Just subscribed! Im vietnamese born & raised in California and will be going to Vietnam for the first time at the end of this year and have been watching lots of videos to prepare. Loveee your videos so much more than other foreigner videos because you brave the food spots that seem to be more for locals and you’re not scared to go to places where there are no english menus and nobody speaks english. Plus you’re open to pretty much trying everything without knowing what’s in it and it’s so fun to watch your reactions. Keep up the good work! I've been binge-watching your vietnam videos for the last few days, and I just wanna say I absolutely love how spontaneous you guys are. It's also super refreshing how neither of you are afraid to try new dishes unlike many other tourists.
the leaf you want to know is " lá cóc " of the cóc tree. I don't know its English name but the fruit of it taste like mango when it ripes and very sour when it green. This kind of leaf is very popular in the southern of VN, people combine it with many kind of herbs to enhence the flavour of the food, especially with spring roll. In some regions, they also use "la coc" to make " canh chua" ( a sour and sweet soup with fish and vegetables) , also yummy and known as a unique soup in the south and Mekong delta too.
