them rotates the shields around you which are linked in to the power ups that you collect. Only complaint is it's a little short, but it is usually cheap to buy.
so is Switch. It's a great time to be a shmup fan for both consoles. So many indie titles and great imports
Nice, but I missed Sky force and R-type final 2 and even Resogun.
Aces of the Luftwaffe and Ice Cream Surfer also interesting
UA-cam subtitles "Hey guys, middle Jesus here"
Personally, I'm a little disappointed that most of the new games don't offer anything different than NES classics like "Gradius", "1943 Midway" or "Insolated Warrior". This was not the case with "Galaga - Destination Earth" which rethought the gameplay of the classic game, offering different management styles within it.
I love your channel, greetings Metal Jesus Rock!
