Chinese military staged drills around Taiwan, days after a new president took charge. While Taiwan is a self-ruled democratic island, China claims it as part of its territory. China has called the drills "punishment" for hawkish statements made by the new president and his Western allies. The PLA deployed 15 warships and 42 fighter jets to practise a full-scale assault on the island. Taiwan's president has slammed the drills and promised to "stand on the frontlines" with his soldiers. The latest drills are unprecedented for China as their previous ones only focused on economic blockade of the island. How will Taiwan's allies respond to this escalation? Palki Sharma tells you.

The question is if China's heavily trade-based economy could survive being cut off from all of its major trading partners. I swear i would have accepted the chinese argument that it is a civil war if only their country was not a bully to other countries like in vietnam or the Philippines.
