I threw caution to the wind and said F it and hit update for my
4012 and hopped in the shower, updated without bricking and went for a rip on delirium, pushed it harder than i usually do and couldn’t make it sing(I’m a lazy road cruiser) so I switched to sequoia to see if it actually makes noise and sure enough it will make a fun bzzz-bzzz when pushed past the limits. For my style of riding I can maybe have some extra confidence that I’m not riding beyond the board, I’m 240lbs and pushback is hard to decipher.
Someone needs to test large battery mods and also whether Rewheel still works.
Was walking somebody through attempting to flash firmware on a 4165 yesterday and ReWheel wouldn't connect. Need to confirm myself as well, but it's not a positive sign. That said, ReWheel would really only come in handy for reverting to older firmware on some XRs. There are no firmware customizations available.
@@fixmypev it's strange that XR doesn't have any customizations. There are very few firmware differences between the Pint and the XR. I think the only reason is that the Rewheel developers don't have an XR to play with. All of the same customizations should port to the XR without much effort.

@@maddmikemu Absolutely, the official shutdown of the ReWheel project created a major roadblock to progress. It's a combination of both the inability to provide ongoing support from the original developers and the potential legal risks that deter any further exploration. Without a dedicated team and the necessary resources, the customization possibilities for the XR (and even the Pint X) remain limited. It's a challenging situation given the potential benefits that could have been unlocked with continued development.

Thanks for your input, Im also rocking my new wheel i got from you guys and I love my Float black and green/yellow jacket, i wear it at my morning job everyday that i ride to. Im the guy who has the Back to the Future style XR board if i had popped by with it. Ill be back shopping again for sure!

Here's something interesting...Pre-4210 boards only request the firmware update (encryptedfw4165.bin) while 4210+ boards request the firmware update as well as a new bootloader (encryptedfwV6.bin). So far, this doesn't seem to cause any known differences in the way 4165 operates for different version XRs, but it's worth noting. Seems to be a way for the older and newer XRs to all run the same firmware...which makes me wonder if we could potentially make use of that bootloader to allow us to install older firmware on 4210+ boards... (this would only be possible if the bootloader doesn't block access to ReWheel). Food for thought. 💡
The IMU changed with 4210, so that is one thing that prevents it from running 4134. I remember someone got 4134 loaded onto their 4210 and it thought it was upside down. But maybe all they needed to do was run the nRF tilt to recalibrate that...
Really hope an XR to to be,rewheeled at least get a taste before you vesc haha

@@matix10104 I wouldn't recommend trying to find out. There's no genuine benefit gained in your position. Unless you want Haptic Buzz that badly.
I updated my xr firmware.xr with a jwchip and jwxr battery. I was nervous but figured I would convert it to a vesc as well if things didn’t work out. Updated no problem .
Have you tried to ride the full range? Previous XR 4162 firmware did not allow more than 7ah of usage and your JWXR battery is 10.5ah.

Chi battery is confirming that the update acts like the previous 4162 XR firmware and limits the battery capacity to stock range.
My jw battery in a 4212 xr running Gemini 4165 And a FFM chip and I have seen no change in my average battery range

I wanna see a video where you update a CBXR, and then ride it. Let's say a 4211 or 4212. IF you can please do.

Just went to ride after months of not being able to. I had no clue about this software update….i did the update so I could see why my board was not turning on.
My 4209 with a CBXR chi battery is no longer working….it won’t turn on unless it’s plugged in and I get an error 16 code. Then nothing, the board is a brick now…😢

Jeff the previous XR 4162 firmware doesn't allow larger battery mods such as CBXR or VnR to use more than 7ah, so just a little more than stock battery range.
I seriously doubt FM would take away their latest error 23 limiting battery to 7ah, so if this 4165 XR firmware acts like the 4162 firmware it is not safe to update if you are using a battery mod or a chip. Even the older 4209 hardware gets updated to the same 4165 firmware as the latest XR hardware, so the old hardware version isn't going to help with battery mods.

Happy monday guys ! I just ordered WTF rails and Im still using my stock BMS and battery. when i install the rails will I need to do anything like recalibrating the board or can i just install and go ride ?

Downloaded the new update, foot pad light was staying yellow (but that may be due to a new pair of shoes). When I went up a steep hill I got error 23 incompatible Hardware which is odd as this pint has never been craked. Any thoughts???
Shoot! I got the message on my iPhone app about this update. It was trying to update the firmware while I was on the board without even asking! 🤯🤯🤯 fortunately, it failed in the middle of it, so I closed the OW app, cancelled automatic updates of the app, but I guess it’s too late and every time I’m gonna open the app, it’s gonna try to update the firmware of my board! 🤬
How can I continue to use the onewheel app but NOT get this firmware update on my XR???

I don't experience any buzz during my regular usage (commute) except for very brief moments (going up a ramp too quickly), so I do appreciate it as a safety feature.
That's on a Pint X though (and on pavement).
On a regular Pint it would go off all the time (my personal preferred speed is around Pint's top speed), so would probably even annoy the f outta a slowpoke like me.
(Both my regular Pints have dead BMS, so that's preventing me from finding out 😂)
Point is, there *are* users and use cases where it's *not* bad.
Generally speaking it is bad of course, because it can't be disabled or adjusted, so it will be a constant PITA to those riding top speed, offroad, etc.
Also: since there is a very obvious buzz now, *why can't we disable pushback* (which can become a *hazard* when going downhill or maneuvering)???

Dang, how many Onewheels do you have connected to your OneWheel app? I assume the wheels are shared, so how does that effect the odometer reading in the app? Just curious. Thank you.

Got an older 4209 with a cbxr and no chip. The update popped up and I freaked out. Deleted the app real quick lmao.

@@theob1712you can still do it on the OWCE app or manually turning your board on its side. Plenty of videos on how to do that.
@@theob1712if youre on iPhone you can disable internet before opening it, or even make a Shortcut to automate launching it

The pint with the quart upgrades didnt brick, but they did lose the additional range. I imagine the CBXR will be the same
May have to cycle off and on on a ride.. ive had to do this in s few instances lately with a cbxr and also carrying a cbxr and byob on a regular board.. field charging i had to double cycle the other day for it to read the battery properly immediately after a field charge from the byob and external cbxr

I order some wtfs for my GT and I have the new firmware, so am I not gonna be able to nrf it? And if not will it still feel okay or will it feel weird?
Would you say that the update would still be avail although my board has a CBXR battery?
Mines not working anymore, my friends a onewheel doctor and he said I need to get a new BMS and get a stock battery and that might fix my 4209

It hasn't been 100% confirmed, but we believe it will not break the board, but it will reduce your range to stock

I have a 4212 XR with a JWFFM chip and battery and am worried that it will have problems if I update it. Does anyone here know what happens if you do this with a board with my specs? I can still see the battery % in the widget but I really miss tracking my ride mileage and my lifetime miles :(
What happens if you delete the OW all, download again, put flight mode on, turn BT on and run the app? Does it tell you to update the FW?
There are also other comments with your question and someone has been successful with update.

Just updated my XR and tried to test it but its tricky...I usually go ~14...15mph....i pushed to 16 and nothing...I am afraid about dont feel/hear the new thing and nosedive lol...how obvious is the haptic feedback...do you clearly feel it or is subtle enough to miss it?
It's obvious. Switch to Sequoia and you'll get buzzing at 14 mph. I've only had my XR for about a month and was using Cruz as my default but started getting haptic buzz especially going uphill or downhill so I've had to move to Mission and it's been fine. Only get buzz when trying to get up my driveway which is really steep and at the limit of what my XR can do.

I did 2000 miles in one year LOL. I had two big crashes the first month. first an unexpected bump in the night literally watching the moon...I flew and broke my right writst....3 weeks later an unexpected crack the street. No broken bones but a lot of scraped skin. A LOT :) I was using Delirium. Its the most aggresive mode but not the safest...after that I switched to mission and my ride changed forever.
My xr has no buzz, but when it gets to 25% it plays the sound bite from tgeir safety vieeo "hAPTIC buzz is a feature that " blah blah.. its better than it buzzing
they should add a test buzz button to actually know what is it about without pushing the limit.

Had to update my XR last night. After the update gave me an error 16. Rebooted the board it went away. Took the board out for a ride push "my" limits didn't notice any buzz. Maybe it's my imagination it seems to deliver power better.

lol same here...tried to push limits to buzz it but buzz was not there. Maybe I ride in a safe zone but its hard to test because nobody wants to nosedive to see if is working
I agree, my board is riding smoother more quiet than before the update. Got up to 17 with no buzz. I didn't wanna go further as I'm still recovering from a 26mph nosedive a few weeks ago.

I have over 700 miles on my XR.. I think the update was forced on future motion and unnecessary.. some people just shouldn’t ride onewheels
