- I've really enjoyed my time playing the Elbing. It's not the best ship in the game but it is so interesting to play because it is a totally new problem to solve. Most ships play like other ships already in the game, this one doesn't. And I really like it for that.

Elbing is a Cruiser without a Citadel
A Russian CA without a Citadel. Tiny guns, who cares they have insane penetration compared to their peers.
I'm not a wows player (something I'm probably glad about it considering how the game is going) but as far as I can see the elbing is based off one of the various (and sometimes crazy) ships proposed for the Z plan, they were basically recon cruisers (or spähkreuzer for the wheraboos out there) so yeah they put a light cruiser and called it a destroyer, not sure if it's balanced or not.
@@someoneiguess1883 So far I think it's decently balanced, though the pen is a little high for 150mms. IRL they would have been pretty awful, imagine fighting a cleveland in one without the super high pen and with equal reload.
I mean, it's literally a proposal for a light 'scout' cruiser.

@@DaManBearPig Reddit and CCs are wrong all the time. Flamu called French destroyers dead on arrival multiple times during ST and the moment he got his hands on them he did a complete 180 and pretended like he never said anything. Note that French DDs in ST were stronger than they were on release. WG didn't buff them a single time and nerfed them multiple times during testing
What are you saying PQ? Something German that's fun to play and is strong in WOWs?! You know how loving WG is towards Germans, please don't give them ideas to nerf it.
I played Elbing a lot on PTS, and I really like the concept: Rewarding smart and intelligent play.
The excellent AP, ballistics and poor handling of the boat really reward smart positioning and target selection. On the flip side, the 25mm plating and reliance on AP reward intelligent play against you, as you have pointed out. It is not just "spam HE and hope for fires" and a contest of raw HE DPM. It is about effective DPM; who can make their guns work better while mitigating incoming damage.
Please more of these designs, WG.
Met one in a Khavarovsk, those improved pen angles make it difficult to deal with ... Khaba has enough plate to arm AP ....
Met one in my Z-52, gave her full broadside, melting her like butter with my AP while she keeps overpenning my hull

i was expecting that the user would use HE instead of AP at that moment
@@rendevc4414 The HE is so garbage, it's almost better to spam AP and hope for pens. The T10 DDs are thick so a lot of times when they start to angle you'll be able to sneak some 4-6k salvos in. But yeah if you find yourself fighting other DDs at close range you did something wrong.
Wish Hindenburg could have such preformance with its AP at range not shattering and having improved angles.

Lutjens is amazing in this ship - you can activate the reload buff easily and often the healing perk as well.
Did you notice who 3 torpedoes hit the island @1:05? He aimed correctly and moved in a straight line (so it's not the new bug). Probably the new underwater terrain for subs..
Elbing is just..such a strange ship...
It plays and feels like a cruiser with a very very good concealment.A perfect ship for ambushes with main guns and not torps which are an "additional gimmick"
When i played this on PTS i had a baller of a time and in 1st battle i was able to get 180k dmg and survive.I was extremely surprised such a massive thing can perform so well as a cruiser and not a cap contesting dd
And there's the torpedo bug making an appearance within the first 2 minutes.
Fought a few of them with my DDs and it's a lot of fun, positional skill and ammo choice gets rewarded tremendously when fighting against Elbing and Schulz. I wish more ships had such clear strengths and weaknesses in their counterplay, cough cough. Edit: When I misplayed, the killed me real fast but I've also had situations where my Z-32 ripped them a new one, my best so far was outtrading an Elbing 8:1 in a 1v1 scenario. Good stuff, looking forward to playing them.
I love the elbing, my favourite ship right now. A completely new and refreshing playstyle and my 64% win rate over 100 games isn’t bad either ;)
Elbing is merely a German Agano which happened to get used for a bigger cashgrab... It's probably going to either get reclassed to a CL (like the Agano) and gain a Citadel, or its guns will get nerfed significantly...
It's fun now, but when the majority of players, that don't have a crap load of free XP to spend, will be able to get her, WG will nerf her into the ground. Happened with Khaba, with the Pan-Asian DDs, with Henry and the German BBs. It's the same crap every time.
Ships that didn't happen on:
French DDs, Japanese gunboat DDs, Soviet cruisers, British DDs, Pan Euro DDs, Venezia
Sure, some of those got nerfed but all of them are still extremely strong. Basically, your comment is standard anti WG stuff that doesn't look at facts. It's sad, really
You can't use a Commander "Fearless Brawler" because is not enough. Although, "Concealment Expert" is the best recommend this DD for doing a "Silent-Hunter" tactics but disadvantage for Elbing is going into Key Areas but just snipe and shot out of it.
This thing is like a micro battleship with that AP performance. Holy crap. I'm blown away. O.O
When it comes to dumpstering DDs you should do a video on the Druid, that thing is sick.
ZF6 is also really good at killing Schultz and Elbings. Another way of thinking it, is these are basically Munchen at T9 and T10 but with better conceal and pen angle.
"The ap might be a little too rediculous" haven't played them myself but NIEN! Anything that encourages AP use is a win in my book.

I did see an Elbing in ranked last week. The player was on the enemy team and had the unpleasant fortune to pop on our Druid... The poor soul got deleted in seconds.
The Tier 8 is fun as well, the Tier 7 is kinda whatever. Fires way slower with less guns even though they are the same caliber. You should give the GJM a shot, you'll probably enjoy it.
Druid is a nightmare to meet in an Elbing, that AP and rate of fire on the Druid just eat up you HP in seconds.
IMO when the 'new' factor dies down and there are less of these fighting each other, they will be deemed useless against regular dd. It happened recently to me in a game, a Schultz told us in chat to us in cruisers and battleships "come on guys, go get caps", as the other team had a real dd. We lost, ofc.

I sold mine because I couldn't make it work as a dd. I guess I'll buy it back and try again. You're now my lead cc and I try what you suggest. I did great with the ZF6 yesterday after your video. Super high damage game. You were right about that. I'm gonna miss the free Capt respecs. It's great to just change them on a whim game to game.
I've only got up tot the tier Maerker, and I really like this line, with the caveat that I can never do good damage to other DDs. The HE DPM is way too poor to kill DDs, while the AP always overpens. Does this problem stay with the Schultz and Elbing, or is it a persistent problem?
Just shoot AP. People are programmed to wiggle their DDs asses to dodge shots. Dodging an Elbing is nearly impossible if the Elbing player can aim, and all their maneuvering does is give the Elbing's shells a better chance to arm. That's how they eat a 6k salvo, panic, turn again and eat another one. At that point it doesn't even matter what your DPM is, they're running. Even against good players the panic effect is real. I've seen it against unicum enemy Smalands half a dozen times now.

Yeah, you can citadel mino. But you cant devstrike full hp mino. It's mean after 1 salvo mino just turn bow in, use heal and just destroy you from she's only 2 front turrets.

This ships is fun and good but it need a surviving gimmck, a heal or saturation mec anything and damn more flaks
i ran into 2 elbings in a battle in a smolensk , got citadeled to death
already in tier 9 german destroyer line so can get it quick
well nerfing pen of AP and bufing manuevribility will push it to all other DDs playstyle. I think its ok right now. It can citadel moskva/Stalin? Thats their problem they should protect their sides more
I like this german line a lot. But many players in the game don't get the point of these. If you don't rush cap right away you get plenty of shit talk by your teammates, but thats not a problem!

Oh heaven forbid that moskvas, stalins and petros can get murdered by a specialized cruiser killer. Especially when they have 12km radar. The Elbing shouldn't be touched.

My thoughts on elbing: it's pretty fun, but limited in ability. The ship is fun and honestly not badly designed but holy shit is it not what the game needs.
From the point of view of a mostly cruiser player, this is not what the game needed at all. 457mm (18 inch for the americans) keeps becoming more prevalent in high tier, cruiser plating is becoming more and more irrelevant as it already is, and we really didn't need another ship that kills cruisers.

I find the biggest downside to the Elbing is its lack of utility. It's very much a one trick pony that can get countered/punished pretty easy. They should've left hydro on it
Elbing is fun, sadly previous ships are kinda meh and Z31 is just garbage.
The AP is quite OK, but only useful against BBs
Typical WG strategy, put bad ships in the line so that people free xp to a great top tier. Then when many people rush to free xp the top tier, they nerf it.

Which mod exactly do I need to get my ribbons to look like that ( by ribbons I mean shell hits, destroyed, captured, etc)? As you all know the mod manager descriptions aren't really "good".
I like the ship as well, but I cant seem to win in it. 60% overall Account, my current winrate with elbing is 40%. A mix of bad teams in the first 25 games, me still learning the ship, and the inabillity to actually to gamewinning plays. As in this game: Yeah you farmed BBs, but good luck doing anything if 2 of your DDs just died without doing nothing and you are "supposed" to one on one fight DDs with good camo and backup or cap bases. 8DDs / battle does not help realy.

I'm not sure what to make of the Elbing... it's a cruiser that takes a DD slot with its gun boosted to ridiculous degrees. The guns shouldn't be that good honestly.
I really don’t know WG didn’t just split the German cruisers tech tree line if they’re making the Elbing more like a light cruiser
because while these resemble cruisers they were still designed originally as Destroyers

@@undertakernumberone1 agreed, but after this comment I actually went and played mainz for the first time since 1v1 brawls and took double rudder.
Got my first mainz kraken, dominated the match and got to brawl a BB and win and half of the 130k I got was actually AP damage despite using primarily HE spam.
I really have a love/hate relationship with that ship as my embarrassing wr in it shows

It is an OP cruiser, that shoots lasers and doesn't have any citadel.
Fun ship, but sorta rely on enemies’ ignorance to perform well. Playing Elbing when an enemy DD is actively hunting you is no fun
It will be nerfed and then it's just big and clumsy.

A DD that is able to perform within the balance range, even at the low end? Hah. Nerfs inc guaranteed. Even the data was very clear that Most DDs at this tier spread are underperforming. Even the Khaba was performing within the balance range when it was released (i.e. balanced before all of the nerfs), its just that most people (WG included) do not understand data analytics nor do they understand the basic fundamentals of comparative analysis.

How to make light cruisers playable and fun again? Simple, remove citadels. Until then have fun being clicked on

How is it that ships go invisible? I understand they put it under "viewing distance" but it is complete BS! Ships don't go invisible and even if they were, they would still leave trails in water visible from the air especially... Even with the smoke the ships should be partially visible if they are near the edges...
I think the developers that made this game are flat earthers because there is no horizon that should determine our "viewing distances"!!!
I won't spend one penny on this game until they correct this issue.. invisible ships.. Laugh My Asimov!

After seeing these DD in tech Tree I will unlock Midway because I know now BBs like Conqueror and Soyuz gets citadel by A fucking pee shot Ebling then what's the credibility to play a BB that's why I am okay in Grinding CVs I have shifted my interest sorry PQ but I don't like to play BBs any more.

if you are a dd and you run in to elbing you don't think it needs nerfs, if you are a crusier or bb runing in to elbing yeah than it needs turns lol
