- Cheap plasma cutter cutting aluminum. Aluminum plasma cutting might not be as basic as you might think .Depending on what sort of metal cutting you want to cut a plasma cutter might not be the best option for you plasma cutting aluminum depends on the thickness you need to cut? You would think that aluminum being a lot softer would be easier to cut than mild steel ?Check out my video to see what i found out.

When cutting thick aluminum you need to turn your air pressure up because it will melt back together as you’re cutting it.
Higher air pressure will blow the melted aluminum away from the cut as you’re cutting it.
Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for the tip!
Thx Pete. Just the information I was searching for
thanks my friend
Wow it's amazing how two different metals cut definitely like that. I really didn't think that aluminum would cut so rough like that thanks for the show. Thanks Pete😁. Tabe 🇺🇸
No worries mate
cheers pete
Thank you Pete . That machine that you recommended me works perfectly. I cut stainless steel 1/8” thickness and aluminum 1/4 “without any problem.
Thanks just what I needed was disappointed with my first aluminium cut 6mm, the end finish same as you got with the thicker piece. It seemed strange, so thanks for showing all those examples, it helps a lot
Thanks mate
Great video exactly what I was looking for.
ta
Good video Pete. I was wondering how one of these would go cutting up aluminium car wheel rims - I use it for backyard metal casting. You have answered my question. Thanks for posting. Cheers Rob in South Oz.
cheers mate thanks for watching
I was just working on cutting up an aluminum wheel with my Cut-50 plasma cutter. It cuts through fine on the thinner sections (say 10mm) but I'll have to use a reciprocating saw on the thicker sections.
Love the accent, thanks for the demonstration, I've been doing CO2 laser and CNC routing for ages, thinking about venturing into this...
Very cool any videos?
Good video. Thank you.
welcome
How do you clean the jagged residue from the cut the best? Whats the process?
Great videos Pete, love the way you do them , ps do you use eye protection and if so what shade on the mask ?
i only use shade 4 for plasma cutting
Very nice thx
Most welcome
higher resistance holds heat longer, stays molten longer, aluminium cools real quick due to the air blast cooling further from the plasma nozzle ,a laser is what will cut the aly nice since the beam temp is consistent, any hoo,it comes down to conductivity and thermal resistance.
Yea thanks for the tip
Hi Pete. What plasma cutting machine do you recommend for cut 1/4" aluminum, stainless steel 1/8", and carbon steel 1/4"? Thank You
Hi You know me i am cheap lol . Cut 50 with a pt-31 torch.
You are a kick to watch. Do you have any finger tips that are undamaged???
LOL nope
The Aluminum will cut cleaner if you brush through the oxide layer with a wire brush prior to cutting. The reason being aluminum melts at a lower temp than the aluminium oxide layer. You'll get much better results if you hit it with a stainless wire brush just prior to cutting it. And dude, get a pair of gloves for cryin out loud lol! Cheers.
Good to know!
Cutting aluminium , you will always get that edge if you cut with oxygen , same reason why stainless and aluminium is normally cut with Nitrogen (Reactive metals ) .
Aluminium transfers heat 4 times faster than carbon steel , thus more amps is needed (copper is 6 times more ) and why plasma and welders is notebly rated eg 12mm/" 1/2" steel and 6mm (1/4) aluminium "Tig welders"
Thanks, yes i didnt even think a 40 amp plasma cutter using just air would cut 1/2 inch aluminium but will hack through it but like you say its very ugly. Thanks cheers pete
This guy is funny as hell! don't know why even watching this but he amassed the hacek out of me LOL
LOL
The plasma is about 25,000 to 40,000 degrees f. Even in centigrade, that’s plenty hot. Aluminum melts at about 1,200 F while steel melts at about 2,800. So the difference isn’t that much. But since al is so conductive, the heat spreads unevenly.
Thanks mate great explanation
Are you resting the torch on the material?
No needs a stand off guide
when you cut illuminum cut it with a grinder a little turn use plasma cutter to cut look cleaner
Good tips thanks
What brand this machine models please I need wan to cutting 39feet aluminum trailer
Its just a cheap generic machine.
@@petestools ok 👌
I think you need a pair of gloves, at least to handle hot metal, like you videos, great stuff!
Good call!
Aluminum needs a shield gas mix for clean cuts. An argon hydrogen mix is typical. Not too fun for a home shop to have a bottle just for it, but if you do enough aluminum cutting it can save your sanity. You can use pure oxygen but ehh....
Cool Thanks
Did you ever recieve that Amico plasma cutter??
Not yet because i am in new zealand they said it could take until the 14-3-2020 to arrive WILL KEEP YOU POSTED
Cheers pete
I ordered one the same
Did yours arrive ?
Nope never ever got it..think it was a scam
Thanks Pete how does stainless compare ?? And do your viewers and yourself a favor and buy some gloves for yourself . Cheers from Australia
wife got me some for xmas COOL
Love it 'ow thats hot.' Im only hobby welder and still grab hot steel bare fingers and yep its still hot. 😬😂😂😎
lol cheers
aluminium is harder to cut because it melting temperature is lower than it ignition temperature.
yea I am learning that thanks
So basically it's better to cut aluminum with a skillsaw? Or table saw?
Aluminum sucks up the heat faster than steel, that's one reason it's harder to cut
yes sure does
