I have several old 12V trolling motors. Was thinking of making a large skimmer that can just sit in the middle of the pool not attached to the pump system. A daunting project, but would be really neat to see everything get sucked in. Especially when we get the flying ant and termite swarms here in South Carolina.
great build. thank you for the step by step and admission of learning points. Also, good video skills too, keep building. *UPDATE* A potential modification might be to glue/ adhere a screen to the opening and let it overlap the gap between the basket and the can. This could potentially allow for a removable basket. Just thinking out loud.
I would recommend buying the Intex one of price is still reasonable. Back when pool supplies were extremely hard to find during peak of covid- this is an option to make your own so you can have a skimmer.
Hey, this helped me to think about something i needed for my pool. Thanks
Glad to hear it. Thanks for taking time to leave a comment
That twine sure gave your contraption that hickish look appeal... 😂😂
Great ingenuity! 👍
They do make a product designed to accomplish this, but I love the savings and DIY.
Great job

I am using a floating basket as a skimmer 🤷 I just need to add sponges now

Great idea and feedback, thank you
Why do this when intex literally makes a skimmer that hangs over the inside of the pool?

Because those cost $80 where I live
It sees like a bit of forethought would have made it much better.
Not even. Just buy the intex skimmer, it does the same exact thing.
