Reply: Thank you but I hope you are joking :) we've got tons of space for improvement in this department.
@@Fish-Story yes, this was a jake 😉
I loved how the giant Gouramis came to check out Atan as a gang😂🤣
They were like “hol up who is this?”
Love your videos. I Always look forward to them
We appreciate your kind words and glad we enjoy the hobby together.
Dovii are amazing fish, one of my favs🤙🏽
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Great interaction their, fascinating to watch the dovii hold is own against much larger species.
Very impressive!! 👏
👍 love your setup, amazing
Both fish look awesome in there 👍🏼
It was interesting to see the Midas going from very pale to colourful with each new clip as his confidence was coming back little by little in his new environment
Thank you. Overall, I'd say Atan's colors have been washing out over years. When we got him at 6 inches, the red was vibrant. Now it is badly washed out. IDK why. Something similar with Lando too, just not to the same extent yet. I wonder if this is for the lack of UV in our tank lights and also tank lights are rarely on overall.
Huge fishes. Love the content again!
C’mon tough guy. Lol
Love this dovii update
Great variation of species !! How come no Huge pieces of driftwood tho ??
Thank you. If you are interested, I can copy and paste my usual reply to this commonly asked question.
😮Great dude!
Leave em alone 🤣😂🤣 sounds just like me when I transplant a fish into another established tank. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Yeah :) they are so vulnerable in the first moments, it's heart wrenching to see anything bad happen to them.
Great additions they will be fine in there once they settle in. ✌🐟🐟💜
Same here .. my dovii is really shy .. but not with tankmates they will be killed .
Another thing what i learned in the group is not all dovii have same personality .. some are badass
Thank you for this. Glad to learn. I am a cichlid rookie.
ATan is lookin awesome in there
He does!
Thats the dovii,s corner now 🤣
Perhaps. But I have not seen him chase the tank mates away from that corner yet. I might have missed it. But there are no other cichlids in the tank.
I love how when you moved Atan and he was sitting in the corner, the giant gouramis all came over and seemed to be like, "Hi, welcome to the neighborhood"
Yes, that was peculiar to observe.
@@Fish-Story Those catfishes are just a waste taking up tank space. You should cook them up and feed some people
@@moseskongi4746 no you not suppose to eat bottom feeding fish anyway😂😂
@@antbrew7466 Tell that to hordes of people all over the country that do eat them. Catfish sales are in millions of $.
Wow! Bro I haven’t seen any of you’re videos for ages…since you were doing the poon and filter on the roof! It’s all oooking great
Thank you. Glad you revisited.
@@Fish-Story you might remember me…we talked about algae scrubbers👍
Algae scrubbing aquarium fish helpers or biofiltration?
@@Fish-Story na we talked about using scrubbers to remove nitrates from tanks! It’s was way back when you were still building the koi pond
I remember now :) Thank you! I learned from you.
Yay! New fish video! Why did they have to get rehomed? I hope they continue to do well and live peacefully. Love seeing all the fish. Say hi to Lucci!
Thank you. Lusy lost about half of what needs to be lost. The dovii and midas have been donated / rescued long time ago, about a year, and lived in growout tanks. We are trying to graduate them to the larger tanks. They had outgrown their prior owner's abilities to house them properly.
Great news about Lusy. I bet she can move about more easily now. I hope the two other fish do well. Thanks for giving me an update.
I hope Big Bad & Atan are doing well.
They are. But adjustments are needed. See todays video :)
Big bads a beauty
Indonesia fish like arwana,belida,tapah,baung jaksa❤🎉
arowana, knife fish, wallago, wyckii :)
Good update, i guess that opens up the tank they came from fir new arrivals. Unrelated question, do you think dropeye in arowanas occurs in the wild or mostly just captive fish?
From the little I've read, wild ones never or almost never get it. I need to learn a lot more on the subject.
They need something to look up towards. branches and some movement above the tank did wonders for my buddy's trio of aros
Don't they try to jump at whatever they see above the water, because it may look like prey to them?
@@Fish-Story yes and no, it depends on the setup, you want them looking up at something. It has been the only explanation I can find for drop eye and I researched and talked to many people. Just helping my buddy but for myself for the future it helped my decision on aquarium planning.
Thank you for this. It seems to me there is no wide spread consensus on the exact or primary cause. Our various peers report various observations that both support and contradict each hypothesis - a need to look up (like you say), bright tank lights, diet, sinking food and busy movement and tank mates below, trauma, tank size. For instance, take tank size: our experience is that none of our 5 silver arowana raised from 3" and properly housed in large tanks had a drop eye until after 4+ years old when they started fighting, jumping, badly bumping heads during breeding seasons, as opposed to the many of our rescue arowana that came from smaller tanks and had a drop eye already at 1-2 years old. I am not saying the tank size is it. Just that I can't say I have decided anything definitive for myself. But what you say is very logical, of course.
You're the polar opposite of a whole bunch of aquarium hobbyists/UA-camrs from Florida. Most of those guys just parade a fish in front of the camera, without any regard for what the fish is going through. If one of those guys shows a new fish in a video that they upload today, it's a given that that fish is either dead or dying 2 weeks from today. On the other hand, you treat fish like you really care for them. For example, while rescuing fish, you don't film their move from a tank to a bin because you want to use both hands while moving the fish.
Your knowledge of fish is astounding. You know all their names, their feeding habits, and so on. Most important of all, the growth rate of your fish is amazing!
It's a shame when you lose a fish. But the information you cover in a video that shows a fish that has died is also very useful. I don't know of many people who have raised peacock bass from 1.5 inches to 24+ inches.
There are a lot of monster fish keepers out there. But less than a handful have your kind of dedication. It's a shame that you don't have at least 3 million subscribers.
You're an inspiration to a lot of people. Keep up the good work!
PS: Would be great to see some updates on The Big Bad.
Thank you! This is one of the kindest and best compliments we've ever received and it means a lot. We'd not say we are something special or that we care for fish more than others - it's none of our business and we are just tinkering a bit in our shop and trying to share as time and life permits... Many people had already asked to see more of The Big Bad before you. Seems like he is quite popular :) We'll aim to film an update soon.
Look at the teeth on that gourami! Wow
Exodon = teeth outside
From the little experience I have had , yes the Dovii depending on what species of Dovii usually like to be solo or with just a mate. Usually they will kill tank mates however when that's impossible like In this situation I don't think we have much documented about Dovii behavior when surrounded by bigger fish. Thank you for showing this Brother.. Only other one I know of is at the OFR. (Ohio Fish Rescue) And far as I know it's the same type of behavior.
Also, glad to see the devil cat is doing well, thats another situation I didn't think I'd ever see . 👍👍
Glad to see the
Thank you. I didn't know OFR has a dovii in a community. I will reach out to ask for their experience.
@@Fish-Story OFR has the dovi in whith the pacu and a giant temensis bass and some massive pieces of drift wood, so he has plenty of room to get along 👍👊😊
@@Fish-Story yea their Dovii is in with Pacu RTC TSN and a big Peacock in their 3000G .. you guys need to get together.
@@francescol3307 Thank you. The RTC and TSN must be the growouts otherwise I think the Dovii would be in peril. OFR and us are good friends and peers, although we talk and see each other only occasionally.
Wondering , will we soon see an update on the acrylic build?
Sorry, Lamont. Doesn't look like any time soon. We have $0 saved / donated toward the front glass. I need to start a crowdfunding, I am told. I haven't yet.
@@Fish-Story love your channel, if you do, I would contribute
@@Fish-Story I think crowd funding is a good idea. I’m sure lots of people would be happy to help you help these fish.
You do great things and we all enjoy what you do!
Thank you both, we much appreciate even such thoughts of yours! I think I will set up a campaign soon.
Jesus u put him in general population
IDK how it'd proceed for its entire life but as long as we had the dovii in that 4500 gal, he presented no problems with tank mates.
Do you feed them crawfish ??
No. We feed all fish the same mix of NLS pellets and thawed bait fish fortified with VitaChem.
A big tank, and they may initially co-exist. But somewhere down the line, even a year from now, a small thing will possibly set them off. A possible entrant on "shark week"
:) Thank you. I appreciate the heads up. I need the knowledge because I am a rookie when it comes to cichlids.
Can you get any Haps that hey large like the Malawi pike cichlid?
Sorry, I am ignorant with smaller African cichlids. Not my field.
@@Fish-Story What about Boulengerochromis microlepis? They are the biggest cichlids in the world.
@@benjaminmorley1007 The emperor cichlid has been elusive for us. Still looking to keep it.
Hey bro, I was able to log on and check out the monster fish keeping website, thank you for the info. It's a little tricky to navigate for me but I think that's just because I got use to using apps like UA-cam and Ebay etc . I'll get the hang of it.
Anyway for some reason I started not getting notifications from the channel, just looked and missed the last 6-7 uploads. Cool to have some videos to go back and watch but I wonder why the notifications stopped? Anyway I will unsubscribe and resubscribe and see If that works.
Love the species specific videos bro, hopefully the devil cat will be soon. 😁
Thank you. The subs and unsubs I never see (I think I turned it off), nor am I notified about the notifications of the subscribers. This is YT behind the scenes for me.
Make sure the "Bell" icon is clicked
For these larger fish use a bath towel. Your net was too small. Removing those pieces of rock will make the fish easier to catch and keep them from getting injured in the process. I would be surprised if the shovelnose did not eventually eat those fish. IMHO of course.
Your hunch is correct. I forget but it was either the TSN pair or the piraiba pair that managed to kill that dovii.
Dovii looks a bit stressed in there
Perhaps due to the transfer being recent.
I believe that Dovii has received some hits from catching him and taking that into consideration then you know why he is shy. Basically Dovii isn't bulletproof like every fish
Thank you. This time around Big Bad wasn't too shy, not after the first 15 minutes.
How do you find these big tanks??
The two 4500 gal we bought from Dolphin Fiberglass, Homestead, FL. The 1800 gal and 25000 gal we made here DIY.
@@Fish-Story ua-cam.com/video/OpLTd2Av4lU/v-deo.html. I'm not a UA-camr. Just like showing off my fish. Any suggestions?? I could use some constructive criticism
R u gonna feed the tank with yer new fish( big bad dovi).?
I will try filming it. The problem is that the fish are not used to the bright filming lights and lose a lot of their appetite. Change stresses fish.
@@Fish-Story cool thanks fer the insight
I have filmed it yesterday FWIW. Will post soon.
@@Fish-Story thankyou fer replying. Luv your channel
Thank you for the nice words. The video is published. You won't see the dovii feeding well - he is too far away from the front window (sorry, that is probably what you wanted to see), but the midas you'll see well.
My Dovii is shy as well
Thank you. With you? As I was saying in the vid, ours is shy with me but not with fish tank mates.
soon Dovii will rule this tank
Hopefully we will see together. Thank you for the warning.
I was saying the same exact thing ...they are super aggressive!
Dovii isn't going to rule a tank with bigger predator fish. It's actually dead now.
Woke up today to my 14 inch arrowanna in my 80 gal dead 10 feet away from my tank on top of my cats perch. I'm very sad and mad
Sorry to hear that. Do you think it jumped out or has your cat fished it out and dragged it to its perch?
@@Fish-Story I have a Ryukin goldfish, a beautiful shubunkin, and 4 angelfish in there with it. Theres no way any of those could have spooked it. I'm guessing my cat spooked it enough by being on top of the tank ( If u dont know but arrowanna's get very skidish very fast, even a hand going fully over the tank kinda scared him so its no doubt if my cat was to stick its hand in there it would get spooked. I have no way for it to jump out unless it was taken out through the small hole the size of your drainhole in your shower. My arrowanna was around 10/12 inches. it maybe could have angled itself very well to fit through a small hole ( due to my cat spooking it ) or my cat physically got it with its paws and took it out through the hole. I'll never know but I do know things happen and you got to move on. sometimes it sucks to but it is what it is
Arowana are accomplished jumpers and they use it to their advantage instinctively. They have no problem with precision jumping through a hole either but that takes proper positioning and preparation. If it was spooked, there is no preparation. Hence my guess is it was bailing the tank, which they most often try to do in our hobby when they feel that the tank is getting too tight for them. Just my thought.
How’s the ripsaw doing
Hi Ayden! Your ripsaw has been doing quite well since you brought it here but it is not putting on weight. IDK why. Perhaps it is its physique of a slender male. I hope it doesn't harbor internal or intestinal parasites because sometimes not putting on weight happens because of that.
Be careful of thos alligator gars.. they can eat fish which fits in the mouth. Cichlids are aggressive, but gars grow very fast.
Thank you. That's true except we don't have any alligator gars, because they are illegal to own here where we live. We have tropical gar, florida gar, and longnose gar.
Would a oscar survive in there?
We've had a couple of oscars in this tank, at 15 inches. They had been harassed a bit too much, so went into 1800 gal.
I think this will work if dovii doesn't get to territorial
Thank you. Are you by chance speaking from experience of keeping dovii in large tanks with very diverse tank mates?
@@Fish-Story 500-1000 gallons but not nearly as diverse. I found giving them large caves/ pots to hold as territory did seem to help. Thinking it was more of limiting their sight line not really on option for you. OFR seemed to make it work after adjustments so we'll have to see.
This is helpful. Thank you.
Pretty soon the Dovii will dominate Brutus
You're right. This is exactly what happened.
@@Fish-Story has big bad grown?
Seemingly not in length, mostly in girth.
@@Fish-Story please more videos of big bad. Big bad is my favorite. Smartest, toughest fish ever. Even in 4500 they are super aggressive. Your videos are my favorite!!!

it defo not normal for dovi to be shy myn is the most inquisitive cichlid ive ever kept also they are true predators they will sit a study fishes movement and when that fish least expect it they attack usually at the swim bladder
Thank you for the warning. It is disturbing... I hope to find out without bad damage and losses.
Dovii can get 3 feet long
Thank you. Never seen one. Have you? Might you point to a link that shows one?
bump
Aren't those dropped eyes arowanas just disgusting?
It's a shame but disgusting may be too strong. I wish we knew better how to combat DE.
I would of caught that dovii in 30 seconds! Your too slow.
As in slow-witted? :) Yes! Absolutely! Sometimes I too move a bit gingerly or even clumsy, that's true.
Typical hobbyist, you are worrying if your camera is wet instead if your fish hasn't killed itself while jumping 😥
Thank you. Less than typical. I am a beginner.
