St. Basil the Great's On the Holy Spirit was a great resource for me to begin to understand the Holy Trinity as I was coming from an Ex-Muslim background.
You are doing God's work with your great videos. I am named after saint Basil and studying his life makes me realise how low I am in terms of spiritual struggle. I wish i could have at least his courage.
I don't know how this channel flew under my radar the past two years but I'm grateful I now have the entire backlog to catch up on. Thank you for your content, its great man.
Fascinating, I didn't know about his life! Would also love it if you made videos on early Christian theologians such as Tertullian and Origen, apart from the Church Fathers.
@@ChristianEphraimson Origen's platonizing was/is a serious cause of issues to the Church. In fact the original concept of a philokalia was created by St. Basil and St. Gregory of Nyssa separating the wheat from the chaff of his writings.
I am not trying to comment too much on youtube but needed to say thank you so much! I feel this video and your video on St. Athanasius were just what I needed to hear. What saints like St. Paul, St. Athanasius, St. Basil, and St. Pope Kyrillos VI did for Christianity is so inspiring. Through the intercessions of the Holy Theotokos St. Mary, may the Holy Spirit continue transfiguring His Orthodox Christians.
It's so amazing how Basil was blessed (so he could bless others) with the land and money needed after he was threatened to be killed and tortured. He stood up to that threat and then he built the first hospital.
Interestingly enough, the church I attend kind of keeps the bread tradition going by giving loaves of bread donated by a local grocery store after liturgy. I wondered why this was done, and apparently, it's a new thing I've learned thanks to this channel, fascinating!
Wow enlightening I never knew that much about st basil Now I know why my mom bakes in new years a cake with a coin in it lol always wondered about that tradition 😅
6:35 HEY! I recognise that vasilopita as the one my wife and I made! It tasted magnificent! I am just sad that I didn’t win the coin 😂🤦♂️. Glad to be a part of your video Stephan, however small of a contribution we can give! May St Basil pray for us 🙏
My priest recently made all us younger folk read st basils writings about gleaning the seeds of truth from pagan writings to prepare for scripture. I didnt know he made the first hospital. Thank god for the many gifts of st basil
Godspeed brother, I haven’t watched this but I’ve always kinda had a weird feeling about Basil the Great because I never knew about him that much. But I’m sure this video will change everything.
@@Patristixwow didn’t think you would actually respond 😂 but thank you for your response finished the episode and it was amazing. I finally know more, and now know why I was feeling his attitude in his writings on scripture.
I'm noticing in your videos that there have been saints that have created incredibly important inventions, such as the calendar we use today. Could you make a video that lists them? They don't have to necessarily be reserved to saints.
When Saint Efraim of Syria Prayed to God to show him who the Great One is. Suddenly he saw in the midst of the night two titanic pylons of flame that had their foundations upon the earth yet their tops vanished high above the heavens. When Saint Efraim asked what are the two Pylons of Flame that reach the heavens , God answere him that these are the hands of Basilious when he prays.
Telling what Basil did, encouraging others to broaden their minds, its good. Ill pull on a biblical verse where it says, "We are not unaware of the devices of the Devil". Talk to many ask about this, oh they know, they know. Some may. But, being aware rationalization is used to attack some, others fear, etc. We need to note, Jesus was talking to apostles if I recall. Where they knew. Today its more advanced.

What kinda Muslim were you before, Sunni or Syiah? And how do you view Tauhid on Trinity..
Godbless you brother I was a messianic Jew now converted to Orthodoxy a few years ago it heals all things
O Holy and Venerable Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea, pray for me a sinner!!
🙏🏻
Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a sinner 💖🙏
🙏🏻
Do you mind doing a series on the ecumenical councils in full? I’m more interested in the second and third councils of Constantinople.
I'm just here for ANYONE titled "the Great". 🙌
Hi creative orthodox. I love your skits from the sayings of the desert fathers.
Love your work, @creativeorthodox
So, The Great Gatsby or The Great Mouse Detective? What's next? 😅

Glad you've found us! Hope you enjoy the backlog. If you go in order you'll find the episodes sort of build on each other.
@@Patristix I will for sure, please keep ‘em coming!

Unfortunately Origen was anathematized so it's very unlikely there'll be a video about him.

My patron saint. January 1st was a big feast and celebrated every year in our family. How I miss those days...
Thank you!

I feel he might have been a little intimidating in person! But there's also a touch of humour in his writings and personality
Great Video! You should cover origins of many famous hymns. Like Agios o Teos (Trisiagon) or Cherubic Hymn etc.
Incroyable ✝️🇨🇵

"Fascinating argumentation, Methodius. In retort, I've went ahead and depicted you as a soyjak."
So is it Basil or Vasil?
Original pronunciation is Vasilios
