brainey001 it’s about recognition, a statement. Winning an award means that the ‘industry’ believes they are good enough, that the work they’ve done is valid and important. Winning an award is a big deal, don’t pretend it isn’t and YES women don’t get many of those.

We all know a lot less deserving actors have walked away with Oscars, sometimes on their first shot. It's hard to go against someone with six acting noms and no wins. Gaga will get hers someday.
Somebody should put up Glenn's scene of Alex Forrest from "Fatal Attraction" with the line where she says: "I'm certainly not going to be ignored !" Academy members, get your voting ballots ready !

Roma is Cuaron’s vanity project. Beautifully shot film but the story and performances were lacking. Because it’s foreign language and in black and white it’s artsy enough for the high brow voters in the Academy. Aside from cinematography and Foreign Language it shouldn’t win best picture.

I think Cuarón could have done more with the story (and less with the long takes) to tell more about a social issue still present in Mexican society. Most people here loved it because it evokes a nostalgic time, but I think it lacked strength in its story telling to be a great movie. Don’t get me wrong, it still was a good movie, but something was missing.
