**UPDATE:** Gunn (funnily enough a few minutes after posting this video 0.o) posted how Lex Luthor is the main villain of Superman. I want to take this opportunity to say what I mentioned early in the video (& saw coming haha) at the timestamp of 3:12 - I do find it interesting how in the update he doesn't directly reference a 'dark superman' per se, or even so much as mention 'Ultraman', he just insists that yes indeed, Lex Luthor is the main villain. The thing is, that would still be the case even if Ultraman was in the movie...So, it does make me think of that example/talk I gave at 3:12. I'm not saying the leak is true, but as I say it does still make my 'eyebrows raise' as I explain in the video!

The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor. I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE
Think you’re on the money here. Gunn didn’t come out and say “no there isn’t a Superman clone in this movie.” Quite the opposite, he just reaffirmed Lex as the MAIN villain. Ultraman/bizzaro might even not be a villain, but rather a misunderstood creation that Superman empathizes with and feels the need to help.

If only he could confirm that his name will *not* be pronounced as Luther… sadly we can’t have everything, and he does cite “Smallville” as his favourite Lex Luthor. So the mispronunciation continues…
I think Ultraman could be a good villian down the line, maybe with the Crime Syndicate, BUT right now having him be the first offical DCU Movie "Big Bad" is questionable.
This is how I feel. I don't have a problem with the idea but it being used in the first movie. I don't see the point in introducing an evil version when we don't even know our new Superman yet.
Ultraman is NOT A CLONE, he's from Earth-3! And if HE'S appearing in the DCU, the rest of the Crime Syndicate has to along with him! Owlman, Superwoman, Atomica, Grid, Johnny Quick, Power Ring, Sea King!
He isn't but again, 'adaptations don't always copy and paste' so to speak so as I get into in the video - if this leak is true, it wouldn't be surprising if there's a blend of 'dark superman' inspirations.

I actually really like the idea bc A) it shows Lex ultimately is the villain. And B) it could be an interesting way to look at the way Clark views himself. With such insecurity and some disdain for being an “alien”. Similar to ‘My Adventures’. Literally having to face himself.

Even though Gunn already debunked this apparently, if Ultraman did turn out to be the villain, then I can agree with people saying that it's too early even if he didn't show up with the crime syndicate.
As for the Bizarro rumour, I had no problem with that.
I think it’s best to treat Gunn’s DCU like it will be an 8-10 year deal. So if they wait for the “right time” to use villains, they might just end up never getting to use them. I imagine we get 2 or 3 Justice League team up movies in this iteration of the DCU at most.
Gunn’s a creative guy and after his time with Marvel and now spending 8-10 years at DC, I have to imagine he might want to take off to work on his own original ideas.

The fact that James Gunn is indicating there are no plans for a Brightburn 2 may help support this leak. If Ultraman is the villain Gunn may not want too much of a similar thing.
While I have been a strong James Gunn supporter and I’m still more than willing to give the movie a chance, I have to say Ultraman (Evil Superman) doesn’t do a lot to excite me.

The movie could still be fantastic but I have to say the news is not doing much to excite me.
After missing out on Superman vs Black Adam, I was looking forward to Superman vs Apollo in this universe. I feel like fighting an evil Superman right off the bat may take away from that potential encounter.
I would really love to see Lex create Bizarro, it would be weird to see him called Ultraman I really want to see the Crime Syndicate on the big screen but I still think it would be awesome to see Bizarro adjacent character

Putting Ultraman as a clone by Lex Luthor kinda feels like a missed opportunity for Bizarro which I think is a perfect character for Gunn to write about in future projects.

I always thought Heather Leger's Joker was a mash up of the Ridderler and Joker.
My first thought upon hearing the Ultraman rumors was that they sounded suspiciously like the last few episodes of season three of Superman & Lois, and I wasn't happy. But I agree with Boba: bare-bones descriptions of a character don't say much about the final outcome. Let's see what ultimately (ultramately?) happens. After all, we could see Ultraman for a 2 minute scene, easily defeated by Supes.
What if Superman left earth to help Supergirl and came back to this dark Superman, then has to clear his name. 🤷🏽
Bizarro being a deteriorated clone of Superman is a story that was done in Superman The Animated Series, which would be a great inspiration for DCU Superman.

I really hope it isn’t true. We’ve seen the whole clone/bizarro type of storyline already in both Superman and Lois and smallville.
I NEED Superman to be extremely tropy and cheesy and pull a ton from the comics' tone and themes, other than that, an evil Superman clone as Luthor's "weapon" could be perfect as a commentary on the modern vision the general public have on the character and having the true Clark with all of his morals and personality to confront the evil version not only physically but ideologically too can turn out to be an amazing scene that can remove this stigma Superman has nowadays that makes people think he's more interesting if he's edgy or straight up evil
My personal theory is that the Kingdom Come aspect of the symbol is a hint. The story, like the symbol, is a combination of KC and traditional Superman canon. It plays out like this: Superman makes himself more publicly known because the “heroes” of the world aren’t very different from the villains. He’s strong enough to create a better way. The engineer plays a Magog-like role where she is technically a hero, but the lengths she’ll go to to get the job done border on villainy. Superman sees more than that in her and mentors her. She learns a better way and either uses that to form The Authority or teaches the existing one

I could definitely be tripping here but if I remember correctly Red Son was stated as one of the inspirations for Gunn. And in that comic Soviet Superman fights a clone engineered by Luthor. We know he’s pulling from different stories and eras in the comics so I think this would fit as inspiration without being a direct adaptation.
I wonder if "Ultraman" is going to be a mindless clone that Luthor can transfer-ish his own conscience to.

What if Superman is out there saving innocent bystanders. He's helping people trapped in burning buildings and such. While other 'heros' are not. They are focused on kicking villain ass and Superman is focused on helping people. Not saying he won't also kick ass. I bet he will.
About the evil superman thing boba they technically did that in superman and Lois when bizzaro was introduced In the show to add to that they did have an evil superman also in the show that came from another universe
I think DanielRPK heard "evil Superman" [clone] and thought "Ultraman" when really a Superman clone is known as BIZARRO. Meaning DanielRPK doesn't know much about DC

reminds me of red son superman bizarro and new 52 bizarro. Just looking at Guns superman symbol we can see it’s a mixture of the source material so i think it’ll be the same with most characters. This version of bizarro/ultraman will be a mix of a lot of evil versions of superman because they probably aren’t going to do it again.

Showing a kryptonian fight superman early on in his career can show people how powerful he truly is. Because even if he's not willing to be as savage as the villain. the display of power will show his potential. That's even more so if its a clone of superman himself. If the clone goes off with his powers in front of the world. Luther and others will see just how powerful superman can be without him even showing it himself. Then when he wins against the clone they might assume he is even more powerful then they originally thought.
Hmm. I’ll be honest and say my first thought was indeed “we’ve seen all this before” and that it’s perhaps a little Film School 101 for the villain to mirror the hero quite so exactly. But that said it’s way too early to arrive at any conclusions. I’ve not disliked anything Gunn’s done yet, though he also hasn’t blown me away either, which leads me to expect something competent and solid. This is Superman though, which surely means they’ll aim for a spectacular movie. I remain optimistic.

I’m not a comics guy but after googling and seeing just a lot of cartoon stuff , if I was rebooting a different DCU I would have gone Superman v The Elite or use the idea where Lobo is an early appearance before the big bad . I think it was Parasite?
Personally, I would LOVE to have Ultraman as the villain of the Superman movie for many reason. We have been so burnt out on evil Superman in media for too long now. We’ve had Henry Cavill’s nightmare Superman, injustice Superman, homelander, Omni man, and Superman from suicide squad kill the justice league. It’s a cool concept to have an evil Superman but we’ve had too many. So I’m stoked to finally get an optimistic, and Boy Scout Superman in David Corenswet, and I would love him to fight Ultraman, who is the embodiment of an evil Superman. David’s Superman is literally punching the one thing that we’ve been burnt out on for so many years (evil Superman concept) in the face and is taking us back to the roots of the character. Whether this was done intentionally by James Gunn or not, I’m not sure but I’d like to think it is and if so then he is a genius for it. I can see why most fans are hesitant towards the idea of Ultraman as the villain but I think when you look at it from the perspective that I just presented, then it is a very good idea. That’s just my thoughts and I hope this is true!
I honestly would have wanted Lex Luthor to be Just a presence with a certain reputation and influence. But only as a businessman. He carefully observes and studies Superman from distance and in perhaps a Post credit scene they could show that he's upto something

I believe Gunn is adapting "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" as a meta-commentary. Supes is going to defeat his darker "self," thus proving to the world and us, the audience, that darker heroes are a bad idea, and he is, in fact, relevant. It's a way to showcase why Superman is the beacon that he is. It's something that went over Snyder's head like a roof.
I think SPECIFICALLY for Superman, dark or evil versions of the character have done a lot of damage to his image in the past few years, and if done right with the intention of setting the record straight, this could be really valuable and interesting.

While I prefer no “evil Superman” style villains already, if it is Ultraman as a clone of Superman. My theory would be that Mr. Terrific is working on some machine or device that ties in with other universes. Something barebones and not ready at all. Then at the end of the film Ultraman gets tied in with this device somehow and sends him to Earth 3 where he off sets up the Crime Syndicate. We don’t need to see him set up the crime syndicate just being sent to another world where don’t know what happened. And then if the DCU wants to go Multiverse later they have that in their back pocket.
Boba! I do like Ultraman and I even have a soft spot for Nuclear Man... But I have to say, I find actual Superman turning evil for actual reasons more compelling than Superman fighting an evil Superman, like Superman 3, Bizarro, etc. Also i know it's no longer included because of real world conflict, but the script having a melee in the mid east and it being blamed on Supes, orchestrated by Lex, is straight up from BvS. If this is true it seems like a needless swap of Ultraman and Bizzarro. If you are going to use a Bizzarro like origin than just use him and save Ultraman for a possible Crime Syndicate storyline down the line. I am hoping this isn’t true.
I wanna ask whether u think they are over stuffing the movie. Like I think they should go light. I know it's not a typical origin story, but it's still an introduction. Having ultraman being a large force in this movie or the sequel is a good idea. Especially if this Superman is going to be confronting the common complaints
I don't believe in this Ultraman rumour. It sounds like something a corporate committee would do, not a big comic book nerd like Gunn. And Daniel RPK is not a scoop god, he was wrong many times before. Is Bizarro possible? More likely, but Ultraman as a leader of a Crime Syndicate from another dimension is way too cool to waste him in a first movie as some sort of evil Superman clone. I bet that Gunn is 200% aware that the evil Superman trope is what made so many DC fans angry with the DCEU in the first place.

A version of Bizarro would fit very well with the ‘Gods and Monsters’ theme if you position him in a universal style Frankestain monster were the creature is not evil the world just don’t accept him and he lashes out, I believe that could be the reason for having Otis and the rest of Lex crew here as a fun nod to Superman 4, and then the others hero’s could be the righteous mob hunting the monster and Superman showing empathy and kindness, helping the clone and teaching him about the world and being a hero that could also fit the previews name of legacy since is about Superman sharing his legacy, maybe the clone gets a inverted S by the end of the movie and dies trying to save people breaking down and looking more like bizarro, but I dunno I’m rambling I don’t see why people are so mad tho if they said his not a alternate dimension Superman but a clone it doesn’t really matters if Lex names it ultraman clearly is not the crime syndicates one but a amalgamation of many Superman clones in comics and Lex named that cuz he’s petty and wanted something that sounded above super, he could have called him superior man but of course Gunn wanting to nod toa comic character he chose ultraman since its both obscure and well known enough to have at least a few people catch the reference.

Hmmmmm, film used to be called Superman Legacy and typically legacies are people’s children and in this film supposedly lex clones Superman, probably with his own dna mixed in….now where have I heard something similar to this before? Oh and I’m sure the recently announced Titans movie that includes characters such as Superboy has nothing at all to do with this…
If this turns out to be true the only thing I can see for me at least is if Ultraman becomes Bizzarro at the end of the movie, since Lex's clones of Superman seem to break down except Superboy. Or if they want to use Ultraman use the real Ultraman from Earth 3 not a clone.
But I really prefer they do some other villain. We've had Zod in three movies now well 4 if count The Flash, Zod turned into Doomsday, in Superman 3 we Clark turn into an Evil Superman who was more like Ultraman, but with colors of Bizzaros costume. Then Nuclear Man.
It's time for some different, and new bad guys Mattlo(sp) Brainiac, Mongol, something, something that was not been done to death. In the comics Superman has not fought the same 4 villians for the 85 years, or even the animated movies, animated series, time for the live action movies to come up with something fresh not same old, same old or something similar, something new people!

Every time I hear about this evil Superman clone the first thing that comes to mind is Superman: Red Son. That Luthor created one.
Even before James debunked this rumor I didn't feel it was true. Mainly because it was too similar to what we have seen before in BvS. I believe James promised a story that we have not seen before in previous Superman stories told cinematically. So for me it didn't add up. Also, Ultraman and his crew is too similar to what we are getting in this universe from the Authority.
I think some people are pissed that we may not get a Hollywood adaptation of the Japanese Ultraman

my only issues with him being a clone in this adaptation is that we would most likely never see owl man in this continuity. I also dont really like the superman clone storyline. we have seen too many "evil supermans" in recent times with omni man homelander ect.
I think having too many evil Supermans is why this would work.
