I was excited to see this video when I saw the title! Dovii are my favourite fish, and here, in Australia, they aren't particularly common. I have three males and one female, the biggest male being close to 17", and he's called Wolfie, in honour of Andy Woods' big boy! All of mine live in separate tanks, but I hope to introduce Wolfie and the female, Lady, to each other soon. Awesome video, Scott, love your work!

Yeah, i've seen mel's large old male dovii. It was by far the largest male kept in a home aquaria that i've seen..although sadly he's no more but he holds his grandson and he's getting quite large as well. The other one was a male in a public zoo somewhere in the states i can't remember right now. Coincidentally, he also had 3 large male jags with a large ol female that passed away & they too were the largest of their kind that i've seen with Mel. I've been following him for quite long now 😅
These fish have indiscriminate growth, meaning they’ll grow their entire lives. With space, good water, food and husbandry these fish can get up to even 30”. Mel is definitely a pioneer in the hobby!
Hey buddy 25+ year fish keeper here and 15+ year member on MFK. I live in Connecticut and have an empty 8x30x24 300 gallon aquarium. If at any point you want to rehome this beauty I'd drive to come get him. This is the only cichlid I'd want as a solo fish and would give him a forever home. Of course pics whenever you'd want
I've googled the crap out of record holding dovii/wolf cichlid so many times lol I have a ruler taped to the trim by my green terror's favorite hangout
Your fish is beast and i think its the same as my first dovii.nicaraguan type wich is darker more narrow and has more purple.and i think guapote mels fish is costa rican type wich are higher dody lighter color and i think get the nuchal hump.......
Hi, Robert here I just got myself a pair of dovi cichlids in a 210 the male is about 6 inches and the female is and 4 inches and he is not letting her move or eat what should I do?
i cnt even imagine what a 24-28" dovii is like in person ...ive seen bass that long but they arent as tall ....i had a pair of pearsei around 16-18" that were enormous because they were so tall like doviiand they mde my 350 look like severums in a 55 but they were peaceful and floated around imagine another ft on that in a super aggressive fish flying around the tank and you can easily see a 600 gallon not being too large ...insane
Hi bro i have a pair of dovii in a 400 gallon tank i wanna knw if i can put in a red tail cat fish with them my last red tail cat fish was over 24 inches before he died 😢 i had a pair of jaguar cichlid aswell well there was so bad ass lol😅
Dovii grow over 32 inches there is a guy on Twitter holding two massive doviis this is what he wrote: My 2 biggest Guapotes- Doviis I wish I could have verified them. One was 14 lbs and the biggest one was 18 lbs. Well over 32 inches. The verified world record is 13 lbs lmao. Mine were caught in lake apanas,same lake the world record was caught #dovii #monsterfishkeepers #guapote

Mel had a Dovi that was 28 inches long and 17 inches tall. Hes head was massive

The biggest Dovii I ever seen was in San Francisco at the Steinhart aquarium it was well over 30 inches.

Andy woods has dovi that are HUGE! It's amazing how big they get. I hope my red morphs get as big
there's a guy here on UA-cam called Guapote Mel that has some older videos of Dovii that's over 25 inches long, Andy's Dovii is a big boy too
