I think different pencils are for different folks, I have very high end and very low, I like them all for totally different reasons. Most people really enjoy Prisma color, but I don't think they're that amazing really, but I do love my Caron dAche, Faber Castle, and Derwent, but each responds differently on different papers, I also enjoy my Crayola, my Brutfuner and Kalour, I think each person will find their own level of enjoyment 15:23 and its as personal as tea, or coffee, preferences, we aren't cookie cutter clones, we each have different requirements, levels of skill, ways of experimenting etc...
Kalour layer for me about 6/7 layers, Brutfuner about 5/6. I have the 180 set of both and they don't break as much or the shaft split as much as my Prisma color...

Brut and kalour they are the same pencil leads. As far as why the 2 different drawings came out different, is because you chose to do the picture on the left with more greens. In every pencil set, green pencils are always more scratchy.

      Hm, that’s an interesting theory.

They aren't the same at all, ever since people learned white labeling exists they satarted to claim everything is the same as every other thing without making a proper comparison.

@SG-pu3rx Oh hi, its you again! Brutfuner and Kalour are the same pencils, I spoke to the manufacturer over 18 months ago.
Also, people have known about white-labelling for years; I used to sell white-labelled products branded for my craft store 20 years ago. Just because you're just finding out about it doesn't mean everyone is.

I have both of these pencils and they are both hard work to blend and you cannot get as many layers down as you can with more premium pencils. I will say, totally avoid the Kalour 180 set, its a different quality to the other Kalour sets.
Can you please give the title of the books you used for this test? The illustrations are gorgeous and your colouring is beautiful.

Hello, I want to buy some and I don't know which of the two brands to choose, which one do you recommend? Kalour or brutfuner? Thank you 😊

Hi Cecilia, my experience with them is that the two brands are almost the same so I’d say whichever brand you choose would be fine. 🙂

I own Kalour and hate them. Hate is a strong word but I do. They color like crayolas and break super easy. You can't sharpen them very sharp s they brek off. I will be replacing them soon. TFS

Many of these cheaper brands are actually the same pencils as each other. Someone who has a large channel has done some research and they’re made in the same place and then sold to the different manufacturers to put their own labelling on, eg Brutfuner, Kalour, and many of the other sets found on Amazon for example. Similar to own brand in the supermarkets, they don’t tall have their own factories making their own products.

But sometimes they are not made as good for other companies.

I must have gotten super lucky because I have the 520 set and I have not had a single pencil break on me yet. And I sharpen them to a super-sharp, long point and they have performed flawlessly. I was actually worried about breakage because I am very heavy handed when I color but so far it's been all good with the Kalours. The Brutfuners on the other hand break just by looking at them. Seriously - I have had over a 30% breakage rate with them. I wish I had never bought them but so glad I bought their smallest set.
