I have never played a TXR game before and to be honest I am kind of struggling to see the huge appeal of these games, with the map being limited to just highways and the racing to just duels on mostly straights. I will definitely give the game a shot though! Maybe when I play it myself I will finally "get it". And if not that's fine too. Not every franchise has to be for me.
Hey dude It is understandable if you just can't find yourself enjoying TXR and genki games as a whole but I if I had to sell the game to you i would say it's similar to say NFS being inspired by early F&F movies where it contains cops vs racers and street racing elements where MCs and their iconic cars consist most of the personality, TXR and TXR Drift series were inspired by Japanese IRL street racers and wangan midnight series where over the top Japanese anime tropes cand be seen all over the place and takes alot of influence from JDM tuner culture therefore this is the kind of game which scratches THAT one specific itch... JDM highway/togue(mountain) racing and it's a Japanese game through and through. And another thing is this is an indie game and we are at the time where most AAA games come nowhere close to being as good as these kinds of games. I mean NFS had a good thing with heat but then it fumbled and it took them multiple updates to get good, Forza motorsport messed up hard, Forza horizon is still an uninspired festival racing so is crew motorfest, Gran turismo 7 alienated it's fanbase due to drastic changes to game design and the new Test drive unlimited messed up too. Not to mention all the above also guilty of stuff like micro transactions and always online BS so given the quality, the content, the marketing, the visuals, and the price I say this the best TXR game to date and a great place for a highway racing beginner such as yourself I hope this reply was useful for you❤
Try Tokyo Xtreme Race Drift 2! Realistic physics, racing between mountains! It will give you a lot of stress but a lot of pleasure when you beat everyone by not missing a single curve while drifting!
Yeah, I had Tokyo Highway Challenge on the Dreamcast, and found it to be pretty dull. I really wanted to enjoy it but I found the constant highway driving to be too boring.
@@abolfazlnozari679 Well, I love the NFS games from 2006 and before but to me TXR sounds like if you would take for example NFS Carbon but then you would remove all of the map sections that aren't highway and remove all the game modes and race types apart from the free roam duels against roaming racers. And I love NFS Carbon but I wouldn't love it with all of those things removed because there wouldn't be much of the game left, lol. But like I said I will definitely give the new TXR a try, so there is no need to try to sell me on it. I will see for myself how it is and if I can get into it.
It would be wild if TXR's revival is what saves the racing genre, I really hope this game is a huge success, so much so that AAA game devs see it and change their games for the better

13:40 I would have to imagine they designed the UI for the steam deck first and foremost, and possible even coded it with it in mind from the very start. If it just *works* like that then I doubt it’s just a miracle - many hours were poured into thinking about and optimizing for the steam deck already if I had to guess!
I was not disappointed by the fact that you put on Feel A Thrill at the beginning of the video. Time to make a playlist on Spotify of all the Wangan Midnight songs and put it on repeat when playing this game!
Yes!! This game is a much needed masterpiece in the todays troubled video game market. Even as an early access title its much more polished than some full releases! No excuse of "but this is early access", no, everything which SHOULD be polished is well done to put the game's core mechanics in a good light. The true purpose of early access. I'm looking at you, AC Evo (what a mess). If they decide to publish the full release as a physical version, I will absolutely get it to support Genki even more. Support them guys, they deserve it!
This was my FAVORITE racing game ever and I didn't know they were making another! So excited and glad this video popped up on my feed to inform me this game is out!
The presentation and racing really brings me back to the days I played Wangan Midnight DX3 ProPlusMaxExtreme Edition in arcades back in my childhood. This is the first time I've been excited for a racing game in a long time
DUDE! I didn’t know a new Tokyo Extreme Racer was coming out. I played 3 and Drift 2 so much back then! Shoot, I need to que up a Wagan Midnight playlist before Thursday then.
Starting the video and immediately blasted with some WMMT arcade machine tunes! Truly a man of culture. But tbh this game shares a lot of similarities with WMMT
All that matters is Genki knows their target audience and knew what clicked, so everything is back to basics with new subtle things to add in-game (the OST itself being remixes of the older ones, and mostly returning rivals that are well loved). I'm gonna rip ass on the Wangan once the demo's out, since it's covered up in ITC and the only routes possible was just C1, Shibuya and Shinkanjo
5:13 this is what gets me most excited for this one. I don't want 40 Ferraris a minute, I want to spend hours bonding with my little shitbox as I agonize over which fart cannon looks best 😂
Genki was WMMT (R, 1 and 2) 's developers anyway, so yeah. who knows, Genki making this MIGHT mean this could be what WMMT will be basing on for WMMT7, that's why NAMCO is taking them this long to make WMMT7 because they're still waiting for this(TXR) game to be done and be used for WMMT7 heck the camera angle when it's static even felt like WMMT's static camera.
@@DizturbedFan Original Wangan midnight 1 and R, not maximum tune which has always been made by a separate Namco team, the one time this was different was when they made the wangan midnight game for the ps3 while maximum tune existed in the arcades, but they're separate entities, just both got the license

What a cool racer. I played the old games from Dreamcast on. This is exactly what I was looking for nowdays. NO open world NO microtransactions NO BS just straight forward gameplay and a reasonable price. Now I can finally cure my old panic when I hear the word WANDERER. 😂 Graphic is also top notch but it really stresses my RTX 4080 with DLSS to its limits in 4K. Just a few minutes into the video, but everything I'm seeing looks so very much like NFS Underground and Underground 2. The driving, the background characters, it's Underground for the current generation. It's bringing back so many memories of being 20 again and dumping hours upon hours into those games on my PS2
this game looks like it takes tons of inspiration from the old Gran Turismo entries. generally feels like a very retro game, which is very cute. also random thought: a Nemesis System (LOTR Shadow of Mordor) would be dope for a racing game like this. edit: I really liked TXRD2, so I'm glad TXR is coming back, but really wish it was a Drift entry (I miss the mountain roads)
I use a mouse in menus and a wheel, pedals and shifter for racing. Been waiting 18 years to play TXR on a wheel. They almost reached 15,000 peak players on Steam. Still 11,500 right now. Racing game of the year. I don't see any other game beating it.
The floatyness I even had on X360, in my eyes it looks like a properly fine tuned (to today's standard) Import Tuner Challenge (X360). I deffo gonna get it
Remember that in the older TXR games you could unlock hidden parts for various cars by driving so many miles on the specified car. I used to just set auto cruise on while I was away and come back later for hidden rewards.
Optimization of an Arcade racer vs a sim (i think AC Evo qualifies at that?) is quite different. Performance issues in sims usually stem from them being CPU dependent a lot, since all the physics simulation needs to be calculated there - a problem which is a lot smaller with simplified arcade driving models.. To be clear: I'm just pointing out where performance differences usually come from, i'm neither hating on one or another side. I like Arcade racers, don't have the hardware for sim racers but like those as well... and my DCS F/A-18C is still faster than your virtual car :P
If they cooked this hard on the mainline TXR, imagine if they decide to also revive the Drift games somewhere down the line. I'm SO happy that Genki didn't attempt to reinvent the wheel here, they simply brought a tried and tested formula and adapted it for 2025.
I really hope this has good mod support, imagine what some modders could do with this game if the game isn't a nightmare to crack open and fiddle with. New cars, new parts, new decals, and more. Does it still have the gimmick where you have to drive your car for a shitload of miles to unlock the max tier engine upgrades?
They're taking a hands off approach. So no official modding tools, but they aren't going to deliberately try and fuck with you if you, say, add itashas to the game
@ So no leaving your PS2 on overnight on auto-pilot to get what you need to compete? Awesome. Is it just tire wear that keeps you from staying out forever or do the cars lose power due to overheating still as well?
@ Really hope a modding community pops up. I don't expect the multi-thousand mod cars like Asseto Corsa has but I would love to tear the roads up in something like a Ford GT.
@@demomanchaos idk man, for modding a racing game I’d go for Assetto, but TXR has its own charm even without mod support. Also afaik there’s a chance they “may” add Ford GT, just like from TXR3 where they added two diff models (GT40 and GT concept)
I love how the ui, the hud, the sound effects etc are actually unique and cool and not just "corporate" or forcibly manufactured to look modern like most of the recent racing games
Ok but the fact that this looks this good in early access and runs on literally everything? Like I saw some guy run this in full locked 60fps on some 10, 14 year old laptop????
I was sold anyway but hearing about the Steam Deck support made this a day 0 purchase. We locking in BEFORE the release. I like gaming on the bed, or when I'm on the train, and playing TXR3 on Deck made me realise how good the loop was for bite sized action. But hearing that a UE5 game not only runs well on the deck but has been optimized for all the deck's features has me convinced that Genki know the engine better than even Epic
Can’t believe i actually been to these express ways in real life. Just with a boring rental car but still! Especially at night you will definitely see one or two cool cars driving around. And daikoku was awesome too but the cops always closed the place 😭 Doesn’t help that they have a police station right there

Having binged the translated chapters of the manga Countach! & was rewatching Wangan Midnight + Shokuto Battle movies, this couldn't come out at a better time. Given that Nu-TXR seems to have captured the hearts of almost ALL of the racing game UA-camrs even in early access, it's safe to assume Genki was right to reboot this.

Now compared that to newer entry of Forza both Horizon and Motorsports
I have never played a TXR game before and to be honest I am kind of struggling to see the huge appeal of these games, with the map being limited to just highways and the racing to just duels on mostly straights. I will definitely give the game a shot though! Maybe when I play it myself I will finally "get it". And if not that's fine too. Not every franchise has to be for me.
You have to be into the Japanese car culture to understand the appeal.
Hey dude
It is understandable if you just can't find yourself enjoying TXR and genki games as a whole but I if I had to sell the game to you i would say it's similar to say NFS being inspired by early F&F movies where it contains cops vs racers and street racing elements where MCs and their iconic cars consist most of the personality, TXR and TXR Drift series were inspired by Japanese IRL street racers and wangan midnight series where over the top Japanese anime tropes cand be seen all over the place and takes alot of influence from JDM tuner culture therefore this is the kind of game which scratches THAT one specific itch...
Not to mention all the above also guilty of stuff like micro transactions and always online BS so given the quality, the content, the marketing, the visuals, and the price I say this the best TXR game to date and a great place for a highway racing beginner such as yourself
I hope this reply was useful for you❤
Try Tokyo Xtreme Race Drift 2!
96 year old game dev still makes games the old-fashioned way
It would be wild if TXR's revival is what saves the racing genre, I really hope this game is a huge success, so much so that AAA game devs see it and change their games for the better
How dare you use Wangan Midnight in the intro for the gameplay
It hit me straight in the feels and need to play this game, I’ve been obsessed with Wangan Midnight music for years 😂
You forgot one thing. No extra DRM for random bs reasons. and they will be hands off with modding, they will not officially support it, but they won't be adding things just to mess with modders.
Oh this is VERY good news for me! I've 3D scanning a lot of things lately, especially cars. Adding them to this game will be a good testbed for my growing skills. Plus maybe I can scan some local parking lots or something for a drift/test course. The game being well optimized and light on things like fancy shaders that hog resources will make my rookie experiments easier.
@@bottledwaterprodgood luck with that, I can see the modding scene would be huge when the game comes out. Can't wait, I've played TXR 0 when I was a kid on my PS2 and haven't really gotten the same experience since night runners came out. We are SO back
@@bottledwaterprodi wish modding in this game will be easy to do, would be BIG
lowkey wish somebody decides to do a ae92 mod, playing with my car on another txr appart from drift 2 would make me cry ngl
I thought games like this would never be made again, i had tears in my eyes after about 10 mins of playing this title today. Its like seeing a loved one who passed away come back to life. thank you Genki we need to support games like this. great review thanks for the content
Stoked for this. Hope it sets an example for other nostalgic games from the same era!
13:40 I would have to imagine they designed the UI for the steam deck first and foremost, and possible even coded it with it in mind from the very start. If it just *works* like that then I doubt it’s just a miracle - many hours were poured into thinking about and optimizing for the steam deck already if I had to guess!
I just hope this game coming out draws more attention to Night Runner's team and helps push for more modern highway runners
man, I want more proper touge stuff! TXRD2 was my jam.
I was not disappointed by the fact that you put on Feel A Thrill at the beginning of the video. Time to make a playlist on Spotify of all the Wangan Midnight songs and put it on repeat when playing this game!
Between TXR, SRP and Night Runners, Im gonna be doing a lot of highway racing in 2025
What’s SRP? I’m kinda interested
@@AHondaCivicEX asseto corsa mod
@@AHondaCivicEX Shutoko Revival Project, mod for assetto corsa
The chase cam is very tight maybe because the direct reference for genki to work on this game is from WMMT, and you know how tight chase cam WMMT has
I think I love the randomness of the AI. It felt like how racing game used to be back in PS2 days. Except with the rubberbanding.
This, JDM, Night-runners are going to be a Greatest JDM Racing games we going to have. Looking forward to this
This was my FAVORITE racing game ever and I didn't know they were making another! So excited and glad this video popped up on my feed to inform me this game is out!
The presentation and racing really brings me back to the days I played Wangan Midnight DX3 ProPlusMaxExtreme Edition in arcades back in my childhood. This is the first time I've been excited for a racing game in a long time
I played the original on PS2. I now have 15 hours in on this game and still love it.
It feels like its been SOO long since the racing game community got a nice product like this.
Finally a racing game that isn't widely hated on release!
I could not believe I woke up this morning and a new TXR is waiting for me to play. So freaking hyped.
Well you convinced me to buy this game. Particularly the section on how great it is on Steam Deck. I'm off to Tokyo now! Cheers!
Because Genki was the developer for early WMMT. (R, 1 and 2)
All that matters is Genki knows their target audience and knew what clicked, so everything is back to basics with new subtle things to add in-game (the OST itself being remixes of the older ones, and mostly returning rivals that are well loved). I'm gonna rip ass on the Wangan once the demo's out, since it's covered up in ITC and the only routes possible was just C1, Shibuya and Shinkanjo
keeping it classic was the best desicion
This game feels like good old PS2 era arcade racing game. Also love that game knows what it is - a game, not a job with battle bass crap or whatever.
Tokyo Xtreme Racer + WMMT BGM ahhhhhh man great 🔥🔥
I heard the map is a 1:1 scale of Tokyo highways. You basically drive around the HWY just with this game!
I sooooo want to buy it once its released on consoles!!! ❤️
5:13 this is what gets me most excited for this one. I don't want 40 Ferraris a minute, I want to spend hours bonding with my little shitbox as I agonize over which fart cannon looks best 😂
0:50 OMG FEEL A THRILL WMMT MENTIONED RAHHHH
was looking for a WMMT comment!
Genki was WMMT (R, 1 and 2) 's developers anyway, so yeah.
who knows, Genki making this MIGHT mean this could be what WMMT will be basing on for WMMT7, that's why NAMCO is taking them this long to make WMMT7 because they're still waiting for this(TXR) game to be done and be used for WMMT7
heck the camera angle when it's static even felt like WMMT's static camera.
I cried. Would of been more if it was Fallen Angel during a Battle Against a certain former 13 devil.
@@DizturbedFan Original Wangan midnight 1 and R, not maximum tune which has always been made by a separate Namco team, the one time this was different was when they made the wangan midnight game for the ps3 while maximum tune existed in the arcades, but they're separate entities, just both got the license
@@DizturbedFan if i remember they're not touching the arcade series, they did made the console version though, like wangan midnight psp and the one in ps3 if i remember
This is great. We have way too many simracing games and not enough plug and play arcade racing games
What a cool racer. I played the old games from Dreamcast on. This is exactly what I was looking for nowdays. NO open world NO microtransactions NO BS just straight forward gameplay and a reasonable price. Now I can finally cure my old panic when I hear the word WANDERER. 😂
Graphic is also top notch but it really stresses my RTX 4080 with DLSS to its limits in 4K. There is still some optimization necessary.
I'm so happy that it's a good game. After TDU, I wasn't ready to have my heart broken again
Genki was busy in the Kitchen. And Dinner, is Now Served.
Loud and clear, Eden.
I've been big excited for this game and I'm getting the hell in there when it's out.
Why do I feel nostalgic for a game, from an IP I never knew it existed up until a week ago?
The ingenuity and the timing of Genki to release the game while there's almost no good racing games in the market
this is what night runners was trying to mimic and thats still in alpha basicly
But that dev is goated aswell that game is rly good
@@lukassamuila9999both games can live together perfectly
we are eating good this 2025 and hopefully it keeps on this trend, i really wish for a kaido racer revival witch it has chances of happening if this game does well, and night runners seems its gonna add touge racing aswell
boy i am excited for what's comming
Don’t worry G, I’m almost done building my PC so imma get it! I hope it does so well that Genki decides to do a Kaido Battle 4!
10:22 YOOO MY BOY ROLLING GUY 1
Genki cooked a gourmet meal for us 😍
I use a mouse in menus and a wheel, pedals and shifter for racing.
I wish we can import Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 soundtrack from the Dreamcast version into this version.
Didn't seem like it, you simply unlock all upgrades in the perk tree, which opens up more and more as you beat all of the crew bosses
Played this entire series back in the 2000’s at like age 9… Welcome back Friend
I had the feeling that 2025 would be a good and interesting year, and it seems to be coming true. I hope there is an RF version of the ND as well.
man TXR3 is my childhood i’m so happy right now
I hope you're not planning to play it on console lol. It's PC Only
@ i got a pc but they plan on releasing it on console once it’s fully released i thought
oh boy, the year 2025 is off to a great start with Genki's newly fresh and cooked Tokyo Xtreme Racer
ALL HAIL GENKI FOR GIVING US THIS MASTERPIECE.
Can’t believe i actually been to these express ways in real life. Just with a boring rental car but still!
Especially at night you will definitely see one or two cool cars driving around.
And daikoku was awesome too but the cops always closed the place 😭 Doesn’t help that they have a police station right there
1:07 what a vibeee 🔥🔥🔥
..for the future updates, it needs more head on head action Soul!
it feels like the devs read our comments in every other racing games on yt like for example when there was a highway tokyo night scene of Assetto Corsa Mod or GranTurismo fckn'7 we immediately commented its like Wangan Midnight / TXR !!!
..hope we will see another Auto Modellista 2 from Capcom 🔥
One of the best years for gaming is upon us
Great video as always Dustin, Keep spirit work and also stay awesome! Love you bro
Perfect song choice at the start, nice
In the best way possible, this looks like a game for the Dreamcast 2.
Been playing it for 7 hours as of now. Very fun and solid game. Big Ps2 car game vibes and I love it.
I just picked this up the other day and got a bit more than 2 hours in before i had to be yanked away from it, its just too damn good, most definitely one of my top games that have come out this year already 😁😁😁
i am so happy this even exists and then it even turns out to be objectively great? it is a good time to be a racing game fan.
That bodykit on the thumbnail is badass.
I have a world rally blue brz and am going to buy an ings N spec bodykit. But that one looks fire enough for me to search for something closer to it
It's like that wangan midnight arcade game that we needed for so long, can't wait for actual release!!
Thank you eden!!!! you were the only one to speak about how this game works on the steamdeck, i was already going to buy this gem, but now it Will be a Day one purchase!!!!
It’s crazy I just bought TXR 0 for $20 and now I’m getting all these videos about the newest entry
i first saw this as a game to play while i wait for the release of night runner but this video completely changed my perspective on this game, i am 100% going to play this game even after the release of night runner
Kudos to all the modders for keeping our appetites in check and Genki for letting us know who’s king
Good Choice for the intro song, I play Feel A Thrill From WMMT4 when I play Tokyo xtreme racer zero back in the day
Little fact really, the system of battling random no names first shows up on Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix, a never localized Tokyo Xtreme Racer game that focuses more on legal racing [e.g. circuits, albeit still uses C1 and Osaka]. I'm just surprised they'll add it onto the MAINLINE series. I really love this.
If you haven't heard it yet, RBC1GP recently got a fan-translation.
@BlackRockStella What the fuck?.? Where can i get it?? Looks like i've been living under a rock
