VIC AND BOB: LIVE @Slapstick Festival - Visual Comedy Award with Marcus Brigstocke

- The unstoppable Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer are the well-deserved recipients of this prestigious Aardman award at Slapstick Festival at Bristol Old Vic back in 2015. Their innovative and seminal work, from Vic Reeves’ Big Night Out, Shooting Stars to House of Fools, has placed them as the undisputed champions of visual comedy over the past three decades. Their unique brand of alternative visual comedy employs surrealism, bizarre tangents, hilarious silliness and slapstick asides. This was a roller-coaster event, hosted by Marcus Brigstocke with clips and chat plus the onstage presentation of the Aardman Slapstick Award for “outstanding contribution" to visual comedy.
Some clips have been removed due to copyright restrictions. Apologies.

If vic and bob started a podcast and just chatted shit with eachother that would be perfect please
Have you listened to athletico mince? It’s bob and Andy Dawson, who is intolerable, but bobs sketches are sensational
We don’t need another podcast
too much footy

Big Night Out was tremendous. They always play it down a bit and the clip they showed really doesn't do it justice at all. Vic Reeves' talent really shone on that - the ingenuity of the props and art, the singing, the slapstick, the character writing, the rapport with the audience, the whole format was just inspired. There will never be anything like it again
Flippin art it was
It's incredible how little time there is between the pair of them taking the stage and it just turning into nonsense. Love it.
I love that after all these years together, they still obviously enjoy each others company and still look to make the other one laugh.
Love it. 😊
To the film makers. I think the technique of placing the camera behind a chair, and the microphone under the table was genius.
Visual comedy
It was inspired. 9 years ago! time has flown by.
and that's what you took away from this?
I find Vic reeves one of the most relaxed warmest charasmatic... funny and interesting and talented... great at singing.... just the biggest bundle of ❤!!!
I dig stuff he is in!! I think his friends are very lucky to get to hang around with him! He would be the perfect company, i reckon!
Is that you Vic?
For me they have surpassed Morecambe & Wise for the best comedy double act. They have made me laugh more in my life time than anyone else. Love them so much.
I agree, they always knew just how far you could push the silliness for maximum effect. I love cartoonish violence, like in Bottom and Bottom Live I love the silliness of them smacking each other with hammers and frying pans.
Surpased Morcambe and Wise?😂
@@barefootwanderermz
Agreed
My favourite was on shooting stars when Christine bleakly was on and Vic showed her the tattoo of her he had done on his bottom ...pulled the waistband down on the back of his trousers and pants and there was a massive skidmark lol cracking up writing this memory ..funniest thing i have seen ...her face was shock ..disgust and wondering if it was real 🤣🤣🤣
Damn, haven't seen that one! 😂
That clip makes me cry with laughter
I can watch it over and over 😂.
The man with the stick😂😂😂,. Who can forget " it's around about this time of night I like to put a petri dish inside a squirrel " 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Absolute legends. I hope they don't skip all the old clips ...
Thanks for all the many many laughs Vic and Bob, genuine Sirs of British Comedy.
These two helped me grow up to be the complete loony I am today and I can't thank them enough, one hell of a childhood🤣✌️
Respect.
A little genuine eccentricity
goes a long way.
Celebrating genius and courage and brotherly love. And how much their works helped depressed people like me. Priceless ❤
Bob is one of my favourite comedians, Vic is also great but Bob doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Yes he does too
Bob (rightly!) gets a lot of love these days. They're both incredible.
I think one is better than the other one, but I won't tell who I think it is
Best comedy duo act ever IMHO.
The Club series from Bang Bang,
Stotts Vs Sinead
The Germans with the boobs and Dr Shakamoto .
Utter genius - why don't we see more of em on repeat on Sky !?!?!??
Search GamesMaster Uploader on here, they have loads on Vic and Bob full episodes and related stuff.
"Women feel comfortable in my presence, with my tales of sexual experimentation, both on the high seas and the railway property" - Kinky John Fowler, Club Compere, Barron's Nightclub, Hull.
God I love them and their wacky humour 😂
❤all day everyday, I'd never get bored.😊
Bob Mortimer is my spirit animal.
Deserved recognition. I'm not a person that laughs much, but the "lunch hour capers / car door blokes" sketches from Bang Bang tore me up.
Danny Baker's tribute is bang on! Legends.
I love Vic & bob would have loved to have seen ric and ade get this award too
Imgo these two were magnificent.and I can’t paying them enough homage
Thanks for posting this, it was a joy.
Ulrika's piece to camera at the end is priceless!
She was a good sport on shooting stars
I giggled a lot, now need to rewatch it all. Due to most of the clips not being shown. If this was fireworks it would be 'standard' at best
Being a teen when shooting stars wss on was a blessing from.....
The Dove 🕊️ From above
🙂😆
Not everyone gets it but if you do, well the funniest duo for a long time
Look up Matt Lucas talking to Richard Herring he said he watched their show as a teen and wrote in a letter to Channel 4 complaining :) then watched the next week, it finally twigged and he became a massive fan.
@@TheStevenWhiting cheers Steve will check it out! Coincidently one of my faves sketches is on you tube, its 'George dawes wants a caravan' shooting stars. Matt and Bob just can't keep a straight face, absolutely buckles me😂👍
Love these 2, could have watched them for hours ❤
It's so lovely to see these two together and it's not just the nostalgia of their shows.
It's their warm, relaxed, noncompetitive humour and comfort in each other's company. It feels such a privilege to watch them make make each other laugh after all these years.
They're entirely devoid of the usual dick-swinging that inevitably results from comedians in the same vicinity who just feel compelled to out-funny each other.
They're quite simply - gentle men who have never felt the need to please anyone else other than each other. I'm not sure people truly appreciate just how startlingly rare that is and how sad that we've never seen anything like that since.
I really cherish all they do together and apart. Long, LONG may it continue.
The Stooges short Vic mentions is They Stooge to Conga, widely regarded as the most violent Stooge short ever and one of my favorites too
Absolute stars - I was in my early 20s for Big Night Out and working in my first job. Never missed an episode, and I'm still scared of chives to this day.
this is awesome thanks!
I must watch The Club again, that was funny as F. 😂
26:10 Stotts voice story, hilarious
Mulligan and O'Hare, bloody brilliant they were.
Good to see Marcus having a well deserved a few hours off bashing his bishop.
I've googled the B&H story and I can confirm it's true.
I went to Barley Wood rehab (in Witton near Bristol) and that was owned / built by a man connected to Benson & Hedges as their initials could be seen cast into the architecture around the building. I think it's a wedding venue nowadays.
Looks like Bob had been busy with his own dentistry around the time of filming 😂
Aw man they mustn't have been able to fit all the clips in but it's still a good watch so nice 1.
The Stotts were always my favourite
That would be an ecumenical matter
Unadulterated absurdity. Precious and rare.

Comedy gold. And I only wanted some cat treats.
So good. As they talk about slapstick, I think of Bottom / Ade / Rick stuff, who seemed to be modern masters of the form (to my mind at least). Did vic and Bob do anything with those two? I can't think of anything as a life long fan of all of them.
During one of the 'Bottom' live shows, when Ade was trying to cast a spell, he included 'Iranu Uvahvu' in the incantation.
Rick broke character, and said "Yeah, may as well go the whole hog, and rip off their entire catalogue".
So, I think they were well aware of the similarities.
@@Paddy.C that's right! I'd forgotten about that :) Thanks Paddy.
Sit back, Marcus!
Benson of B&H was linked to Bristol and was known to be a 'course' man. But he may have been thinking of Will's which is well known for slavery/tobacco/Bristol connection. Glad thats all sorted out. Eranu.
Ulrika saying she's not going to try to be funny, then someone she doesn't know rings in the middle of her message and she ends up doing the funniest one anyway.
They wouldn't let it lie
What's genius about them is, they don't punch up or down....they punch rhubarb ❤
Boys there was quite a few props including the dove at Salmons warehouse in Thurmaston
Best thing since sliced bread.
Patrick Allen’s voice. Brilliant. Early Matt Berry.
I could watch this joking masters all day.
Does anybody know when this was recorded?
January 2015!
i want them as neighbours, and just hang out with a bbq
In ~Hull we used to call shitty shotty 'todd sticks'
I believe this was recorded just a few months before Bob was seriously ill and needed a triple heart bypass - poignant seeing him seeming so well here.
What a lovely pair of males. I'd like to see more males of this genre on my tv.
Beautiful. Thanks for putting this up✌️❤
yes, question from the back.......'can you smell onions?'
Right that was good=I'm now off for a nice relaxing poo!
who chose the position of the camera? ... lol
My Name loves Benson's and hedges
Squirrel into bucket of Hot Trout =
I've got a little oven and a couple of pans, so I can HEAT the MEAT in the the back of the van.
Old folk wait. Food be hot.
I will cure you
Old folk weep if the food be not hot!
19:41 Pretty sure that happened for Python.🤷
Though I'll concede it doesn't happen now and it was always rare.
Catterick best ever show
This must of been just before Bobs triple Heart Bypass 😢
He mentioned his wife and they got married just before his surgery. He might be using wife instead of partner because they also mention a tour later in the year and I believe Bob’s heart condition became apparent at the medical he had to have before that.
Sans pareil.
Both live in the garden of england
To get any kind of snaps, from BC , counts towards serious prestige , n rightly so
I never cared for Monty Python,
The Mighty Boosh left me cold,
Not really a fan of The Young Ones,
But Vic and Bob are comedy gold.
Marcus - how wooden are you? Like watching cardboard talking.
Uncle Peter
I never beleive a word vic says. I had to check on Jack tatti.
My phone keyboard won't let me type. It is now though.
There doesn't seem to be any Vic n bob now ,bobs to busy fishing?
They were great,interviewer was poor.
I don't think I've ever seen a good interview with Vic. He either goes off rambling about something unrelated to the question, or just says "Yeah, we did" and adds no further detail.
Very poor indeed
Something obscures my view of you ….
Gerard Depardieu
No my friend, I can't see you. This plate fungus obscures my view.
Really who?
The Russ Abbot and Kes Dennis of their day
Good old Kes Dennis comedy legend #Heisahorse
Somebody said on another video that they don't speak now, hope this is untrue
It's never been clear which one is Vic and which one is Bob - they skirt around it all the time
Can we still watch Vic's impression of Barry White, or is that illegal now? 😕
Throwing liver onto a fire.
I think the largest of the fruits was soft Alan.
I do like Vic and Bob. Ryk and Ade did it better.
I love them but I can never quite trust any fact that comes from the mouths of either of them
Always dead weight in duos. And with these two . It was always Vic in my opinion. Bob is hilarious
Yeah, Bob is the comedy genius. Vic is a bit of a twat tbh.
@@tactical1981 yeah man. I mean. He’s not the WORST dead weight in a comedy duo Ive ever seen. He aint like a Baddiel or anything
@DD-dz9ge they wouldn't exist without vic, he was already doing big night out for a while and bob joined the act later on. Bob is more personsble and naturally funny but vic is funny and he started all the arty surreal stuff that made them what they are. They're both brilliant in their own way but without vic bob would possibly still be a lawyer.
@@deathkebab yea I just never find myself laughing at Vics stuff ever. You can see his head working overtime to come out with something random
Bob is just off the charts with naturally random stuff. He is brilliant
@DD-dz9ge i find em both funny in different ways, vic is way more awkward but i kinda like it. I found him the funnier one when I first watched it as a kid. Anyway that's subjective but I think calling the guy who came up with the original format their whole act is built on 'dead weight' is a bit harsh.
Shame the audience were comatose
Bristol has dense carbon monoxide clouds. Which is soporific.
Much of this drifts over from nearby Benson & Hedges island.
two's company and brigstocke is an utter waste of space.
Vic and Bob are about as funny as dropping your bus fare onto a fresh dog shite.
I can’t believe I found this funny,, what a cringe
Handbag
bobs teeth?
